[Music] today we are in Joshua Tree California my name is Gavin Doan and behind me is the invisible house it gets its nickname obviously from seamlessly disappearing into the red Rocky Barren landscape here in the desert and a special thank you to the trip team who managed this stay and hats off to the designers and owner Chris Hanley and collaborators Frank Gary and Thomas o sinki for creating a home that architect immerses you into its surroundings here this home is also currently on the market for $18 million and with that let's go ah and start
this tour so starting this Tour on the exterior I want to talk about the obvious and that's the two-way mirrored glass all this clad finish on the facade on what basically is a 22 story high New York City skyscraper leaning on its side so if you come over here so you have these two concrete pillars and it allows this structure just a can a lever over these enormous Boulders and you notice the landscape is very rugged like the rest of the terrain here and that's because they didn't move or touch anything you have an anchoring
Point down here and then all this obviously is just floating kind of give a perspective of how tall these pillars are I'm 66 and my head is touching the ceiling right here so got a little bit of clearance under here if you're wandering around on the 672 Acres that are found here I want to point out the three tiers of glass so the lower level is just kind of covering up the construction just the industriousness of this structure and then the middle which gives it that Flor to ceiling feeling once you're in the indoors of
just that glass to kind of really just again reconnect you to the outdoor space and then the top one is covering all the HVAC and solar panels that power this home so with that being said let's go head up to the front and and I want to point out all the Joshua trees that are here on this property kind of a fun fact Joshua trees live up to 500 years and they grow about a couple inches per year on one torrential rainfall a year here in the desert and they survive on that and there's a
really diverse ecosystem for it being so Stark here in the desert you have this concrete pad that actually wraps around almost the entire length of the 225 ft long structure 24 ft and 11 in wide 21 ft High here on the facade and then soaring 12T tall ceilings on the inside and you're going to see the very industrious mixed use of Steel you know aluminum concrete and glass everywhere inside this home and I just want to also know how peaceful it's been since we've gotten here I haven't heard anything but birds I haven't heard the
hum of tires since we've gotten here and I think that's what this home's about it's just getting away being very isolated in your own place while still feeling connected I mean the air is just so fresh out here it's uh it's really really beautiful and and the weather we could have picked a more perfect day to do this tour with you guys so three bedrooms four bathrooms and just under 5500 ft here in this home starting with these sliding glass doors 12 ft tall so immediately step into our first bedroom of three got this marble
platform with this bed and the headboard is even marble as well and you have these floss fixtures throughout the home a lot of bespoke items throughout this space and you can look up it's very industrious like I've mentioned all that metal just exposed and you see this floor to ceiling glass that we saw on the outside that's that entire panel that second panel in that tier of three that you saw from the exterior so if you come around here we've got our first bathroom but first I'm going to show you guys this and you're going
to see Lydia here in the reflection but these are oneway mirrors and they're all obviously here for privacy and there's a respective one on the opposite side as there's two entries and exits here this is our bathroom again that mirrored sliding barn door that Pockets this time super minimal realistic not a ton of detail in here but it's very simple again the whole point of this home is to be focused on what's outside and just to feel calm and you've got a stainless steel environment here in the bathroom with the rainfall shower head but now
back out we're going to head to our 100 foot long pool so when you pull up to this home that's your first statement piece right the exterior of this home is super striking and when you walk in taking up most of the square footage of this home is your 100 foot long lap pool heated by the solar panels on top of this home so it's really cool again sustainability Tranquility is what this home is about and that's why they built this space just to feel [Music] connected out here you have a sliding door and again
this is where the Colorado desert and the Mojave Desert meet so you've got two deserts meeting right here formed to these beautiful Hills from the torrential downpours and the harsh winds so it's a very shadowy and Cool Desert the temperatures fluctuate day and night obviously being in the desert of course we've got more sliding doors that I'll point out as we walk down this 100 foot long lap pool I want to get in so bad I used to be a swimmer so I might have to jump in this pool and do some laps test it
out you know just for just for research purposes above you see the lighting that you've got all the way down and this looks insane at night it's just so cool I mean where else do you have something like this in just the middle of the desert again you're see on 67 Acres you've got a really cool chest piece right here with this very low cut glass side table all the furniture right here is super modern very minimalistic again focusing on what we're seeing everywhere more sliding glass doors right here this whole thing opens up and
this might be one of the most photo red videographed homes in the desert and especially in Joshua Tree so as you push open these 12 foot tall glass sliding doors got again that wraparound concrete pad have the sun setting behind this mountain right here again all completely untouched off in the distance about Northwest is Sero Deasia which is a mountain nicknamed after the real mountain in Mexico and this is all yours all this land is yours and it's amazing because you just walk around you almost get lost on your own property and this is a
beautiful shot have all this rugged landscape all uneven and then if I don't slip you can see all the sliding glass doors a little bit better from this side of the property as it just disappears into the landscape so now stepping back inside you have these two pool Chairs set up in between is this glass side table and this is their next project this is called The Starburst house so it's a bunch of shipping containers stacked up on top of each other other in different angular ways so the way this is going to interact with
