in this video I'm going to give you the three storytelling techniques to move your stories from this to this let's go first take me start right into the action the biggest difference between great storytelles and beginner storytellers is that they bring us into the story from moment one they don't waste any time giving too much context they start their story right into the action you can do that by pretty much having your character do anything any type of action that can be walking biking reading you name it for example it's May 2019 dinuka steps into
his manager's office and hands in the letter or about two weeks back I was on my bike singing out loud on Dancing Queen by ABBA do you see do you see what I did there by starting your story with forward momentum with these actions you immediately bring in your listeners into the story all right on to the next one if you master that skill you'll be in that top one percent of great storytellers second take look show don't tell the best stories they're emotional everyone agrees on that but what most people do is when they
share a story they tell us how the character felt they use words like happy sad disappointed nervous well this is a great starting point we can do better than that let me give you two examples instead of saying my boss was very pleased say my boss woke up to me patted me on my back and looked at me with this big grin on his face or um instead of saying I was nervous say my legs started trembling my entire face turned red do you see the difference instead of telling the emotions you show the emotions
show how the body how the face changes when you experience that emotion it's a tiny modification but it makes your story immediately more visual alright on to the last and my absolute favorite storytelling technique third technique use dialogue the best stories transport the listeners into the story's World your listeners should see the story in their heads they should feel the emotions they should experience the story as if it was happening to them now one of the most powerful techniques to do that is to use dialogue or the exact words that were used in that crucial
moment of the story let me give you some examples instead of saying my mom was very disappointed say my mom looked at me and said Philip you're a disgrace or instead of instead of saying well my my client secured three millions of funding see my client called me and said crazy we did it we secured the three millions of funding thank you so much do you see the difference it's a small tweak in the wording but it makes a massive difference to how visual it is look these three story time techniques will help you spice
up your story big time but you also may want to make sure that you include a few of these unexpected or surprise moments in your story to know exactly when to include them you may want to check out this next video in that video I shared my three lessons that I got from reading these 34 books on storytelling see you there [Music]
