as unpleasant as it can feel a small personal failure is nothing in comparison to what happens when things go badly wrong on the industrial scale but equally these kinds of large scale failures are fascinating to watch and luckily for you I've collected the most remarkable recordings of this kind so we can learn from the mistakes from demolitions gone aride to the time New York City was overrun by green slime get ready to be left wide-eyed over some of the most catastrophic TRC failures ever caught on camera hole in the wall when failure comes knocking and
the cracks begin to show it can be pretty hard to keep things together case end [Applause] point all we There She Goes holy this footage was captured just at the moment this wall of a construction site in coquit Lim Canada collapsed the drama started in the early evening of November 29th 2023 when side workers noticed one of the Shoring walls that is a type of temporary wall that supports construction sites during excavations had started defend hail before they knew it the wall started spewing soil all over the excavated site the site itself was the beginnings
of a project to build a fancy 44 story apartment complex a far cry from the crazy scene that unfolded here thankfully all workers were well out of Harm's Way when the wall gave way and no damage was done to any surrounding underground infrastructure even so my stomach still flips watching the chaos unfold if this walk could talk it'd be saying demon demolitions they say that by failing to prepare you prepare to fail but if that preparation involves controlled demolitions even a well-prepared plan can topple over oh no oh no no don't call there no it's
not good oh no yeah see that bigger Tower crumbling at the end there that wasn't supposed to come down down oops when a demolition company was called into a power PL in Manchester Ohio the contract was to control blast Four Towers on site however after detonating the explosives one of the towers went rogue and smashed into the Big Boy by accident while the demolition of these towers definitely didn't go as planned the power plant site had been decommissioned and was set to be stripped to the ground eventually anyway I guess fate felt like helping to
cut down the TNT Bill plus four H one free while The Accidental destruction left behind by that topple Tower wasn't as catastrophic as it first appeared the same can't be said for our next demolition debacle [Music] [Music] yeah o yeah that building on the left definitely didn't request a new open plan hole in its wall this Silo at vorg Harbor in Denmark was being demolished to make way for new construction instead it ended up crushing a thankfully empty library and Cultural Center what's worse is the demolition had been planned for six whole months during which
Engineers were thought to have meticulously calculated just the right conditions to make sure the tower fell away from the center this would have included pinpointing the exact structural support points and detonating charges in a sequence that it ensure the correct angle of collapse however if any element of the timing charge placement or structural analysis is incorrect you get what we just saw well I guess the next time things don't go your way you can be thankful it's it's not quite as literal as this shattered they say you shouldn't throw stones in glass houses but I've
got another one for you don't hoist a giant glass panel to the top of a building without expecting something bad to happen plans for a successful day on this construction site in Bangalore India were quite literally shattered when workers ATT Ed to transfer this large piece of glass to a building top you can already see the pan swinging as it's lifted to the roof its Edge getting closer and closer towards the side of the crane until thankfully no one was hurt by the glass but I can only imagine how grueling that cleanup job must have
been talk about soul shattering oil slip there's no denying that oil is one of the most valuable Commodities on Earth but surprisingly the pipelines used to transport this precious product aren't always as robust as you'd imagine check this [Music] [Music] out this disastrous oil spill occurred in January 2022 along the 295 M ocp pipeline in Ecuador The Spill caused an estimated 252,000 gallons of petroleum to spew all over the surrounding hillsides not only that but a torrent of the spill ended up flowing into the coko river which is relied upon by countless species of wildlife
as well as 27,000 indigenous kitua people living in the Ecuadorian Amazon sadly this is just one of seven major spills from this particular pipeline since its construction in 2003 ocp the company who owns the pipeline claimed this 2022 breakage was caused by a rock slide in the area which they described as quote unquote unforeseeable with its length snaking past 94 fault lines six volcanoes and multiple waterways it seems unsurprising the pipe would be prone to all manner of natural hazards so to describe these spills as unforseeable seems a little well unlikely I mean come on
