a massive winter storm is coming to the United States over the next few days and this is going to cause huge problems including tons of snowfall a major ice storm and as well as a threat for severe weather including damaging winds large hail and tornadoes tomorrow in addition to that we're also watching for the potential for another winter storm in areas like Texas perhaps even Louisiana and back into the Ohio Valley during the middle and end of next week so in today's forecast we're going to break down exactly what you need to know about the
weather that'll be impacting the United States over the next 7 days and it'll begin with what's happening across the country today and for the most part the east coast is looking pretty quiet the only thing that's been active over the last 24 hours has been our lake effect snow we also had a few snow squalls move through areas like Washington DC yesterday and we saw a rare phenomena called thunder snow and we might actually see some of that today tomorrow and perhaps even into Monday across parts of the central plains the Midwest in the Ohio
Valley once this winter storm really begins to ramp up back over in the Great Plains Things Are starting to get a little bit more active we have our big winter storm that is now Crossing into the Rocky Mountains and this is what's going to eventually transpire into a big winter storm we are expecting the greatest impacts tomorrow and as well as Monday but we will begin to see some light freezing rain and snow as we get closer to lunchtime today and even as we go into the afternoon hours so things are about to get very
active and very dangerous very quickly by the way if you see something in the background that's my cat cheese curd I did not realize that she was in the shot so just a heads up if you see something moving in the background that is again my cat now let's go into the weather alerts across the country we are beginning to see winter storm warnings and watches and effect for a large chunk of the United States winter storm warnings now in effect for Kansas Missouri Illinois and as well as Nebraska we have ice storm warnings also
in effect across parts of Southern uh Missouri in addition to that winter storm watches are in effect across the Ohio Valley and I wouldn't rule out that we get blizzard warnings issued back over near Kansas City later today as we are expecting a ton of snow in this area and the winds are going to be strong enough to the point where there could be blowing snow so blizzard warnings are definitely in play across parts of eastern Kansas and as well as Western Missouri now as we go throughout the day today a big winter storm is
going to be forming beginning with what's happening this morning notice again we do have some light freezing rain that is beginning to ramp up in parts of Kansas and as well as Missouri snow is also increasing across parts of the Northern Plains once we get closer to lunchtime that is when the freezing rain is going to become more scattered and even at times numerous across parts of Kansas and as well as Nebraska there will also be some sleep mixing in there eventually as we get closer to about 2 to 3:00 in the afternoon this will
really start to ramp up so again travel impacts are going to become a lot more significant later this afternoon especially the roads that are untreated due to moderate to heavy freezing rain that's going to be falling here across parts of Kansas and as well as Western Missouri and Southeast Nebraska eventually as we get closer to this evening this turns into a big winter storm with moisture coming out of the Gulf of Mexico big storm system moving over the Rocky Mountains this is all eventually going to collide into a massive storm here in the central plains
and we're going to be talking about moderate heavy snowfall in a large area tonight and even the potential for sleep and as well as freezing rain right there in the smack dab middle of that across parts of Kansas and as well as Missouri eventually as we go into early tomorrow morning this continues to track to the east heaviest of the snowfall is going to be tomorrow afternoon this is really going to get very heavy all across Kansas Missouri and Illinois near zero visibility will be possible especially if you're dealing with higher winds and then also
another thing we'll be watching for is the threat for severe weather down here across parts of the Mississippi Valley we actually have now an enhanced risk for severe weather which is a three out of five on the severe weather scale we'll talk more about the severe weather threat here in just a few minutes one thing that is crazy about this winter storm is by tomorrow afternoon this is going to be a very elongated area of snow that's falling all the way from Kansas into Virginia it is very stretched out and a lot of this will
be moderate to heavy so this is a very impressive M winter storm eventually as we get closer to tomorrow evening this continues to move Eastbound and we're going to continue to deal with heavy snowfall again across several states with freezing rain and sleep also being a possibility a little bit of lake effect snow by the way will continue further to the north now as we go late into Sunday night and early Monday morning this will continue to track to the east mostly just rain across the southeast United States heavy snowfall will be possible from Illinois