light and obviously the sustainability of reusing those shipping containers for a stay in a home is awesome so turn on that notification Bell if you guys haven't already cuz we are going to be touring that in the near near future low profile seating area here in the living area more of the floss fixture hanging above 86 in TV sit right here and again we're here for the views right guys so if you don't want to be watching TV you want to enjoy more of those views it's on rollers roll that out of the way so
as you open up these 12T tall sliding glass doors once again it reveals those natural rock formations right out your door it's amazing because you can experience all this while being from in here and still feeling like you're inside so it's got those modern Comforts but you just feel so included in what's going on outside I also got a meet up with the owner and designer of the invisible house Chris Hanley where he shared a few words of what influenced him to make this structure I'm a filmmaker but as I said we came from electron
IC music and I was always artificial intelligence philosophy of mind you know all that kind of stuff so uh uh this is kind of sci-fi but in a way uh this monolithic form it was originally designed just for us so there was no concept of selling the place it was like we were going to you know have Daman H anatomical man sculptures I did own this 21 ft high like anatomical man but uh I don't have that anymore uh it would have been like up against the rocks and neighbors would have probably reported me to
you know the FBI or something if they hadn't already thought that because of this house it ended up being kind of uh beautiful the house in a weird in a way because there's an indoor outdoor you can feel like you can go in and out and when you're outside as the light changes it'll reflect the outside so you'll see the mountains but you'll be able to see inside uh right about sunset which is a very good time of the day so it's it's spectrally selective glass which is part of its uh insulation value so now
coming into the kitchen we have this two-tier Island moment this white countertop that matches the Cabinetry over there by those double oven wolf appliances this is all bofy so they kind of just make this and build this in one piece and then obviously install marble counter toop right here with the melee induction stove top more of that floss lighting that we've been seeing everywhere through about this home and those stainless steel sinks kind of continuing the theme of Steel metal concrete and glass and then over here we've got our Boulder room so stepping into our
second bedroom through that sliding mirrored door that pocks into that metal frame you've got this platform bed marble on the platform KingSize bed for reference and marble on the head Port as well got a bathroom set right here again kind of mimicking the rest of those rooms like we saw this is all glass as well this is pretty sweet so this slides rainfall more of that stainless steel again in there and you've got a view so as you're showering you can literally look West and you've got sunset views from your bathroom it's pretty Spectacular Now
head back out here we're going to check out the third bedroom so off the kitchen this is actually what is known as W frame so this helps the invisible house retain structure as we continue into the canal section like we saw earlier mirrored glass finish right here and if you look close enough you can see some of the lighting from the bathroom in here so kind of a cool feature the whole idea in this home is so you can be immersed in the outdoors at every possible moment so down this hallway before we get to
the primary Suite this bathroom again kind of matches the rest of the vibe of all the other bathrooms with the aluminum in the shower but this is kind of cool so if you come in here and if you turn off the lights in here you can actually see through this and very faintly you can kind of see the mountains and the boulders in in the distance it just kind of a cool feature and that was done intentionally more storage to my right with that mirrored finish including right here with this pocket sliding door right here
with the aluminum frame stepping into the owner Suite you're instantly hit with those panoramic views and those Boulders just coming at you texture is just everywhere here in Joshua Tree this is a really cool freestanding bathtub so what's neat about it and different it actually turn this knob it actually fills from the bottom I've never seen that I thought that was a really cool feature that you don't get to see a lot more of those invisible Brandon towels keeping everything un themed kind of two separate vanities right here and more of those ambient lights kind
of just everywhere aluminum brushed again in here in this space and you step in here and you just have a view and privacy because you're sitting on 60 plus acres so right here drains actually all around on the corners here there's no individual drain here just keeping for that minimalistic modern feel and over here we've got the KingSize bed sitting on a collector's piece right here with this bed frame completely again on brand with the glass of this home and this is kind of interesting so if I were to like jump you can probably feel
that almost through the camera since we are cancellated over here it actually flexes to a certain point um and obviously architecturally like a skyscraper it sways this is no different cuz it's can't leave over so kind of cool so got this neat chair set up next to a gift from believe Joe Perry uh the guitarist from Aerosmith and this is something he actually used you can see all the wear and tear on the back of the guitar and uh yeah just gifted it to the owner Chris and of course you got the amp right here
so you can guys can jam out and stuff and open up these doors and just hang out I mean this whole home is just a Vibe and just the views just go on and on here in the desert over here is that little casido that is where the owners Roberta and Chris actually stayed and then the county came down on them and was like hey you got to you got to make this thing wider it doesn't meet you know obviously their their code and so they built this which is 24t wide and 11 in so
basically 5T over the requirement this home is just something else it's like out of a sci-fi movie and it fits Chris's personality perfectly and again thank you to the field trip team for allowing us to showcase this property and bring you guys along with us as we toured the invisible house and as always more information with them is down below in the description and with that I'll see you guys in the next [Music] episode
