The islands are especially popular with people looking for an exotic and adventurous vacation, but there may be a great threat behind their beauty. Exploring these islands is often not only a bad idea, but also the last idea you can have. Technically, you can be in the wrong place at the wrong time anywhere.
But some places pose a much greater risk than others. Certain islands are famous for their deadly animals or dangerous viruses. I'm Donato de Paula, narrator of Mistérios do Mundo, and here are the most dangerous islands in the world that you would never dare set foot on.
If you like this video, don't forget to like, subscribe to the Mistérios do Mundo channel and turn on notifications. Gruinard Island If you wash off the coast of the Scottish island of Gruenard, you could be about to die terribly. Or you can spend some time with some friendly sheep.
Gruenard Island is a small patch of green inhabited by test sheep, which are there so scientists can determine whether or not they are victims of a particularly nasty type of anthrax. During World War II, the British government bombed flocks of sheep on the island with bombs containing 14578, a virulent type of anthrax. They were testing the disease for use in wartime.
By carrying out these tests, they completely infected the island and had to abandon it. Signs were posted in an attempt to stop people from disembarking there. The process of cleaning up the island began in 1986, and the site was declared safe in 1990.
There have been no cases of anthrax in sheep since 2007. Still, there are probably better places to visit in Scotland. Doll Island The chances of you being shipwrecked in the channels of Xochimilco, south of Mexico City, are slim.
But anything can happen. You look up and notice that there are dolls everywhere. Why are they there?
Well, the sad story is that the island's caretaker, Dom Julian Santana Barreira, found a little girl drowned, floating in the channel. He was unable to save her and was deeply upset. To honor her, he hung a doll he found floating nearby from a tree.
Local legend says that more and more dolls appeared floating, and the man hung them to appease the girl's spirit, which he believed was haunting him. To make everything even more sinister, half a century later, Barreira was found drowned in the same place he found the girl. Bikini Atoll Bikini Atoll is paradisiacal, with its white sands, palm trees and blue waters.
But the Marshall Islands and Bikini Atoll in particular were the site of nuclear tests carried out by the United States government from 1946 to 1958. Residents were transferred, against their own choice, to nearby Kili Island. The United States tested 23 nuclear weapons on the atoll, including the Castle Bravo hydrogen bomb, a thousand times more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima in World War II.
Ilha da Queimada Grande For many people, the worst place to shipwreck would be an island full of poisonous snakes. Queimada Grande Island, off the coast of São Paulo, Brazil, is home to thousands of extremely venomous vipers, capable of killing a human in about an hour if an antidote is not administered quickly. The Brazilian government prohibits visiting the island without special authorizations, in addition to the presence of a doctor.
We have already made a video about this island here at Mistérios do Mundo, take the opportunity to watch it afterwards. Plum Island The United States government's Center for Research on Animal Diseases is located on this island, which is in Suffolk County, New York. The island has been the subject of several conspiracy theories since its creation in the Cold War.
Currently, the place is full of secrets, foot-and-mouth disease and things we can't even imagine. North Sentinel Island As you row your small boat over the crystal blue waters of Bay of Bengal, you see a mangrove-encrusted island with white sands. Suddenly, you hear a voice, and when you look at whoever is speaking, you die.
The people of North Sentinel Island are one of the last societies on Earth that have no contact with the outside world, and they prevent anyone from entering the island. They have no visitors and no contact with modern technology . The locals are highly xenophobic and resist virtually all attempts at contact, often shooting arrows at boats and helicopters that come too close to the island.
The Indian government decided to leave them alone and imposed a 5-kilometer limit around their island so that no one can access it. Miyakejima If you are shipwrecked on this Japanese island, you better have a gas mask. The small town of Miyakejima is located below the active volcano, which constantly releases clouds of sulfuric gases.
It is illegal not to have a gas mask with you at all times in the city. Residents put them up when the air quality becomes too toxic. And even with gas masks on, the air sometimes gets so bad that island residents have to be evacuated.
Which of these islands did you find the most dangerous? Tell us in the comments! Until next time!
