We Bought a Dead Land Rover Nobody Wanted!

I tell you guys this incident yesterday with the trailer starting to swirl around I almost had to get my diapers out remember guys in Germany there is no dirt okay so that car is maintained as if you would not even change the diapers of your baby oh my God is that thick oh [Music] so we are on our way to get another project car okay because he woke up and said I need a new car today and that's how it goes in our life and because we got another engine at home which we need to

find a home for uh we thought we're going to get something where that engine fits and there are many different choices in the Land Rover and jaguar world but the problem is only certain Vehicles hold their value and Vera didn't want to have a Jaguar no I didn't it's not breaking down the last yards or there we go 300,000 km it made it without breaking down of course we rebuilt the engine no we didn't we just put in new pistons and some bearings but not even main bearings and we are in a tunnel we are

here with our new LR4 and we're going to pull the oil filter here to see what's going on with this thing so the filter looks clear pretty much the F looks pretty much Clear it's pretty obvious that it wasn't serviced very well but there are no major chips in there so I brought a new filter if you check out a vehicle you know you should take a filter with you okay so we'll put this back in it is a very pretty Discovery oh my God and the rims look so good not beat up by the

CB yeah he's going to start it oh my God oh the battery is too empty we have two boosters on oh he sounds weet that's look like something with a cylinder look at the shaking oh my God never seen that before oh my God watch him drop drive off that was the heaviest I have ever pushed so they're going to pull him back a little bit stop oh my God my car has never looked so good we did good good oh it's almost in giraffe mode all paid for I think I lost about 2,000 calories

I ate four cookies I gained 2,000 calories oh my God boy oh boy immediate online banking is a bit stressful yes but it worked like within seconds yes you are a lot of couple thousands lighter look at that I never thought I'm going to buy a brown car but it actually looks pretty cool in mode oh it's coming down oh cool the beauty of the land over there look at that perfect so now I can relax for 4 to 5 hours and then I have to worry about how we are going to get him off

he says he's checking if the weight of the trailer is still yeah it's correct feels good it feels good so I saw that's going to be a really enjoyable drive home well it's not but the problem is that I got zero experience pulling a trailer like this and also loading a trailer like this as soon as we hit 70 km an hour the thing almost start to Tumble over it was really scary okay so somehow we got this thing not balanced right unfortunately if I ask you guys now what I did wrong okay it's going

to be 4 weeks until we know oh my God so I think the vehicle is too far back if I look at this tire and at this tire I do have about I want to say 80 kg on the hitch right now from from you know trying so I going to move the vehicle forward and hopefully that's going to cure it okay and you guys stop laughing this is the first time ever I'm using a trailer like this with a 2.7 ton vehicle on it okay nobody's giving you a hard time well I think we

going to just collected 100 comments well everybody can see it's way too far back the vehicle can still carry more load I think so the the parking Brake's not releas oh my God so we are so screwed so I hope we still have enough shoes in my power pack let me here so I think I'm going to push it forward a little bit a little bit push it all the way okay no that's not enough like this no more it says the weate needs to be in the front so again he's feeling something I don't

it's definitely more weight on it now it's better I don't know yes I'm shaking it's so freaking cold I'm sorry I can't hold the camera straight so look what he got that thing is awesome I want that so so it looks like our weight is now distributed in a much better way because the vehicle is now stable we hit already 70 and 80 and there was absolutely nothing I did some brake testing looks like this is how we could enter the autoban I also watch the Youtube video of what to do when this thing is

going to start to this thing is start to sway around okay they say when I see the trailer on my side over here when it's the furthest out I got to Peak the brake okay not too hard but I got to basically hit it until the trailer gets right behind the car then I got to go off the brake and I got to do that in the frequency of the trailer if it doesn't work you guys probably don't see an ending in this video yes if it tips over and us including that will be the

last one yeah it's with this speed what we drive in about 5 hours 15 no it's about 5 and 1 half to 6 hours we took with the trailer coming down here when we could still easily do 60 and 65 it took us already 4 and 1/2 hours so that's going half through Texas All In in the dark I'm so glad that the seller used car sales guy his name is Mohammed and his brother they were so nice they helped us loading this thing up that I mean never had such a pleasant experience with used

car dealers okay he got all his buddies over to push this 3ton vehicle up onto the trailer because the little tiny winch I had I don't know how much that was helping but definitely not much so the next 6 hours we will be the slowest rig on the road but normally we are never the slowest Rick on the road only like the second slowest okay we determine the speed everybody else is going that's it with a trailer or with so you know with a discovery or with a Range Rover you set the speed on the