wrap that thing in a couple of of pillows and some Saran wrap at least concrete car when it comes to excuses we're all familiar with the classics my dog ate my homework my alarm didn't ring my phone died but I've got a new one for you my car was covered in liquid cement [Music] captured on dash cam just outside of Philadelphia This SUV got itself in an insane mess when it unexpectedly pulled out in front of a fully loaded cement mixer forcing the truck driver to slam the brakes a Cascade of concrete DS the entire
front half of the previously white SU V ouch worst of all you can see that the car's driver side window was cracked open so you can bet that a hefty slurry of viscous gray goop ended up drenching the driver too now thankfully both vehicle operators were totally unharmed by the encounter but there's more to the story much more apparently aate Trooper soon showed up and gave the woman behind the wheel of the cursed SUV one simple instruction to remain with her vehicle at the scene well spoiler alert she went rogue the woman managed to maneuver
her now filthy vehicle 2 miles down the street to Sunrise Car Wash where she trashed a self-service Bay by blasting the wet concrete all over the walls and floor that's when police arrived to snap her into handcuffs for a DUI turns out when the woman pulled out in front of the cement mixer she was leaving this sketchy looking bar where she'd presumably been knocking back a few too many daytime daquaries obviously this made her decision to hop back onto the road incredibly dangerous and also illegal but thankfully Karma was served without anyone getting hurt now
that's what I call concrete evidence of reckless driving toxic waste New York City may be known as the city that never sleeps but in November 2023 residents found themselves living in a waking nightmare as pedestrians made their way down Cedar Street in Manhattan's Financial District they started to notice an unidentified fluorescent green liquid oozing from the sewer grates well I know I'd be running for my life from what looks like radioactive toxic waste on closer inspection this fluid fail isn't all that it appears to be the spill's Fantastical Hue was likely a result of what's
known as die tracing a technique in which a brightly colored dye is used to track the movement of water inside Plumbing Systems to detect leaks while the reason behind the water's radioactive appearance was explainable its accidental leak into the street was more of a mystery a according to employees from the restaurant o'haras across the street the green gunge was the drgs of a test of the sprinkler system in the cloud one hotel but when interviewed the hotel manager said he was unaware of any sprinkler test going on in the building New York City's sewer system
is comprised of over 7,400 mil of sewage pipes funneling water all over the city so theoretically the fluorescent fluid could have come from anywhere however the color that comes from many Die tracing substances can quickly dissipate when diluted or combined with chlorine a chemical used to disinfect sewers so it's more likely the liquid arriv from somewhere nearby a certain Mutant Ninja Hideout perhaps while the mutant news of NYC may not have been as catastrophic as it first appeared the same cannot be said of a similar incident in Detroit in December 2019 motorist alongside Interstate 696
noticed a neon green sludge hulking out from the freeways walls soon thousands of Vehicles had piled up in gridlock after authorities closed off two lanes to investigate the strange substance test revealed the sludge to be groundwater contaminated with hexavalent chromium AKA chromium 6 a highly toxic chemical used in various manufacturing processes The Source turned out to be an abandoned electr plating Factory close to the freeway the old plant was shut down 3 years prior with its owner sent to federal prison after State Regulators discovered it was illegally f filled with dangerous and improperly stored chemicals
in the basement investigators discovered a hand duug 10x10 ft pit brimming with dangerous chemical waste the Environmental Protection Agency spent $1.5 million cleansing the site with the process taking more than a year to complete but it wasn't enough to contain the pollution it's thought that as the abandoned building fell into further disrepair rainwater made its way through the broken roof seeping into the Earth around the former pit and there it mixed with toxic residue left behind by the chromium 6 and other polluting chemicals which injected the water with its bright green appearance as more of
the tainted water accumulated it began pushing out from beneath the old factory out onto the freeway thankfully authorities were able to soak up the roadside ooze with absorbent chemicals though it's estimated that thousands of gallons of the stuff may have drained through storm sewers into the nearby Lake St Clair posing a severe threat to its biodiversity let's just hope the poor creatures living in the lake don't mutate into freakish fish Hulk hybrids and revolt against us in Revenge flame and flights picture this you board an airplane and get comfy in your seat the plane takes