and Missouri all the way back to towards Washington DC and as well as New Jersey during early Monday morning and then eventually right around lunchtime the snow is going to continue we'll continue to see strong winds out of the North which will lift the rain and as well as snow line further to the north so overall there will be heavy snowfall I think around Washington DC during the morning and then eventually it moves a bit further off to the north before eventually maybe a little bit on the backs side of this could also produce some
snow but overall I think this will start to move offshore as we go into late Monday afternoon and evening and then eventually by Tuesday things are beginning to clear out for much of the United States now you're probably wondering how much snow we expecting out of this winter storm well the numbers actually continue to climb we are expecting a pretty significant winter storm here and there's a good shot that a large area will'll be dealing with between 8 to 14 Ines of snow anywhere from around Kansas City back through parts of Northern Missouri and also
back through parts of Indiana and even also into parts of Southern Central Illinois so a much larger area right now is going to be dealing with the potential for well over 8 Ines of snowfall and I think there will be some isolated locations especially in northeast Kansas that we actually could see over 16 in of snowfall so this is going to be again a big time winter storm keep in mind that this is through Sunday night we'll have a little backside of this winter storm that may bring accoding to a few inches of snow back
over around and just to the east of Joplin but for the most part those areas are dealing with the ice storm threat in terms of total snowfall accumulation across the Ohio Valley and as well as the Mid-Atlantic region right now we're expecting a swath again of between really 5 to 10 inches of snow at the bare minimum but I think this area will be picking up between 7 to 13 Ines of snow I think back over here in Southwestern oh Ohio could also be another spot where we see really significant accumulation again maybe an isolated
pocket somewhere between 14 to 16 in of snowfall areas like Dayton Ohio for example definitely keep a close eye there if you're back over near Columbus I think more than anything 3 to six inches of snow will be a possibility over there and then back over near Washington DC this is a place that a few people were asking me on my last video what are we really expecting here cuz a lot of news stations are saying 2 to 4 Ines of snow I think overall this is going to be a tricky forecast depending on how
far north the warm line essentially Rises meaning above freezing temperatures but I think in this area I would at least foresee 3 to 6 Ines of snow I think there's a chance though that we could even get more than that in the Washington DC area and maybe even into parts of Southern New Jersey now in terms of total ice accumulation we are expecting at least a tenth of an inch of ice in a really large area across much of Kansas Central Missouri and also back through southern Illinois and Indiana keep in mind by the way
that this only runs through Sunday nights so areas like Kentucky are going to see ice accumulation pretty much in the entire state you'll see that in just a moment but back over in this area again we are expecting the potential for some big travel impacts there will likely be several locations that are over a half an inch of ice accumulation especially in Southeast Missouri where we have ice storm warnings in effect so be prepared for the threat for some power adages due to this ice accumulation back over near St Louis I think we'll at least
have a glazing of ice if not we could even have upwards of a tenth of an inch of ice maybe even a little bit over that if you are just south there of the St Louis metro now in terms of areas like Kentucky Indiana back through the Ohio Valley in the midatlantic region again we are expecting the potential for ice accumulation across nearly all of Kentucky so there will be slick roadways especially if they are untreated so take it slow in the roadways West Virginia and as well as Virginia in general will be seeing the
potential for at least a hundredth of an inch of ice but there will likely be several areas over a tenth of an inch of ice back over in Tennessee it's a bit more of a question mark here but I think we'll have at least a few areas with a glazing of ice it should melt off somewhat quickly especially near the surface because we will have warmer temperatures that are going to be moving in behind this and then eventually it'll cool down again so I don't think we're going to see anything significant in Tennessee just be
