attention instantly right today we delve deep into the power of that silence uncovering moments when choosing not to speak says more than a thousand words ever could we're also going to pray a powerful prayer with you calling on God for divine guidance in mastering the art of Silence and Discerning when to speak and for him to bless you abundantly in the name of Jesus so watch until the end and open your heart to receive the blessings of this prayer today not only will we explore the compelling power of such silence but we'll also journey through seven vital insights showing that sometimes choosing not to speak can resonate more deeply than any Spoken Word number one the sacredness of Silence the Bible illustrates that there are moments when silence is more profound than any spoken word consider the story of Job he was a prosperous and righteous man yet in a short span of time he faced overwhelming tragedies losing both his wealth and his family but instead of an outpouring of grief job first embraced silence while job expressed himself through actions of mourning notably tearing his robe and shaving his head he chose to remain verbally restrained think about that how would you react to a situation like this then when he finally spoke in Job 1 verse 21 his words echoed deep Faith this is what he said the lord gave and the Lord has taken away blessed be the name of the Lord this reverent response reveals the depth of his relationship with God in a similar manner in Matthew 27 verse 14. in front of a man named pilate Jesus chose to be silent his silence was strong showing that he knew who he was and trusted his father's plan silence in the Bible is not just about being quiet it's about trust respect and knowing when words are not needed the holy spirit is often referred to as our counselor and plays an instrumental role in helping Believers to discern these pivotal moments of Silence John 14 26 I assures us but the helper the Holy Spirit whom the father will send in my name he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you this teaching encompasses More Than Just recalling Words it's about understanding when to employ silence as a powerful tool of communication the Holy Spirit blesses us with the gift of discernment in times of stress uncertainty or sheer Joy the spirit gently steers us towards holding back our words leading us to a reflective silence this is particularly crucial in situations where human wisdom is limited or where our emotions threaten to overtake rationality by yielding to the holy spirit's guidance we can avoid the pitfalls of rash decisions hurtful words or missed opportunities to witness God's work in Stillness also the Holy Spirit not only shows us when to choose silence but also empowers us to remain quiet especially when the world around us urges otherwise in moments of challenge or confusion guided silence stands as a powerful display of our steadfast faith and Reliance on God's Grand Design like Jesus who wisely remains silent before Pilate we with the spirit's help can recognize those pivotal times when our silence resonates More powerfully Than Words this reflects our deep trust honor and reverence for God's hand at work in our journey number two taming the tongue the Bible frequently cautions about the double-edged nature of our words in James 3 verses 5 to 6 the Bible tells us that words can be like a small fire that grows and burns a whole Forest even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things see how great a forest a little fire Kindles and the tongue is a fire a world of iniquity the tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of Nature and it is set on fire by hell this means that if we're not careful with our words they can cause a lot of trouble on the other hand words can also be used for good Jesus showed this by using words to help guide and heal people his kind and truthful words changed many lives so the Bible reminds us that words have the power to hurt or help and we must choose them wisely choosing words wisely isn't just about avoiding harm it's also about spreading love hope and understanding think about the many times we interact with others daily a single kind word can brighten someone's day or even change their life's Direction Proverbs 16 verse 24 says pleasant words are like a honeycomb sweetness to the soul and health to the bones just as honey brings sweetness our words can bring joy and healing to others every conversation offers an opportunity to uplift encourage and reflect God's love by leaning into the wisdom and guidance that the Bible offers about speech we can be beacons of light in the world making a positive impact one word at a time number three Discerning the times life often throws situations at us where we are caught between speaking our mind and holding our tongue the Bible in its profound wisdom guides Us in this aspect Ecclesiastes 3 verse 7 says a time to tear apart and a time to sow together a time to be silent and a time to speak this verse reminds us that there's a right time for everything even our words King Solomon who penned these words understood that life has its seasons just as there are moments when it's essential to voice our thoughts and stand up for what's right there are also times when silence is the best response by Discerning these moments we can better navigate situations with wisdom and Grace by taking cues from the Bible we learn the value of Discerning the right moment Jesus himself often chose moments of Silence especially when faced with accusers but he also knew when to speak truths that would Enlighten and guide similarly the Apostle Paul in his journeys knew when to preach fervently and when to quietly observe in his mission to draw people towards Christ both of these examples teach us the power of understanding the moment it's not just about the words we say but also knowing the right time to say them by seeking God's guidance and leaning into his wisdom we can