yo welcome back before I get into this week's episode on how to overcome laziness with God's word and stop being a lazy Christian I want to speak to the Christians that are looking for some good Christian clothing my friend from Godly just sent me some shirts they've got shirts like this and hoodies like this and they're also free shipping right now if you want to save 10% off you can use my code bra and I love it because the brand is spelled g DL y g stands for being grateful in your trials and struggles that
God uses to shape you d stands for diligently following and working towards what God has shown you L stands for loving yourself and others along the way and why stands for yielding to God's plan completely and always so if you want some good Christian clothing I'm going to leave the link in the bio of both the YouTube and Spotify episodes so I definitely recommend checking it out and if you want to support a smaller Christian brand that's kind of getting started right now so let's get into the word for this week's episode I think one
of the most annoying things you can be as a Christian is lazy and I'll tell you why it is nearly impossible to grow as a person or grow in your relationship with God if you're lazy James 4:8 says draw near to God and he'll draw near to you so you got to draw near first but if you're not Drawing Near because you're too lazy you're not going to grow with him Jeremiah 2913 God says you will seek him and find him when you seek him with your whole heart but if you're too lazy to seek
him with your whole heart you're not going to find him see what I'm saying laziness ruins us as Christians but I think God taught me why laziness is a sin and how to overcome laziness so welcome back to the house of Jacob podcast we in this house we serve the Lord I'm your host Braxton now this week we've got a we're going to talk about laziness and honestly I didn't think I was going to talk about laziness on the podast for a while to be so honest but I got a fire word that God has
placed on my heart for y'all and I'm going to teach it to the lazy Christians you little sluggards but yeah um we are actually filming where I'm filming this right now I'm filming it where I filmed I think it was episode three it was called breaking the cycle of sin this is where that was filmed I was going to go to this like beautiful Lake to film but there were people fishing there and I was like all right whatever I'll come here at different time but yeah that's what we're talking about today and I will
say for the YouTube homies for those watching this on YouTube you're fake I asked lastek for those for everyone watching to comment if I should grow the goatee or not bro guess who commented zero yall are all fake y'all are all fake so I grew it anyways but y'all are all fake still but let's talk about laziness today we're going to talk about three main things we're going to talk about what scripture says about laziness we're going to talk about why laziness is a sin and then we're going to talk about how to overcome laziness
and I have the most freaking fire word for you guys today on this week's episode D this might end up being one of my favorite episodes so let's let's look at what the Bible says about laziness Colossians 3:23 Paul says whatever you do work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord not for human Masters 1 Timothy 5'8 Paul says anyone who does not provide for their relatives and especially for their household has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever Proverbs 10:5 he who gathers crops in summer is a prudent
Sun but he who sleeps during Harvest is a disgraceful son Proverbs 26:15 a sluggard buries his hand in the dish and he is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth and then we're going to come back to Proverbs 24 and um Proverbs 6 later but if you didn't pick up on it already Proverbs talks about laziness a lot like bro a lot but basically long story short the Bible tells us that we should work hard on all we do that we should use our time wisely that we shouldn't be sluggards that we're disgraceful
Sons if we're sluggards and stuff like that but the question is the question is why is laziness a sin is that a bug what the heck is that what is that what is that o o I think it's a moth whatever whatever I'm getting distracted guys come on we need to get the word um I want to talk about why ladies in say a sin I was actually I was asking Jesus about this maybe a month or two ago and I I think he revealed the craziest thing to me you know why I think laziness
is a sin it's arrogance it's the Arrogant assumption like laziness and procrastination the reason laziness and procrastination are sins are because they're the Arrogant assumption that God is going to give you another time to do what you need to do you're too lazy to get in your Bible to grow in your relationship with God to seek the Lord you're too lazy to go get a job and do work you're too lazy to do your homework or whatever you're lazy because you're arrogantly assuming that God is going to give you another time to do what you
need to do literally you can trace any form of laziness back to that bride I'm too lazy to go get this work done around my house I'm too lazy to do this you're lazy because you're pridefully assuming God's going to give you more time to do what you need to do the Bible makes it very clear clear that tomorrow is never promised James says in the Book of James that every good and perfect gift comes from above he also says in James 4 to not boast about tomorrow and say tomorrow we will go do this
and this but to rather say if the Lord Wills we will go do this and this and this so you know why I think laziness is a sin I think it's the arogant assumption that God is going to give you more time to do what you need to do and James says in James 4:13 to16 to not boast about tomorrow to not assume that there will be tomorrow to not say tomorrow we will go into this town and do this and this and this but to rather say if the Lord Wills we will go do