road that's it with a Toyota no you don't people will pass you everything's all right wo see here they loosen oh my God Christian what that's not a lot yeah but that's now the third time we are adjusting them yeah don't push him too uh back too much I don't want him swaying around again oh it is a pretty boy I wonder if it's a black edition cuz it also has the black grill must be it's cold so I got to say the discovery 3 pulls that trailer like a charm it's really riding well since

we got that load adjusted and it is so smooth it's like you don't feel it the only reason I know we have a trailer behind us is I got to stay most of the time in fourth gear because here on the autoban it's going up and down and it just runs quieter when I keep it at 2,000 RPM versus when I let it dropped down to 1500 RPM it's not running as smoothly it has to fight more so I'm very very impressed and we're only allowed legally to drive 80 km per hour with the load

we are carrying here because the discovery 3 does not have trailer stability assist versus if Vera would have let me take the Range Rover it has stability assist I think that same trailer we could have pulled legally with 100 km hour okay so the Range Rover has here A plus it also has like a special backup camera with trailer assist for backing it up yes but the Range Rover still has bad air and no oxygen and it doesn't have it's not a preper car like my Discovery but I got to say we also benefited greatly

today from the air suspension the air suspension makes handling such a trailer just so much easier the car levels out perfectly by 5 mm you don't have to deal with any sag you don't have to adjust anything everything is full automatic so I got to say when you do trailer pulling or Caravan pulling the air suspension is the way to go so the air suspension police is definitely right you should be ticketed if you remove the air suspension out of a discovery 3 and convert it to Cold Spring that should be a crime in Germany

in my opinion abs absolutely and everywhere else also okay the air suspension police has spoken I'm using the cruise control now here on the autoban to keep the 80 km per hour that the big truck the big truck's not quite making it I'm so going to get a RI pumper what's it going to say take him to the train station I'm going to take the queen to the train station yeah where are you taking him to the train station I this ain't the train station yes it is oh was all the Talking we almost we

10:00 anyway that was a really stressful day and now I'm going to go inside and watch a relaxing episode of Yellowstone oh my God she's got her own agenda you know so the first thing we're going to do is take the battery out and put a new one in so that we can get the parking brake to work in order to unload the vehicle off the trailer and Robin took it out for me so I don't hurt my back okay Rob good job I got a Land Rover battery here and it says replace 66% but

charge 100% so I charged it overnight this one should do it we got to put this one in exactly like the way you took the other one out so go on there box there you go can you take the camera now yeah hang on you got to dive it down in the back yeah slide it as far as necessary and lower it down yeah perfect I got to tell you this did not hurt my back a bit look at how many Land Rovers we have here the queen a Freelander My Discovery three our new discovery

4 and our kind of new discovery for our Mercedes is parked over there oh are you done lecturing how many Land Rovers we have in here but that one doesn't belong to us a free Lander I do think we have a problem now I got a lecture on the Spy this car was for sale for quite a long time Mohammed said he had it out for 13,000 and people came in and started to complain big time and they didn't like it well it didn't help that he didn't clean it up all all the way but

I can tell you for the price he had it in the internet for a long time for €1 13,000 this would have been a good buy even with a failed engine and he couldn't sell it so then he dropped the price and we came in and we bought it so that tells me people are just too selective on what they want to buy this is a beautiful Discovery with a rear differential this is really rare and the price was absolutely except and the only thing what this car has wrong next to a failed engine is

that it's all dirty it even got good tires on it yes it's unbelievable the brakes I think are still good I believe the front suspension is already done we're going to find that out and it doesn't have any electrical problems on the first few but we do know it's got its first oil change at 37,000 kilm at Land Rover and that was basically the one and only time it visited a Land Rover shop yes we I did check the service history where I said it and it was not it is not dealer maintained which is

for most people who buy something like this in Germany so for Germans a problem and the last thing you want is a dealer maintained vehicle in my opinion because the dealer maintenance is so expensive that these cars do not see the dealer regularly then they get skipped out oil changes for up to 30,000 km and that's why they fail okay so if you want to look for a good one you have to get a feel of the history of the car but if you look in the service history and you see an interval of 36,000

km that engine is not going to survive so you may consider right away doing the bearings or something and you better know that you can do them ah the Symphony of technology is coming alive don't want to disconnect it again there like Christian said is it is a beautiful Discovery for I say that about every Discovery 4 but it is a beautiful Discovery 4 and it was an incredible priz oh my God now that is like I imagine getting into an F250 or 350 with a duel I always wanted one of those so here so

