Your life is short and sometimes can be unpredictable and take you by surprise. I couldn't stop thinking about this graph that was shared by the writer Tim Urban. If you were to visualize someone living to 90 years old The measures, the uses of our life in activities rather than time.
this is what you look like. and each snowflake represents one winter of that year, He was 34 years old, and according to this, he will have a little over 60 winters left. It's so scary and fleeting to see your life this way, isn't it?
This was my wake call. Don't let your life pass you by. as Confucius once said, We have two lives.
And the second one begins when we realize we only have one. So in this video, I want to share with you three insights that can help you make the most of every moment in your life. In order to create a life that's full of joy and meaning, to help you realize that even though your life is incredibly short, it doesn't have to be meaningless.
Your life can be rewarding when you live in the now and with intention and to focus on what really matters most. And this brings me to the first point, which is building meaningful relationships. Many of us wish that we had spent more time with our loved ones once they had passed away.
We have this illusion that there will always be more time and that they will always be there. But the truth is, the relationship that we have with our siblings, our parents, our family really is concentrated in the first few years of our life. And as you grow independent and you leave home, those moments of time become so much more rare.
I certainly felt this my left home after I went to university, and I realized how difficult it was to get our parents my brother, his girlfriend, our little family of myself, my husband and my daughter together into one place because we're spread across three different continents. And because now I have a kiddo who's four years old. I'm desperately trying to hold on to those early precious years as she's growing up so quickly.
And I realize I can't. And all I have left are those wonderful memories that we made ever since the day that she was born. And I don't know about you, but sometimes I wonder about this.
You can feel that your life can be so meaningless when you work so hard your whole life. And by the end of it, you wonder what it's all for. But here's another way to see it.
As said by the Indian philosopher Ms. . Agata Maharaj.
Wisdom tells me that I'm nothing. But love tells me that I'm everything. Wisdom tells me that in the grand scheme of things, life is meaningless.
But love tells me that is the people that you spend time with, the people that love you, the people that are closest to you. You mean so much to them and to them. You are their world.
So what can you do to make the most of the time that's left to spend it with your loved ones? And Tim shared this in that blog post that he shared alongside with the graphic is that, number one, proximity matters. Living near your closest and your dearest really maximized your time together.
And this is one of the biggest goals I have in my life right now, is I want to spend more time around my aging parents, which can be often hard when you have an international base family with friends and family spread across different continents. But I'm trying the best I can. And number two is prioritize ruthlessly to focus on those that matter the most to you in your life right now.
Think about this. Who truly matters in your life right now? Make time for them.
Market and block it in your calendar for them before that calendar gets filled up with other things. That makes you too busy to go see them and not some time in the future because the future just becomes forever. And lastly is that quality matters so much more than the quantity of time spent together.
When you're spending time on your loved ones, be truly presence. Think about how much your future self would give to come back to this moment right now. I think about this a lot.
When my daughter is tugging at my sleeve and asking me, Mommy, please come play with me. And even though I'm really busy in the middle of something, I always drop one I'm doing and I go spend that time with her because I know that the future Lori will give anything the world to come back to this very moment, to experience that moment again with her. And to me, life and time is a precious resource.
Let's invest it in what matters the most to us in our lifetime. And this brings me to the next point, which is what does a life well lived mean for you and for some of you, success and having a life well lived might mean that you're making more money, that you have bigger houses. Or maybe you're having nicer cars.
And for some of you, it may mean that you're living a life of impact or perhaps having a life full of joy, meaning and purpose. But there's no right or wrong answer here is that we all have different definitions of success, and one life well lived means for us. For me?
What I value the most in my life is health and freedom, the ability to stay healthy so I can enjoy the memories I'm making with my family and friends and the freedom to do what I want, when I want with who I want for as long as I want is priceless. And this to borrow that quotes from one of my favorite books of all time Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel. The key to remember is that whatever your definition of a life well lived is no one's going to live it on your behalf.
Life is too short to do things that you don't like try to be someone else, to look for validation from others to complain about things are outside your control. To spend it with people that bring you down, to compare with other people and their own journeys, and to spend it in your comfort zone and to postpone when you could have been one of my favorite questions, when I reflected on this was when I watched the Stanford commencement speech by Steve Jobs. for the past 33 years, I've looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself if today were the last day of my life what I want to do, what I am about to do today.
And whenever the answer has been no for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something. And I think thinking about the end in mind will really help us because there's this concept of the law scarcity, the perception of something is so much more valuable when we realize that it's in limited supply, we don't realize the urgency and the importance of something until someone takes away. It's kind of human nature, isn't it?
And I encourage you to take this moment, maybe write this one down, to reflect on this question. If today were the last day of your life, would you want to do what you're about to do today? If not, think about what that might be.
And it doesn't mean that you have to make drastic changes, But this is often the start of something, a spark in your life that leads you to something great. This happened to me and gradually I start to focus on what really mattered in my life. Instead.
so remember that life is short, but it doesn't mean that you have to do more is about cognition, the things that don't matter to you and to focus on doing the things that matters the most. And this brings me to the third point, which is embracing a life long journey of learning. I've now come to realize that having true fulfillment in my life comes from leveraging my own unique abilities and perspectives to create a real impact.
and you have the unique qualities that you'll be able to use to make a real impact in this world to as humans, Our natural ability of creativity and reason really separates us from the rest of the other species. We have the ability to invent and create in this modern world with more tools and ever possible before. will, I get the freedom to tap in my creativity and reason.
I feel that I have a sense of purpose that lights me up every single morning when I wake up to do what I meant to do. I feel that there's so many ways to contribute in this world and for me to grow as an individual every single day, being able to share what I know and what I'm learning along the way. Help me to find that meaning and purpose in doing what I'm doing right now.
And deep down, I know that's the reason why I started this YouTube channel, because I always want to create a helpful resource for other people. And I don't believe that learning starts as soon as we leave the school system. In fact, I think learning really begins the moment that we go from school into the real world.
Don't you often feel that you don't exactly remember everything that you learned in school, but you remember the things that you learned from real life experiences through events and books that you read, or perhaps even the people that you met along the way. the world's, changing fast technologies disrupts societies, transform, and new challenges come up every single day to thrive in this world, asking to adopt a growth mindset that helps you stay ahead of the curve by having a journey of lifelong learning. How do you and instead of being a follower, being someone that shapes the world as you grow?
I've had so many pivots of directions in my life, and that was the reason that I was able to go from being unemployed to eventually working at Google and eventually launching my own business and also launching this YouTube channel because I've learned to embrace every reinvention as an evolution into the person that I am today. Because I realized no matter how much that we think we know, there's always room for expanding and exploring. And doesn't that make your life so much more exciting to be consciously growing as an individual?
So in the lifespan of the universe of billions of years, your few decades of life, it's like a speck of sand in the vast desert. But it doesn't mean that your life has to be meaningless. And I'm sure that you agree with me.
By the time you get to your deathbed, it doesn't really matter what others thought of you. what matters most is if you feel happy with the life that you lived, whether you felt like you lived a life true to yourself, not a life for others. And if you're happy, the life that you lived, you can die happy.
And life is short. If you waste time, life is short. When you put off and postpone yourself.
Life is short. When you put up a future that may or may not come because you haven't taken the action. although life is short, but if you live in the now to focus on matters most, life can be incredibly rewarding and long when you live with intention.
Because when you do what you enjoy with the people that you enjoy the most, life can feel like it's an incredible, beautiful flow So to sum it all up, be relentless. To prioritize and focus on what really matters in your life. Don't wait for the next step to savor every moment and to pursue the life that you want because your life do matter and you marry to those who love you and you are there.