mindful that there could be some untreated roadways that are slick if we do end up seeing some ice accumulation there on Sunday now there is also a threat of severe weather as we go into tomorrow we do have now an enhanced risk for severe weather across parts of Western Mississippi as well as Northeastern Louisiana a slight risk across much of Mississippi Arkansas and back through Louisiana and Texas as well marginal threat at goes as far north as even Tennessee which is another area again that we might see a little bit of ice in tomorrow night
so kind of crazy stuff here overall the main concern for tomorrow will be the threat for damaging wins but there is now a 5% tornado risk that is now in play for Mississippi Arkansas and as well as Louisiana and I do think we have a chance of seeing a 10% hatched region maybe near the Mississippi River I wouldn't rule out an isolated strong tornado or two tomorrow wouldn't even rule out a small scale tornado outbreak and by the way there is a relatively High chance that we will be live tomorrow covering both severe weather in
the winter storm so make sure you're subscribe to the channel and click the Bell icon so you're notified when we do go live and also please leave a comment down below if you like or dislike the graphics that I'm using in today's video These are completely different Graphics than I usually use so I'm definitely open to hearing about your feedback and also we've had a time stamp at the bottom right and also the legend at the bottom a lot of people have been asking for that so if you do like this sort of setup let
me know down below if you do or don't like it I am again really looking at comments in today's video about that sort of stuff now in terms of the setup for tomorrow severe weather event again we have a ripping low-level Jet and also even in the mid levels we're going to have a very strong southwesterly flow so this will promote the potential for a few maybe even several tornadoes in the Lower Mississippi Valley the biggest question mark right now is the warm sector it's not going to be very large especially compared to what we
had last Saturday if you remember our warm sector was huge we had a massive area where supercells were firing off in this particular setup it's not nearly as large in fact it's actually very narrow you'll notice the HR model is indicating pretty high tornado parameter values here across parts of the Mississippi River so there's definitely a chance that we get a 10% hatch tornado risk especially if we end up seeing some discreet supercells firing off in front of the line of thunderstorms that is going to be tailing right behind it so that's what we're really
watching for tomorrow if we don't have any discreet cells firing off this is going to be primarily a wind bag in addition to the threat for some qlcs tornadoes which are tornadoes embedded in that line of thunderstorms but by no means does this look like what we had last Saturday we had 82 tornadoes last Saturday I don't really foresee that happening with this particular event but it's definitely not super far off in terms of what we could see in terms of sever weather it's just a much smaller area that we're talking about a much smaller
warm sector so this is not going to be a multi-day event in fact it'll be mostly just the afternoon in early evening hours so in terms of the timing for this we'll be watching for some showers and some isolated thunderstorms during the Morning by around lunchtime the storms will start to fire off in Louisiana and East Texas this is the area that we're watching for that prefrontal convection any storms that fire off in Southeast Texas back into Louisiana will have the capability of producing maybe a couple of tornadoes and again maybe a strong tornado eventually
by 2 to 3:00 that line of thunderstorms is moving across Texas Louisiana and through the Mississippi River in addition to watching for again prefrontal convection eventually as we get closer to Sunset this continues to track to the East and eventually really after about 5 6:00 this is going to be mostly a linear line of thunderstorm so overall the strong tornado threat is going to be really confined I think between 12: and about 5:00 p.m. after that it's going to be predominantly just a line of thunderstorms and then eventually by 9: to 10:00 this is moving
into Alabama where it's going to start to weaken out into mostly just some showers and thunderstorms with very little severe weather remaining now Beyond this winter storm we could see another one during the middle and end of this upcoming week the GFS model and several other computer models in fact continue to hint at a pluma moisture coming out of the Pacific Ocean and if we end up seeing this we will have the potential for some sort of winter weather event down in the Southern Plains and then eventually this would track to the Northeast more than
likely going through areas like the Ohio Valley and as well as through the Northeast notice that this is right around Thursday and Friday of this upcoming week so only about five six seven days from now we could be talking about some snow falling in Texas Arkansas perhaps back through the Ohio Valley maybe even some rare snow falling back into parts of Georgia and Alabama as well I do want to point out that this is still several days away and there has been some inconsistencies in the computer model so definitely not for certain right now but