I have to go up here there's nothing in here so an F250 is nothing for you so before everybody is asking what diagnostic tool I use okay it's a id2 tool from the company Gap Diagnostic and we are not sponsored and we're not doing any promotions and yes we like this tool but there are other good ones out there too and this is not a commercial I'm just showing it so I don't have to write 50 emails afterwards it costs about 600 these guys will not give it to you for free but it's worth every

penny the vehicle came with two keys now what I do like that stuff I've never seen it before and I want it for every one of my vehicles that's going to be a long video now what what you're supposed to do when you get your keys from the dealer is check that the emergency key is inside and then you drop it in the crass if you lose both keys on a discovery you got a problem okay because if you have one you can clone it but if you lose both you have to reach deep down

into your pocket for the last penny to get that replaced okay now before I go ahead and delete now all faults I want to check out the engine faults because once I have them deleted I can't recreate them cuz I can't run the engine it's broken all other faults are not so important I going to look at the transfer case and at the gearbox but most of those faults are basically because it's put into manual neutral and the handbrake module is manually unlatched and it has low battery faults and lost communication faults all those are

not important but on the engine I see an oil sensor fa which leads me to believe it got a problem with the oil level sensor and it has glow plug failure that's pretty strange that sounds like eventually a mechanical damage but it does not have any timing failures or injector failures on the engine which is strange so most likely we do have a bad connecting rod or something like that but we're going to check it out now then I have here the engine oil level sensor Vera and I did one of those it's not very

difficult if you got a lift if you do it over a pit you need to be 10 years younger than me and it helps if your little hell but wears a dress yes it did back then so check out that video so all FS cleared perfectly but the engine fault it doesn't detect the oil level sensor okay but most likely it's body off anyhow it latched I hear it yeah it latched and it unlatches perfect so we can use the electric parking brake now to roll it off the trailer because in front of our property

where we got unload it's extremely steep I'm being down like best do out of rips whatever he has I think rip has a Dutch Ram right wow it's a cold day yeah these are Continental all season tires but they do have the snowflake on though they are legal in Germany not as good as my brand new fredenstein window tires and they are so beautiful I tell you guys this incident yesterday was the trailer starting to swirl around I almost had to get my diapers out yeah that was scary but um after we adjusted the load

distribution the car ran perfect and we drove half through Texas I mean over here in Germany okay so that was really awesome what a nice road trip it was an awesome trip this baby did really good it has black leathering and a black grill it is a black edition but it's only an SE it's not an HSE which means it got a lot of selected options yes and it does not have a sunroof yeah I always promoted in our videos that you should get a maximum equipped hsse because it has the best resale value and

that's true but you also have to look for your use case I did a mistake by buying me stuff which I don't really need for example seven seats and then you got a deal with the seven seats they occupy your trunk you can't put anything underneath and that sucks I also always try to get the sunroof the sunroof if you don't use it if you're not the sunroof type of guy it's going to be closed all the time and then it becomes a maintenance issue so my advice is overall if you intend to keep the

vehicle for a long time okay rather buy it for your use case instead of trying to get a perfect resale value like I did on our black Mall crawler yes Prince Mall okay everybody knows now how to do that see if the mirrors unfold perfect good and it has black rims and they are not damaged in any way it must have been driven by a man I'm sorry you women out there and here you can see the car was sitting on mohammed's lot for a long time if it builds up green M like here question

good ready yes so for a change it's Kentucky today okay so it's quite empty now we drove 750 km on one tank of diesel with a huge trailer and another SUV so 82 l so 6 L are left so we got to air the car back down because we had it at 2.9 bar with that heavy trailer and that's good enough 2.6 okay first thing we going to check is the filter okay there it's confused inside and outside what the no small chip well small chips are hard to see when it's still oily we're going

to have to wash this a little bit so now unfortunately we can see them okay you can see I dried it off now with brake cleaner and there are Sparkles all over not just a few it's all over and they're really fine right here so what we got here is a connecting rod bearing failure this is not a main bearing failure because the engine would run way rougher this is connecting rod I'm pretty sure you can see there light Sparkles all over mhm but this engine will be easy to be fixed okay it needs a

