[Music] this is volume eight in bad movie fights versus good movie fights in volume seven we learned that a good fight can have guns tropes can be used wisely to enhance the scene and silencers actually aren't that silent anything with bad CGI is a major no no anything with choppy editing to cover up act who can't fight is a major no no and remember no guns allowed identifi the defendant PA Cicero your H paid off judges everybody had their so let's do this let's start off with a good fight okay sir that's enough when this
Oscar winning dark comedy Kung drama K fight movie first came out it was fresh and Innovative the Daniels are a direct and doer who likes to push the envelope when it comes to film making but their wacky style is often tempered with hidden existential messages and this film is no different the fighting owes everything to the works of Jackie Chang and woing yang both of whom we've discussed in previous volumes and both of whom have worked with the lead actress in this film Michelle Yao now this scene is more playful than brutal [ __ ]
it really suits the tone of the film even when the film looks like it's going to be brutal it descends back into playful comedy don't worry Evelyn [Music] organic and there's nothing wrong with that because a fight scene should always suit the tone of the movie just imagine you saw this and then this happened pretty awesome right well not really in isolation yes but in actuality not really shut your mouth or I'll kick your teeth down your throat and I'll shut it for you just a position in movies is not rare but there's only so
far you can go and whilst this movie leans heavily into its influences one of its key influences as mentioned is very deeply connected to the [Applause] film G this is a scene from the 1992 Jackie Chang movie police Story 3 or sometimes known as super cop and the film was one that really propelled ya into stardom where she became a Bond girl in 1997 with the film Tomorrow Never Dies when your left and then rounded off the '90s into the next millennium with our next good scene [Music] [Music] this is where the art of fighting
becomes something Beyond impact brutality and fancy camera work and becomes something beautifully poetic that's the best expression for this fight in fact for the whole film and in this humble narrator's opinion this scene is maybe even [Music] better but that's for another volume Michelle Yao is underrated icon of action Cinema and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is Beauty and Grace [Music] intertwined much like this film now you may have noticed I avoid going in too hard on Steven seal hold pause there's plent of channels out there who are better suited for that Out Of Reach is
the Steven Sagal movie where he showed the world that human trafficking is wrong unless he's the one doing it but this scene is unforgivable because there's so much wrong here it's from the movie Out Of Reach no we could talk about Steven Seal's facial expression we could talk about how both actors are holding the sword so very poorly or maybe we can talk about their terrible movement however I just can't forgive the film making here firstly I was shocked that this film was made in 2004 it looks like it was filmed in the 80s it's
just so flat I had to consider if the Miz onon was actually just CGI just as an example let me know in the comments do these shots match up all three of them there are so many angles and instead of them complimenting each other they seem to have been edited together without a thought in the world for purpose pace and Rhythm when you make a film each edit in a scene any scene fight or not should have a purpose consider our fight Pi up what did I do what do I do [Music] it should take
us somewhere and even leave us somewhere a film we featured earlier drive has some incredible editing boy's father killed this however is wful and the ending is well just highly [Music] embarrassing and therefore it made me love laugh slightly when there was some push back when it came to praising this scene from Kill Bill which I featured in volume 4 the film making here is leagues ahead of that film and it has a Prestige of some of the best Asian fight movies ever made and asan Cinema has been highly influential when it comes to fight
scenes in movies one of the most influential if not the most influential director when it comes to fight scenes from Asian Cinema is Aira Cawa this scene from the the film sanjuro is breathtaken taking into consideration this was made back in 1962 before CGI and that there are zero edits in this shot it's an absolute Marvel kuawa Samurai films are the biggest influence on George lucas' Star Wars moments like this are straight out of karwa's Playbook but if I had told George Lucas that in the year 2024 his beloved world would have moments like [Music]
this 5 minutes later and this wondering if it's honorable to kill me like this he would probably say that's not true that's impossible and that brings us to our next bad fight die Disney Star Wars and ahoka and namely Anakin versus ahoka now this fight actually starts off okay I Shar comment on the bad lighting and that awful pasty look that digital cameras sometimes give you but the young actress who plays the younger version of Rosario Dawson's character is doing an okay job she moves well and the fight feels very organic however when this happens
