[Music] well thank you for being with us today I pray for you right now that you will not only enjoy the program but you will learn something that's going to help you in your everyday life I started yesterday talking about priorities and I want to continue that teaching today and let me just say just in cas case I don't get into all of it that this is just a simple version I believe that what our priority should be is always God first then family then yourself and I know that may sound a little strange most

of the time when you hear people teach on priorities somehow rather they never put you in there but the thing is is that if you don't take care of yourself then you're never going to be fit to take care of or help anyone else and God wants you to take care of yourself he wants you to take care of your health he wants you to take care of your mind your emotions you need to do some things for yourself occasionally that you enjoy you need to get the rest that you need if you are at

the bottom of your list of people that you take care of then you need to move yourself up several spaces just remember the best gift that you can give anybody is a healthy you and then I believe our jobs how we make our money comes after that and then I think that doing things for other people should always be a priority in our lives because it's a priority to God and you see we're not looking at things the way the world does we're looking at this from the Viewpoint of how God teaches it in his

word and keep in mind if you do things God's way you're always going to have a better life than if you try to do things the world's way so going to start by saying 1 John 5:21 little children keep yourselves from Idols from false gods from anything and everything that would occupy the place in your heart that is due to God and from any sort of substitute for him that would take first place in your life amen let it be so you know many years ago thank God it's been many years ago my idea of

what it meant to be a Christian was of course to believe that Jesus died for me paid for my sins and to receive him into my heart heart and to go to church and maybe do a little bit of church work and I wasn't really a happy Christian I was just kind of just like a Christian like everybody else I knew was a Christian I thought that being a Christian meant going to church but back in the 70s God touched my life and I entered into what I call I started entering into what I now

call when I became serious about God in my life when I started wanting to put him first place in my life and that changes a lot of things and it should for you if you're a Christian God should be first in your life and we're going to talk about how we put him first in our life but first God then your family then yourself then your job then doing things for other people now you know there may be people that feel differently about it but this is just the way that I want to present it

to you today so anything can become an idol anything that becomes more important to us than God can become an idol you can idolize your job you can idolize how you look you can spend more time on how you look than you do on anything else we can idolize our children or our friends friends we need to be careful that we always keep God first place in our life and really how do we know that we're doing that well we spend time with him regularly not occasionally when you get time but you give him the

first part of your time for me I love to give God the first time in the morning I know that's different for different people depending on what stage of Life they're in when I had little kids at home I couldn't spend as much time as I can now but God can be in your thoughts and in your conversation all throughout the day you can talk to him about anything anywhere anytime another way to keep God first is to study his word to make studying and you notice I didn't say reading because I've come to the

conclusion that we always tell people read your Bible but and that's good but I think we need to study the Bible and many times that's just something as simple as reading something but then taking some time to actually think about it and kind of roll it over and over in your mind and think about what is this really saying to me we need to know the word of God because if we don't know God's word we're never going to know what should be the most most important thing in our life and if we know the

word then we'll have spiritual knowledge that will help us make decisions that will always keep our priorities in line thank God all the time I mean we need to we need to our thank yous need to far outweigh our petitions you can thank God for little things for big things you can thank him for things that you've had for a long time thank him for something he does for you that's brand new thank him for himself not just what he does for you where would we be without God you can keep God first by seeking

his guidance on everything Proverbs 3 says trust in the Lord with all your heart and mind and lean not to your own understanding in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your steps even if you start out every day say God I need your guidance today in everything that I do sometimes if you're going to make a decision just take a few minutes get by yourself for a few minutes three minutes five minutes and just quiet your mind and see what your heart is saying being obedient to God is one of the best

ways to put him first in our life and can I just say right now that God is always right no matter what we think no matter what it seems like God is always right if you do things God's way you're going to like your life a whole lot lot more than you are if you don't do things God's way but you can't know his way if you don't know his word give into his work in the earth God could support the preaching of the Gospel any way that he wants to but he wants us to

participate it's one of the ways that we show our love for him many times when uh Pastor receiving an offering in a church service he'll he'll say we're going to receive the love offering well that just becomes a phrase that we may not even be fully aware what it means but it means that we're giving what we're giving because of our love for God because we appreciate all he's done in our lives and because we love other people and we want to see the people that don't know him receive the Gospel so they can know

him behave like him you know the WW JD bracelets were so popular a few years ago that means what would Jesus do but really in each situation we should do what Jesus would do a man was telling me this morning about a situation he had in a store last night where somebody started yelling at him and just making a big scene over something that was not a big deal and he said he had to really take a deep breath and count to five or six and make a decision about what he was going to do

and he decided that even though he would have loved to have started an argument or perhaps even a fight with the man he knew that God would have him just be peaceful and so he did what the man was asking him to do just to keep the peace we need to always do what Jesus would do in a situation psalm 37:4 says delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart I love that scripture and here's another great one Matthew 6:33 seek ye first the kingdom of God and seek

is a very strong word it means to Crave and pursue and go after seek ye first the kingdom of God and his way of being and doing and all of these other things will be added to you besides you know if if you if you call yourself a Christian and you just kind of have tacked God onto your life and want him to bless it and make it all good your thinking is all wrong you need to put God first and then live the kind of life that would please him and if you're doing things

that you know don't please him then you need to ask him to help you have the strength to get rid of those things in your life how can we tell what our priorities are well what you put your time into shows what your priorities are but here's a few other things what do you talk about most of the time I remember going on a missions trip probably 40 years ago my first one to India and the man who took us was also a friend and we got back from a two- week trip and he said

to me he saidd do you realize that the only thing that you talked about on this trip at all was God and things pertaining to God well I wasn't trying to be overly spiritual but God had touched my life in a powerful way and so many things about God and His word seemed brand new to me and I was excited about it and I wanted to talk about it all the time you know the book The Bible says in Malachi 3:16 I love this then those who feared the Lord talked with each other and the

