ID_BR PRESENTS THE WHITE PRIVILEGE GAME Skin tone or race? Race. I dont´understand much about race.
Race. At the end of the day, it defines me better. A lot of people say race doesn´t exist, but it makes people deal with the world in different ways.
My dad is black and my mom white. My mom was asked if I was adopted. When I was 6, a boy at school told me: "you can´t drink in my glass because you´re black".
How would you define white privilege? Not to suffer with racism or discrimination because you belong to white stereotypes. Once I went to the bakery not as well dressed as usual and the police arrested me.
White privilege is not having your capacities questionned. It has to be known and thought about so we can make changes. In the game, do you think you´ll be up front or in the back?
Way back. Not about the colour, but where you´re from, where you live… Where I´m from, having mom and dad still married is a privilege. I just would like to be the same.
13 PERSONS ANSWERED 50 QUESTIONS ABOUT RACIAL PRIVILEGE. If your family was there for you in your childhood and teenage years, step forward. If your had a good relationship with them, step forward.
If you earned pocket money during childhood or teenage years, step forward. STEP FORWARD OR BACKWARD DEPENDING ON YOUR ANSWER If your house was flooded or if you lost any belonging because you live in a risk area, step back. If you studied in a public school at any level, step back.
If you had trouble being accepted or making friends at school or getting a job because of your race, step back. If you´ve ever heard jokes because of your hair or skin tone, step back. If you ever wished to have another skin tone, step back.
I stepped more forward than I imagined. I felt equal as I saw people like me going forward, but when I went forward and saw others going backwards, it bothered me. I felt once again that, on racial issues, black people are always in the back.
Even in the game. What defines privilege is that the more you are privileged, less you undestand the meaning of privileges. This is the best game ever.
If it was a race, we would´nt start from the same place. How do you want it to be fair? Everyone has to struggle a lot to get anywhere, but the obstacles are bigger for some of us.
To question privileges of our society is a great way to understand that we must fight for equality. That´s why ID_BR exists. We created a campaign called “Yes to racial equality” To invite everyone, regardless the color of the skin, to join us and fight for racial equality, in terms of rights and opportunities.
You will see products with this symbol. Here you may see many skin tones represented. They represent our country´s racial and ethnical diversity.
You match here, for sure. Be a member, by the products and help us raise funds for other NGO´s that fight for this cause. Say yes to racial equality.
THIS VIDEO IS BASED UPON “THE WALK OS PRIVILEGES”, TO THINK ABOUT HOW PRIVILEGES AFFECT AND UNBALANCE SOCIETY.