new crankshaft which is already sitting here yes but we still have the hole in the Piston we don't know we going we don't know the first thing we're going to do do is see how much oil comes out it may have died because of diesel dilution yeah it probably did yes because remember darit car we take out about 7 L of oil yeah that will be the same here yeah so this is an SE which is fairly well equipped for an SE because I can see here already the heated steering wheel it does have the

leather seats which is also an option on the SE and they are electrical now mine is memory is yours memory no because it's not a queen that's why okay I do not have adaptive cruise control I do not have the high-end stereo system no sunroof and it's a five-seater it got the black interior with the piano paint herey a black edition it's a Black Edition that's true yeah it's all dirty here the guy did not clean it whatsoever that's that's maybe a good vehicle to do a video like the detailed geek and I show you

I have to lift the seat up first yeah and it is dirty I want to find what were they drinking Cowboy water okay in America they would find now all sorts of interesting stuff in Germany you only find dirt see yes that works what about the window lift oh look we bought a Jeep how about that well I printed out the service history of this vehicle and it only had three services from Land Rover locked over its entire lifespan which is the same print out I did with these three okay T certificate is that still

valid that would be nice 72020 so that one is no longer good and this this is a service schedule 79,000 yeah that's useless you're right so this car was not serviced really well I'm pretty sure it has the first timing belt it has the first gearbox transmission oil in it all differentials will have to still the first oil in it after 180 so that might be all silverish yes when we take this apart and we got a Jeep pouch we actually like the color I I am sick and tired of black and white I'm also

kind of tired of black vehicles I got to say yes yeah and see this battery what came with it I tickled it now for hours and it does not get over the tickling mode so this battery is dead that's the first € 150 it got fluid inside but we can see there is a black residue here so there is oil in the coolant water not a lot it's first of all missing coolant fluid and if you film in there it's definitely black in there if that would have gotten fixed on time and the oil would

have changed more often these engines really last and it didn't even die because of a broken crankshaft okay it's not always land Rover's fault Land Rover is not always to blame if these engines fail yeah definitely so the diesel heater does not have the diverter valve which means it does not have the cabinet heating option which I will install on this one because that's one option I going to miss compared to our black Print small crawl over there I can see that the hoses here are pretty original oh they are original yeah from all the

clamps and all the conditions there's one broken here so somebody messed around on this one there's one broken here let's see if the timing belt was ever off we see that when we look here this clip looks completely unharmed that's a sign that the timing belt was not done okay also see this clip here if they if they are in this condition they never got pulled out which means this was never open okay absolutely they are ashes from a cigarette that's disgusting there's another fur tree tie wrap here and it also looks unused okay so

I'm pretty sure this is the original timing belt which means it's overdue I would say we're going to have to lift it up now yes so that color is called Kaur Stone you know I'm sure somebody knows the original of that name and writes it in the comment that would be great okay before we take the body off we're going to check the intank fuel pump to make sure it's working because once we put the body back on and it don't start and then we realize we have some sort of a problem with the fuel

delivery it's hard to get to the fuel tank and so on so I took the relay out from the electrical fuel pump and I set up a piece of Hose here to the Shader valve and I routed this in here now I can jump here the relay and we see if it delivers fuel without water and no bubbles and it's extremely cold today which means the fluid is very much solidified and it still delivers nicely yeah because it locked the F with water in diesel yes so we don't have to be concerned about that yeah

this car will start up there's a steering fluid is also pretty low and that is definitely a sign of bad maintenance so don't always blame land r is if your cars break okay another good indication if a car was maintained at least a little bit is if the air filter was ever changed so we're going to check this out if that wasn't even changed that's like you wouldn't even change the diapers on your baby it must have been a farmer's car so all I got to do is lift it out now here remember guys in

Germany there is no dirt okay if a filter looks like that it's been in there for 40 your 50,000 km so that car is maintained as if you would not even change the diapers of your baby so no wonder it broke you know we are thankful there are these kind of people out there yeah otherwise it would not be affordable to have that car that's definitely not land Rover's fault the car wasn't taken to Land Rover it wasn't taken to anywhere else to get it maintained and it made it 180,000 I mean that's even on

the map for a Toyota okay without doing an oil change I don't know why we always have to do that in the depths of the window but we're going to Spain in two weeks I don't want to put the parking brake in in case we want to you know yeah so let me get a thingy exactly we need to change the belt of our lift that's the problem yeah it got Myer suspension arms which means they got replaced at one point you can also see that the bolts are new yes that's not bad okay not