Lord listened and heard and a scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honored his name so guess what if you go to lunch with a friend and you're gossiping and backbiting and being judgmental talking about what's wrong with everybody you know God doesn't record that conversation he doesn't like that one but if you go to lunch with a friend and you're talking about how good God is and what he's done for you in your life or some other good report about God he likes that he gets out

his book of remembrance and he records that conversation isn't that a cool thought and I like to keep a book of remembrance and I recommend that you do too where I record the special things that God does for me the Bible says that we should be conscious and aware of the love that God has for us and the only way we can do that is by paying attention to the things that he does and when something good happens to you don't say oh that was a lucky coincidence no let's not blame God for the bad

stuff and then not give him credit for the good stuff matter of fact we don't need to ever blame God for the bad stuff because he doesn't have anything bad to give us what do you think about most of the time what's on your mind most of the time is it how to get what you want by any means that you need to use in order to get it or is it what God would have you do in every situation how much time do you spend thinking about what you can do for somebody else to

be a blessing to them what's the first thing on your mind in the morning and the last thing at night what do you spend your money on you know that's one of our priorities do you find it easy to spend money eating out but difficult to spend money on teaching resources you know we'll all we all offer resources teaching resources books or CDs at the end of every one of our programs and I will always do that as long as I'm on television because the best thing that I can offer you is the word of

God we need that more than we need anything else so do you find it easy to eat out but difficult to spend money on teaching resources Christian books and other teachings that will feed you do you freely spend new money on spend money on a new outfit or another pair of earrings or another trinket for your car or your motorcycle but have difficulty obeying God at offering time in church and here's a good one I thought of do you become judgmental about people that are receiving offerings your pastor or a teacher or even here on

TV when we ask you to give into different things you become judgmental and think they're they talk about money too much they're talking about that too long they shouldn't do that money money money you have a problem with that but you don't have any problem watching The Shopping Channel for an hour try to talk you into buying a ring or a bracelet that you don't need and really won't do you any good if you can listen to them talk for an hour about getting a new trinket surely you can listen for 10 or 15 minutes

when someone is talking to you about the value value of giving money into the kingdom of God well what are some of the things that God tells us to put first giving before spending our tithe the first 10% of our income I believe belongs to God and I don't think it's a law anymore like it was under the old Covenant but I still believe in tithing I do it because I want to not because I have to and I love going Way Beyond that but the first portion of all of our increase belongs to God

and we need to give it cheerfully and joyfully Ezekiel 2040 says for on my Holy Mountain on the mountain Heights of Israel says the Lord God they are all the house of Israel all of them in the land Shall Serve me and they will and I will gracious accept them and there will I require now this is Old Testament and there will I require your offerings and the first fruits and the choicest the choicest the best of your contributions well what what is that fair God wants the best of everything but see if we give

God the best then he's going to bless the rest it's amazing that 90% of your income can go further than 100% would have I remember a time when I decided that God would rather us get out of De than to tithe and I talked Dave into it which I was being foolish and he was being foolish in listening to me and the first week we didn't tithe I forget how much it was it wasn't a great amount of money back then because I stayed home with the kids and Dave worked and our tithe was not

huge but that same week we had a washing machine repair and a refrigerator repair and it came to the exact amount of money that we held back in our giving let me tell you something God can protect your stuff and take care of you if you do what he ask you to do Proverbs 3:9 says honor the Lord with your wealth and the first fruits of all your crops here's another thing the Bible tells us to do first first examine yourself and then you will see better how to help other people change wow Matthew 7:5

says you hypocrite first take the plank out of your own eye and then you will see clearly how to remove the speck from your brother's eye it's amazing all we can find wrong with other people and not realize that we have faults that are much bigger than theirs why because we may read the Bible or study the Bible and we're always thinking of who it applies to but somehow or another we don't think about where am I in this am I doing this thing that God tells me to do do I just have this scripture

underlined in my Bible or am I actually doing it you see the Bible says knowing these things blessed are you if do them in John 13 Jesus washed the disciples feet he put on a servant's towel and washed the disciples feet and feet weren't clean back in those days they were Dusty because they wore sandals and Jesus the King of Kings took off his robes put on a servant's towel knelt down at their feet and wash their feet and of course the feet are not so much the idea as it is that we need to

be servants and we need to be willing to do lowly and even distasteful tasks and do it with joy for the Lord and so it gives all this example of how he washed their feet and their response and then in John 13:17 it says happy and blessed are you knowing these things if you do them James said be a doer and not just a hearer of God's word I'm actually trying to get people to think today are you doing what the word of God tells you to do or are you making excuses for not doing

it or perhaps putting it off till another time there was a group of people in habac and God had told them 18 years previously to build his house but they were still now building their own house and making excuses for not building the Lord's house and they were complaining about their conditions because it seemed like everything they got they lost and you know they always came up short and didn't have enough and they didn't understand why and God told him it's because you're building your own house instead of building mine well what what house are

you building are you spending your time just to add a little something else to your house but you're not giving anything to the work of the Kingdom you're only hurting yourself God will provide for the preaching of the Gospel giving is an opportunity Galatians 6 says don't let any opportunity pass you by to be good to other people how many opportunities we do we have come in front of us and we tell people we'll pray for you and really we could help them if we wanted to examine yourself when you read the word not like

unto condemnation or in a judgmental way that's going to make you feel bad about yourself but if the word the word of God is like a mirror and when we look in here we we should see how we are compared to the way the Bible tells us to be and if we see that we're coming up short in an area then receive that conviction agree with God ask for forgiveness and then ask him to help you change in that area and do the thing that you should be doing examine yourself let me read Matthew 7:5

again you hypocrite what's a hypocrite a hypocrite is someone who tells other people what to do with then doesn't do it themselves you hypocrite first take the plank out of your own eye and then you will see clearly how to remove the speck from your brother's eye I like that the Bible says why do we judge other people I think this is in Romans 2:1 because we do the same things that we judge them for Galatians 61 says brothers and sisters if someone is caught in a sin you who live by the spirit should res

should restore the the person gently but watch yourselves lest you also be tempted you know when we see someone doing something that's wrong and we know it's hurting them God may want to use us to call it to their attention but boy we need to make sure we do it with humility and not with pride don't ever think well I would never do that because really you don't know what you might do if God didn't help you all the time the Bible often says watch and pray and I wonder sometimes if it doesn't partially mean

watch yourself and pray do you want to be everything that God wants you to be do you want to keep your priorities straight God first family build your family relationships family is so important if you have elderly parents don't ignore them remember all they did for you or even if they didn't treat you great growing up do what you believe Jesus would do and show them love anyway it's not good to not take care of those in your family who can't take care of themselves spend time with your children don't just let the television babysit