this happens now in this series we have a rule no choppy editing to cover up actors who can't fight and I've gone on record defending actors like Finn Jones Charlie steron um Thurman and many others but this could have done with some choppy editing because I do love Rosario Dawson she's an excellent actress punching skills ain't too shabby either but her movement and and the fighting in the scene are simply unusable these takes are not usable they could have cranked up the footage speed or maybe like I said edited around her fighting but in its
current form the footage is simply unusable and and this is a great example this is the most simple of moves all she has to do is break free of a gridlock between lightsabers and it's just so slow and plotting it seems like Hayden Christensen who plays Anakin is slowing himself down to match her speed and based on her fighting style speed and aimen throughout this fight I do not even for a millisecond believe she could do this and win the fight there's absolutely zero chance now this volume has featured some of the best weapons and
swordplay in movies but what if you're not a fan of Sword Play what if you're a fan of that old school knuckle to knuckle fighting like in Lee Marvin's Point [Music] Blank rough ready and not as graceful as something like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon now this scene is just sheer Brute Force featuring a killer soundtrack on top I must say or maybe you love that old 8s Vibe and what the underrated Cynthia ruffrock kep to offer maybe even this guy if you come back in here I'm going to hit you with so many rights you're
going to beg for left who surely isn't human I heard another the rumor that you were bitten by a king cobber yeah I was but after 5 days of agonizing pain the Cobra died great joke do you know what else is a great joke over 90% of you haven't subscribed to this channel so please do so it helps the channel grow and thusly I can make more and more and more and more of these videos I want some more more for your viewing pleasure oh look it's our old friend test on on a bus again
Chuck Norris is surely Beyond human you call out a hit he's got a knife that's not a [Music] knife that's a knife and the'80s were wild or maybe you loved the '90s because they combine swords and weapons with some good old school punches and kicks and this leads us to maybe my favorite fight scene ever does anybody have any idea about who or what this is you fight well in the old style but you've caused me enough trouble now you face the Shredder the shredder I got him this guy's good yeah now of course there's
some Nostalgia attached to this I was a tiny child when first seeing this and watching it now it has its flaw especially at the earlier part of the fight impacts aren't great but there's always something special about an antagonist who is just too strong to beat you lie do I and maybe that's why I love this fight just so [Music] much but this fight does not fit into this volume at all so we're going to move on [Music] and we'll move on to another antagonist who seems unbeatable Dune 2 was one of 2024's biggest hits
and will likely finish in the top five of the year for a 3our plus movie that's pretty remarkable great moments like this are just stun it but many of you ask for this she's your pet the final fight of Dune 2 sees our protagonist polar trees go head to head against this Savage antagonist and the fight is brutal hand toand combat mixed with weapons grappling brutal blows and fatal stabs isn't known for Action Direction but here he keeps it Primal nothing flashy it's just visceral but the silent Genius of this scene are the reaction shots
look at them they frame the drama brilliantly and honestly watch a lot of fight scenes go back and watch some of the fight scenes in each of this volume in this series so far tell me how many reaction shots I mean singular reaction shots are there let me know in the comments because on a rough guess I would say there about 10 they are a hidden weapon if you want to add drama to your fight scenes don't believe me if you watch this video again in the first good fight scene I spoke about everything everywhere
for at once and the fact that it's an Oscar winning film look how many reaction shots are used in that scene and how it elevates the drama it tells a story and dune two is full of drama I'm pointing the way having said that I do prefer this fight from Dune one same principle Weaponry to the death but the film making is more Innovative Paul has already seen his enemies downfall through his ability to Traverse [Music] time as of we and thusly through the brilliant Direction by Denise vov all we are left with is Paul's
moral choice to kill or not to kill now this has been a volume full of many of your guys choices I do read pretty much all the comments so tell me which fight did you think was the best today and which bad and good movie fights should I cover in the next volume let me know in the comments new volume coming next Sunday please like this video subscribe and hit the notification button to be notified when the next volumes out this has been bad movie fights versus good movie fights Volume 8 [Music] [Music] [Music]
