Water with baking soda works for many and for others it is considered dangerous. I am Dr Veller, a cardiologist, and I am going to explain to you how and when to use water with baking soda for your benefit and how and when. Water with baking soda can harm you.
In fact, I want to tell you the dangers of doing it wrong. And I'm also going to tell you a bonus track: What happens if I drink water with baking soda and lemon every morning? And of course I'm going to give you my opinion and my recommendation.
Let us begin. What is baking soda for? Water with baking soda serves to regulate the pH.
You will see our body and especially our blood has a pH that is a form. A number that measures whether something is acidic or alkaline. Our blood has a pH of 7.
4 and this is very important because it only drops a little. It can be a catastrophe. Values of seven, ten and seven.
Notice that I dropped 0. 3. They are practically deadly or a catastrophe, as we say, and that is why maintaining pH is so important for our body.
Just so you understand, pH is a number that goes from zero. The most acidic is zero and the most basic or alkaline is 14. In the middle, seven is considered neutral in our body.
Gastric acid, for example, is very, very acidic. Around 1 to 2 acidity. It is practically the most acidic thing we know.
Urine is also acidic, it can be around 4. 5 to 5 pH, although some urine is alkaline and is normal, foods also have it. That's right, lemon is acidic.
The apple cider vinegar that we take as a natural remedy is also acidic. Tomato is acidic. Within the alkalines we have several substances, including bicarbonate and fruits such as banana, apple, pear, etc.
Now, in what situations do we use it as a medicine? We already said, to regulate the pH, to increase it, to ward off diseases that are acidic. But you have to have some considerations.
I'm going to tell you five ways. The first, during heartburn, as you should use it, the second when the blood is acidic. And I'm going to give you a couple of very serious parentheses.
Many people do it wrong. Number three What happens if I add lemon? Number four?
People use it for sports. Also. I'm going to tell you.
And finally, I am going to give you my opinion about PH and the risks. Let's start here. Stomach.
Our stomach is acidic, we already said. It's a bag. A muscle that has acid, that has a juice that corrodes everything.
It has so much acidity that it corrodes any cell we put in it. If you eat a vegetable, if you eat a piece of meat, the stomach is like a washing machine that squeezes it and mixes it with the acid and breaks it into small portions so that you can digest its stomach acid. It depends, but we have certain habits and they hurt our stomach.
We take its acidity and make it a little higher, a little more alkaline, suppose four or five and our stomach, so that it is not destroyed by the acid, covers it in special cells that release a special mucus. This mucus is essential because it prevents the stomach from directly perforating. Now our habits are smoking, drinking a lot of coffee, drinking a lot of mate, consuming a lot of pure apple cider vinegar or ginger in the long, very long term, without taking care of the stress.
Sleeping poorly causes that layer of mucus to decrease. Taking a lot of antacids causes that layer of mucus to decrease. When the mucus layer decreases, the acid begins to destroy our stomach or our esophagus.
And there we begin to feel what is known as heartburn. Burning When. Like.
When I have gas. And what do we do? Do we take bicarbonate?
Because of course, if we are very close to zero, what we have to do is raise the pH. When it is at four or five, it will hurt less. This is how baking soda works and is used in doses of 1 to 2 grams every four hours.
This comes in pills, it comes in tablets, but it also comes in powder form. Most people buy it in powder form. A teaspoon of tea has between four or five grams.
You should use the tip and take it every four hours. Yes, be careful. This is very important.
Be careful when you take baking soda to increase the acid in your stomach. How do you think your stomach will function without acid? Of course, you will not be able to digest your meals well and they will gastric discomfort, abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea begin.
You are going to absorb minerals poorly. You are going to absorb vitamins like B12 poorly. Because there is a special protein that needs a lot of acid to bind and absorb B12.
Then you are going to have a number of problems by using bicarbonate because you are going to take away from the stomach its primary function, which is grace. On the other hand, if you use it for more than two weeks to cover this symptom, you may be covering up another disease and not cure an ulcer or a severe gastritis infection due to helicobacter pylori. So be careful with the baking soda.
And finally, rebound effect. The stomach, I told you, has to be acidic. When you drink something very alkaline, the PH goes up.
Of course. But how does the stomach react? Releasing much more acid.
This is called the rebound effect. And it happens immediately. And it can hurt your stomach even more.
My recommendation is that you can take it whenever you have a little heartburn very sporadically. I do not recommend it to you. In general, what I do recommend is to see why you have stomach acidity, discontinue what you are eating or the situation that led you to it and you will improve in the meantime it could help you, but here comes the part most important acidic blood.
