what I found is that winning doesn't happen on show day it happens know early mornings painful workouts long cardio sessions and hungry nights happens in those moments of fear we all have when faced with a difficult goal and then more so in what you make of that fear it happens in every second of every day before you win if you can take every opportunity you have to bring yourself closer to your goal win every one of those opportunities all while becoming more resilient in the process how can you lose that is an exciting opportunity there's
24 hours in the day where you're alone in this brain and your brain is talking to you in all kind of ways and it wants to control you and pull you in these different Pockets you got to tell your brain where you want to go and how you want to get there if you can't control your own brain it's over I came with this thing called perform without purpose and so many people they need to have a 5k a 10K I need to have a a a course in front of me I need to have
something in front of me for me get mying ass up and do some [ __ ] and that used to be me and nowadays you know for past 20 some years I don't need purpose we're all looking for this golden purpose is it this is it that is it making money is is it my family [ __ ] the purpose is you what do you think most people get wrong about motivation they think it's a permanent fix they think it's something that is a constant they think that maybe once I get it I'm going to
hold on to it and that's the thing about that I always talk about it's nothing is permanent nothing is permanent and a lot of times you have to learn to perform without motivation you have to learn to perform a lot of different things you have to learn perform without purpose people I had to go do it it's easy to give up it's easiest thing in the world to do I man I'm I'm done I ain't going oh yeah I ain't going to keep going I don't feel like going to work done it's easy it's very
easy but what's hard is going yo yesterday I got nothing from working as hard as I could nothing happened from that I'm going to do the same thing again to day but I'm going to try to go harder that's the hardest thing in the world to get up every day and give 100% and be in the same position that you were each day but mentally know that you're trying trying and trying that's that's a real that's a real grind you got to want it you said before about how you build up self-esteem and confidence and
stuff and there's this quote from one of my friends Alex hosi that says you don't become Confident by shouting affirmations in the mirror but by having a stack of undeniable proof that you are who you say you are outwork your self-doubt I love that phrase uncommon amongst uncommon men there's moments where you don't want toing do this oh which is why it's so interesting because you do it right you you do it without any reservation you just go through it right but you always talk about I don't want to to do this but you always
do it that's it one of the things I recommend to young people is especially true for people in their 20s is that you should push yourself beyond your limits of Tolerance in your 20s to find out where it is how much can you work how disciplined can you become like can you work 12 hours a day can you work 8 hours a day can you work 3 hours a day like flat out where's your limit how much work can you do and how much socialization you should find out push yourself past and then back off
to to that point where it's optimally sustainable it's good to think about that as a goal it's like you're trying to discover what your limitations are when you're when you're in your 20s so that you can hit that edge so that you can sustain yourself across the decades and so yeah cuz you don't you don't want to don't want to have too much fun right too much fun takes you out you don't want to be the oldest guy at the Disco you know it's not it's not fun being The 40-Year-Old at the singles bar precisely
so you want to make sure that what you're doing is age appropriate and you want to push yourself in every direction that you can but you should be doing that with an aim in mind it's like you're trying to make yourself into a better and more competent person and so some discipline along with the funding is a good idea it's either you what was really your work ethic like and for how long did you stay discipline um well I mean I mean every day I mean since you know for 20 years it was an everyday
process and trying to figure out shrimps and weaknesses for example jumping ability man my vertical was a 40 wasn't a 46 or 40 45 um my hands are big but they're not massive right so you got to figure out ways to strengthen them so your hands are strong enough to be able to Palm a ball and do the things that you need to do uh quickness I was quick but not insanely quick I was fast but not ridiculously fast right so I had to rely on skill a lot more I had to rely on angles
a lot more I had to study the game a lot more and it just never changed working out and you start talking to yourself saying man my my knee is really sore right now maybe I'm maybe I'm doing too much maybe I need to back off you know man my lungs are burning and I maybe I can just slow down here I'll do like an extra two sets tomorrow you know it'll be okay right that sort of stuff yes like that stuff's dangerous and that's got to say you know what I'm not negotiating with myself
yeah a deal was already made deal was made when I set out at the beginning of the summer and said this is training plan I'm doing I sign that contract with myself I'm doing it you know throughout the that process you'll start talking to yourself like man I got to I think I need to maybe if we nope no this is nonnegotiable nonnegotiable yeah you have to learn to train your mind well beyond motivation if if you have motivation that's great that's some kindling to the fire all it takes is a little bit of spark
you can burn the whole Forest up but motivation you have to learn to exist without it you have to learn to be you have to be your best self and your least motivated I go to such places in my mind and I study the darkness there was no team it was you there was no weight loss program or Mom and Dad waking you up saying you can do it you can be better trying to build belief you built belief when you had nothing Rock Bottom I lived alone for so many years in this misery I