better discern when our words can heal guide or uplift and when silence can offer the deeper understanding and peace that words sometimes cannot number four listening as an act of love true listening is about more than just hearing words it's deeply understanding what someone is trying to say and connecting with their feelings when we show someone we're really listening it can help us get closer to them and build trust in the Bible there's advice that we should always fully listen before we respond specifically Proverbs 18 verse 13 says he who answers a matter before he hears it it is folly and shame to him this means not only is it foolish to speak before we listen but we might make mistakes if we don't listen carefully first the story of the young boy Samuel in the Bible is a great example of listening with care he kept hearing someone calling him during the night with a little help he realized it was God's voice in first Samuel 3 verse 10. he responded with the words speak for your servant is listening this wasn't just about hearing Samuel was ready to understand and follow God's message we can learn from Samuel's story by truly listening whether to God or to the people around us we can better understand and connect with them number five embracing silence in a noisy world nowadays we're surrounded by so many sounds and noises there's always something buzzing ringing or beeping especially with all our gadgets and technology that we have but finding Quiet Moments is very important the Bible tells us about the value of being quiet and meditating in Psalm 46 verse 10 it says Be Still and know that I am God this verse reminds us that sometimes we need to step back from all the noise and spend some time with God Jesus even with all the work he did found time to be alone and pray in Luke 5 verse 16 the Bible says so he himself often withdrew Into the Wilderness and prayed this was Jesus's way of finding peace and connecting with his Heavenly Father for us it might be a quiet room or a peaceful spot in a park it's good to take breaks from the constant noise of Our Lives when we do this we can think more clearly feel refreshed and be closer to God be silent and Listen for God's words or instructions and how do you practice hearing God's voice in order to hear God's voice it often requires intentional Stillness and a receptive heart it begins with creating moments of Silence in our busy lives delving into the scriptures and spending time in prayer it's as simple as that as you read the Bible and meditate on its words you can ask God for understanding and guidance over time as you nurture this practice and seek his guidance you'll become more attuned to the gentle nudges Impressions or convictions that signify God's voice distinguishing it from the Myriad of other voices in our lives the key lies in patience persistence and a genuine desire to connect deeply with him number six the wisdom of thinking before speaking one of the most valuable lessons from the Bible is the importance of thinking before we speak Proverbs 21 verse 23 advises whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles this simple truth reminds us that words once spoken cannot be taken back and sometimes words spoken without thought can lead to problems or hurt feelings and for the married folks Among Us this guidance holds even greater significance being mindful of what we say especially to members of the opposite sex is a proactive step in safeguarding the sanctity of our marriage by guarding our words we not only protect our own Integrity but also the sacred Bond we share with our spouse it is a reality that sometimes we talk too much without even thinking of the consequences now there's the story of nabal and Abigail in 1st Samuel 2 chapter 5.
nabel had responded harshly to David's men without considering the consequences putting his entire household at risk however it was Abigail's wise and thoughtful words that prevented a disaster her ability to think before speaking saved many lives now listen to this taking a moment of silence to reflect before speaking can be a potent Shield against sin Solomon's wisdom in Proverbs 17 verse 28 tells us that even a fool when he keeps silent is considered wise also we see where James 1 verse 19 reminds us so then my beloved brethren let every man be swift to hear slow to speak slow to wrath this doesn't just imply patience but it underscores the virtue of restraint guiding us to refrain from speaking words that could spur anger malice or a host of other problems such restraint can effectively prevent misunderstandings judgments and most importantly the son of slander as you've probably heard me mention before gossip and slander not only harm the subjects of such talk but also damage the soul of the one who speaks them additionally unnecessary conflicts often arise from words spoken in haste or without reflection Jesus preached love understanding and patience values that resonate deeply when we consider our speech he taught us to turn the other cheek in Matthew 5 39. this is suggesting that in many situations a gentle or restrained response or even silence can be more beneficial than confrontation by actively choosing to think first and speak later we not only guard our souls as the proverb suggests but also cultivate an environment of peace and understanding reminiscent of the teachings of our Lord and savior and number seven the power of hidden plans in the Bible there's a recurring theme of leaders and Prophets keeping their plans and god-given Visions hidden until the right moment Proverbs 27 verse 1. reminds us do not boast about tomorrow for you do not know what a day may bring forth this proverb isn't just about the unpredictability of the future it's also about the wisdom of holding our plans close to our chest when Joseph shared his dreams with his brothers revealing that they would one day bow to him their jealousy was inflamed leading to betrayal we see this story in Genesis 37.
