this happens every single year without fail every time the Academy Awards the Golden Globes all these award shows come around they nominate a bunch of films I've never heard of one of which gets celebrated up and down like it's the greatest things since sliced bread that's an expression people still say and so here we are again another year with another slate of films I had never heard of before and I would imagine the people at the Academy the actors the writers the directors the folks that nominate these movies know what they're talking about the the
people that go in my comments and say watch the film and then I feel a fool I feel like the bad guy when I completely disagree with the majority as I watched a movie that was so bad so dull so cringe inducing awful I kind of questioned the sanity of everyone around me and that movie of course was Amelia Perez which I covered and talked about today I'm talking about I'm still here a brilliant powerful absolute piece of Cinema let's begin I know I I I kind of teased with the intro I kind of wiggled
the dick a little bit too long there but a certified critic on Roden tomato subscribe but I did genuinely watch and review Amelia Perez and hate it with every fabric of my being but as I sifted through the comments of the review I saw an outpouring wave of excitement from people saying sir please watch I'm still here little chers were running up to me on the streets Tears in their eyes saying sir please sir would you review I'm still here naturally I shove the child into a puddle of water and say be gone with you
peasant but I listened I listened long story shirt I put in the time I watched the two plus Hour film forign R-rated some might argue I'm describing myself okay Adam so what does this artsy movie bring to the table well I'm glad you asked and you don't need to talk to me like such an obnoxious prick here's what we have here we have a movie set in the 1970s in Brazil following a wonderful family of seven the husband the wife and the five children the movie is based on a true story I knew nothing about
it going in by the time I was done I wanted to learn more this is following the p a family I love them I want to hang out with them and since I said their last name I should point out that uh yeah I'm not good with pronunciations and since this movie's in subtitles I'm reading I'm not really listening to how they're saying the names not that I could comprehend it anyway because they have a beautiful language and I'm an ignorant American stupid person so with that out of the way just cut me some slack
okay I'm promoting the movie I celebrate it I thought it was fantastic it's everything Amelia pre was not and I only bring that movie up because it's up for 13 nominations which is embarrassing and I'm still upset about it cuz that movie is the equivalent of cats Fernanda Torres plays Unice she is the central protagonist of this film but we're going to get to know this family very intimately and they're all great okay they all have some Nuance they're not perfect people but my god did it remind me of my own family in a lot
of ways there is genuine care there there's this family camaraderie there's a dynamic amongst them that's just it's powerful it's beautiful stuff before I get too far into it it's going to be a spoiler-free review I went in knowing nothing I didn't even see a trailer for this film it was all word of mouth and I thank everyone that including uh fans of the Channel that I met in person at Megacon M Michael thank you for recommending this as well as again a whole wave of people Taurus's character is the emotional Band-Aid for this family
she is the one that's going to hold everything together and things are going to fall apart we're talking about the 1970s under a dictatorship where the husband may or may not be working for the Communist Party director Walter CIS does a brilliant job capturing all these different moments in the film by utilizing different styles of footage sometimes it's being viewed through the lens of the family camera at other times we have kind of a shakeer more intense look and feel and then we have those more framed up shots where we can really see and unpack
everything that's going on inside these characters minds and there are so many key moments in this film where the writing really shines through and and it's not necessarily because what the character does say more often than not it's what they don't say they react to things like real people do Through The Eyes through the little ticks and the nuances in the face I went to this movie late I went to this movie by myself there was another gentleman across from me he was also Riding Solo uh a few people in the back seats and every
time a part of the film really struck a chord with me I would look over at that guy to see if he was also reacting the same way trying to hold back a tear or two there were four or five parts of this film where the emotions were rising up as a father myself of Two and a happily married man for many years I could relate to a lot of stuff in this film I'd like to think that pretty much everyone can relate to the type of story this is going to tell again I'm going
spoiler free you'll notice on my reviews when I really love something I hold back a lot I want you to watch it for yourself and this is one of those movies this is truly a cinematic experience you should have is it going to be the most amazing like Kick-Ass film to watch on the big screen no of course not but it does deserve our attention and I do think it deserves your time at the movie theaters to see and as previously stated if I see the engagement as high on this video I will absolutely do
a spoiler one so make sure to share it around like this video If you enjoyed this smaller talk about the film I really don't have anything negative to say about it it's it's just it moves really well yeah it's a little long but it's intentionally long and it makes sense with the story that's being told this is the story of a family mainly a wife and mother trying to navigate the unknown trying to hold everything together and doing whatever it takes to keep this family whole beautifully shot wonderfully scored fantastic acting across the board specifically
for Taurus okay that's all I have for you thanks for watching the video please make sure to subscribe and like and hit the notification Bell do whatever else share it I suppose if you if you thought it was that good and hopefully I see you next time for a spoiler video take care thanks again for watching the video if you wouldn't mind I would appreciate it if you checked out patreon.com adamd doov that's where fans of my channel go to help support it there are different TI with different offerings exclusives every month we got multiple
