[Music] my dad was a captain on a cargo ship and so when I was two I sailed all over the world traveling to these new places different places and I've always kind of felt like both I belong and an alien in almost every place I've lived home was the ship it wasn't these places that we went to this place only started to really feel like a home when I added the people I loved to the house it has only started to feel really like a home since then hey I'm Jim Saab and you're watching me
on Asian paints where the heart is welcome to my home [Music] hey guys come on in so this home used to be owned by the attyas they used to invite us over every Diwali in order to have like a little family a holiday out over here [Music] they moved to Dubai so my dad bought the house off of them so that they could continue the ritual of coming here every diwalien I remember just going to the beach with my sister and digging those giant holes and it just took some time to be like oh no
no I can stay in whichever room I want because there were so many times I had come as a guest essentially you can make any place your home if you're just open to meeting people and talking to them and truly being interested in them in their lives foreign [Music] she may run away with all of y'all coming so wait for me to go there [Music] boy it's me it's me it's me it's no one else this thing over there thing over there [Music] this is the living room it's where we end up spending a large
chunk of our time we've tried to keep the furniture the layout more or less the same as what it was when I was a kid and I used to come here we've reupholstered and made changes to what was already there to a certain extent but essentially foreign The Nostalgia of the houses remained the same nowadays everybody wants to be super minimal with things like these you know really minimal straight lines in this pursuit of minimalism we've lost the real eye on design like if you look at banisters older banisters they used to be so intricate
and floral patterns you know gold weave nowadays it's all [Music] things [Music] okay so this is probably my favorite part of the house without a doubt this feeling of inside outside being the same you know not being something that uh oh there's the inside of the house and then you step outside and now it's outside of the house but more like the whole thing is one giant entity that's why I love it [Music] favorite time is uh Post 6 PM because we live near a mud flat you can walk out to the ocean and the
receding water has left all of these pools of water so what ends up happening is the reflection of the skies and all of these pools and it's this kind of oil slick effect where the sky and the land are the same it's just gorgeous [Music] [Music] and it's this strange apocalyptic landscape where I can just imagine apocalyptic film ending with a giant you know car chase out on this out in this area I I do find a place like this immediately peaceful and welcoming [Music] so come and check out one of the master bedrooms this
is where I would usually stay if I didn't come with Mimi uh we haven't tried to change too much we've retained kind of the flavor of what it was before we've retained the light fixtures this four poster bed uh I like uh I like this little um Mosaic style lamp on the side table and actually it really goes with the Shakti Burman that we have up here one detail I really like about this room particularly is this hidden closet which doubles as stairs leading up to a kind of attic if I had to Define my
style which people have forced me to do all the time I would say lions got a Mane peacock's got a tail that's the way the animal kingdom is I have absolutely zero problem being flamboyant [Music] features of the rooms without a doubt are these outdoor balconies it means you get nice beautiful cross ventilation if you open up the windows right behind the bed my dad had the whole thing kind of redone so he got this whole all of the wood of the outdoors painted made sure everything was greased and still opening up nicely and the
entire facade of the house painted white which is why it's gleaming and looking so brilliant just now actually I guess there's a lesson in there somewhere about how to kind of keep a memory or keep Nostalgia alive it takes work and it takes effort and it takes time and care and attention giving us new memories to add to the old memories that we have from before [Music] if there is a water body around I want to be in it within 30 minutes of reaching the place much like over here [Music] this house is mostly a
mixture of my family's choices and the family that owned the house before the whole place is a bit representative of the Parsi Bungalow style which is you know the the pillars especially on the outside there are those pillars that flank the house and the complete white exterior wood and glass a lot of glass all over the place over here we have a bunch of different light fixtures that we kind of looked at and they eventually decided to go in a more I guess I would just call it more like um classical ornamental here we have
the living room keeping it open on three sides was obviously a very intentional choice to make sure that you get as much Breeze and cross ventilation as possible there's a theme of semi-circles all through the house little embedded archways to put artwork and and um uh sculptures so like the slightly circular Arch nature of the staircase leading upstairs I think it adds this nice winding semi-circular symmetry to everything which I I really appreciate [Music] I do treasure my anonymity quite a lot and I think you can fall into the Trap as an actor of losing
touch with a certain kind of reality because you're treated a certain way by the people you meet as opposed to normally and you forget how to relate normally and so then your entire life becomes like you're living in a film slightly fake so my favorite part about coming here is about just the piece of being in nature to a certain extent get that anonymity back [Music] if you're inspired by my home's Decor go to beautifulhomes.com by Asian paints and check out the lovely style guide [Music]