this because James says all such boasting is evil we shouldn't boast about tomorrow we shouldn't assume we are going to go do this tomorrow we should say if the Lord Wills I will so I think we must remember when it comes to laziness that tomorrow is never promised and when we procrastinate when we're too lazy to go get something done when we're too lazy to go seek the Lord to go get a job and work when we're too lazy to do our homework or do our chores around the house or whatever we're too lazy because
we're arrogant because we're arrogantly assuming God will provide more time to use I think about this analogy I think it's almost like you have this boss that you asked to give him some more extra hours to work because you need the money and he gave them to you but then when you went to work you just sat on your phone the whole time and you didn't do any work that's arrogance you asked your boss for more time for more hours and when he gave it to you you were like H I don't feel like working
bro that's arrogance genuinely that's pride and I think that's I think laziness is the same way and I honestly think you can trace almost any sin back to laziness the only one I can't really see how you can trace to laziness as lust but I can see almost every sin Trace back to laziness in some way genuinely it's so easy so I think that's why laziness is a sin I also want to look at Proverbs 24 Proverbs 24 um actually I want to look at Proverbs 6 Proverbs 6 6-1 says go to the ant you
sluggard consider its ways and be wise it has no Commander no overseer or ruler yet it stores its Provisions in summer and gathers its food and harvest how long will you lie there you Slugger will you get up from your sleep a little sleep a little Slumber a little folding of the hands to rest and poverty will come upon you like a thief and scarcity like an armored man armed man sorry dude this is why I think is so important the writer of this proverb says go to the ant you lazy person and observe its
ways and be wise because he says that the ant has no boss no ruler no no Commander but it's still it just goes and stores its Provisions its food in the summer and it gathers its food and harvest he says look at the ant because even the tiny little ant the little pointless ant works all the time I mean you bro you study ants bro they are never not working and the the writer of this proverb Solomon is telling us here to be like the ants man just always working no Commander no ruler no overseer
they just work and he says consider its ways and be wise and I think in the same way that's how we should be we should consider the ways of like an ant and be wise working hard in all of we do and I think that actually kind of leads me as to how to overcome laziness so I want to reflect a little bit let's answer the question let's answer two questions right now why is laziness a sin and how do we overcome laziness laziness is a sin laziness sorry laziness and procrastination are sins because we're
arrogantly assuming God is going to give us more time to do what we need to do now the way we overcome this is actually I think Paul says in Ephesians 5:15 to16 Paul says be be very careful then how you live not as unwise but as wise making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil Paul tells us here to be wise and make the most of every opportunity I think that's how we live as Christians I think that's how we stop being lazy we make the most of every opportunity every day God
gives you 24 hours a day to do what you need to do to get in his word to seek him to tell other people about him to apply the word to work hard at your job to do things around your house to do what you need to do he gives you 24 hours to do it there is no reason you can't do that he gives you 24 hours a day to go do what you need to do obviously minus whatever amount you sleep so I think that's how we overcome laziness I think we stop we
we stop being unwise and we wisely make the most of every opportunity God gives us every hour every minute that he gives us to seek him to tell others to seek Him to guide others to him to work hard to provide for our families and ourselves I think that's how we overcome laziness now we like I said we look at laziness and we see that it's a sin because we're boasting about tomorrow we're assuming we are going to go do this tomorrow we're doing what James says not to do in James 4:13 to16 we're saying
ah I'll do it tomorrow that's boasting about tomorrow so the way we stop procrastinating being laziness is we humble ourselves and understand that every single time God gives us every 24 hours is a gift it's not owed to you God doesn't owe you another day on this Earth not at all God does not owe you anything but he provides you everything he provides you 24 hours a day to do what you need to do to help others to love others to love yourself to love him to seek Him you've got 24 hours to do all
of that so that's how we overcome laziness we stop being foolish and arrogant and unwise and we make the most of every opportunity God gives us we humble ourselves and put away our arrogant pride and remember that every day God gives us was not owed to us but as James says in the Book of James it was a gift it was a gift and when you understand it was a gift you're going to use it very wisely you're a lot more appreciative than a gift of a gift than a reward a reward was owed to
you God doesn't owe you a reward he doesn't owe you anything everything is a gift including the time that you're using to watch this episode right now so I want you to hear my words and I want you to do what Paul says here I want you to be wise I want you to go use the time God gives you wisely I think this word is something that that was so simple but I that that Jesus taught me that like procrastination is the arrogance that he's going to give us more time to do what we