them all the time spend time on on your marriage Dave and I have been married 54 years and I'm very happy to say that but it's something that we still have to work at we need to make sure that we spend time together we need to make sure that we talk and communicate and we're very busy we could easily think oh you know we've been together forever that's not important but it is important it's important that we compliment one another it's important that we do things for one another then remember yourself take care of yourself

get the right amount of sleep get the right amount of rest do some things you enjoy once in a while if you enjoy taking a walk take time to go take a walk spend time in the word of God that helps you when you do that and then we need to work we need to make money whether your job as being a homemaker or the CEO of a corporation obviously we need to work and make doing things for other people a priority in your life don't just do it when you feel like it's being forced

on you but look for ways to be a blessing to other people matter of fact I think it's important to try to be a blessing to somebody every day every single day another thing God says to do first is to forgive other people before we expect God to forgive our sins uhoh we could talk about that a long time I wonder how many of you are watching this program today and right now you're mad at somebody but you got up this morning and you prayed and asked God to do several things for you well when

you pray with unforgiveness in your heart it has a negative effect on the power of your prayers we need to forgive everyone for everything that we might have against them forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us God's word is so amazing it's so absolutely wonderfully amazing and I encourage you to keep your priorities straight and always make that go make sure that God is number one Romans 14:17 this is going to be our foundation scripture for the [Music] weekend after all the kingdom of God is not a matter of getting

we could just stop right there after all the kingdom of God is not a matter of getting the food and the drink that one likes and I think really when he says food and drink there we really need to expand that and and just say you know the the kingdom of God is not about us getting everything we want when we want it that's not what it's about you know the the disciples in Jesus's day they thought that he had come to set up an Earthly Kingdom and that he was going to put all their

enemies in their place and he was going to do away with evil and he was going to set up this Throne somewhere and they were all going to get to rule alongside him and he tried to tell him that he came to set up a different kind of Kingdom he said the kingdom of God is in you it's not necessarily about what goes on around us but it's inside of us and a kingdom is a is a domain or a realm that a king resides over and the truth is is he is the king of

our hearts Jesus is the king of our hearts and he's really a lot more concerned about our inner life than he is our outer life now that doesn't mean he's not concerned about our circumstances it doesn't mean that he's not concerned about the things that hurt us or the things that we want or the things that we need he wants to hear about all of those things but he's more concerned about what goes in us what go what's going on in us about our inner life than he is our outer life because to be honest

and you may not believe me when I say this but if you're inner life and my inner life is right and it's strong in God what goes on around us is not all that really important to us I mean and it's not it's not that we don't want good things to happen but you would be amazed what you can go through with a smile on your face I said you would be amazed what you can go through with a smile on your face and while you're hurting have a deep desire to help other people if

things are right on the inside the kingdom of God is not getting everything that we want but it is righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Ghost now I think that it's very easy that being a fairly Short scripture to just gloss right over that and never really get the meaning of it but you see he's saying the kingdom is not about all this it's about it's about knowing who you are in Christ knowing that you're right with him my gosh how valuable is that how valuable is it to not have to be mad at

yourself all the time or to be afraid that God's mad at you or to feel that you have to compare yourself with other people and that peace oh my goodness gracious sakes alive peace peace oh you know I've just come to the point years ago where I just finally realize life's not even worth living if you can't have peace I mean if you got to be tormented every day day and worried and fearful and frustrated about something all the time then what is the point in anything because no matter what you have or own you're

never going to enjoy it if you don't know how to have peace and there is a peace that passes understanding and then it's joy in the Holy Ghost and it really comes in that order first you have to stop trying to get you learn who you are in Christ that leads you to peace peace with God peace with yourself and peace with your fellow man peace with your circumstances and then here comes the joy and enjoyment of everyday life Joy includes enjoyment so that's what we're talking about this weekend tomorrow morning is going to be

righteousness tomorrow night peace Saturday morning joy and learning how to enjoy life and tonight we're going to talk about the results of wrong Pursuits when we live to get and we're pursuing wrong things how just always turns out badly and our life is like a dry desert a parched dry desert where nothing can really satisfy us so just a few examples do we seek what God can do for us or do we seek him for who he is I made the mistake of seeking him for what he could do for me the for the first

good number of years that I was in a more serious relationship ship with God I think we all do that we usually come to God with a lot of problems and we want him to fix them we have not been able to fix them so now we want him to fix them and I might even add that God will work with us on that basis for a good long period of time but then there has to come A Change there has to come a transition and it's really called the beginning of spiritual maturity it's really

called beginning to grow up in God and not just be a baby Christian the time but actually become a son or a daughter of the most high God I recall when God began to teach me you need to seek my face and not my hand if you seek my face my hand will always be open but if you seek my hand you're going to miss the most important thing that there is just imagine if my husband traveled and every time that he came home I ran to the airport and uh let's just say he usually

brought me something and so I didn't even pay attention to him didn't look at him just what what what'd you bring me what do you got digging in his pockets what what do you got what do you got for me well it wouldn't be long and he wouldn't be wanting to give me anything anymore amen but if I'm just interested in him I'm so glad you're home I love you and then he gives me a gift then he's doing it for the right reason and I've got the right motive toward him do I seek God's

will or do I seek my own will do I have my own plan and and I'm trying to make God bless it do you ever give God any advice on how he could do things well you know God you could do this yeah every once in a while I still do that that is so dumb just really silly it's not like God doesn't know what to do do we seek and boy this is a big one do we seek money and more money and more money and how much is ever enough and what does it

really take to satisfy and how big does the house really need to be for us to be comfortable in it and you know some of you are living in more space now than you could use in the next 50 years and all you do is complain about having to clean it all the time and uh you know the flesh is just greedy and if we think we're going to get our satis action and joy out of things we are sadly mistaken let's look at Hebrews chapter 9:8 I take a little bit of a creative license

with this not making something out of it it's not by adding to the word or taking away but you know there's scriptures that you can get a lot of different views on if you look at them properly now this is talking about the old test Testament Tabernacle the outer Court the inner court and the most holy place and which really we're we're kind we're made like that you know we're a triart being we've got this body we've got the soul we've got the spirit so there's actually three parts to us too so looking at it

