did you know that your ear is divided into three parts that you probably didn't even know about it but there's one that is really important that is called inner ear more specifically the cocka which converts Sound Vibrations into electrical signs that are sent to the brain which you probably didn't even know but is crucial for your listening skills well I guess if you're still watching you understood everything that I said until this point but that is not reason why you're here you want to take your listening skills to the next level because maybe sometimes you
don't understand everything and it kind of pisses you off maybe there was a joke that you didn't get it and you're tired of this feeling sometimes you just have to go back and watch it again and of course turn on the subtitles because look I have subtitles on this video so it's kind of weird saying that but it's helpful and the reason why I have subtitles in my videos is because I know that a lot of people that watching me they don't understand completely everything so they have to have subtitles to help them comprehend everything
that I say because in this video I want to share with you some techniques that I use to drastically improve my listening skills But first you have to understand how listening is important because without listening you will never speak the language many people want to speak really well but they don't improve their listening skills listening skills is the foundation of everything without it you will never be able to speak really well and especially in face Toof face interactions if you know how to listen to a person talk is a huge skill that can make the
interactions easier and more comfortable one of the big mistakes that I see a lot of people making is that they just listen but they do anything else for example it's completely normal for people to just watch something and just do nothing else and I know this is completely normal a lot of people do this and for sure you can do that it's going to be helpful anyway but there's another method that differentiate a good listener to an amazing listener and it's called active listening instead of watching something like everybody else does take a moment of
the day to listen to something but engage actively at the same time for example when you're watching a movie or YouTube and you're listening to a person talking try to active listening by actively responding you can also pause the video and summarize what you've heard and write down key points or reflect on how the information applies to you this is not only enhances the understanding but it makes the learning process more interactive and meaningful now when you speak face to face with someone in real life or online in a call for example you're going to
go much deeper not only going to pay attention to the words that are being spoken but to the speaker's emotion as well tone of voice face expressions body language and that's going to be of extreme importance for you to understand better because when you listen to words they they are just words this deep level of Engagement allows you to understand that person better and understand their message more clearly and this is how active listening works and can be of extremely importance for you it makes a huge difference because you know that when you listen to
that person a few minutes later you're not going to forget everything because you were actively listening and you were fully engaged at the moment now this one is a really important one that not a lot of people talk about and do and that can drastically improve your listening skills overnight now let's say you were trying to understand someone talking to you but you were in a place that there was a lot of people around you talking at the same time you wouldn't be able to understand as well as if you were in a place that
was completely silenced just you and that person that is exactly why your environment really matters when you try to understand when you try to listen and when to try to improve your listening skills your brain gets overwhelmed and it's impossible to concentrate on just one sound at a time that happened to me so many times when I start to learn English every day like let me tell you something see if that happened to you a lot or at least did happen to you you're watching a movie or something a YouTube video or whatever and you
you're there trying to improve your listening skills watching something and for a split of second you lose your focus and for like 2 minutes or even 1 minute minut it you don't even remember what the hell you were watching like and then you have to go back and watch it again and it's so annoying because you there trying to focus trying to improve your listening skills and then there's a sound out of nowhere that came from whatever the hell it came from and you just lose your focus for a split of second and then you
don't even know how but you completely lost your place and your mind went to another dimension or something and then you have to go back and watch it again like I said and that's the point that I'm trying to make focus and concentration are so important when you're try to improve your listening skills so make sure when you're trying to improve your listening skills you are in a great environment that you're going to be able to focus completely you know because if you have a lot of sounds around you and all distractions let me tell
you it's going to be a uphill battle for you so make your life easier okay man I'm going to have to put my glasses on oh so let's talk about subus a little bit okay so as you know subtitles is a great way to understand and to comprehend things better you can watch something that doesn't have any sound at all but if you has subtitles you're going to be able to understand and it's completely normal even native speakers watch things with subtitles I don't even know how many accents the English language has but it's a
lot so a lot of Americans don't understand people from the UK so they have to watch things from there with subtitles is normal it's just a way to comprehend things better but one mistake that I see so many people make is that they rely on subtitles too much and they spend a long time months or even years watching things with subtitles and that is different for native speakers and English Learners because native speakers if they want to they can choose to watch something without subtitles and they are not trying to improve their English skills they're