off and all seems normal until until while cruising at many thousand ft you turn your head to take in some spectacular views but instead see this um I'm no engineer but I'm pretty sure plain engine plus fire and intense rattling equals intense Panic this terrifying moment was captured in February 2021 aboard United Airlines flight 328 from Denver to Honolulu it took Just 4 minutes after takeoff for the right-hand jet engine to fail when a worn out metal fan blade inside broke off and damaged surrounding Parts this caused the engine to break out in flam and
large pieces of debris to rain down across a mile long stretch of Broomfield Colorado thankfully the incident resulted in no injuries to either passengers on board or unwitting pedestrians below when the plane made a safe emergency landing back at Denver International Airport while twinjet airplanes like this are capable of remaining Airborne with only a single working engine this terrifying accident could have been avoided all together with more rigorous inspection procedures an issue which worryingly we seem to hear a lot about out these days all I know is you can bet I'll be paying extra close
attention to pre-flight safety demonstrations from now on bridge too far they say you should never burn your Bridges but for one overpass in eastern Alabama Mother Nature had something a little wetter in [Music] mind in March 2023 miles Welch was driving around Lafayette at after a series of flash floods in the area when he stumbled across this Cliff hanging moment at chattah hospy Creek after stepping out of the car for a closer look miles was shocked to find the ground was starting to crack right in front of him before the Bridge's supports buckled into the
overflowing Waterway thankfully miles was safely out of Harm's Way but it was clear he and his car wouldn't be Crossing that bridge Mother Nature really be saying you shall not pass but in all seriousness Bridge failures can cause a lot more damage one of the most severe was the collapse of the I35 West Mississippi River Bridge in August 2007 when its Central span suddenly gave way in the middle of rush hour traffic on the day of the collapse there were 300 tons worth of construction materials and Equipment being stored on the bridge adding extra weight
to the already loaded Crossing traffic investigations after the collapse revealed the bridge had some significant design flaws in its framework with its gusset plates these things having been too weak to support the extra heavy loads in September 2018 the bridge was replaced with the newly named St Anthony Falls bridge complete with a memorial commemorating the previous Bridge's collapse as well as the 13 lives lost and 145 injured in the event slimed police are used to dealing with a whole host of slippery characters but in July 2017 Oregon State Troopers came face to face with their
slimiest yet with extremely messy consequences Yep this truck Spilled Out a nightmare scene of eel likee life form squirming in a bucket Lo of slime while it might look like a spill from some kind of Halloween prop store the little wers you can hopefully see among the three pixels this video was filmed in then are actually alive those love crafty and Abominations are little Marine scavengers known as hagfish and all that slime is by their design a hag fish's slime is its ultimate secret weapon against the toothy bottom feeding Predators it faces in the ocean
when a hagfish feels threatened it secretes a goop made of a protein called mucin along with fiber-like strands that combine to form an elastic slimy mesh this slime reacts with seawater expanding rapidly to clog the mouth or gills of attacker it turned out this vehicle was on its way to ship 13 crates of hack fish to South Korea where they're considered a delicacy apparently the truck driver got a little overzealous with the brakes after failing to stop as he approached Road works the force of which sent the hack fish hurling out the crates as for
the cleanup the road was closed for several hours while the depot Bay Fire Department hosed down the 7500 lbs of slime on this hagfish Highway sadly most of the hagfish didn't make it though so considering where they were headed perhaps this slip of Fate was preferable super leak everyone appreciates a bargain but what I'm about to show you is a hard lesson in why you should never give in to the Temptation for cheap labor and it's like super hot too in 2017 a mother and her two children found themselves in a rather soggy State of
Affairs when a so-called plumber showed up to their apartment to fix a leak they'd reported to the land lady The Not So handyman named Wimer failed in an absolutely catastrophic manner proceeding to accidentally flood the entire place apparently rather than paying the $150 per 30 minutes fee to shut off the apartment's complex's water supply that sheepgate land lady instructed Wilmer to work his magic with the water still on this left the plumbers accomplice desperately vacuuming excess liquor from the now water logged carpets while Wilmer struggled on it's unclear whether the land lady ultimately agreed to
