if I'm being honest I didn't start knowing how I'd get here I didn't have a plan a schedule or much information on the path ahead I started trusting that along the way the path would be revealed but it wasn't always like that in a lot of ways I like knowing exactly how to do something having a road map this probably has something to do with the fact that I'm afraid of things failing putting all this time into something and it not working out out it's happened a lot in my life I think that's normal though
failure I often prescribe it as something only I partake in even though I know that that's not true but this isn't a story about failure this is a story about starting again so I I really like the new year I think there's something to it I think it's really great when we can take a moment to look back and think of everything that we've done and then re-evaluate where we want to go now for me I have no idea where I want to go which is kind of annoying to be honest I don't really have
any new goals or new ideas or new plans I I think I'm just going to keep doing the thing that I'm doing again just starting again there's something unromantic about routine it gets boring mundane and a bit repetitive it acts as a numbing agent to the beauty around us Pursuits of dreams that started with such Joy have dwindled to acts done in repetition and yet this is where most people that Inspire us find themselves daily monthly or even yearly in the mundane embracing boredom not just for 365 days but for what seems like a life
time committed to something greater than what they feel right now you see in a lot of ways this is kind of where I feel like I'm at right now in this Crossroads of loving what I do but also noticing that I'm starting to lose that passion and that inspiration in which I started with [Music] [Applause] [Music] I think there's a lot said for those starting new things as well as for those accomplishing them but what about those in the middle the moments of frustration when it seems nothing's working and you have to show up day
after day I feel like that's where I'm at somewhere in the middle in these moments it's tempting to start something new Ira Glass describes the Gap in the middle as one of the most challenging phases in any Journey the space where your taste far outpaces your ability you can see what great work looks like and you have the ambition to reach it but your own efforts fall short leaving you stuck in this frustrating middle ground it's the point where self-doubt Creeps in and every project feels like a reminder of how far you still have to
go but glass emphasizes that this struggle is essential the only way to close the gap is by showing up day after day and doing the work even when it feels like you're making no progress this middle phase of frustration and uncertainty is where most people quit and if I'm being candid I think it's right here in these routine filled days where boredom Creeps in that we need to just keep showing up remind ourselves of why we started and with each day we start again but I'm not going to lie starting things you don't know how

just going to keep focusing on what I'm working with you know it just hit me there's all this talk on how to start something right like plan uh time block Focus stay consistent and then there's all this talk about you know when you accomplish something when you accomplish your dreams like celebrate you know and I was like well I'm not here and I'm not here and I'm kind of like right in this Middle Ground of like I've started it's kind of working and now I'm kind of getting tired but I'm not where I want to
be but I just have to keep moving forward but with that there's all these questions of like am I going the right way should I should I change things up should I try something new and over the last few months i' I've really felt that you know when you get to this middle part of of when you've set up to do something whether it's creative or career or education when you get to this middle part you kind of you're far enough to where you can't see why you started but you're also not far enough to
where you can see where you're going and you're kind of in the middle like I don't know what to do and I I feel like that's where I'm at right now in this like middle ground and there's not a lot of conversation or talk about how to get through it and I'm not going to sit here saying I know how to but what I am going to say is it's actually really hard and I think my course of action is just going to be it's time to just start again you know like remind myself of
why I started I think that's just like so important like why did you set out to do this thing that you've You' you why did you set out to do this thing that you're doing right now and what what was your end goal when you started but the reality is that's going to change over time your your motivations are going to change it your motivations are going to change your why is going to change and I think I think it's important to embrace that but it's also important to not just start something new because it's
exciting but how can you I don't know just like continue on doing the thing that that you've set out to do just starting again like I you know I every time I finish a video I get this like daunting reminder it's like well I got to make another video and that always is like I just I just did so much to make this video now I have to make another video and that's like that's actually such a privilege to be in that place but if I'm being honest it's also so tiring it's like it's like
it really is like H okay I'm going to do it I'm just going to keep doing it so I wanted to make a video about that like the people that are in the middle the people that that feel tired and there's no there's no one saying like yeah like come on that's so cool um and it feels like the only uh course of action is like keep going keep showing up keep keep embracing the boredom keep embracing the the repetition um I heard someone say it's not about how creative you are it's about how much
you can embrace boredom and I thought that was kind of interesting so anyway I feel like it just ranted randomly for the last four minutes um maybe I'll cut some of it up but if you've gotten this far I want to I want to bring back the 20% let me know in the comments that you've got to this far that you're part of the 20% and what is that thing that you're right in the middle of maybe it's College maybe it's you want to be a cook maybe you want to be a YouTuber maybe you
want to travel the world I don't know but whatever it is just understand that you're probably going to get to a middle part where you feel tired you question the thing that you set out for but my encouragement to you is to keep going don't lose hope try to find that reason you started and hold on to that so one more sip of coffee see you guys in the next one
