hook retain reward I'm going to share with you the three-part framework that I didn't know I was using to produce Tik toks for myself and businesses that get hundreds of thousands of views now initially when I first started making Tik toks some pieces of content would only get a few hundred views While others got tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of views I didn't understand why however when I came across this framework from Alex heroi and when I looked back on my best performing videos I have now realized what I was doing at the
end of this video I'll demonstrate how pretty much every piece of content that has performed well has used this framework by reacting to both my videos and Alex hero's best performing Tik Tok hook retain reward let's start off with the hook now our goal with the hook is to stop the viewer from this repetitive motion of scrolling of watching degenerate content and we want them to watch our educational helpful piece of content so we're trying to redirect attention from whatever they're doing to us now it can be separated into the verbal hook what you say
and the visual hook What you Show and The Hook is super important the first 5 Seconds of your video super important when it comes to short form at least and here's three things you can do in your verbal aspect of the hook that could help you g no more attention so one we can be very very clear on what this video is going to be about so we can make a promise and how can we do that well we can use keywords that make the audience feel like we're talking to them and we can use
the word you when doing so so an example of these two techniques at play would be this video which I made on my personal Tik Tok and it got my dad 400 new subscribers from this one Tik Tok video on my channel so it was an ad for his channel ultimately on my Tik Tok and the hook was if you're doing NCA and taking math Stat or calculus here is a free resource so notice here there is U the word U or a variation of the word u is used and I tried to use keywords
so if you don't know what ntea is ntea is the curriculum of New Zealand most of New Zealand does NCA so if you're a student on the app and you see this video you probably think who yeah I do NCA and no one's ever made a video about that it's talking directly to me and yeah I obviously do take math stats and calculus and here is a free resource free being amazing keyword they feel like this video is made directly for them they are the ideal Target Avatar which which means they'll probably watch it so
using keywords and use the word you or a variation of it something else you can do at the start of your video to be very clear on what the video is about you can start off with the list lists work well an example here is three ways to get free money in New Zealand so three ways and again free money and in New Zealand again so you can see all these techniques coming to play they got 134,000 views all right now I'm going to share with you a couple other verbal hooks you can try that
I've seen people use I generally don't do this one but you can say something that doesn't quite make sense and then they have to watch the video to find out what I mean by what I just said for example if I start off a video by saying if you want to make more money you need to sell the vacation not the plane ride now if I just say that to you you probably are thinking what is he talking about unless you've watched my videos and you've come across this idea before but you have to kind
of watch the video for me to explain what it means if you haven't heard of this idea and if you scroll they'll feel slightly dissatisfied that maybe they missed out on a piece of wisdom that could help them make more money so that's what I've seen people use another thing you can do with a verb Hook is a bold or interesting statement just something outlandish a big a big promise a big claim outlandish fact and in this video which got 109,000 views I said listen $100 from the70s will barely get you an hour's worth of
parking in Oakland CBD today so this video was on inflation and in this video I explained how inflation is happening and that we need to multiply our money or or get more money in order to hedge against inflation so a bold or interesting statement works as well so that's the verbal hook in summary we can make a promise we can say something that doesn't make sense or we can do a bold or interesting statement so that's all what we're saying now if we go back to the hook and let's talk about the visual aspect what
we see which is almost which is pretty much as important I'd say from from what I've found out so what I try to do with the visual hook I try to share what the video is going to be about in text visually so they don't have to listen they can just see and immediately know it's for them for example this video I made it so that it was targeted at new zealanders I put the new zealan Emoji how text rates work so immediately you know what the video is going to be on the promise is
already there written in text they don't have to wait until the voice comes out another visual hook thing we can do is a landmark or at least something people recognize so this is the sky tower in Oakland New Zealand and most people in New Zealand actually would recognize that so this video did 949 th000 views and yeah again this video has text as well it has the New Zealand emoji and yeah landmarks work really well and it doesn't have to be a landmark of a building it could be a very popular website that people visit
and you can talk about the website so something people recognize and then another thing we can do with the visual Hook is we can sub communicate competence so if you're a boxing coach I help this boxing coach get 1.2 million views with this video we got 98,000 followers with just 12 videos we filmed in the boxing room because sub communicates that you know your stuff if you're a fitness coach I would if I was a fitness coach I'd kind of show off my muscle show off the gains because then people know that you've actually lived
it yourself and you can hopefully help them attain whatever their goals are so if you could sub communicate competence that's really good another visual hook thing we can do is talk about other people and when you talk about other people you'll ultimately leveraging their status using what they've accomplished and just talking about it to help us be to have a like a relationship with someone it's almost like introducing a common friend a mutual friend so this video I'm just starting out with this boxing coach and it got 22,000 views so we were talking about three
different boxing guards and we talked about the Philly shell with maywether all right so in summary the visual hook we can showcase what the video will be about in text we can show a landmark or at least something people recognize we can subc communicate competence and we can leverage other people's status so these are the two aspects of the hook the verbal as aspect and the visual aspect both super important I try to focus on both now after we've managed to get attention from someone we have to now retain it so how can we retain
attention so we can retain attention in steps lists or stories now I'm going to explain to you what I've been doing this entire video right so steps this three step framework this three-part framework I'm ultimately doing that to retain your attention hopefully so steps and lists and then stories uh I literally told you a story in the very beginning of how I don't understand this framework to kind of show its importance and in the retain section I also try to keep the promise so hook make the promise retain I try to fulfill the promise if
