The one piece manga has confirmed that we are in Elbaf and the biggest takeaway here is the Yggdrasil tree and its nine mythical realms set the stage for a MASSIVE, FANTASTICAL arc that hints that this fantasy realm might be the true origin of every single non-human creature in one piece including Minks, Totattas, or even the mysterious Oni race. Which also could have CRAZY implications for the true history of the one piece planet relating to things like the Adam and Eve Tree. On top of that, there was a SUPER RARE TRIPLE COMBO ATTACK from Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji which might actually be setting up a major conflict in the near future story.
But first let me break down the nine realms of Yggdrasil and how they will impact the Elbaf arc. And this topic comes straight out of Norse Mythology where the Yggdrasil tree is essentially the universe in Norse Lore. And in this impossibly large tree, we have nine realms that are each basically different words with different races who live there.
And this is actually a MASSIVE clue about the true nature of the One Piece world! Because if you break down the actual realms and the mythological creatures who live there, you can draw some pretty interesting similarities to actual One Piece races. And this is really starting to make me believe the theory that every single non-human race in One Piece once came from the Yggdrasil tree.
Which is just an UNBELIEVABLE piece of lore if it is true, so let me break down this theory. Just to start, let's take the realm of Nidavellir right here. In the mythology, dwarves live in this underground realm and this ties in directly with one piece because we have already met a tribe of dwarves with the Tontatta right here.
What’s even more incredible though is that we know that around nine hundred years ago the Tontatta left their previous home and searched the world for resources which is how they ended up in Drssrosa. But the important part to recognize is that they once had a different home that has remained a mystery up to this point. So if Oda is heavily drawing from Norse mythology here, then the realm of Nidavellir makes perfect sense for the true home of the dwarf tribe.
But that’s far from the only similarity here because you can match pretty much every single realm with a race in the one piece world. Let’s start at the top with Asgard, realm of the gods. Now, there are actually two races who could fit in this realm.
First we have the Lunarian tribe, who we already know were once considered gods who ruled from on top of the world, so placing them at the highest point of the tree in Asgard just makes perfect sense. And we already know the Lunarians were hunted down sometime in the past, so the fact that they were also targeted fits with the Tontattas who also had to flee their home land. On the other hand, we also have the race of winged people who could have also originated in Asgard because they are used to living in the sky.
Plus we know the Enel, who is from the sky island Birka, has a god complex, so maybe the whole idea of being gods is just a part of the culture from when they lived in Asgard. After the land of the true gods, we get a realm of like sorta gods in Vanaheim. And this realm was the trickiest to match with a race because the people of Vanaheim were basically deities of wealth, prosperity, and nature.
There is also some suggestion they could see the future, but overall it is really mysterious so out of all the races in One Piece I think the Three-Eye Tribe could have originated here since they are basically the most mysterious race in all of One Piece. On the other hand, the Minks could also have called Vanaheim their home since they are obviously creatures of nature. Which brings us to the traditional Norse home of the giants, Jotunheim.
Now, this one is a bit of a mystery because while this is traditionally the realm of the giants, I actually think the normal giants we see like Dorry and Brogy come from the Midgard realm. And more on that in a moment, but that would leave Jotunheim for a race like the Ancient Giants who are much bigger and wilder than normal. Just take Oars here for example, who was also said to have died in a frozen place, and Jotunheim happens to be known for being in an endless winter.
So that fits the bill perfectly. So why would the normal giants be in Midgard if Midgard is usually the realm of humans? Well, there are a few reasons.
First, the normal giants are basically the common race of Elbaf. Plus, the normal giants seem to live in the most normal looking houses. This is also where they seemingly interact with humans such as Mother Caramel and Shanks’ crew, so I would guess that the places we’ve seen of Elbaf in the past would most likely be considered Midgard.
Which brings us to Niflheim, which is a misty, cold realm. And we actually have the perfect example of giants who would fit here with the Yeti Cool brothers from Punk Hazard. These giants are different from any other because of their full body fur that would be perfect for living in a frozen land.
And just the opposite of Niflheim is Muspelheim which is the realm of heat and fire. Honestly though, we don’t have a fire-based race in One piece besides the Lunarians, but since I already have them up in Asgard I think the Oni race like Kaido or Yamato would fit nicely in this realm. The last two realms are a bit of a mystery though.
You may have noticed I skipped Alfheim and Helheim, and that’s because these two places have more mystery than nearly any other realm. First, Alfheim is said to be the home of the light elves, but we’ve never really seen a race of elves in one piece. BUT that doesn’t mean we won’t, and since we already have dwarves, giants, and other fantastical creatures, I for one would ABSOLUTELY love it if we were introduced to a race of Elves to complete the classic mythical creature checklist.