from that angle let me just read you this scripture by this the Holy Spirit points out that the way into the true holy of holies or you might say the way to really live in the spirit which is what we should all want is not yet thrown open as long as the farmer or the outer portion of the Tabernacle remains a recognized institution and is still standing anybody with me on that without me explaining it so here's what I want to take from that for this lesson tonight and I know there's other lessons you can

draw from that but as long as I'm still paying too much attention to this what I want what I think what I feel does everybody like me what do people think of me what are people saying about me me me me me me me me me then as long as I'm like that I can't really live in the spirit I can't really live in that place of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Ghost because I'm going to be so concerned about everything that's going on around me and what's happening to me and what

people are doing to me you know I'm I'm beginning to learn I feel like God's beginning to teach me instead of being so concerned about what people are doing to to you when they mistreat you you need to be more concerned about what they're doing to themselves when they mistreat you you know you're God's child and he loves you and he's going to protect you and we really need to feel sorry for people who judge and criticize the children of God because I don't believe that God will put up with it for very long he

wants us to pray for them so they can be forgiven and come to their senses but God is our Vindicator and we don't have to waste our time and energy trying to get them back or hate them or be mad at them it's just not even worth it to do that now we're going to take a few minutes to look at several scriptures in Ecclesiastes about Solomon and I think you'll see something interesting Ecclesiastes beginning in chapter 1 verse 16 all right now you you have to watch in here and Solomon of course was supposed

to be the wisest man man on Earth but somehow I think he got off base a little I entered into counsel with my own mind well that was his first mistake right there saying behold I have acquired great human wisdom now he's not saying Godly wisdom I've acquired great human wisdom yes more than all who have been over Jerusalem before me and my mind has had great experience of moral wisdom and scient ific knowledge and I gave my mind to know practical wisdom and to discern the character of Madness and Folly in which men seem

to find satisfaction I perceive that this also is a searching after the wind and a feeding on it for in much human wisdom is much vexation and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow now stick with me I said in my mind come now I will prove you with mirth and test you with pleasure you can have a good time enjoy every pleasure and this also was vanity emptiness and futility here's a guy who had everything he had access to everything that any of us could ever think that we would ever want he had access to

it and could have it at the snap of a finger and he tried it all that's the message of Ecclesiastes I tried it all and none of it worked it was all emptiness and futility and useless and like chasing after the wind and if you go all the way through ecclesiastics very end of the book he says after trying everything he said and this is the whole will of God that we know him that we follow him that we obey him that we love him you see it's all about him him him him and when

it is all all about him him him him then he takes care of me me me me good are you with me I said when it's about him him him him then he takes care of me me me me and you you you you I said in my mind come now and I so he did all that I said of laughter it's mad and of pleasure what does it accomplish now I know I'm stretching it by trying to read this many verses at one time but just stick with me I searched in my mind how

to cheer my body with wine at the same time keeping my mind and holding its course so I guess he was saying I tried to figure out how to get drunk and not get stupid I mean that's kind of what it looks to me like he's saying here now that would be the Joyce Meyer translation and uh well that's what he said I tried to figure out how to cheer my body with wine at the same time hold my mind steady on it scores and uh how to lay hold of folly till I might see

what was good for the sons of men to do under Heaven okay now this is what I'm really interested in I made great works I built myself houses I planted Vineyards I made for myself Gardens and Orchards and I planted in them all kinds of fruit trees I made for who myself pools of water from which to water the forest and to make the trees bud I bought men servant and Maid servant I had servant born in my house I had great possessions of herds and flocks more than anybody who had ever gone before me

and I also gathered for myself silver and gold from the treasury of kings and of the provinces and I got for myself singers and women singers and the Delights of the sons of men concubines very many I mean he had all the women that anybody could want and so I became great and I increased more than all who were before me in Jerusalem and my wisdom remained with me it was human wisdom not godly wisdom and stood by me two more verses left and whatever my eyes desired I kept not from them I withheld not

my heart from any pleasure for my heart rejoiced in my labor and this was my portion and reward for all this was my portion and reward for my toil here you go then I looked on all that my hands had done and the labor I had spent in doing it and behold all was vanity useless striving after the wind and feeding on it and there was no profit in it under the sun sounds to me like a guy who had wrong Pursuits and I don't know if he was on his deathbed yet or not but

let's just say that it is now time to lay the body down you know what if you don't want to have regrets later now listen to me if you don't want to have regrets later then you must do something about it now and I'll be honest with you if you don't remember one other thing that I said tonight yes remember that if you don't want to have regrets later then now is the time to take action not tomorrow not next year not when you feel like it not when it's convenient now is the time to

take action you know my story of how my father sexually abused me for many years at least I guess most of you do probably some of you don't horrible situation my mom didn't deal with it CU she was afraid of him and ruined my brother's life he died about N9 years ago or seven years ago I forget in an abandoned building out in California and his life was ruined and thank God for his grace and mercy and for giving me the kind of determination that he did I was able to press through that and thankfully

we were able to lead my dad to the Lord when he was 83 years old which is sad to have to wait that long and he did have he was better after that but you know what when my dad died nobody came but me and my kids had no friends nobody cared anything about him and I know he sat he had breathing problems and he was pretty crippled up and he had to spend a lot of time sitting in a chair and I cannot even imagine how much that man sat there and regret regretted what

he did to me and regretted what he did to my brother and regretted what he did to my mother all the times he would come home drunk and beat her up and all the the way he treated people and how he hated people and how he never developed any friendships he had no money Dave and I were having to take care of him toward the end and that just that really struck me that everybody really does have equal opportunity I know a lot of people think that they don't that you know they're born on the

wrong side of the track so they don't have a silver spoon in their mouth let me tell you something I don't know that anybody's got a silver spoon in their mouth even people that are born with money they have a whole different set of problems so let me tell you something I believe that anybody that will do what God asked you to do you can have the life that God wants you to have either the promises of God are for all of us or they're for none of us because God is no respector of persons

and God will give all of us what he knows that we can handle he doesn't give give us all what we want but he does give us all what's right for us yes and I do not want to come to the end of my life I will not come to the end of my life and look back and have nothing but regrets and so that means I have to invest now in the things that are right that I'm going to be happy with later on somebody give God a big praise wow so much left to

