Guys, today I’m here at the Barigui Park, in Curitiba. I want to bring a word to your heart about the importance of our relationship with God day-by-day John Wesley made the following declaration: “never let a day go without separating at least one hour for your devotional time. The mark of great man of God in history is that they had their daily time with God, allowed themselves to live daily renewal.
We need it so, so much. In the next few minutes I want to show you by the word of God that this is a principle, it is a doctrine clearly revealed to us. In 2 Corinthians 4:16, Paul the apostle affirms “though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.
" Basically he is showing us two truths, one is that there is a difference between the inner and the outer reality. Outwardly the man is corrupted, a mention to aging. Day after day we are deteriorating we can say, but innerly he speaks of the possibility of not only living in a different condition, but he speaks of the opposite, of living renewal.
I want to specially talk about this subject, the daily renewal We need to understand some truths. One of them is that God created men and He demonstrated from the beginning the expectative of having a daily relationship. In Genesis 3:8, the Word of God says the Lord visited Adam and Eve, the first couple that He established in the Garden of Eden, He daily visited them.
This shows us the expectations of God in having a daily relationship. Many times, we think under the perspective of a service day. In the old testament they separated the Saturdays.
The church, in its christian tradition, signed and determined it should be Sunday, but the truth is Word of God never defined a day that we should seek him. The Word of God, since the beginning, reveals the expectancy God had to encounter us day after day. The relationship with God is daily.
We can clearly realize that when Jesus, teaching us the prayer model, he teaches us what we nicknamed “the Our Father prayer", to say: Give us this day the daily bread. So today I pray for today’s bread. What about tomorrow?
Tomorrow I pray again. Tomorrow I turn to seek God for the daily bread, so, it is a daily prayer. The Lord Jesus established in a very clear way this term that I go to God dat after day.
So the expectancy of God, in the beginning of creation of mankind, continues being just the same when Jesus, in the new testament comes to instruct us regarding our relationship with God. God doesn’t only expect us to come to Him daily, and there are many figures in the bible that reinforce that. For example, in the old testament, we can refer to the manna.
Dar after day, morning after morning, they needed to get up again and gather manna. It’s like God was saying: “I am sending my sustainment quote to you in a daily way. " Jeremiah, in the book of Lamentations, shows us that the Mercies of the Lord are renewed each morning.
He is not necessarily saying that the mercy of God has an expiration date, but what he is saying is that each morning we should engage with the Lord again. We need to seek the same mercy that was sought in the previous day, precisamos buscá-la no dia seguinte. So this doesn’t speak of a validation date, I repeat, of what God offers us, but it speaks about the importance of us going to Him day after day.
Many times we look to the lives of other that are close to us that we accompany, people that are under us and based on them it’s easier to talk about what I said that is general. We have a lot of people that demonstrate difficulties in advancing, in growing spiritually, in developing maturity, having spiritual constancy and to live a fruitful life and I would say that one of the main motives, that has been stealing us is that we don't understand the daily relationship with God. Some are trying to live that weekly celebration, when all the church gathers for a main service.
Some can add a meeting in the middle of the week, be it on church, or gathering in small groups in the houses but I want to tell you even though it is challenging to take people to a weekly commitment, that will be indeed faithful, pontual, that is already challenging, I want to say: It is not enough. What we need is to separate time to be with God everyday. Now, when we speak of daily renewal, we do not only want to establish a rule that a relationship with God has to go on daily.
We need to understand what is behind it. Why god has this expectancy. Besides God’s wish of bringing man to a place of relationship this is the will of God, Psalms 25:14 says that "The Lord confides in those who fear him;, he makes his covenant known to them" So what God wants is not only a service standard, it isn't only extreme religiousness, God wants us to walk into a place of knowledge, God wants us to be in this place of intimacy with Him, but the proposition is that it won't just lead us to obeying the rule he established, we need to understand why He does that.