pay to shut off the water or whether Wilmer was possessed by the plumbing gods and managed to fix the leak but either way the damage had been done in the apartment and another adjoining apartment ended up with major water damage as a result the land lady was forced to pay thousands of dollars worth worth of repairs for the consequences of her cheapness I guess it's a mercy the judge presiding over the court case wasn't Cut From the Same Cloth of incompetence as Wilmer whose aspirations to become a Bonafide plumber can only be described as well
a pip Dream Street splits as we've already seen you can't always trust the ground beneath your feet but this next example is arguably the most proof so far [Music] in November 2023 this kmic crack split the Icelandic community of gvic apart after a slew of volcanic activity in the area astoundingly officials estimated that around 900 earthquakes hit the south of the country in one day alone resulting in multiple roads cracking under the rising pressure of deep underground magma unfortunately these kinds of incidents show no signs of stopping on the highly volcanic lands of Iceland similarly
scary scenes of Roads giving way to the Earth have also been seen on the Canadian island of New Foundland though this one's a little soggier [Music] this road turned River was the result of Hurricane Earl a large Category 2 hurricane that swept through New Foundland in September 2022 apparently the destruction of a nearby water man courtesy of Earl's 85 mph winds caused water to flood the street rushes of flood water like this can exert a lot of pressure above and below Road surfaces combine that with erosion from The Heavy Rain brought in by Hurricane Earl
washing away the gravel air below the tarmac and you get a hollow crumbled road that calls for a canoe rather than a car damn crisis Rising 770 ft High the Oroville Dam in California holds back a reservoir filled with 1.1 trillion gallons of water supplying farms in cities across the state since 1968 but in February 2017 this aquatic barricade became the sight of disaster it had been one of the wetest winters in Northern California's history in the unprecedent ented rainfall had filled the Orville Reservoir to 150% its usual capacity to relieve some of the pressure
Dam operators began releasing water down the main Spillway but it soon became apparent something was very wrong spillways are slid likee structures that are used to carry flood water away from the overflowing Reservoir in a safe and controlled way but in this case Dam operators realized an enormous crater had appeared around halfway down the spillway where the concrete lining had eroded this caused some of the water headed down it to Veer off course underneath creating a separate uncontrolled stream of Rushing Water forcing authorities to shut off the main Spillway however water levels in the Oroville
Reservoir were still rising and it had to go somewhere so for the first time in the Dam's 50-year history water began pouring over the top of the Dam's walls into an emergency Spillway to the left of the main one this created a new and even more worrisome dilemma Dam operators soon realized the water flowing into the emergency Spillway had started eating away at the ground creating Hollow spaces under the Earth if the ground gave way the 30 foot high barrier would fail sending billions of gallons of water bursting out of the reservoir towards multiple towns
Downstream in light of the imminent danger authorities ordered the evacuation of almost 200,000 people living in the area after the evacuation Emergency Services moved in for a closer look and concluded that despite the GI chasm in the main Spillway it would be possible to flush enough water through to drain the reservoir eventually the reservoir levels fell enough to stop water rushing into the emergency Spillway and people were allowed to return home more than a thousand workers put over 2 million hours into cleaning up the debris left behind by the mass spill as well as reconstructing
the damaged parts of the dam in 2018 they also installed a concrete butus to fortify the emergency Spillway as well as an underground wall fall on the hillside to prevent uphill erosion if the emergency Spillway is ever used again while the Oroville Dam didn't fail completely it came way too close for comfort and what locals have probably come to remember is a damn near Miss sunk sedan we all know the feeling of wanting the ground to swallow us up in moments of embarrassment but the next time you wish for such a thing why not stop
and consider the reality thankfully no one was in this parked car when this occurred but it's still horrifying count oh my God nobody should get close to it there it goes M oh my god oh this stomach dropping moment was captured on a usually quiet Suburban Street in Dale City Virginia while the exact cause of the sinkhole was unclear local officials believe its appearance was related to a series of recent thunderstorms sweeping through the area while Thunder itself of course doesn't cause sink holes The Heavy Rain that often accompanies it can play a significant role