That just leaves Helheim though at the bottom of Yggdrasil, which just like the name says, is basically hell or the land of the dead. So I don’t think a specific race originally called this place their home. Now, that’s all the realms, but you may have noticed there is one MAJOR race that I completely left out.
Did you catch it? That would of course be the fishmen race, who I’ll talk more about in just a few minutes with their connection to the Sunlight Tree Eve. That's the basics of the realms though, and I want you to fully understand the importance of all this here because if Elbaf and the Yggdrasil tree truly are the original home of all these races, then just think about all the incredible lore and information we could get during this arc.
Seriously, we could learn why humans took over the world instead of these other races. We could learn why there are so many stupidly large creatures like the Sea Kings or even the super elephants like Zunehsa. We could even learn why Nika and Joy Boy are connected to all of these races.
And I really have to applaud Oda here if all this is true because, beyond all the lore implications, a Yggdrasil tree with nine realms is an INCREDIBLE way to structure the arc. Just like with any arc, the actual landscape and geography of the island plays a HUGE ROLE in shaping the overall narrative of the arc. Just think about Wano where we were separated into these continents which allowed the samurai to build their rebellion.
Or in Water 7 where the sinking island played such a huge role. But to bring this back to Elbaf, if we really do have the true Yggdrasil tree here with nine separate realms, then I just have to imagine Oda will use most if not all of the realms as part of the Structure of the Arc. And just to go a bit crazy here, what if different Straw Hats are all separated into different realms to accomplish some task to progress the arc?
Maybe there’s a mini boss or some piece of a puzzle to find in each section. And if this is true then we of course have to speculate which realm I think each straw hat could visit. First, Luffy would clearly be going up to the land of the gods, Asgard, since he is known to take down gods all throughout the story.
On the other end, Brook makes perfect sense to be down in Helheim. Franky is a bit of a question mark though. The only obvious connection to one of the realms is Nidavellir where he could see all of the fantastic creations of the dwarves .
But Usopp also has strong connections to the dwarves. However, if Usopp is truly going to be a brave warrior I think sending him to the realm of Jotunheim makes too much sense since it could be the realm with the largest giants. Which leaves Jinbe to visit Niflheim, which is probably the worst connection, but I couldn’t find any better place for the straw hat helmsman.
Then I could see Sanji ending up in Vanaheim since that realm is the most connected with food and nature, and then Nami visiting the potential light elves in Alfehim. Now, Robin would obviously go with wherever her long lost friend, Saul, is which I think will be in Midgard. Which just leaves Zoro to fight his way through the fire and Oni’s in Muspelheim.
Which just leaves one major question with Chopper. Where is he going to go? --- Well, since he already seems to be missing in this chapter, I wonder if his disappearance will be a major plot line throughout the arc.
On the other hand, it would be hilarious if the giants in Elbaf treated Monster point Chopper as some sort of god since they already call some other large animals gods as well. Plus Norse lore includes these Stag-like creatures that feed on the Yggdrasil tree, so maybe that bit or lore could play a role in Chopper’s future. And we'll talk more about other mythological creatures we expect to see at the end of the video.
Clearly though, if the straw hats are going to be separated individually like this, or even in smaller groups, that brings up the question of how long will Elbaf be? Of course, we’ve had Oda’s infamous “Five Years Until One Piece Ends” statement in the past, but honestly I don’t really see how Elbaf CAN NOT be a mega arc similar to Wano. I mean, this arc has literally been hinted at longer than any other in the entire story.
And I know Wano had a ton of build up throughout Punk Hazard and Drssrosa leading to the conflict with Kaido, but Elbaf has SO MUCH potential because of the major conflicts we could be getting in this arc. Just listen to all this. First, we have the mystery of the final Road Poneglyph and the knowledge that Saul saved from Ohara.
Then a possible conflict with epic Shanks. There is of course the giant prince Loki who has to play some sort of role as well. Plus, with basically every major island we go to, the Straw Hats play the role of savior for some local oppression.
So I can guarantee that we will have a larger over arching narrative than you might expect. And that’s not even mentioning what might possibly be the most important narrative aspect, which is of course the true history of Nika and Joy Boy. Because from what we saw in Egghead Island there are clearly hints that there is a giant religion based around the Sun God Nika.
Despite that though, there are a few clues that hint that the Nika religion is not actually the dominant belief in all of Elbaf. Because in this very chapter we saw that these giants seem to worship a Rabbit God and even put a crown on this giant cat. On top of that, we don’t know a lot about prince Loki, but from the little we’ve seen of him he doesn’t really seem like a guy following a belief in freedom and joy.
So I kinda imagine that the belief in Nika is a lost religion in Elbaf. Which might be the perfect set up for Luffy to come in and save the giants and restore that faith in Nika. Which should then lead to more hints about who Nika was and what happened to the Sun God.
At least, that’s what I’d like to see. Anyone up for a Nika flashback? ?
