That was what was left of the water, nothing! There are many floating houses that are out of the water. I look at how deep the Amazon river is.
I'm already telling you that there are isolated communities, that the canoe only goes to a certain point and with great difficulty. My God, I think the engine can start working here. Oh my God, something screwed me up.
Hi everyone, welcome to another video on the channel. Many people talk about the extreme drought of the rivers here in the Amazon. Today we are going to make a video about the drought, and how it affects people who live in riverside communities.
We are at Davi's marina, this is where we keep our canoe when we are in Manaus. I want to show you our journey until we got home, and the difficulties we faced with the river drying up. This will be today's video, already like the video to help me, now let's start the video.
Here is the front of Davi's Marina, when the river is full the water reaches where these two red motorbikes are. That was what was left of the water, nothing. Cars are staying where all the water used to be.
All of this is underwater. They've already made this handrail so that when it's dry, people will have support to get down. Where there is this floating thing that is painted red and white, it is the place where people take boats to go to the communities.
When the river dries up there's always a lot of rubbish, pet bottles, beer cans. . .
that sort of thing! And these wooden bridges were made so people didn't have to step in the mud, the river dries out but there's always a lot of mud. The water reaches the surrounding trees, so you can already see how dry the river is.
They made two bridges, the one I showed you at the beginning and this other one. These bridges were made for people to pass over, there is always still water and under that water there is only mud. There are lots and lots of floating houses that are out of the water.
Many of these floating houses are not just houses, they are businesses such as grocery stores, butchers and restaurants. The dryness of the river also affects this commercial part, as there is only mud where these floating houses are, people avoid going there to avoid getting stuck in the mud. Stefany: This is the second bridge, here is a floating/market that is completely out of the water.
To get to where our canoe is, we had to cross two bridges, and go behind the floating houses that are out of the water. We got close to where our canoe is, we walked 10 minutes until we got here. There is a stream here, this was what was left of the river at that point.
Here there is a boat and a speedboat out of the water. Here is another bridge. Look what I told you about the trash, look at what it's like here, look at the trash.
If everyone took care of their trash, the river wouldn't be like this. This is the same place where the rubbish was, I returned to Manaus three days later, when I came back everything was already clean, I don't know if it was Manaus city hall who cleaned it or the residents themselves. Mom is waiting for us to go home.
This is our canoe, now let's board to go home. You will accompany us until we get home. Let's go.
Time to board! With great difficulty we managed to leave Marina do Davi. Even with all these difficulties, this is the best place to sail, it is where there is more water in the river.
From now on the situation will become critical. We stopped at a floating gas station to fill up. This station is where most vessels refuel.
Stefany; The water is a bit muddy, it looks like water from the Solimões River. When the black river is very dry, its water becomes muddy. It's exactly 10:30 and when the river is full it usually takes us 40 minutes to get home.
Stefany: Now that the river is dry it will take us a while to get home. So let's time it and see how much time we spend. The sun was very hot so we put on sunscreen, when we left Manaus my daughter Ágata wasn't feeling well, she had a headache and a sore throat, so I bought this bigger hat so she could be more protected from the sun.
As my mother opened the umbrella I took the hat, Stephanie also tried to put on a hat, it didn't work out very well, it didn't fit on her head because her hair was so thick, it actually looked funny. People stick tree branches into the river to mark the deepest spot, so they are less at risk of running aground. From the branches you can get an idea of how dry the river is.
Remembering that all of this is still close to Manaus. Look at this stretch of beach that appeared in the middle of the black river, all you see is sand and it was all covered by the river. This is where the boats can go without running aground.
From now on, people have to take smaller canoes, like the one we are in, and go to their communities. I can tell you that there is an isolated community, that the canoe goes to a certain point and from that point onwards people have to walk, generally people who live in riverside communities close to Manaus go to Manaus once a month to do their purchases like rice, sugar. Now imagine having to leave and enter the community with the river in these conditions, this community that I'm showing you is the first community and it also has access by road, now imagine our community which is the last and only way to get there and leaving the community is through the river.
Remember that I told you at the beginning of the video that my daughter Ágata wasn't feeling very well, here she had a fever of 39º and we medicated her, even so we were worried because the canoe was starting to run aground. My stepfather turned off the engine, the canoe is stranded, look at the depth of the river. let's get off the ground now.
It's time to push the canoe girls, Ágata has a fever and wants to push the canoe. I'm already telling you the first time we've run aground, that one over there has run aground too, they're in the same situation as us. With a lot of effort we managed to get unstuck.
It is very common to see boats out of water, people look like this and must think that there is a lot of water but the maximum depth in this place is 50 cm, so it is very common to see rafts and even canoinhas like ours stranded. My stepfather went out to push because he ran aground once again. It's the third time we've run aground, third time now.
Here it's just mud and sand! It's very stranded. I'm exerting my maximum strength, You're also heavy.