Many people say, I take baking soda to stabilize my pH, so that my blood is healthy and so that it works properly. This is partially true. Our blood remains at 7.
41 a little less. A little more. Because our kidney, our lung and very complex chemical processes take place in it.
In some situations the blood is put towards. I give you an example: Serious kidney problems. Patients who are about to perform their pH begins to drop and become acidic.
So what do nephrologists do? They give bicarbonate to raise the pH a little until they dialyze them and bring them to a normal pH. Another situation is patients who had super acute kidney failure and are recovering.
There they also give him bicarbonate. The dose is usually between 500 milligrams to one gram, that is, the tip of the teaspoon 2 to 3 times a day with various laboratory studies. The way I know it as a cardiologist, for example, the only practical indication I have for bicarbonate is when the patient is practically in cardiorespiratory arrest, that is, the heart has stopped, the blood becomes acidic and if we We suspect that it is due to kidney causes, we pass the bicarbonate while massaging to revive it.
Look under what conditions baking soda is used and why? Because it is dangerous to do so. Because it can really change the pH of the blood.
And what I am telling you is intravenous during cardiorespiratory arrest. So be careful with using baking soda to alkalize the blood. Do you want your blood to be good?
I have good habits. I'll tell you more about that. And here comes something.
Water with lemon. Many people drink water with lemon in the morning and I recommend it every morning. You know why?
During the night you sleep between 6 to 8 hours. You breathe, you lose water, you collect, you urinate, you lose water, the gastric juices move, you lose water. You say those six or eight hours that you didn't drink water, you are becoming dehydrated and that is why sometimes you wake up dizzy, sick, with low blood pressure.
Queer. So, what do the doctor recommend? Drnking water.
And why with lemon? Because by adding half a lemon or a lemon, you are taking 25% of the vitamin C you need throughout the day. You are improving your stomach to say breakfast foods.
But above all because you are hydrating yourself. But there are people who add baking soda. I told you lemon is acidic and baking soda is basic alkaline.
When you put both, you are reaching a middle point. That is, water with lemon is not convenient, if baking soda with water every day, right? And neither with lemon, except in special situations.
When you have heartburn on occasion, yes, to water with lemon, not to water with lemon, with baking soda. Many people use it for sports. It has been studied.
I'm talking about very high doses. Before sport. It might help some athletes.
Because? Because it combats acidity. What happen?
Because the cells start working very quickly and produce a lot of acids. And it has been studied in runners and others. What does the scientific evidence say?
Some studies show it could be helpful. Other studies show it may not be helpful. What do I think?
That there are better options. Number one before training coffee or green tea. That is, caffeine that enhances activity.
Strengthens muscles. Number two. Beet juice.
It makes blood vessels open, more blood reaches your muscles and you work better. And number three Creatine Load your muscles with creatine and they will have much more energy, resistance, recovery and even mood. Having these options, I don't think baking soda is the best option.
I recommend one of these three. For example, before training I use coffee half an hour before going to training. And finally, people who do not have any disease can take baking soda every day to improve their pH.
I know that you have heard that it cleanses the kidney, cleanses the liver, protects the brain, fights cancer. But none of this was proven. And baking soda really has dangers that I want to tell you about.
The problem for me lies in the fact that baking soda is available over the counter. I got it at a kiosk. I got it at a pharmacy.
You do not need anything. This is the formula. Sodium bicarbonate.
That is, na hco3. Baking soda is available everywhere, but it has many dangers. For example, for digestion.
I told you, change the pH of your stomach. Your stomach is not going to work well. You will digest food poorly and on top of that less mucus will be produced.
Your stomach is going to get sick faster. You may even be covering up illnesses. It may help you someday to drink a little alcohol and feel bad to get out of trouble, but not for long.
Decreases the absorption of calcium for your bones. Fundamental. Decreases potassium absorption.
I tell you more about selenium and zinc, essential for the heart, for nails, for hair and for much more. It increases the sodium because it is baking soda. Increasing sodium is dangerous for hypertensive people and in very, very rare cases it was seen that it can even predispose to brain bleeding, stroke or stroke.
So what is my recommendation or what is my opinion as an antacid? Eventually, I can hardly ever recommend it to you. If the blood is very acidic and you are in intensive care and I am reviving you and you have a kidney problem, I will probably use it.
I also know that nephrologists use it for dialysis or we use it before consulting the nephrologist. When the patient has a metabolic acidosis, it is called if it is a good medicine and number three to whiten the teeth could work and especially to clean stains from your house. For that it is very good to remember.
In nature there are excellent options, better than baking soda to take care of your health. I hope this talk has been useful to you. Informative.
Bye Bye.