sink holes are usually formed when soluble Bedrock like limestone is dissolved by groundwater which creates underground cavities that collapse under the weight from above intense rainfall brought in by storms can speed up this kind of erosion and in this case this little red car became prey mercifully without its owners inside fail whale picture this the clock has just struck midnight in a town just outside Roder Dam but unbeknownst to Residents wandering down by an elevated set of train tracks they were about to witness something unbelievable along the tracks over 30 ft in the air a
train was perched to top a giant sculpture of a whale tail while you might be wondering if this is some kind of Modern Art Marvel in fact this was the result of a train failure of Epic Proportions rest assured typically trains on this line are supposed to remain on the tracks apparently this runaway train had managed to steamroll right through the pair of stop locks designed to prevent trains from going off the edge of the water locked platform at the end of rotterdam's metro line thankfully the driver who had approached tooo fast after seemingly losing
control of the train was able to free himself without injury and there were no other passengers on board the train at the time and there's one final twist to this tail it turned out the tail sculpture had actually prevented the train from plummeting into the waters below which would have been a much more dangerous outcome for the driver still it's impossible to resist and as the British say you can't park D mate abandoned ship built in Japan in 1993 the 654 ft long MV cougar Ace was one of the biggest car carriers ever constructed with
a capacity of more than 5,000 vehicles in July 2006 the cougar Ace was carrying 4700 new Mazdas from Japan to North America but as it approached Alaska disaster struck the cougar Ace was carrying out a routine drainage of water from its ballast tanks when the ship lost ability in the choppy Waters leading it to slump at a seriously precarious angle thankfully all 23 crew members were safely rescued from the slanting ship but rectifying the 55328 gross ton Car- loaded boat posed a much bigger challenge the nearly capsized ship drifted perilously in Open Water for 5
days before salvagers were able to tow it to Dutch Harbor in Alaska once there and armed with a plan to use powerful pumps to strategically redistribute the water within the ship's Hull and ballast tanks the Salvage team gradually restored equilibrium after several days of Relentless effort and The Tragically lost life of one rescuer the MV cougar Ace was finally brought back to a safe upright position averting potential catastrophe as for the cars on board around a th000 came away from the incident showroom ready but the same can't be said for cars aboard another ship in
2016 in February 2016 the Baltimore zeer caught a light while transporting a cargo of electric vehicles from New York to Haiti investigators concluded the fire was caused by a short circuit in one of the cars with the incident resulting in a $1.3 million insurance payout oof and I thought the worst thing that could happen to a ship was sinking chemical blast on August 10th 2020 commuters in the Russian city of vulgarr were shocked to their core when this enormous fireball shot into the sky above them yeah what that Earth shaking Fireball had come from a
gas station just off the highway where initial Flames were likely sparked by a discharge of static electricity while fuel was being pumped from a tanker to an underground storage chamber thankfully at the first signs of fire the gas station was swiftly evacuated but it was too late to stop the explosion the shake of the blast could reportedly be felt over a mile away with its shock wave sweeping nearer onlookers off their feet and it took 70 firefighters as well as a firefighting robot like this one to quill The Blaze thanks to the rapid evacuation though
there were no fatalities many liken the explosion to the Beirut blast that took place just a few days before on August 4th 2020 around 1,500 mil away in Beirut an unfathomable explosion since shock waves across the city the incident is known today as one of of the biggest non-nuclear explosions in history leaving behind a 460t wide crater later investigations revealed the blast was caused by The Accidental detonation of 2,750 tons of an improperly stored chemical called ammonium nitrate shockingly the ammonium nitrate was reportedly seized from a cargo ship arriving at the Port of Beirut all
the way back in September 2013 after confiscating the dangerous chemical the material was left stored in a warehouse at the port for years while officials engaged in illegal deadlock over its ownership repeated warnings were ignored by the authorities over the dangers posed by these chemicals when stored long term as they tend to Decay absorbing moisture infusing into a much more explosive form all it takes then is a small fire to set it off and in beirut's case welding work being carried out in the warehouse proved the final Catalyst unfortunately the failure to come to a
decision resulted in the Fatal blast and what was easily the biggest catastrophic failure of the last decade what's the most catastrophic event you've ever been unlucky enough to witness let me know in the comments below and as always thanks for watching [Music]