need to do but I I think that's so true that it's that it's that arrogance that Pride so I think the way we overcome laziness is humbling ourselves and understanding that every minute we have God has given us it's a gift so we use it wisely like do you know how arant and prideful you have to be for someone to provide a gift for you and you just you just like don't use it you don't do anything with it I think about like the the parable of the what is it the parable of the talents
I think is what it is we're like the the boss or whatever he was there were like three workers and he gave one of them this amount of talents one of them this amount one of them this amount two of them went and they did stuff and they invested and doubled the amount of talents they had one of them was scared and lazy so he hid it until the boss came back and the boss cursed that servant he said you Wicked and lazy servant I think I think about that like with us it's the same
with us God gives us talents or time and some people invest that time and they use it wisely they use it for the kingdom they bring people closer to Christ they bring themselves closer to Christ they work hard for their family others are like the third servant and they're lazy and they're scared so they hide their time they hide their talents and they don't do anything with it they waste it don't waste the time God has given you don't waste the time God has given you he didn't owe it to you but you need it
don't be prideful don't be arrogant be wise in the way you use the time God has given you because he didn't owe you another day and I think that's the second way we overcome laziness is gratitude I think you gratefully accept and I think that's so funny because we're talking about you know that was the first thing about this company with the G is uh gratitude I think that's how we overcome laziness is gratitude we're grateful that God has given us more time to do what we need to do to bring others to Salvation to
help others to love others to treat ourselves and to seek Christ and grow closer to God and seek his face you know what I'm saying and I think out of that gratitude if you're genuinely grateful for that you're not lazy you'll be wise in the way you use your time cuz you're grateful that God even gave you another day you roll out of bed and you say oh my thank you God for another morning I know you didn't owe it to me so I pray that I could use today wisely because today is a gift
every single day is a gift this is the day the Lord has made so let us rejoice in it that's what I think about every day is the Lord has made is the day the Lord has made so may we rejoice in it that is why we live for Jesus every single day that is why we're not lazy that's why we work hard in all we do because every day is the day the Lord has made so let us greatfully and diligently rejoice in it so overcome your laziness with God's word my friend overcome your
laziness with humility and gratitude so to answer your question to sum it up let's sum it up laziness and procrastination is a sin because you're arrogantly assuming God is going to give you more time to do what you need to do you're acting like the the third servant in the parable of I think it's the parable of the talents where he was scared and lazy so he buried his talents until the boss came back and the boss said you Wicked and lazy servant so the way we overcome laziness this is how we overcome laziness gratitude
and humility and God's word obviously we're gratefully remember that this is the day the Lord has made let us rejoice in it we gratefully remember that every day is the day the Lord has made so we will rejoice in it diligently and wisely using every moment God has given us and then the second way we overcome laziness is humility we humble ourselves and understand that every day we have God has given us it wasn't no to us God didn't owe you another 24 hours he didn't owe you another minute another breath and because of that
you gratefully and humbly use your time wisely to bring others to Salvation to provide for your family and yourself to work hard in all you do to seek the face of God to seek the presence of God to get in the word of God you use the time God has given you wisely because you humbly remember that this is the day the Lord has made so I will rejoice in it diligently by working hard gratefully humbly so that's how you overcome laziness with gratitude and humility you humbly remember that this is the day the Lord
gave you he didn't owe it to you he just gave you it so use it wisely don't be arrogant in the way you use today but use it wisely my friend I'll see youall next week no we're going to pray together dude I keep I forgot to do that last week let's pray together Lord we thank you for the good word you've put ahead of us today we pray that um those who struggle in their laziness Lord that you would send this episode their way that they may learn Lord I just pray you help us
to overcome laziness with humility and gratitude and your word Lord help us to be wise in the time you've given us and remember that all time we have was given to us by you as a gift it was not owed to us so let us use it wisely let us remember that every day is the day the Lord has made so let us rejoice in every day and use our time wisely Lord I Thank you for the beautiful people that are on the other side of the screen watching this Lord Lord I pray over them
even though they're not yet here and they will watch this episode later I pray over each person Lord that you'd bless them keep them and help them to overcome any laziness in their relationship with you or in their life Lord I pray you protect them and keep them in good health and safety Lord and that you would be with them and you continue to bless them with your presence your voice and your moving hand Lord Lord we thank you for your son who saved us and delivered us from our sin Lord the one you sent
for us to die for us and we just thank you for saving us Lord Jesus we pray all this in your name and your will in Jesus name we pray amen I'll see youall next Sunday my friends God bless you guys
