i don't have to tell you things are bad everybody knows things are bad it's a depression everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job the dollar buys a nickel's worth banks are going bust shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter punks are running wild in the street and there's nobody anywhere seems to know what to do and there's no end to it we know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat we sit watching our tvs while some local newscaster tells us that today we had 15 homicides and
63 violent crimes as if that's the way it's supposed to be we know things are bad worse than bad they're crazy it's like everything everywhere is going crazy so we don't go out anymore we sit in the house and slowly the world we're living in is getting smaller and all we say is please at least leave us alone in our living rooms let me have my toaster and my tv and my steel belted radials and i won't say anything just leave us alone well i'm not gonna leave you alone i want you to get mad
i don't want you to protest i don't want you to ride i don't want you to write to your congressman because i wouldn't know what to tell you to write i don't know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the russians and the crime in the street all i know is that first you've got to get mad you've got to say i'm a human being god damn it my life has value so i want you to get up now i want all of you to get up out of your chairs i want
you to get up right now and go to the window open it and stick your head out and yell i'm as mad as hell and i'm not gonna take this anymore i want you to get up right now get up go to your windows open them and stick your head out and yell i'm as mad as hell and i'm not going to take this anymore things have got to change how many stations does this go what did it do i know it goes to louisville in atlanta we're not going to take this anymore then we'll
figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil get up out of crisis chairs open the window stick your head out and yell and say i miss mine as hell and i'm not gonna take this anymore i know what you're thinking punk you're thinking that he fires six shots or only five now to tell you the truth i forgot myself and all this excitement but being this is a 44 magnum the most powerful handgun in the world and will blow your head clean off you've got to ask yourself question do
i feel lucky well do you punk all right it's three in the morning you know that i uh i went up to your house dad they told me he was here it's at 3am kid is that adrian she's a good girl me you know i'm sorry for body nothing i can do with it i accept it i like to tell you something once and then i ain't going to say it again but rocky got a a another shot it's a second shot at the uh i don't know the biggest title in the world and you're
going to be swapping punches with the most dangerous fighter in the world and just in case you know your brain ain't working simply all this happens pretty soon and you ain't ready you're nowhere near you you're in shape so i say you know for god's sake why don't you stand up and fight this guy hard like you've done before that was beautiful [Music] but don't lay down in front of them like this like i don't know some kind of mongrel or something cause he's gonna kick your face in pieces that's right this guy just don't
want to win you know he wants to bury it he wants to humiliate her he wants to prove to the whole world it was nothing but some kind of a freak the first time out yet he said you are one time lucky bum well now i don't i don't want to get mad in a biblical place like this but i think you're a hell of a lot more than that kid a hell of a lot but now wait a minute if you want to blow it if you want to blow this thing uh damn it
i'm gonna blow it with you do you want to stay here i'll stay with you i'll stay with you i stand free i gotta lose i guess this is just another lost cause mr payne all you people don't know about lost causes mr payne does he said once they were the only causes worth fighting for and he fought for them once for the only reason any man ever fights for them because of just one plain simple rule love thy neighbor and in this world today full of hatred a man who knows that one rule has
a great trust you know that rule mr payne and i loved you for just as my father did and you know that you fight for the lost causes harder than for any others yes you even die for them a man we both know mr bay you think i'm licked [Applause] you all think i'm lit well i'm not licked and i'm gonna stay right here and fight for this lost cause even if this room gets filled with lies like these [Applause] and the tailors and all their armies come marching into this place somebody will listen to
me [Applause] ray people will come ray they come to iowa for reasons they can't even fathom they turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it they'll arrive at your door as innocent as children longing for the past of course we won't mind if you look around you'll say it's only twenty dollars per person they'll pass over the money without even thinking about it but it's money they have and peace they like ray just sign the papers and they'll walk out to the bleachers [Music] sit in shirt sleeves on a perfect afternoon
find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the base lines so they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes and they watched the game it'll be as if they've dipped themselves in magic waters the memories will be so thick that i could brush them away from their faces ray when the bank opens in the morning they'll foreclose people will come ray you're broke ray you sell now or you lose everything the one constant through all the years ray has been baseball america has ruled by like an army of steamrollers it's been erased
like a blackboard rebuilt and erased again but baseball has marked the time this field this game is a part of our past ray it reminds us of all that once was good and it could be again oh people will come ray people will most definitely come [Music] from the oldest of times people danced for a number of reasons they danced in prayer or so that their crops would be plentiful or so their hunt would be good and they danced to stay physically fit and show their community spirit and they danced to celebrate and that that
is the dancing that we're talking about aren't we told and in psalm 149 praise you the lord sing unto the lord a new song let them praise his name in the dance amen amen it was king david king david who we read about in in samuel and and and what did david do what did david do what did david do david danced before the lord with all his might leaping leaping and dancing before the lord leaping and dancing in ecclesiastes assures us that there is a time to every purpose under heaven a time to laugh
[Music] and a time to weep [Music] a time to mourn and there is a time to dance [Music] [Music] and there was a time for this lob not anymore see this is our time to dance it is our way of of celebrating life that's the way it was in the beginning it's the way it's always been that's the way it should be now [Music] our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure it is our light not our darkness that most frightens us you're playing small
does not serve the world there is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you we were all meant to shine as children do it's not just in some of us it's in everyone and as we let our own light shine we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same as we are liberated from our own fear our presence automatically liberates others sir i just want to say thank you you saved my life so what's this the taste is choice moment between guys this is really nice you got a thing