can take myself to such a level of real real passion and purpose I've trained 99% of my life alone I did all of the work alone we're not on this stage just because of Talent OR ability we're up here because of 4:00 a.m. we're up here because of two a days we're five a days we're up here because we had a dream and let nothing stand in our way if anything tried to bring us down we used it to make us stronger we were never satisfied never finished we'll never be retired my high school English
teacher Mr Fisk he had this beautiful quote and and it read rest at the end not in the middle and I took that to heart I believe there's time for resting at the end but for me that time is not now my next dream is to be be honored one day for inspiring the next generation of athletes to have a dream sacrifice for it and never ever rest nobody cares you know at the end of the day nobody cares what we're going through how your body feels nobody cares we got to we got to do
our job and uh we we emphasize that to each other again today you know hey I got your back you got mine nobody cares man we got to go is it fair or no life is tough sometimes and it's not fair and it doesn't care sometimes um but you're going to hold true to what you believe and you're going to hold true to who you are and going to be that person whether it's easier or it's not largely everyone needs to go through the same challenges that you're going through every single difficult thing that you
do is kind of like a massive wall that you need to get over and you go wow I'm so glad that I've got over that wall and think about how many other people are going to fall that wall you want to become best you want to become champion and now you want to say like you tired who cares you tired or not nobody car about you he was tired he have personal problem no I got to thank the man up top G cuz I'm nothing without him last but not least I want to thank me
I want to thank me for believing in me I want to thank me for doing all this hard work I want to thank me for having no days off I want to thank me for for never quitting you know dog you a bad you don't show up guys you know the outcome you'll never get the the job never get the part never get the girl if you don't show up if you show up you're putting yourself in a situation to create this opportunities and when you show up how hard do you go that's the faster
that opportunity will come to life for you it's up to you guys small down payment that you're willing to pay every day to the large investment of a greater life you only got one life guys if you work it right you only need one what I've learned is to to to always keep going always I've come to find out is that you know no matter what happens the storm eventually ends and when the storm does end you want to make sure that you're ready and so I I've really learned to put one foot in front
of the other uh good B different cuz eventually that storm passes those times when you get up early and you work hard those times when you stay up late and you work hard those times when you don't feel like working you're too tired you don't want to push yourself but you do it anyway um that is actually the dream when there saw in the gym in the Pumping Iron days rich people don't sleep8 hours a day that's a third of your life I had 130 days in game just sitting looking at a screen playing one
character in one game if you think ordinary is cool ain't no problem but if you are sitting in this room and you have extraordinary aspirations then you going to have to do extra imagine if I could put this kind of focus into something in real life and just make that seem a little bit like a video game imagine the results I could get then you have to decide if you are willing to do the things to put you in that category you know when you're kind of addicted to it uh you can you can play
at any time you cannot be sleep 8 hours a day you can't live in LA L and wake up at 8:00 in the morning it's 11:00 on the East Coast the stock market been open 2 hours they already making decisions about your life and your ass was sleep and again so I was just like imagine if I could feel like that but in real life turn life into a video game the Bible says he who loves to sleep and the folding of hands poverty will set upon you like a thief in the night there was
probably a 100 days where I didn't want to do anything I wanted to stay in the pool or stay in my in my bed and not get out um but those were the days where you have to you have to get up and do something because I think that's really what separates the good from the great the greats do things when they don't always want to do them be the guy who Embraces the ugly the miserable be the guy who Embraces hard work the grind don't be afraid of being hurt don't be afraid of sacrificing
some blood would I be able to do it would I you don't know until you say yeah I'm going to you know what I'm going to take action nothing changes if nothing changes man and I'm not preaching at you I'm just I just want to remind you cuz you know I've spent a lot of time in my life sitting around wanting things to change um and not being able to make them change and and not thinking I could and I wish somebody had told me that earlier sometimes that in order for something to change there
needs to be change you're lazy you know exactly what to do exactly what to do cuz even me in my state of I can't read and write I know exactly what to do it just sucks doing it I've made huge huge huge developments while I was staying up until 400 in the morning 5: in the morning running a nightlife business you can make huge developments in your personal growth Journey while you're doing a 9 to5 I'm going to have setbacks I know but if I'm feeling bad that doesn't mean I'm doing bad that doesn't mean
I am bad that doesn't mean that I can't still take some action because yeah nothing changes and nothing changes man you're going to lose sleep you'll doubt whether it'll work you'll stress to make ends meet you won't finish your to-do list you'll wonder whether you made the right call and have no way to know for yours this is what hard feels like and that's okay everything worth doing is hard and the more worth doing it is the harder it is the greater the payoff the greater the hardship if it's hard good it means no one
