Life and Values The mysteries of will Our lives are something quite fascinating, because there is a rudder, which few people are aware of. Many people realize that our life has a rudder. It’s very common for us to find, at every moment, in our conversations, with the people we are close to, those speeches that say: “I can’t do it”.
“That’s what I can’t do”. “I can’t”. “I can’t handle it”.
“Oh, this is too hard”. Certainly, when we find this type of discourse, we realize that there is a great fragility of the individual, of the owner of the discourse, depending on what they intend to express. They almost always want to talk about their incapacity, their impossibility.
But, there is a preponderant factor, which I say again, which is the rudder of our actions. This rudder of everything we do is called will. Naturally, we are people with a will.
But there is one thing called good will and another, ill will. Sometimes, we are unwilling to do thing for ourselves, and certainly, at the level of human psychology, this represents a great paradox, because the thing we want the most is to grow, to evolve, to progress. But, at the same time, it seems that we are doing everything we can to ensure that this stage of evolution does not materialize, and then we leave with these empty, fragile speeches: “I’m not capable”, “I can’t do it”, “I just can’t”.
“I can’t handle it”. “I’ve done everything. I’ve tried everything”.
And we know that is not true, because if we had really tried, with good will, we would have succeeded. In truth, the will is a rudder, through whose action, the vessel of our life, our actions, are directed where we want. There are people who want to be pampered, to be seen as a poor thing, to be seen as someone who is always in need of a caress from others.
It’s not the best option, that’s not what should be the rule of our life. The rule of our life must be that of independence, that we know that we want and, when we know what we want, to move towards that goal. Let’s not have these unjustifiable justifications, that you are not capable, that you can’t do it.
Because when we say that, we have already established our incapacity, we have already established our defeat. It’s as if someone was going to take an exam, a test, a contest and said: “I know I’m not going to pass”. They have already determined that they don’t want to pass.
It’s different from that creature that says: “Despite everything, I’m going to do it”. I didn’t have a lot of time to study, I had little time to prepare myself, because I worked a lot, because I traveled, or for any other reason, but I will try, I will succeed. This state of mind in which creatures say: “I’ll make it”, has already given them an excellent background for them to achieve their life’s goals.
The will, my dear friend, is that wheel, through which we steer the vessel of our existence. In all the things we do, we only do it because we feel like it. When we do something unwillingly, it means it is without the good will.
But if we are doing something without having good will, then we are doing it will ill will. The will always exists, but it can be a will capable of making us grow or a will capable of throwing us to the ground. What is our life proposal?
Since will comes from the Latin: volere, volere that gave volition, the will to accomplish something. And from this volition, this desire to accomplish something, we are the responsible for our life, for the steps of our life, for the things we want to accomplish or not. Often, our discourse is of those who want to, but our practice is of those who don’t want to.
And often saying we don’t want to, our speech establishes what we really want. We’re presenting Life and Values We’re back presenting Life and Values When the creature says: “I’ve tried everything, certainly this is a posture of laziness, because no one has ever been able to do everything. We’ve done some things and of the things we’ve done, some had worked, some had not.
Jesus Christ was special in telling us that all things are possible for those who believe. We read this in the Evangelist Mark. And if everything is possible for those who believe, why is it possible?
Because that belief is amalgamated over the will. It’s based on the will. Everything is possible for those who have a will, we could say so.
Because when we really want something, we overcome problems. When we have the will, we overcome difficulties, when we want, we strive. This will is a catalytic element that drives the most impossible reactions within us.
That creature that said: “With this paralysis, I won’t be able to do it”. And then a physical therapist, a doctor, a friend arrives and says: “You will make it. You are capable”.
And they start doing the exercise, and they start showing that it’s possible. In the beginning, it hurts, it’s difficult, in the beginning… but the individual overcomes the difficulties. As we overcome our difficulties, everything becomes possible.
That’s why we saw Aleijadinho, with the deficiencies he had, become the excellent engineer of the Baroque. That’s why we saw the remarkable Helen Keller, blind, deaf, dumb, become a remarkable teacher of the blind, deaf and dumb, travel the world, give lectures. It’s because of that we find today the Olympics for the disabled, the Paralympics.
And we are stunned, excited to see what we see. And that’s why we see today creatures full of organic ailments doing real miracles, with the power of their will. When we have the will, the sky moves for us.
When we have the will, we drag the heaviest mountains and this will is the prodrome of faith, feeds our faith. And the Nazarene Master told us that if we had the faith the size of a mustard seed, which is considered one of the smallest grains in the world, we would be able to tell the mountains to move away and they would move away. These mountains are certainly not the mountains of granite, they are not the mountains of our geology, they are the mountains of the soul, the mountains of problems, of deficiencies.
And it’s for this reason that we are moved by our will. In the social world, when works are not done for the community, we say that political will is lacking. The will is identified in such a way in the accomplishments of life, that we start to use it popularly, without people realizing that they are enunciating a very great truth.
Political will is lacking in politicians, but political will is lacking in us. Sometimes, due to our domestic policy, we think that if we overcome certain problems, we will no longer have the comfort of this person, the pampering of that person. Sometimes, in our policy of social experience with our friends, we think that if we demonstrate our ability, people will no longer do it for us.
Our will needs to be associated with the guidance of Jesus Christ when He tells us that everything is possible to those who believe. Let us believe, from today, that it’s possible to get out of our deficiency, of our limitation, of our inner disorder. People with short memory who say: “Oh, I’m not able to remember”.
Don’t say that. It will be better to say: I will make efforts to remember. Because we will be working on the positive.
When I already guarantee that I won’t be able to do something, that I’ve tried everything, I’m condemning myself to failure. Our will is the helm of the vessel of our life. If the helmsmen is a good helmsmen, they will take the boat of their lives to the harbor of peace and fulfillment.
But if they are bad helmsmen, they will certainly throw the ship of their lives over the reefs, over the mountains, and their boats too, possibly, and if they don’t come to that, they will capsize in the raging waves. Will, volere, to want. Willing is power, says the popular brocade.
And that’s why, when we feel the need to want, why won’t we want good things, love and peace, so that everything else is completed in our existence?