say and so little time now listen listen to how you pray sometimes and you learn a lot about yourself I was so selfish in the way I prayed oh my gosh it was terrible just terrible everything was about me and what I wanted and how Dave needed to change and my kids needed to change and you know everybody needed to change but me I was the only one that didn't need to change of course I felt like God began to challenge me to study the prayers that Jesus prayed and the prayers that Paul prayed and

man did I get an education oh my gosh do you know there's never one time that I can find maybe somebody else knows better but I can't find one place where Paul ever prayed for things I can't find one time where he ever prayed for anybody's problems to go away he did pray that they could endure them with joy instead of just telling them what we want all the time let let's learn how to really pray I mean Paul prayed that they would know how much God loves them you know why that's important because when

you know how much God loves you it takes you through anything and everything that's out there that comes against you it gives you boldness it gives you courage it gives you strength he prayed he prayed for himself that he would be found and known only in Christ and have no self-righteousness but only the righteousness that God gave and that he would be deeply and intimately acquainted with God he said my determined purpose is to know him and the power of his resurrection he prayed for people to make good choices and walking EXC I mean it's

it's all I wish I had time to just go through all of Paul's prayers but I don't have time to do that but they're really amazing I mean I I wrote them all down and I I keep these it's great to compare some times to well how am I praying now just cuz I really want to make sure that you're clear on this I am not in any way saying not to ask God for what you want but let me let me show you what I'm talking about here let's go to Matthew 7 verse 7

is anybody feeling maybe a little shift in your heart tonight like yeah maybe I need to maybe I need to get out in that boat and go a little deeper Matthew 7 verse 7 keep on asking and it will be given you keep on seeking and you will find keep on knocking reverently and the door will be opened for everyone who keeps on asking receives and he who keeps on seeking finds and to him who keeps on knocking the door will be open which man of there is you if his son asks for a loaf

of bread will give him a stone God saying I'll give you good things if he asks for a fish he's not going to hand him a serpent well if you then evil as you are know how to give good gifts to your children how much more will your father who's in heaven perfect as he is give good and advantageous things to those who keep on asking so he's he's saying God wants you to have good things get it God wants you to have good things please don't ever be afraid to ask God to give you

good things and to bless you but I don't think he's going to a different subject now he says so then so then means that we're still talking about the same thing ask and keep on asking keep and seek keep on seeking knock and keep on knocking God wants to give you good things so then rule number one whatever you desire that others would do to and for you even so do to and for them okay we'll take a break while you think that over how dare we want God to treat us so excellently if we're

treating other people [Music] poorly if fruit doesn't equal [Music] root then we become topheavy and we blow over in the first storm yeah if you think about a gigantic fruit tree out in an orchard heavily Laden with fruit huge branches although you can't see them there are Roots they say that go down however wide those branches are there are roots that go down that deep into the ground so it's got to be deep and wide not wide and no deep because when that's the case then we're just all carnal we're all stuff we're all just

things and we can't handle the difficulties in life we can't handle the storms of life we can't handle people who come against us because we're accustomed to getting everything we want the way we want it when we want it and when we don't we act like Opie did on that little video during our conference news where he wasn't getting to do what what he wanted and he just laid down the floor and had an absolute screaming fit do any of you as Christians ever have fits one lady I think no I think there's a few

more amen I think so you know my husband calm wonderful Dave he had a little minor fit the other day he asked me to take the Clippers and shave the back of his neck and I do that all the time so I did and then I I saw this these couple of wild hairs and I went in pursuit of those hairs now I'm going to tell the result of pursuing the wrong thing right here so the first time I was real careful but and I got one of them but I didn't get the other one

I thought oh I must need to get closer so see you already know what happened I took a chunk out of Dave's hair about that that wide well he got upset I said I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry it was a little funny but I said I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry and then he said if I did that to you you would have a f and so see that's big for Dave because he's he's normally pretty calm I had to apologize five times just to get him to say it was okay so I'm you

know just so you know Dave you can ridle him if you you press long enough but seriously what what are you going to want what am I going to want when it's time for me to go now think with me seriously about this when it's time for me to go what am I what am I going to want I'm going to want to know that I'm right with God come on now more than anything I'm going to want to have peace with God I want to know that I'm right I don't want to have any

fear of facing God when it comes to that point I I want to be ready to go and not have any fear and I'm going to want people around me that I know love me that's the only things that are really going to matter so if we spend too much time in this life and of course we have to spend some time on succeeding and we need to spend some time making money and we you know we do need to spend some time on those things it's not wrong to want a nice house it's not

wrong to want a nice car it's not wrong to want to provide for your kids but there's a difference in having a desire for those things and pursuing them the word seek s k is an extremely strong word and interestingly enough I I looked up the word seek and every place that used in the Old Testament it refers to seeking God every single place it's used in the Old Testament it refers to either seeking God or sometimes God was seeking people for something the word means to Crave to pursue to make sacrifices to get to

go after with all of your strength and all of your heart so you know we can tell a lot about ourselves and yes I'm going to ask you to go home and do a little homework and just have a little meeting with yourself just just a little short tiny meeting with yourself little inventory little soul searching this is good for all of us and just ask yourself what am I pursuing what am I seeking what is the most important thing to you what do you what do you spend most of your time on what do

you talk about the most what are you putting most of your energies into and you know I think that we would find that probably a good portion of it is just wrong it's just not it's not what God tells us to seek there's only actually a handful of things that I can find in the Bible that it says to seek we're to seek righteousness we're to seek God we're to seek the kingdom and I think there's there's four or five other things seek to walk in love but there's really not a big long list and

nowhere ever ever are we told to seek things and you might say well the most important thing to me is that my child gets saved well you know that yes praise God we want that but even that we're not told to seek desire that but that's not what we seek you're a little quiet I'm telling you I wanted more than anything for this ministry to grow well you know when you want something that bad there's some wrong motives involved and I think anybody who starts out and I think a lot of people who start out

in in Ministry even they're they're brokenhearted insecure people not everybody but it's amazing how God uses messes he uses people that are messed up and your mess can become your message if you'll if you'll let it but we we start out and you know I was I had insecurities so I was getting a lot of my worth and value out of what I was doing well when you're getting your worth and value out of what you're doing you don't want to do a little of anything you want to do a lot of everything because the