Daughter, if you break this oar we are lost. Will Luiz push, push, push, is he pushing? The people back there have already run aground too.
The oar is sinking into the mud. Already Luiz? I've already figured out my part!
My God, have you ever wondered if we have to walk to the community? Give us a ride, take us in tow. I think I'll get down here safely, I have to push.
I see a stingray, we have to be careful. Give me the paddle. I go out to push the canoe, look at how deep the river is, look at my foot.
The canoe is running aground. There are a lot of stingrays here and I'm scared of getting stung. Oh, I'm so scared, mom, look, if the stingray hurts me, you're going to take me to the hospital urgently.
Are you moving out of place? oh Jesus Let's throw Stefany in the water to reduce the weight. Oh.
. . My God, I think it was just a leaf, I'm really scared of stingrays.
God forbid I get stung by a stingray. Mom and the girls go to another canoe belonging to a colleague, to lighten the weight of our canoe, which is very heavy. Take them and we can agree on the cost of the ticket in the community.
Ágata still has a fever. Bye, see you there bye. Let's follow their path Sit in front.
That's it, so we'll share the weight well! The neighbor is already up front, takes the oar and pushes the canoe. That's it, that's it, that's almost done, that's it, go ahead, very good.
Okay, now just start the engine and go. As I told you, our community, the Agrovila community is the last community. So we have to face all these obstacles until we get home, as you can see there are many sandbanks, there are areas that are just mud and leaves and if already If all of this wasn't enough, we have to be very careful with stingrays, stingrays hurt a lot.
I never got it but my mom did and she said the pain was unbearable. Again, we're going to have to go down to push. Look at the depth of the river, you can see the bottom.
As the only way to enter and leave the community is through the river, at this time of year it is very difficult for riverside residents who live in the Agrovila community and in other communities as well. But as the Agrovila community is the last one, it is much more difficult to getting help here, now imagine if a person gets sick, or even an elderly person needs to go to Manaus urgently, it is very difficult to leave the community with the river in these conditions My God, my God. This time I almost ended up on top of Stefany, wow, how scary.
I'm going to stretch my legs. Get out there quickly, Stefany. Stefany: I really want to take a shower here.
Here we are halfway, more or less halfway. When it's dry the landscape is unrecognizable, everything is underwater, who would have thought we were in the middle of the river. I think the microphone hit my shirt.
Let's go that way Let's push more. Let's walk while he goes through this part. Alone he is running aground.
They run aground once again, now they run aground in a group with another canoe, I can't take it anymore. Here I was already exhausted, the sun was very hot and I had a lot of headache, even so I always tried to remain optimistic and with a smile on my face. In this part we are going through it is just rocks, whenever the river dries up these rocks appear and in this area we have to be very careful because any stronger blow to the aluminum boat will cause it to puncture.
For there, it's better to push this part here, there are a lot of stones. Wait a minute Luiz, let go of the engine. .
. You can go now. ahem It's good now.
Come Stefany Be careful not to fall Stefany: These stones are very smooth. After we passed Pedras we were closer to home. This place you are seeing is Igarapé do Caniço, I myself have fished in this place and look at the state it is in, there is no water left.
Here we are passing by the front of the community, as you can see there are some rocks and sand. This floating thing is completely out of the water as you can see, this is the image from above from the front of the community, this was what was left of the river, it is now possible to cross on one side by walking. I've already made other videos here on the channel showing the drought but last year, I also made a video showing the flood this year.
I will leave all the videos linked in the video description for you to compare one with the other. We have just arrived in front of the community, as you can see it is very dry. .
. surprising. Now let's carry the things we brought from Manaus, such as animal food and the month's ranch.
Look, we're far from home, I think it's about 300 meters to get home. So folks, when the river is full it gets easier because the boat is closer to home. When we were carrying things home it started to rain, so we had to rush and there wasn't time to film the entire part where we were carrying things, we had to make two trips to be able to get all the things from the Canoe.
At the very end, when we were finishing loading things, I got a little rain but thank God we managed to carry everything without getting anything wet. As you saw there was a lot of running aground to get here, I think we ran aground but 7 times Stefany: It was 10 times, we didn't record everything, right. Yes.
Ágata had a fever, she's better now, thank God. Many people who live here go to Manaus to buy their ranch of the month and feed for their animals, the people who go always come back with weight and have to go all the way to get home. We left Marina do Davi at 10:30am and arrived in front of the community at 12:30pm This was today's video, I hope you enjoyed following our journey from Manaus to here during the dry season.
Don't forget to like, comment, share and if you're new here don't forget to subscribe Kisses and see you in the next video. Oh wait, Stefany comes to say goodbye to you. Stefany: Well guys, that was the video, it's difficult to get here during the dry season, we ran aground several times, but thank God we managed to get there safely, that's it.
A kiss and until next time.
