As Buddhism affirms, the path that leads us to success is not easy. Buddhist teaching highlights the importance of properly interpreting the teachings received, avoiding misunderstandings that can lead to harmful actions and suffering. If we want to live a full and satisfying life, deeper understanding, personal reflection, and conscious application of Buddhist wisdom in everyday life are necessary.
After saying this, the great sage Buddha finished his teaching and left. Friend, pay close attention to this story, because this story will be useful to you for a lifetime. Best regards and I hope you find growth and success in these words.
In a city there lived a rich merchant who had achieved everything in life. He was a man of incomparable wisdom. He had never known defeat in any aspect of his life, and his business was also prospering remarkably.
Wherever he decided to undertake, success always awaited him. What was his secret? His father had taught him four things that he followed regularly and thanks to following these tips, he was full of happiness.
He was a successful man in all aspects of his life. A long time passed like this, but now that rich merchant was already a very old man. He began to feel that his death was very close, that his time could come at any moment.
He also knew that his son was very innocent and still didn't understand how the world worked. Therefore, he called his son and told him: "Son, I learned four very important things from my father, your grandfather, and I have applied them throughout my entire life, that is why I have been a successful man and have lived happily. Thanks to that advice, I have peace of mind and I am rich, I never got sick, nor did I lack money.
You can see that I am the richest man in this city, but I am also satisfied with what I have. I am immensely happy, but I want you Go further, earn more name and more money. People must know you and recognize you.
" The rich merchant approached his son closer and began to say: "Son, today I am going to tell you four things about the world that my father taught me. , and that you must learn. If you incorporate these tips into your life, following them regularly, you will also become a very rich man and you will be happy.
By following these tips, there will be no sadness in your home or problems in your business. " After saying this, the rich merchant began to tell the four things to his son. "Son, the first thing is to go to work in the shade and come back.
under the shadow. The second, put a leather barrier around your house. The third, always sweeten what you eat.
And the fourth, always keep your wife tied up. " After saying this, the rich merchant felt calm and at peace, knowing that his son was very innocent, but that he would surely follow his advice and incorporate those four pieces of advice into his life. A few months passed, and one day, the rich merchant died.
After his father's death, his son wrote those four pieces of advice on a piece of paper so that he would never forget them and began to apply them in his daily life. The first thing his father told him What he had said was to go out and come under the shade, so he set up a tent from his house to his shop. He had a lot of money and no one could stop him.
When people asked him why he did it, he simply replied that his father had told him to do it. Then, following his father's advice, he built a leather wall on both sides of his house. This made the neighbors very angry, and they even fought with him.
Some of them asked him why he had done that, that The leather smelled bad and caused them problems, and they asked him to remove it immediately. However , no one could do anything to him because he had a lot of money. The son of the market was determined to follow all his father's advice with all his heart.
His father had also told him a third thing: sweeten what you eat, so he always asked his wife to prepare something sweet to eat and he only ate that. And the last advice his father had told him was to always keep your wife tied up, so every day he kept his wife tied up with a rope. Many days passed like this, and slowly, the life of the rich merchant's son began to be ruined because he had misunderstood his father's advice and he followed it to the letter.
His big business began to deteriorate and the number of customers began to decrease because he went to the store when he wanted and came home when he felt like it. He was not interested in his father's business, so all his customers began to get angry with him, and one by one, they began to stop coming to his store. One day, his business collapsed.
The business that his father had established with so much effort, he had ruined in just a few months. He was very worried and had also built a leather wall around his house, which had caused a terrible smell in the surrounding area. Therefore, everyone who lived nearby abandoned their homes and moved to another place.
Due to the smell of leather, no one wanted to go to his house, even his friends and relatives avoided going there. But I still didn't understand why all this was happening. He began to experience deep anxiety and constantly consumed sweet foods, which resulted in a marked increase in his weight.
This obesity became the cause of multiple diseases that found refuge in his body. The frequent visitors to his home were now the doctors. Due to these circumstances, he also started losing his money in these matters.