the best suspension arm but also not the worst one it does okay see here that leak it has up there oil this is why it has that oil sensor problem okay I hope you can see it because yeah everybody can see that leak so this leak is actually caused by the oil going through the connector into the wiring harness and then it gets pulled up through the wiring harness up into the ECU and there is a service bulletin from Land Rover on how to fix that and that was obviously not done now the corrosion level

down here you can always see best actually on the fuel tank cover and I want to say this is for our area normal corrosion level actually our Prince mul crawl was here worse and also here you can see there is very little corrosion but it got some scraping so it was actually used Offroad see this corrosion level for our area for 8-year-old car this is normal yeah he's got here some scraping too though he was definitely definitely used a little bit Offroad now there no leaks here on the transfer case which is really nice these

are the original suspension arms because it still says Land Rover on it but they typically don't fail they fail with like 250,000 what is really rare on this car it's the locking rear diff okay and you can see that because there is a cable right here but the regular diff doesn't have and it's leaking yeah this is from changing the oil and okay so maybe it had an oil changing the oil on that car it does however surprise me that he had new lower arms you know that's really a thing any idiot will realize that

the car doesn't drive right okay and also goes into limp mode on this suspension oh look at that how good the trailer hitch is installed here look at this bolt I don't see it that's why there's no Bol here is the other side of the Bol just that side's missing so look at this side the bolt is here going through the other side ripped off it got no Smashes in the rear bumper which is nice it got a few scratches here in the plastic but that's below the line of sight I mean we like if

a car has been used the de fluid vehicle so eu6 have that spare wheel cover because the spare wheel is on the other way around so that the de fluid tank can sit inside the spare wheel yeah yes oh it's freaking cold yeah so Christian feel those bolts ripping off it's always a bad start when the first bolt rips off it's not good but you promised you you act like RI D yeah well better the first bolt than the last bolt this almost looks like somebody put some copper grease on these almost oh you spoke

too soon [Music] that was close well it's dry it's basically yeah so that oil is coming from all the way up there from the oil sentor definitely not rinsing down from above the engine here we have a leak so the transmission does have a little oily maybe it has a porosity like our second Mall crawler no problem because we have to take it off anyway so when we have the body off we will address of course that level of corrosion oil cooler or diesel cooler looks also pretty bad hey you could have just dropped it

over there ooh what is that we take that off right away we don't need that try to get as many as possible yeah is it coming yeah it's coming good okay you know a cover like this is like €200 so this is stuff you don't want to be missing because it's expensive so here's our oil pan and our 8hp and it's original I bet it's the original fluid in there unfortunately the date stamp is on the inside so we can see that there's a power steering hose leaking I want to order that right away or

I will be missing that later on when we put it back together up there you can see the belt looks pretty old oh there's a sign that the rear brake pads have been done I wonder if they also did the drum brakes we're going to take this apart and check it out too and I got to take the oil filter loose so it drains it because we want to check out how much oil is in this baby maybe it's completely looted and it has 2 L of diesel in it or maybe there is not enough

oil in it who knows because the oil level sensor was broken enough the drain block was loose so you there's no oil in it I think there is no oil in it anymore so we ran an empty engine that's not good that's not good and the dude didn't know that and the dude didn't know that yeah oh oh my God is that thick oh it's empty that really sucks he should have told us that okay what we see it's empty maybe it was running low on oil and that's why it died okay it's possible the

oil level sensor is broken and you have a lot of dumb asses out there okay and that must have no it was open before if it would have been open before there would have been oil staying here exactly where it is now and there was no oil staying there oh that oil is almost like honey so no oil in it and the drain plug was loose okay but see how this is now black here and that wasn't the case before so I'm pretty sure they did not drain the oil and I had to do all

kinds of work on our other cars before I was allowed to work on this one okay yes because we plan on going to Spain the bottom line is we ran a car without oil and the Deep ER ran it without oil and who knows how many people looked at it before but on the other hand we got a nice car with an easy to fix engine for a really good price yes if there wouldn't be such dumb asses out there we would not be able to afford such a car right well one yes but not

four 7 milliliters yeah while we're here we drain the coolant one more here okay good enough oh my God looks nasty no this looks beautiful you sure yes you're not supposed to drink it and I have my first bag yes okay let's see how bad that is ooh looks like new it's like brand new so maybe the car was maintained so that oil was changed at one point yeah so now it's a transfer case see if we got a surprise there yeah that looks a big that's old yeah that's quite old locking Weir if oh