bigger something is the better you feel about yourself and like it or not in our society the bigger something is the more people admire you I wish it wasn't that way but it is the first thing everybody wants to know is how many people were there right how big is your church how many people does it SE and you know of course everybody you know there's different articles that come out well you know this is one of the five fastest growing churches in the world now this one's one of the 10 fastest growing churches in

the world I bet you God's got things hidden that are so big it would just blow our minds and they're just like we don't even know about it amen and yes we want to grow it's not I I don't want you to misunderstand me tonight I'm not saying that it's wrong to to have a desire for those things but the Bible teaches us if we will Delight ourselves in the Lord psalm 37:4 delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires and the secret petitions of your heart delight yourself in the Lord

let him be first in your life are Matthew 6:33 seek ye first the kingdom of God and His rightousness and all of these other things will be given you besides that's a much better way to do it seek the Lord and let God give you the stuff amen say Seek the Lord seek the Lord and let God give me the stuff let God now I believe even though you're sitting there looking extremely innocent I believe that you need this message tonight but you know there's a part of us that's afraid if we give up going

after what we want there's a part of us that's a little bit afraid we won't get it little tiny I see you guys up there little but you're going to see that all the bible really tells us to do is ask then leave it alone and tend to God's business we don't have to camp on top of it we don't have to harp on it we don't have to repeat the same phrase 25 times every day we just need to ask God tell him what we want ask and keep on asking the Bible says knock

and keep on knocking seeking keep on seeking not wrong to want something at all it's never wrong to want something you can ask God for anything you want but that's not what we should seek and pursue what I want and what I seek are two different things do you understand what I now I've worked hard at this ministry but now I know that my worth and identity is not tied up in it yes it would be hard for me if if something happened and I lost it naturally it would be hard but I know that

I would survive because even if I wasn't Joyce Meer would still be Joyce Meer amen and we have to understand those things otherwise what we're doing always becomes it becomes fearful to us that we might lose it and my goodness if we lose our position and if we lose our status and if we lose our favorite friends and if we lose our you know position in the community and if we if we're no longer in leadership at the church and whatever it is you know that we feel gives us status we just think we're not

going to be worth anything if we lose that and I'm going to tell you a little secret God loves you so much that if those things mean too much to you he will be happy to rip them out of your life and strip you bare and it will seem like a very violent thing and you will not know what in the world God is doing but when it's all over you'll be free free free free free come on give God a praise you know I wanted to walk in here and say this weekend we're going

to do a Deeper Life conference that's about the reaction I thought I'd get so that's exactly why I didn't do it but you know that's almost concerning to me because I don't even know today if a lot of people even know what that means you know years ago Pastor Tommy do you remember this they used to have Deeper Life conferences I mean there were whole kind people would just go all over the place to go to these Deeper Life conferences and they'd sit there the whole weekend and listen to preaching all day long day after

day after day about just what I'm trying to talk to you about tonight yeah the Deeper Life about not being shallow and let me tell you something we need to want more of that if we don't want more of that then we need to want more of that we need that so you know I've been a Christian for a pretty long time and I had a decent size Ministry not the size it was now but decent no real money problems all my kids saved husband saved got along good in my marriage and I wasn't really

happy I was still discontent something that just wasn't right on the inside do you ever wonder what is wrong with you and what it's going to take to make you happy come on does anybody ever I mean did you ever think well you know if I just can get this then I'll be happy and now you've got that you ain't any better off than you were before I mean be honest don't you ever wonder sometimes what is it really going to take to get me to the point where I can just get up and be

happy and go through the day and be content and go to bed at night and be happy and not always be looking for some new fix to give me a new thrill amen some of you are looking like a calf at a new gate out there like where are we going with this well you know when I started cry you know how we do God what is wrong in my life I don't know what's wrong in my life and you know truthfully we don't really want to know what's wrong in our life but cuz if

God tells us we're going to feel worse than we did before we ask but so you know what's wrong in my life and I mean the thing I heard in my heart was you're shallow well what's that [Applause] so it wasn't too long after that and I found myself in Luke Chapter 5 so let's go there shallow Christians wanting fruit but not caring about the roots they want to be used but they don't want to be prepared yeah some of those are worth writing down folks verse one now it occurred that while the people pressed

Upon Jesus to hear the message of God he was standing by the lake of janeret at the Sea of Galilee and he saw two boats drawn up by the lake but the fishermen had gone down from them and they were washing their Nets and getting into one of the boats the one that belonged to Simon Peter he requested him to draw away a little bit from the shore and then he sat down and continued to teach the people from the boat when he had stop speaking he said to Simon Peter put out into the deep

water you know deep is the opposite of shallow just thought I'd mention that put out into the deep water and lower your nets for a hall now a hall what is a Hall that's like back the dump truck up make it a big one and unload it in my driveway I'll be happy to haul it all in well you know when God's trying to deal with you about something you don't need a lot of explanation and so remembering that God had told me that I was shallow and here I am going after all this stuff

that I want and none of it's really happening and you know I got some things but I'm still not happy and and so then God tells me I'm shallow so now I'm reading this come on out into the deep and get ready for a haul Simon Peter answered now you have to understand this next verse or you miss the whole point of this Simon Peter answered Master we toiled all night we are exhausted we caught nothing in our Nets now just stop right there and don't keep reading you got to understand this when Jesus showed

up these guys have been fishing all night they didn't have all the electric stuff we do I mean when when they fished they worked and they didn't they caught nothing nothing nothing nothing I wonder how many people we've got listening to me right now that you feel like you have fished all night and caught nothing anybody know what I'm talking about come on now oh God I'm doing everything that I thought you told me to do and nothing's working and I just don't understand God what do you want me to do oh I know I

need to rebuke more Devils I need to pray more they were tired they had pulled the boats in they had drugg these big Nets out of the boat they had them up on the shore they were cleaning the Nets up because they knew they had to get some sleep and then go back out again I guess they were looking forward to going by Starbucks and getting a muffin and a cappuccino and really and going on H home hugging the wife and the kids and crawling up under the feather blanket and I don't know they probably

slept on a rock or some gravel or something I don't know but I'm sure they were looking forward to going home they were tired and probably hungry and Jesus said um go back out come on now would you have done it go back out only go way out go deeper [Music] and lower your nets and you'll catch more fish than you know what to do with today I want to talk to you about something that I feel is very important that makes our lives so so so much better and that's learning how to do what