Paul the apostle says "Though outwardly we are wasting away", he says, "yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. " We need to understand the principle of renewal. God is not waiting for us to simply want to obey a rule, to satisfy what was pre-determined by Him, but Him, in His love, knows that we actually need renewal.
The christian life, the spiritual life is based and determined on the principle of renewal and the only way we can live sorely this aspect or renovation, of being fed again, being over again fueled by the presence of God, is if we separate time to be with Him. Time with His Word, time in prayer, we need to recognize the necessity our inner man has like the outward man has, for example, of eating. Jesus said: “man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
" The other day someone told me he didn’t feel a necessity of reading the word of God that much after reading so much. I looked at him and said: "friend, I already ate too much. I calculated, If I had eaten a kilogram of food per day and i believe that is a generous measure, not exaggerated, I would have eaten today, at my 44’s, close to 16 tonnes of consume.
" I told him: “it is a lot of food, but if I had stopped 3 years ago, when I was around 15 tonnes, I already ate too much, I don’t need to eat anymore, I wouldn't be here today talking to you, certainly I would have died. " The necessity of getting involved with the Word of God is not only to acquire knowledge, to have information, to say how much I know about the christian life. This involves my capacity of staying alive.
It is my daily sustenance, what renewals me what enables me not only to survive but to live the fullness of what God had for me. I want to encourage you to reply separate time to be with God everyday. Time with the Word.
God gives an order to the kings of Israel. This order inicial was not extended to the whole nation because it was not available to everyone, but to the King of Israel, God says in the book of Deuteronomy: "And when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, e shall write for himself in a book a copy of this law and he shall read in it all the days of his life. " God was saying: “I hope that you get involved with my word daily, just like you eat daily.
" We need to separate time to pray daily. We’ve shown what Jesus taught as a daily prayer, just like biblical readout should be a daily thing. Our time of devotion, of adoration, of demonstrating love, passion for the Lord, must be expressed every day.
This will definitely make us grow I repeat, the inner man has the same needs as the outer man The word of God says in 1 Peter, chapter 2, verse 1 that we should desire the pure spiritual milk so we can grow for salvation. Like the outer man grows, so must the inner man do. And he lives that when being nourished by the right alimentation.
Something you and me really need to understand is that this daily response doesn't put us to a place of satisfying a divine rule, it actually fulfills principles that aim for our good, that blesses us. Many times the reaction of some of us is like if God had maybe established heavy rules for us apparently, just because of the lack of what to do. That is not true.
God said though the prophet Jeremiah: "For I know the plans I have for you plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. " God is saying all the time when he establishes principles for you: “I want what’s best for you, what will bless you. " I believe that in our days, days of rush, intense days, we must rescue the truth that the relationship with God is a daily relationship.
And to find time to be with the Lord day after day. People might be doing it differently. I particularly believe in the one to one moment with God.
The Lord Jesus said: "But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen speak to Him alone. There is a place where we can have a time alone with God. And we can call that maybe the daily devotional.
on the other hand we also need to understand, that Paul when writing to the Ephesians talks about unceasing prayer. This speaks about continuous prayer, that means I can be in the middle of a work day thinking, sighing for the Lord, speaking something to Him in my heart, beyond that moment alone. Day after day I can keep connected with heaven.
Christianity is something to be lived full time. Paul the apostle says: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,. " He speaks that when saying about how servants should relate to their Lords, he was talking about daily work.
Even in the moment we’re working, our focus day after after day should be: I am not doing this for human masters, I’m not doing it for people, I’m doing it for the Lord. If we live with that mentality thinking about Him all the time, seeking Him, praying to the Lord day after day, nos enchendo da palavra, adorando, fazendo o que fazemos para ele, this daily relationship will not only make us grow but it will keep us renewed, it will keep us lit. May God indeed encourage you to have time alone with Him, but also to get deeply involved with the Lord all day.
Every day of your life. This is the daily renewal.