not if not you might get a lot of views initially because you got the attention but people would not associate your face with value which which is ultimately what we want so we have to deliver and overd deliver hopefully and something we can do with short form content because people's attention spans aren't great is to just change up the shot frequently maybe one shot I'm talking to on my disc right now sitting and the next 5 seconds after I talk to you I change shot maybe I'm in the garden next 5 Seconds boom maybe I'm
in a different building a fancy building so if you keep changing up the shot that also helps with retention now after we've retained everyone's attention we need to I try to give people a reward so a reward can as can be as simple as how does this relate to you how how can I make sure that you feel good for sticking around to the in for example if I have a boxing drill that I'm teaching at the in I might say so go out there and practice and I'm sure you'll be as good as May
with it in no time something like that it's a Feelgood statement it relates to the viewer what's the ultimate goal of this piece of content how can it improve their lives that's what I try to do in the reward all right and then now the call to action occasionally I don't do a call to action every time but when I do I always try to make it in alignment with their self-interest for example if I give a ton of value on the Tik Tok for more information you can check out our full YouTube video or
our blog post or or something that is in alignment with via self-interest because that's the only thing you can rely on people actually acting out on all right so in summary the framework is hook retain reward our goal is to get people's attention from whatever degenerate activity they're doing and we want them to focus on our amazing piece of content and then retain the attention using steps lists and stories and then reward giving them a bone for sticking to the end and then occasionally a call to action all right now what I'm going to do
now is I'm going to react to my best performing pieces of content and also Alex her Mo's best performing Tik Tok and then showcase to you how this framework applies to these pieces of content that has performed well so this video for me did $949,000 views and let's see whether or not it follows the hook retain reward framework that we just have been discussing and maybe you can try figuring out what aspects of this model it uses this is what a salary of $1 100,000 New Zealand looks like after Texas in New Zealand All right
so that was the hook this is what a salary of 100,000 New Zealand dollars look like so there's the promise you'll find out what you'll take home if you watch this video also I tried to use keywords we used the word New Zealand New Zealand Dollars yeah and in terms of what we did visually we did The Landmark thing right the sky tower boom and we had a Emoji of New Zealand flag and text on screen so we utilized both verbal and visual hooks to get attention now let's continue to see how we retained attention
first you need to pay income tax of $23,900 then ACC contributions of $1,390 and then lastly if you contribute 3% of your kiwi saver there will be $3,000 all right so as you can see we aain people by giving them like lists of deductions so they had to watch boom boom boom boom and then as you can see here we're getting into the reward where we deliver on the promise giving them the actual take home pay leaving you with a take home pay of $1,690 all right and that was the video hook retain reward it
follows the framework all right next video this video got us 1.2 million views so this was a video I filmed for a boxing coach the one that got 99.8k followers with just 12 videos let's get started hey guys this is how you breathe and boxing all right hook hey guys this is how you breathe in boxing that's the promise notice how I use the word you and in terms of the visual hook again we're in the boxing gym implying competence every punch okay you want to make a sign effect okay for me this is how
I make my sign effect okay so okay short and snappy sound okay so when you combo okay just sounds like that okay cool all right so retain the attention by delivering on our promise and we delivered it in a very funny way so people in the comments were like mine's is is is or B B B oros my tit is being like so so ultimately it we fulfilled on the promise and we did it in a funny way which was both educational and entertaining and let's see how we gave the reward at the end that
was the reward a cute smile with a laugh simple right last one we're going to watch Alex Mo's best performing Tik Tok 5.8 mil we're not too far off so hook retain reward let's see whether he follows this framework his own framework when I was single I actually ended up eating a Chipotle over 500 times right so that's a very interesting statement it's like what the heck when I was single I was e at Chipotle over 500 times like what the heck that's a lot of times that's a bold interesting statement right and I found
out only from my accountant when he looked at my financials again this is just a really weird interesting statement he was like is this mistake you eat 500 times a Chipotle I was like well it's lunch and dinner 10 times a week yeah that makes sense and I like Chipotle cuz I could get he was telling a story there he's using the story method for retaining our attention and then notice what he does now terms of breaking the ingredients down g of protein each sitting when I was trying to get as many calories in as
possible I would have two tortillas which were free each of those were 400 calories of Pop I would get a bag of chips which was 700 calories and then I would have a bowl that had double rice double beans double meat which would be a pause double so I'd go half and half chicken steak because you get like one and a half each time and then I'd be like actually you know what let's make it a double and then they would put another half and half and when they do that they usually give you like
a 3/4 3/4 so it end up being like a triple meat and then I would have Pico lettuce sour cream and I did that every day so notice that it was a list he was listing out all the ingredients so he told a story and gave a list so he did two techniques in order to maintain our attentions and it was just because it was cheaper for me than buying groceries so I did it that way and Sav me time there we go we got the payoff in the end why he did it it makes
sense for him because he saved more money than spending money on groceries and it saved him time so overall he did follow his hook retain reward framework that he taught us so thanks for watching I hope this hook retain reward framework has has helped you understand content better if you want to produce long form content all long form content usually is is hook retain reward micro level and then another hook retain reward and then another hook retain reward so you just string many hook retain rewards all together so this um this spreadsheet Google drawings thing
will be available in the the description as a PDF or a photo thanks for watching see you in the next one