I call doing life with God you know God never invited us just to have a religion he wants us to have a relationship with him Jesus didn't die so I could just be religious and go to church once a week read a little bit my Bible every day and then not think about him the rest of the time he wants to do life with us and he wants to be involved in everything that you do now this was so lifechanging for me when I discovered this over 45 years ago the Holy Spirit touched my life

and I really began a deep study of the word of God and the more I did the more I realize that God wants to be involved in everything thing that we do he wants to be part of it we should do everything that we do with him and for him in Acts 17:28 the Bible says in him we live and move and have our being as some of your own poets have said we are his offspring now think about that scripture in him we live and move and have our being what was the writer saying

basically he was saying saying we need to do life with God merely going to church and asking God to help us when we have a disaster is not his best plan for us he wants us to talk to him on and off all day long about anything whatever whatever we're doing praying for other people just stay in contact with him on a regular basis and you know God is never more than one thought away and I love that it's not like you have to be in some certain posture inside of a church building to talk

to God you can talk to him in the grocery store in the car in your home out of your home in the backyard God is everywhere and he is with you all the time I want you to think about that think about how close God is to you when Jesus left the father sent the Holy Spirit and he said he has been with you and he will now be in you if you are a Christian God lives in you he lives in you and so you should be doing everything that you do with the idea

in mind that you're doing it with him I lived the way I'm telling you not to live for a lot of years went to church on Sunday read one chapter a day in my Bible said a little prayer in the morning a little prayer at night and that was it that was my life with God unless we had some kind of a crisis and then we would pray about that crisis but I tell you when God touched my life and I realized that part of the reason why I was so unhappy was because I was

leaving him out of almost everything that I was doing it takes a while to form this habit that I'm talking about but it was so I remember that one of the first things that happened to me that like kind of opened my my eyes I was bowling one night and I wasn't bowling very good we were in a bowling league and I heard the Lord speak to me in my heart and say why don't you ask me to help you and I thought well you don't care about my bowling and he said I care about

everything you do see you can talk to God about everything not just things that you think are spiritual let me say it again you can talk to God about everything you can ask him to help you with everything that you do because he's concerned about you all the time wants to take care of you wants to be invited into everything that you do Revelation 3:16 Says so because you're lukewarm neither hot or cold I am about to spit you out of my mouth now I don't know for sure what that means but I do know

I don't want to find out I believe that God is saying All or Nothing I'd rather you go all the way with me or just do nothing at all rather than just be lukewarm you if you're really thirsty nobody wants a lukewarm glass of water if we're going to have a nice drink we want to either have a nice cold one or a nice hot one if you're a lukewarm Christian I'm going to ask you to stir yourself up and get on fire for God live your life with and for him don't make the mistake

of thinking that God is alive just to make you happy and do everything you want to do you're in relationship with him to do what he wants you to do to serve him to love him to include him in everything to be obedient to him to follow the leadership and the guidance of the Holy Spirit he's not just around so every time we have a crisis we can call on him and ask him to fix it Jesus is saying today give me your all and I believe that there's a lot of you that probably are

ready for that or maybe you didn't know I know you ready for it but that's what you need let's think about the word surrender who's watching today that's ready to surrender you're ready to lift up your hands and say God take all of me get involved in every area of my life are you living for yourself you know our greatest fear should not be failing but suc seeding at things that don't really matter I love that quote I don't want to just do something I want to do what God wants me to do life gets

exciting when you start doing it with God when you start living for him be honest with yourself today are you living for God are you just living praying that God will make everything you want work out the way you want it to you need to make a change and start asking God what do you want me to do I want to live for you show me what your will is Matthew 16:26 says what good will it be for someone to gain the whole world yet forfeit their soul or what can anyone give in exchange for

their soul no matter what you store up of material things in this life you can spend all your time getting money saving money climbing the ladder of success but none of that's worth anything if you lose your relationship with God he wants to have a relationship with you and relationships are all based on time you can be as close to God as you want to be it just depends on how much time you're willing to put into the relationship how much time are you putting into your relationship with God do you spend any time with

God in the morning before you take off on your day you should your day is going to go a whole lot better if you spend time with him first seek you first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all of these things will be added unto you put God first do life with God include him in everything that you do talk to him about everything you do the Bible says in Proverbs 3 acknowledge God in all your ways and he will direct your paths be not wise in your own eyes you know what I

believe that means to put it in simple language don't even think that you're smart enough to run your own life because you're not nothing in my life works if I don't ask God to get involved Jesus set apart from me you can do nothing and what he says he means now I might be able to do something but I'm not going to do it right and I'm not going to do it with joy because apart from him nothing works coloss iians 3:17 and 23 says and whatever you do whether in word or do or deed

do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks to God the Father through him whatever you do do it all in the name of Jesus and whatever you do work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord not for human Masters I love that you know you drive to work every day and maybe your attitude is I go to work to get a paycheck well how about saying God I'm doing this for you I'm going to work for you because I know you want me to be productive I want

to do this for you and I want to do this with you I want to glorify your name today I want to behave in a way today that's going to make you proud of me start including God in everything start talking to him more about anything and everything and you're going to like your life a whole lot better Psalm 1271 says unless the Lord builds the house they labor in vain that build it so see it's not saying that we can't build something without him but it says our labor is going to be in vain

because here's the bottom line if God's not involved you're not going to be satisfied with any outcome that you get unless the the Lord watches over the city the guards stand watch in vain no matter what we do if we don't do it with God it's not going to be of any value to us my life is so much different now that I've had all these years of doing life with God and not just going to church on Sunday and not really even thinking about him till the next Sunday I'm comfortable with God and you

might say what is it well I don't have this stiff rigid relationship with him I'm comfortable with God when I hang out with God it's kind of like putting on my most cozy jammies and sitting in my most comfortable chair I have reverential fear in allwe of God but I'm not afraid of God I know that he loves me and that he has a good plan for my life I never feel that I need to hide anything from him nothing is hidden from God anyway so it's foolish to think that it is he knows all

he sees all he knows things about us that we don't even know I talk to him openly about my sins my failures and my faults I don't feel that I have to hide anything from him I even appreciate God's correction in my life because I know now that he only corrects me because he loves me I can remember when God used to show me things that I was doing wrong or that he wanted to change and I would get all down about it because I thought oh another thing wrong with me but I don't feel