Yes, please! But after all that speculation based on the Yggdrasil reveal and confirmation that we are in Elbaf, let’s talk about this MONSTROUS COMBO ATTACK right here. Because wow.
Just wow. It is super rare that we get to see these three combine in a fight, but there is more importance to this scene than just a hype moment. Because if it took the straw hats' strongest fighters working together to take out A SINGLE giant cat, then the crew might be in serious trouble here.
Because come on, how strong is this randome animal? First Commander level? Admiral level?
Maybe not quite, because these three didn’t even use their strongest attacks, but still, I’m kinda worried about the rest of the crew if this is the base power level of the animals on Elbaf. Speaking of Elbaf though, I feel like we need to start some sort of counter for the Fables and Fairy Tales we see throughout the arc. Because as some fans pointed out, in this chapter we start out with a Rabbit God and a Cat as the two important animals.
This is very similar to the story Alice in Wonderland, where two of the first creatures Alice meets are the White Rabbit and the Cheshire cat. Man, but can we just sit back for a minute because I’m still trying to fully comprehend that we are actually in Elbaf! Seriously, we have been waiting nearly ONE THOUSAND chapters since this island was first revealed so to be here now is absolutely incredible.
And there are so many questions spinning around in my head such as what is going on with these Lego buildings! I mean, it’s weird, right? ?
? But for some reason the giants in this chapter just seem like it is normal even though we’ve seen other giant buildings that resemble more classic viking wood cabins. It is starting to make me wonder if this whole place is under some sort of enchantment or spell that has transformed the place into a Lego fantasy land.
Because surely not ALL OF ELBAF will be built out of Legos! Speaking of magic though, if there really are going to be nine realms in Elbaf, then one of my biggest questions is how are they connected? Are they literally all just part of this massive tree we see in the background and you can reach them with some sort of bridge?
Perhaps like the rainbow Bifrost bridge? Or are the realms connected magically and you have to go through some sort of portal to reach the others? That would at least explain how Luffy and this group got up to Elbaf so far ahead of Dorry, Brogy, and the other Straw Hats who are still down on the sea.
Now let’s bring this back to tree though because was Yggdrasil confirmed here, there is actually one other tree we are expecting to find in Elbaf. That is the famous Treasure Tree Adam. We know that it is supposed to be in Elbaf because it supposedly comes from a tree in a war torn land, which is the same way that Elbaf is described.
So the question remians: is Yggdrasil the same as the Adam tree or is the Adam tree a separate tree that we might find somewhere in Elbaf? It’s a great question but if it is here then we will surely find it because of the connections with the thousand sunny, which is made out of Adam wood. But while we’re talking about legendary trees, do you remember when I mentioned that the fishmen race didn’t really fit into Elbaf?
Well, that could be because they come from another of the famous one piece trees, the Sunlight Tree Eve. So maybe all the races originally came form one of the legendary trees. But since my mythology brain is really going in overdrive here, let’s discuss some of the other legendary Norse creatures we could see show up in Elbaf.
Because there are a ton, and I mean A TON! of legendary creatures we could see here, but the two most important I think we could see are the Eagle and the Nidhogg. These are two of the most important creatures connected to Yggdrasil where the Eagle sits on top of the tree and creates giant windstorms with its wings.
Interestingly enough, we may have already had a hint about the eagle with this hanging image right here. Which could mean the straw hats are already close to the eagle’s realm. Now on the exact opposite side of the tree is the Nidhogg, which is a dark dragon that is said to gnaw on Yggdrasil’s roots and trade insults with the Eagle at the top of the tree.
So don’t be surprised if we see a dragon in the story once again. Maybe this is even the ancient home of all one piece dragons. However, those aren’t the only creatures we could see.
My personal favorite of the Norse creatures is this squirrel who just runs up and down the tree carrying insults between the Eagle and Nidhogg. But since we have Loki I wonder if we will have a Thor character or the Valkyrie who are fierce women warriors. Maybe thor could even be the person the straw hats befriend to help set up the initial conflicts.
Then there’s also the Drugr, who are undead spirits, and the Norns who are weavers of fate and I could actually see tying in quite well with the Three Eyed tribe. Regardless of what exciting new characters we see though, this is honestly one of my favorite parts of any new one piece arc. There is so much mystery and possibility.
Plus the new outfits. We have characters like Luffy just so excited to be in a new place versus someone like Nami who is literally freaking out about their situation. There is so much potential here for a good arc, that I can’t wait to see where Oda takes us.
But the biggest question we have to ask is this: Will Elbaf be enough to top the ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE that was Egghead island? I mean we had so much new technology, lore, breathtaking fights. So much so that Egghead possibly did what no other arc has done in the past.
And if you want to see exactly why Egghead succeeded where Wano couldn’t, you can watch this video right here.