just don't care if they have to watch somebody with subtitles because they don't understand but they're going to be able to understand everything else without subtitles is usually just one thing or maybe two or three things that they watch that they don't understand 100% of everything and they use subitus tool to understand better but it's usually a different a completely different accent that they never heard before or that is really really hard to understand everything but for English Learners if they rely too much on subus they're going to get used to that environment to that
approach and they're never going to be able to overcome their fears to watch something without subtitles and actually improve so it's okay to use subtitles when you try to make the gy from intermediate level to advance but like I said the problem is that it's addictive and comfortable so they keep using it and using it and it never gets to a point that they don't need anymore and they never improve so sometimes try to get out of your comfort zone make your brain get used to watch things without subtitles even though you're not going to
understand everything you're going to improve and improve and improve and then one day you're not going to need them anymore and I know you're watching this with subtitles and it's kind of weird but a lot of people are in this transition of trying to watch things without subtitles but for this specific kind of video that you learn English that you're trying to consume information from me to try to improve your English I have to put subtitles in the video like I said before destructions are a crucial part of whether you will understand something really well
or not and a big part of this is related to focus if you want to improve your listening skills you have to learn how to focus otherwise it's just like scrolling through Tik Tok and try to remember every video that you watched for like 30 seconds pay full attention don't try to watch something else or talk to someone or pick up your phone and start scrolling on Tik Tok at the same time that you're trying to improve your listening skills it's not going to work at all that only decreases your ability to understand things better
so why are you going to sabotage yourself and try to do a lot of things at the same time if you want to improve your listening skills just focus on improve your listening skills that way it's going to make your life easier and you're going to improve much faster but there's one way that destruction is can help help you it's kind of weird but it works like this you distract yourself on purpose so sometimes on purpose you can surround yourself with a lot of sounds and this is an exercise that's going to help you improve
your concentration as well so you have a lot of sounds at the same time so you pick a specific sound in the middle of all those other sounds and you try to concentrate yourself fully on only one sound and see if you can understand everything that can be extremely helpful because it's essentially a concentration exercise because if you can focus on one thing at the same time that there's a lot of sounds around you that essentially is like you training on your worst case scenario so that is hard but makes you improve your concentration and
your ability to understand to hard things and especially in complex environments so one thing that you always have to do is increase your vocabulary like you already know probably because you can improve listening skills but if you don't know the words nothing will make sense and I think you already know this even though I believe that just by consuming English without doing anything you can actually add some words to your vocabulary by simply just understanding the contest in a sentence but that doesn't happen all the time you always have to do something else but don't
try to memorize words that is going to take a lot of your time and it's going to be boring really boring and you're going to give up like after one week doing that but if you are really disciplined you're probably going to last a few months but you're just going to waste your time trying to memorize words so for that I actually came up with a different approach that can actually work way better when you see a word that you don't know write it down with a full sentence and try to consume things that you
know you're going to see that word more often that way you expose yourself to words that you don't know on purpose training your brain to remember them it's way better to just sit on your chair every day trying to memorize 10 20 words every day thinking they memorize them but in reality you didn't and just ended up wasting your time one of the greatest tips that I can give you don't try to always watch only movies and TV shows or entertainment stuff because if you're watching this video right now you have enough knowledge to understand
a lot of things I'm not saying you can't of course you can and you should but people have this habit of always trying to improve their list skills by listening to movies and TV shows but in reality there's so many educational content that you can consume that you're going to understand at least 90% of everything that actually can change your life so imagine this if you only watch movies and TV shows you will improve your English for sure but you have enough knowledge to actually understand everything else why don't you consume educational content that way
you improve your listening skills and at the same time you learn something new and you get better at something something new so for example if you want to start a business if you want to grow your business why don't you watch educational content about businesses you're going to learn about business and also improve your listening skills at the same time so I don't understand this thing like people always talk about TV shows and movies but there's so many educational content that you can consume that's going to be way better for you than actually just watching
movies and TV shows so the point that I'm making here is that if you just watch movies and TV shows you're going to waste your time at the end of the day you're going to just entertain yourself and you're going to improve your listening skills for sure but if you watch educational content you're not going to waste your time you're going to learn something new you're going to get better at something and you're going to improve your listening skills at the same time this is all the tips that I have for you today and I
hope you really found this valuable and I think it's going to change your listening skills if you implement all the things that I said in this video so bye