like that anymore now it's like thank you Lord for showing me that now I'm asking you to help me change it I can't even do that without you Proverbs 35-7 trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding stop trying to figure so many things out and just trust God and I mentioned this before in all your ways submit to him and he'll make your path straight talk to God about everything you know prayer is simply having a conversation with god it doesn't have to be eloquent it doesn't have

to be long you don't have to be in a certain place a powerful prayer can be three words I think sometimes we get too wordy trying to be eloquent a prayer only really need needs to be sincere and if it's sincerely coming out of your heart then it's a powerful prayer the prayer of the righteous man avails much and makes tremendous power available in his working Jesus prayed about everything he would slip off from his disciples he'd get up early in the morning he would walk away from crowds I would imagine when he felt weak

or he felt like he needed an answer for something he knew that he had to go to his father to get those answers Jesus said in John 5:30 by myself I can do nothing I judge only as I hear and my judgment is just for I seek not to please myself but to please him who sent me Proverbs 16:9 says a man's mind plans his way but the Lord directs his steps and makes them sure how difficult is it for God to change your mind if you've got a plan for today and boy this is

what you want to do this is what you're going to do and you start getting the sensing that God wants you to do something else but boy you really wanted to do this other thing and you don't particularly want to do the thing that God is asking you to do how important is it that you follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit Well it is extremely important how hard is it for God to change your mind are you pliable and moldable in the hands of God you know a madeup mind is valuable is valuable but

stubbornness is not a very good trait it's actually dangerous how do we know what God wants us to do he doesn't always give us a blueprint for the next month we walk with him Moment by moment day by day Romans 7:6 says but now we are discharged from the law thank God as New Covenant Believers we no longer have to follow the rituals the rules and regulations of the Old Testament law the moral law we still follow that's for all time but we don't have to go through all kinds of sacrifices and this and that

and something else to be pleasing to God we are discharged from the law and we've terminated made at all intercourse with it having died to what once restrained and held us captive now listen to this so now we serve not under obedience to the old code of written regulations but under obedience to the promptings of the holy spirit in newness of life oh that is so beautiful promptings what does that mean just a little touch from the Holy Spirit I think one of the main ways we hear from God is just a knowing deep in

our heart it's that still Small Voice that whisper from God it may not even come in words it's just a knowing you know that you shouldn't do the thing that you had planned because God is directing you to go in a new direction oh my goodness I tell you if you start being more obedient to to the promptings of the Holy Spirit one of the things I read as a definition for prompting is like to hold up a q card and I remember years ago when I first started teaching we didn't have all the fancy

equipment and TV cameras and clocks on the TV cameras and I wasn't very good about we had 60 Minute cassette tapes that they recorded on at the time and if I went over the 60 minutes then the people never heard the end of the message and I was really bad about running off those tapes and so they started giving me Q cards I had 15 minutes left I had 10 I had five 4 3 2 1 and boy when we got to that one minute I had to make a decision am I going to do

what I know I should do so when people buy these cassette tapes they're getting the whole message or am I just going to forget the prompt that I got and just do what I want to well that's the way a lot of people live their lives the holy spirit is prompting them to do this or that or something else but they're like n just going to live my own life Jesus came sent the Holy Spirit to be in close fellowship with us the Bible says talk to the Lord about everything you know he knows it

anyway but it does you good to talk to him about it we say sometimes to a friend thanks for listening I just needed to vent well you know what you can vent to the Lord you can tell him how you're feeling you can tell him how unfair you think things are just always end with but I Trust You Lord and I believe that you'll take care of everything Hebrews 4:13 nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight did you know that when you go inside your home and you do things people may not be

able to see but God still sees it's kind of an amazing thing to think about the fact that God sees everything that we do everything everything everything there's nothing hidden from God we can't hide Sin from him you might as well talk to him about it because he knows it anyway Proverbs 28:13 whoever conceals their sin does not Prosper but the one who confesses and renounces them finds Mercy there's so many scriptures in the Bible that talk about how God sees and knows everything that we do God is the source of everything I was sitting

the other morning just looking out my window and I thought everything in the world that's living Waits on God we wait on God to do things for us we wait on God for our provision we wait on God for wisdom to know what to do but you know the trees wait on God for water and sunshine every animal in the animal kingdom wait on God to provide food for them little birds wait on God provide that worm that they need or for somebody to throw some bread off their por Port porch or their deck everything

God is the source of all things and I think that's so beautiful everything needs him Psalm 100 verse4 says you enter into his gates with Thanksgiving you come into His courts with praise be thankful and say so that's one of the ways that you can do life with God is as you go through the day thank him for everything when you get home from work at night and you drove in traffic thank him that you got home without having an accident when you're on your way to your job thank God that you've got a job

maybe there's parts of your job that you're not crazy about but at least you've got one thank God for your home I thank God often for hot water I love to take a hot bath and I'm grateful for that as you do life with God thank him for every big and every tiny blessing stay in touch with God one of the ways you can do that is by being thankful in everything 1 Thessalonians 518 says give thanks in all circumstances for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus Psalm 9 verse1 I will give

thanks to you Lord with all my heart I will tell of all your wonderful Deeds Philippians 4:6 says we are to pray and ask God for what we want with Thanksgiving now let me finalize this teaching today by talking to you about something that's very important you know we have a tendency to divide what we think is secular and what we think is sacred into two parts I remember when I would feel really good about myself if I was sitting in church or in a Bible study reading the Bible or reading a Christian book but

all those other things I thought God wasn't interested in going to the grocery store the laundry and this and that and something else and it was a great day for me when I found out that if I do everything with God then everything I do becomes Sanctified and sacred you know God showed up to talk to Moses in a regular Bush and he set the Bush on fire with his his presence and he told Moses take your shoes off for the ground on which you stand as Holy Ground you see when God shows up anywhere

that place becomes holy so if you invite God to go to the grocery store with you your trip can become Sanctified and holy and that trip to the grocery store can be just as spiritual as going to church on Sunday morning now there are some things obviously that are more spiritually valuable to us than other things but I think it's very exciting to realize that I can clean my house with God and it becomes a Sanctified holy task it's not just cleaning house anymore it's something I'm doing for God the sacred secular divide is a