else will do it more for you regret hurts more than discipline because when you're disciplined and you act on the things that you're supposed to do you won't ever have to look back and say dang would have could have should have so do it now so you don't have to do it later I think finding uncomfortable moments and embracing uncomfortable moments are one of the most important things a person can do in terms of understanding themselves and understanding how they think and if you don't do it if you just avoid it you have that uncomfortable
moment you just start boozing or you know you take some pills or something and you just avoid it you're you're never going to figure out what was going on in the first place that led you down that weird Road where now you find yourself crying in a fetal position on your bathroom floor like what how did you get there like are you looking at it or are you just going to take the path of the exceptional person is one of an exception which means that you are not with other people and rather than fighting that
or boning it see it as an indicator that you're on the right path because if everyone else were cheering you on then it means you're not in the right place because it means you're just like everyone else and that's not where you want to be it's supposed to be hard if it wasn't hard everyone would do it the hard is what makes it [Music] great people don't get it there's there's great joy in The Grind Great Joy in the suffer it totally cleanses your body out man of any kind of hate makes you grow up
tell me one thing one thing in your life that is great that came as a result of being comfortable cuz everywhere I look and everywhere I I I see in today's society everybody's doing everything they can to be more comfortable right they're looking for the more convenience they're looking for the quicker looking for the faster all the great things in my life all the great things in other high Achievers lives all the reasons that these successful people that you look up to that you aspire to be like are the way they are have all come
from a place of being uncomfortable okay so understand that when you're trying to avoid the pain when you're trying to avoid the struggle when you're trying to avoid the hard thing in life you are actively choosing to be average you are actively choosing to be mediocre and you are actively choosing to move further away from what you want in life because that hardship and that pain and that struggle and that frustration they give you the skills that will Forge you into a champion I know what Darkness looks like amen I know what it feels like
to be alone with no motivation no drive no passion and what has to come out of youring soul in the darkest of times but if you are able to get up every morning have no passion no drive no motivation and still get up with that kind of fire you will be successful in life I guarantee you that everything worthwhile is uphill you see every dream that you've ever had it's it's all uphill if you have a great relationship with somebody you you had to work on it it it's uphill if you've if you've build a
wonderful business guess what it was uphill if if you've made the right decisions they're they're not easy are they it it it's uphill and the only way that you can go uphill is to be int nobody ever accidentally went uphill you've never talked to a successful person and said how did you get to the top of the mountain and then look at you and say I have no idea if they're at the top of the mountain they know how they got there because they had to have effort it took energy it took time everything worthwhile
everything worthwhile is uphill you cannot change your life unless you change something if you always do what you always did you'll always get what you always got you have to learn how to fail a lot of us have Big Dreams big goals and when you have goals that are maybe outside your reach you have to know that getting to that goal you're going to have a lot of bad days so I had to teach myself how to fail right and what that means is when I fail I can't spend much time in that fail Zone
I have to be able to get up and get after the next day just as fast I don't have time to stay here and feel bad for myself for weeks and months and years cuz I'll lose that time the hardest thing in life is figuring out who you are and what you want to do for the rest of your life and once you figure that out you wake up every day and you work toward it it's impossible for you to fail if you know who you are what you want to do and you wake up
every day and work toward it you know when when you when you say you're going to do something and then you follow through and you do it not not not at the end when you you know you cross the marathon you finish it or or your hands raised I'm talking about right now the small steps in between the big successes everyone sees no one sees this scream to me the other night hey Will I want to be an actor man I want to be an actor just like you you know usually people say stuff to
me like that I'm like yeah man you know you do give them an encouraging word but I was just sitting here thinking and it dawned on me 99% of people that say stuff like that are not willing to do what it takes to make their dreams come true the Marines have a saying everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die and that's just real at the center of bringing any dream into fruition is self discipline you know some something as simple as food and eating it it's not about your your body as
much as it is about your mind it's getting command of your mind to be able to choose actions that are in your own best interest every day we are choosing that's not in our own best interest right so if the world is attacking you and the world wants to fight you and the world's trying to hold you down so you going to kick yourself in the balls so you will stop yourself from getting what you dream self discipline is the center of all material success you cannot win the war against the world if you can't
win the war against your own mind push through pain enough and there's glory on the other side of it but you got to get through it and sometimes getting through it is coming out your comfort zone the individual who is willing to endure more pain more suffering more obstacles more setbacks more failure will win in the end it is that simple man up Take It on the chin just like your ancestor did this is what you were born for this is what you were born to do