Finally, he had applied his father's fourth piece of advice : he kept his wife tied up, which made her angry and led her to leave him to return to her mother. He tried to reconcile with his wife in various ways, but she wouldn't budge, and anyway, what woman would want to live with a man who keeps her on a leash? Little by little, the life of the merchant's son had been completely ruined.
He no longer had a business, no money, no wife, nor the relatives who used to be around for money, and even his health was not good. This made him very worried and disturbed. I didn't understand what was happening or why.
He was very distressed by all these things and in his heart he blamed his father, saying: "Father, you have completely ruined my life. Because of those four pieces of advice, I have lost everything: I have no business, no wealth, no relatives, no wife. , and even my health has abandoned me.
Because of you, my life is completely ruined. If I had not followed those four tips, if I had not applied them in my life, I would be living a happy life. What have I gained by following those four tips "Like an obedient son, I followed all your words, I believed in them, but I was a fool to blindly believe in your words.
" Saying this, he began to cry uncontrollably. Then, one day he found out that a wise man had arrived in the neighboring city who solved everyone's problems, no matter what they were. Hearing this, he thought he might find a solution to his problem.
With great hope, our protagonist reached the wise man, fell at his feet and began to cry bitterly. "Oh venerable master, only you can save me now. My father has completely ruined my life.
My current situation is a complete disaster because of my father. I did exactly what he told me, always like a good son, I followed all his words, I did all my duties, and look what my father has done to me. Even on his deathbed, he taught me wrong, and I am suffering the consequences of incorporating all his advice into my life and following his example.
And look where I am. "Today, my life is completely ruined. I still don't understand why my father did this to me.
Did I do something wrong with him? " Saying this, he began to cry even harder in front of the wise man. Then, the wise man said to the merchant's son: "Son, calm down.
First tell me everything that happened to you. Why are you crying like this ? What is the reason for your problem?
" Hearing this, the merchant's son gave the wise man a paper that he had written after his father's death, where he had written down the four pieces of advice. The wise man read the paper and began to laugh out loud, saying to the merchant's son: "How naive you are! Your father gave you all the wisdom in the world, but you couldn't understand it.
You didn't follow his advice correctly and you say he showed you the wrong way. Your father was testing you to see if you could understand his words or not, if you could get the true meaning of his advice. If he had wanted, he could have explained the meaning clearly to you, but he wanted you to discover the meaning of his words yourself.
I have not seen anyone more naive than you, who has such wisdom of the world and yet commits such stupidities. You have no knowledge, you have not acquired any wisdom. If you had understood the true meaning of those words, you would have been successful and happy in your life like your father, and your life would have been pleasant.
But you are so naive that you misinterpreted your father's advice and did not think about the meaning of those words. You just started doing what he told you without understanding anything. If you did not understand the meaning of those words, you could have consulted someone wise and found out their meaning.
But what you have understood from your father's advice is not what it means. " Hearing this, the merchant's son said, "Then what am I supposed to do? How can I fix my life now?
" The wise man explained to him the true meaning of his father's advice, teaching him how to correctly apply it in his life to regain his happiness and success. With this new vision, the merchant's son committed to follow the true path indicated by his father, in the hope of rebuilding his life and recovering the lost prosperity and joy. Before revealing the solution to his dilemmas, I invite you to share in the comments what you interpret from the advice that the father gave to his son.
This is your opportunity to demonstrate whether you really grasp the depth and scope of the teachings that the rich merchant wanted to pass on to his descendant. Let us continue. The meaning of the first piece of advice, according to the wise man, is that you should begin your work before dawn and finish after sunset.
This advice is interpreted as an emphasis on dedication and effort in the work, ensuring that the maximum possible time is dedicated to understanding and improving it properly. The intention is that, by applying your mind and efforts to your work, you will progress and be successful. However, the merchant's son misinterpreted this advice, literally establishing an environment that allowed him to always move in the shadows, instead of understanding the symbolism of working hard and during the most productive hours of the day.
My father gave me very important knowledge, but I treated that diamond as if it were a stone. Then the merchant's son said to the wise man: "Teacher, what is the second advice and what does it mean? " Continuing, the wise man explained the meaning of the second tip, saying: "Making a leather fence means that you must have a dog or a cat at home.
