800. that's how many days in a row I uploaded a video from my daily Vlog 800 days [Music] it's been it's been like five years since I stopped daily vlogging and I think about it all the time and I think I think the thing that I think about the most is like the how of it like how what was what were the days like when I was living that life now all I want is like some degree of normalcy in my life you you spend your 20s figuring it out you spend your 30s doing it
and then you spend your 40s enjoying it and I'm I'm right on that threshold I'm 41 now and I want to enjoy it it's like I'm not interested in that manic life anymore but now that I can see it in retrospect with some clarity this is the inner uh this is what I think of when I think of those days so like the thing I think about the most the thing that occurs to me the most was the headspace required to come up with a fresh video every day and what I mean by that is
like as long as you're focused on what is my video today then are you ever really like present in what's happening in your actual life if I need to uh I need to vacuum the studio right now because it's filthy in here and my brain goes to a place immediately of like can I make this part of the Vlog [Music] oh thank you so much thank you so much I appreciate that now when it comes to something like vacuuming obviously obviously that's inconsequential but what about when it's like a date with the wife what about
when it's like a vacation with my family you know then it becomes a very different consideration and for the first like I don't know a couple hundred episodes maybe for the first year it wasn't even a consideration it was just go go go like everything is content get it all but towards the end and absolutely now looking back at it you realize like if you externalize like if you put out there on in a video if you take from your inside and put it out into the world every aspect of your life you're kind of
left with like what what am I like what what's left what's just for me am I a phony for exploiting the ever living out of my life every aspect of my life in the name of subject matter for my videos [Music] so that kind of ever-present question of like does being a daily lifestyle vlogger make me a fraud that got more and more like pervasive towards the end of what a big part of the reason why I stopped and I don't miss that but there are aspects of the daily Vlog game that I miss so
much [Music] as a filmmaker or YouTuber or whatever there's this constant question of like should I make something now today should I make something and if the answer is yes what should that something be and the magic of that daily Vlog was that that question was always answered like the goal posts were so well defined and there's something about that Clarity of purpose in a place like YouTube where there is no Clarity at all there's it's all ambiguity that Clarity of purpose is something I miss so much foreign [Music] still a mess [Music] [Music] foreign
we got a loose dog headed down Broadway full speed [Music] [Music] don't be frightened come on it's okay come on it's okay sweet boy no no no no no please don't I don't know I've been trying to catch it for five bucks [Music] so we got the dog back a Good Samaritan caught it and returned it to the owner that was so dramatic yeah to finish my story like the learnings from the Vlog the takeaway from all that is now as I re-embarked here on YouTube my goal is to draw less from my personal life
less introspective more looking out like what do I see versus so that's that's how I look at YouTube now it feels great
