[Applause] [Music] [Music] hi I'm Jason Walsh I'm coming to you from my studio rise movement in Los Angeles California and talk to you about Jake Gyan Hall in the training that we did for Roadhouse when I received the news that Jay got the role for Roadhouse I was eager to sit down with him and get his vision and expectations what we're doing is real yeah look at your stomach never been done before it's real don't mess around and don't do this at home I spoke with the stunt team to understand their needs I spoke with
the director and producer to understand their expectations not only did Jake need Aesthetics but needed to perform stunts across from Conor McGregor a professional athlete in the UFC who has also never performed stunts on screen hey fellas looks like you have the smacking KN so Jake needed athleticism resiliency and overall strength this would also feed the mind and mentality he would need to get up after a fall a potential Punch or a kick I got a tip for you don't let no one get this close on after taking all of this into consideration I then
had to sit down and build a program that would ultimately build the foundation of the Dalton character generally we spend a few minutes each session moving trying to get the Core Body to mature up before moving into some sort of Mobility which you see here with the stick which is a great tool to help increase range of [Music] motion the Proteus is an amazing piece of equipment used mostly by performance centers to help train athletes in every plane of motion and also to help increase power production we use it primarily for priming the nervous system
reception learning movement patterns and a lot for warming up joints and metabolic training I are a staple here at rise Movement we use them all the time to help increase strength and stamina at different joint angles want stay with it come [Music] on most of the sets that we do are time sets we try to keep his work capacity up keep him moving keep him sweating keep burning fat we still want the heavy stimulus so we do a lot of heavy sled [Music] work [Music] getting comfortable with being uncomfortable stress adapt recover on repeat for
a well over a year that's discipline that's patience that's commitment I'm sitting I'm sitting in here and I feel a lot of gratitude but I know that's I know that's a crazy thing to say Jake went into this movie full of obligation honor duty to follow in Patrick's footsteps it was incredible to watch incredible to see him morph into his character we always keep the heavy primitive work oneway shape or form whether it's squats or deadlifts the variations thereof we want to keep the muscle coordination at a [Music] high one [Music] more grip work is
essential as it seems to be one of the limiting factors in the gym we pepper in various exercises to keep grip tight here we see some examples more relatable to MMA training keeping the body in check with offset loading and movements more imperative to [Music] sport [Music] it's important to keep the stimuli broad with variations of reps sets loads and different [Music] tempos the diet part of this is really critical critical for maintaining and looking a certain way it's not something that's sustainable but it can be done with the right people in place was a
big team that helped get us through this the Perry workout nutrition from Biotest The Surge uh really kept us going gave us the fuel that we needed for these workouts and the post-workout nutrition from Rise 311 protein that started in the kitchen and ended up being a great product so we got it out there you're going to have a great trainer a great program great team and none of this matters if you don't have the right person to do it all Jake did the work he earned it he deserves it I respect that [Music] cross
lateral loading is very important to all sports especially to MMA fight training these come in various forms but this is one of my [Music] favorites we keep things in balance with push pull ribs [Music] followed by my favorite some primitive climbing Sprints to finish him [Music] off this is Jake and I right before the UFC weighin in Las Vegas um taking a little bit of sugar get a lot of reps in push-ups sit-ups and voila the muscles swell up and look full I worked with Jake for years prior I knew he had what it was
going to take to make this plan work the amount of dedication discipline consistency and hard work the mental fortitude the level of patience it was going to take and unless you've trained like this you just don't understand to take the long road to take the Hard Road to take the high road to do this clean no shortcuts but what you earn what you gain along the way by taking these roads is unlike anything else it's yours you built it you earn [Music] it 16 17 18 19 20 we want the movie to be good you
know hey guys I hope this was insightful and gave you a little peek behind the curtain of how we trained Jake for Roadhouse this is a very long process took well over a year from start to wrap thank you so much for joining us and hope you guys enjoy the movie