for swans is this like a fetish it's something like maybe we need to devote some time to thought about what you said to me the other day about my painting stood up half the night thinking about it something occurred to me i fell into a deep peaceful sleep and i haven't thought about you since you know what occurred to me oh you're just a kid you don't have the faintest idea of what you're talking about why thank you it's all right you've never been out of boston [Music] nope so if i asked you about art
you'd probably give me the skinny on every art book ever written michelangelo know a lot about him life's work political aspirations him and the pope sexual orientation the whole works right i bet you can't tell me what it smells like in the sistine chapel you've never actually stood there and looked up at that beautiful ceiling seen that if i ask you about women probably give me a syllabus are your personal favorites you may have even been laid a few times but you can't tell me what it feels like to wake up next to a woman
and feel truly happy you're a tough kid i ask you about why you probably uh throw shakespeare at me right once more into the breach dear friends but you've never been near one you've never held your best friend's head in your lap and watch him gasp his last breath looking to you for help i ask you about love probably quote me a sonnet but you've never looked at a woman and been totally vulnerable known someone that could level you with her eyes feeling like god put an angel on earth just for you i could rescue
you from the depths of hell and you wouldn't know what it's like to be her angel to have that love for her be there forever through anything through cancer you would know about sleeping sitting up in a hospital room for two months holding her hand because the doctors could see in your eyes that the terms visiting hours don't apply to you you don't know about real loss because that only occurs when you love something more than you love yourself i doubt you've ever dared to love anybody that much [Music] i look at you i don't
see an intelligent confident man i see a cocky scared shitless kid but you're a genius well no one denies that no one could possibly understand the depths of you but you presume to know everything about me because you saw a painting of mine you ripped my [ __ ] life apart you're an orphan right you think i know the first thing about how hard your life has been how you feel who you are because i read all of a twist does that encapsulate you personally i don't give a [ __ ] about all that because
you know what i can't learn anything from you i can't read in some [ __ ] book unless you want to talk about you who you are and i'm fascinated i'm in but you don't want to do that do your sport you're terrified of what you might say your move chief [Music] i'm sorry but i don't want to be an emperor that's not my business i don't want to rule or conquer anyone i should like to help everyone if possible jew gentile black man white we all want to help one another human beings are like
that we want to live by each other's happiness not by each other's misery we don't want to hate and despise one another in this world there's room for everyone and the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone the way of life can be free and beautiful but we have lost the way greed has poisoned men's souls has barricaded the world with hate has goose stepped us into misery and bloodshed we have developed speed but we have shut ourselves in machinery that gives abundance has left us in want our knowledge has made us cynical
our cleverness hard and unkind we think too much and feel too little more the machinery we need humanity more than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness without these qualities life will be violent and all will be lost the aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together the very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men cries out for universal brotherhood for the unity of us all even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world millions of despairing men women and little children victims of a system that makes men torture and
imprison innocent people to those who can hear me i say do not despair the misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress the hate of men will pass and dictators die and the power they took from the people will return to the people and so long as men die liberty will never perish soldiers don't give yourselves to brutes men who despise you enslave you who regiment your lives tell you what to do what to think and what to feel who drill
you die at you treat you like cattle use you as cannon father don't give yourselves to these unnatural men machine men with machine minds and machine hearts you are not machines you are not cattle you are men you have the love of humanity in your hearts you don't hate only the unloved hate the unloved and the unnatural soldiers don't fight for slavery fight for liberty in the 17th chapter of saint luke it is written the kingdom of god is within man not one man nor a group of men but in all men in you you
the people have the power the power to create machines the power to create happiness you the people have the power to make this life free and beautiful to make this life a wonderful adventure then in the name of democracy let us use that power let us all unite let us fight for a new world a decent world that will give men a chance to work that will give you the future and old age of security by the promise of these things brutes have risen to power but they lie they do not fulfill that promise they
never will dictators free themselves but they enslave the people now let us fight to fulfill that promise let us fight to free the world to do away with national barriers to do away with greed with hate and intolerance let us fight for a world of reason a world where science and progress will lead to all men's happiness soldiers in the name of democracy let us all unite you ain't gonna believe this but you used to fit right here i'd hold you up and say to your mother this kid's gonna be the best kid in the
world this kid's gonna be somebody better than anybody ever knew and you grew up good and wonderful it was great just watching every day was like a privilege then the time come for you to be your own man and take on the world and you did but somewhere along the line you changed you stopped being you you let people stick a finger in your face and tell you you're no good and when things got hard you started looking for something to blame like a big shadow let me tell you something you already know the world
ain't all sunshine and rainbows it's a very mean and nasty place and i don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it you me or nobody is going to hit as hard as life but it ain't about how hard you hit it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward how much you can take and keep moving forward that's how winning is done now if you know what you're worth now go out and get what you're worth but you got
to be willing to take the hits and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you want to be because of him or her or anybody cowards do that and that ain't you you're better than that i'm always gonna love you no matter what no matter what happens you're my son you're my blood you're the best thing in my life but until you start believing in yourself you're gonna have a life don't forget to visit your [Music] mother oh you [ __ ] okay all right i'm putting cases on all you [ __ ] huh you
think you can do this [ __ ] yeah you think you can do this to me you [ __ ] will be playing basketball in pelican bay when i get finished with you shoe program [ __ ] 23 hour lockdown i'm the man up in this piece you'll never see the lighter dude the [ __ ] you think you [ __ ] with i'm the police i run [ __ ] here you just live here yeah that's right you better walk away go and walk away cause i'ma burn this [ __ ] down king kong
ain't got [ __ ] on me