When you have a dog or a cat, they will protect your home from all sides, completely securing your wealth and allowing you to focus on your work in the store without worries, better understand your tasks and progress. Furthermore, you will never have the fear that a thief may steal your property. That is the true meaning of making a leather fence, but you interpreted "That advice differently.
You ended up completely covering the walls of your house with leather, which caused an unpleasant smell around and even your neighbors moved in. Even your friends and relatives started avoiding your house because of the bad smell. " The merchant's son replied, "Master, that's fine, but what about eating sweet foods?
Did I misinterpret that too? I followed exactly what my father said, eating sweets every day, and look how my body has become. " so heavy, attracting all kinds of diseases.
Was I misunderstanding that too? " The wise man said to the merchant's son: "Yes, you also misinterpreted that advice. Eating sweets means that you should only eat when you are hungry, not before or after.
Otherwise, if you eat without being hungry, you will never appreciate that food, and It will never seem sweet to you, no matter how delicious or exceptional it is. But when a person is very hungry, even a dry bread seems like a delicacy to him, he eats it with love, respects it and finds it sweet. That is why your father said that you should' make your food sweet', so that your health remains in good condition, since food becomes something precious when you are really hungry.
But you misinterpreted this too, eating sweets every day, which increased your weight and attracted diseases, bringing you closer to death. So from now on , eat only when you are hungry; It will be very beneficial for you and will help keep your body healthy. And if you eat without being hungry, it will be harmful to you, and this was your third mistake that ruined your life.
" Then the merchant's son said, "The fourth piece of advice is clearly written: 'Always keep your wife tied up. ' Is there also another meaning to this? Did I misinterpret that too?
" The wise man replied, "Yes, son. Keeping your wife tied up doesn't mean you have to physically tie her up with rope every day. It means that when there are differences or arguments between you, you should not get angry with her, but find a solution.
Trust and mutual understanding is the foundation of any relationship. As long as a man or woman is bonded to their partner, they will both feel secure and committed to that relationship, and that is the true meaning of keeping your wife 'tied'. But you misunderstood this too, by physically tying your wife, which is completely wrong and one more reason for your downfall.
" What your father was trying to convey is that you should strengthen the bond with anyone who is tied to you, so , even after conflicts and disagreements, that person does not cause you harm, does not treat you badly or take advantage of you. You must do the same with them. Always strengthen your relationships, do not leave them to chance, otherwise, they will escape you of hands.
Most of us make these mistakes in our lives and never give time to our new relationships, which makes them not strong, and that's why we end up losing those relationships. And this is the same mistake you also made. You tied up your wife, so how could she forgive you?
That's the reason she left you. What you did with your wife is unforgivable, but you should apologize to her because you did everything wrong. So go and ask her for forgiveness.
Those were the four pieces of advice that your father tried to explain to you, but you interpreted everything wrong and that's why you completely ruined yourself. But you still have plenty of time; If you follow all these tips correctly, you can recover everything you have lost. These tips are the solution to all the problems in our lives.
If you want to be successful, you must work hard. You should leave home before sunrise and only return after sunset so that no one can steal your wealth. You must tie your relationships in such a way that they do not cause you problems or harm and always take advantage of a good and healthy meal when you are really hungry, so that you can live happily every day you have left.
Always hold your relationships firmly and do not let them loose; Otherwise, they will slip out of your hands. And make sure you have a dog or cat at home so your wealth is always safe. After following all these tips in your life, you will be able to regain everything you have lost so far and maybe achieve even more progress and prosperity, making your life happy and enjoyable.
Saying this, the sage calmed down. The merchant's son had understood all his mistakes, thanked the wise man and returned home. He applied those four pieces of advice in his life and followed their teachings correctly.
Since then, he began to see positive effects in his life, he managed to revive his business once again, he managed to reconcile with his wife, and little by little, his life became happier and more pleasant. So friend, I hope you liked today's story and learned something from it. I invite you to share your reflections and learnings in the comments section.
