I live with my wife in a house that's a little bit out in the country it's not super in the middle of nowhere or anything but the neighborhood is generally very quiet most people have several acres of land as well so our yard is pretty big we get a good amount of wildlife such as deer moving through as well last winter there was a cold stretch for a few days I remembered that it had snowed as well recently so there was lots of snow on the ground and it was pretty much Frozen one night my wife had gone to bed but I was staying up late watching sports on TV in the living room the living room is at the back of the house so there's a large window that looks out to the backyard so as I was sitting there on the couch I remembered that I looked out the window and thought that I saw something strange it was almost midnight but there was what appeared to be a man standing in the backyard he was a long ways away and standing next to a pine tree he also appeared to be looking in my direction and I could see that he was wearing a red short sleeve t-shirt this blew my mind because it was about 0° outside so way too cold to be dressed like that I went over to the window and looked out of it trying to make sense of what was going on our backyard at that point was not close to a neighbor's property plus the guy didn't look like any of the neighbors that lived nearby that I knew as I looked at him from the window he continued to look at me it seemed I was still very confused as to who he was or what he was doing he didn't seem cold at all the guy seemed unbothered by the low temperature outside or the snow I went over to the back door and I opened it the man was still there when I did I got cold from just opening the door and could feel the freezing air coming inside I yelled out to the man asking who he was the man didn't answer me though and I know he heard me but not long after this he turned and disappeared behind the pine tree there were more trees over there and it was really dark and he probably walked away but the trees were instructing my view I looked around for a few more minutes and then went back inside I watched TV for a while longer but not too long after this I was going to go to bed before doing so I looked out of the window into the backyard for a while I didn't see the guy and I figured that he was gone it was a pretty strange thing to say the least I mean why would some random guy be out in Z degree weather wearing just a T-shirt and sweatpants in my backyard I walked around to the front of the house to go upstairs however when I passed by a front window I noticed the guy again this time he was standing in the front yard he was towards the end of it almost in the street but he was in our yard I stopped and watched him to see what he would do he was just kind of standing around and it was really weird I was curious so I went over to the front door and opened it I called out to the man again asking why he was in our yard and what he was doing once more the man did not respond he looked right at me and then he started to walk through the snow in the yard right towards me I didn't know what he wanted but he was not communic communicating anything so I went back in and shut the door and locked it the man continued walking closer and closer I watched him from the window and eventually he made it to the front door and then tried opening it he tried several times I was so confused then he turned around and went to the driveway and walked down soon he made it back to the street and then walked down it and out of my sight I stayed up for a little while and looked around but the guy didn't come back after that I went to bed I haven't seen the guy since I still have no idea who he was where he came from or what he was doing it's very strange for random people to be walking around in our neighborhood because of how rural it is and I can't believe that guy didn't even seem cold I still wonder about it this happened almost 25 years ago back when I was 17 my younger brother who was 13 at the time and I were driving through Northern British Columbia making a long road trip to my aunt's house it was mid November and if you know the area you know how dark it gets up there the kind of Darkness where it feels like there's nothing beyond your headlights we were traveling through a place called Pine pass the road is so remote you can drive for hours without seeing another car building or gas station I don't usually like driving in the dark but poor planning had led us to leaving later than we had hoped it was around 11:00 p. m. and and I was exhausted from a long day of driving plus the snow which had started falling a while ago and it was getting to a point where the road could be dangerous my brother had already passed out in the passenger seat so I decided to pull off at a small turnout by the side of the road there was some tourist signage there but nothing much else I figured I'd take a quick nap before pushing on the rest of the way through the night I locked the doors reclined my seat and closed my eyes the next thing I remember I was suddenly awake I don't know what it was that snapped me out of my sleep maybe a noise or a feeling but I was wide awake and on alert I looked out the windshield but it was very dark and everything seemed quiet suddenly I heard in unison all my door handles being yanked at I could barely make out four or five men standing around my car all pulling at the door handles trying to get in I don't know if they saw I was awake or not but I panicked I don't remember thinking clearly just reacting without hesitation I slammed the car into drive and with one foot on the gas I peeled out of there I wasn't sure if I hit one of them or not and honestly I didn't care to check I was too scared to stop and hopefully I ran over a foot or something of one of them it was hard to tell in the snowy conditions but I don't believe I was followed I didn't stop until I got to my aunts house though pushing through the rest of the drive looking back I still don't know who those men were or what they wanted but because of how isolated and dark that stretch of road is I know they had to be bad people and they likely traveled that road often that part of the world is quiet desolate and isolated and I never drove that road at night again to this day it remains one of the most terrifying moments of my life this is something that happened way back when I was a kid it was sometime in the late 1990s and I think I was probably about 5 or 6 years old I remember that it was winter time and we got a bunch of snow in our city there was a park just a couple of blocks away from our house and we would go there all the time my sister who was 12 at the time went with me to the park to go sledding there's a pretty large Hill that was perfect for sledding and all the neighborhood kids would go there when it snowed the park also had a small skating rink and there was a Woods that was next to and behind the hill so we arrived at the sledding hill with our sleds I remember that there was quite a few other people there and it only got busier in the time that we were there my sister and I went up and down the hill sledding many times but it got harder and harder to do so with all the people in the way there were so many kids as well as parents and you could hardly slide down the hill without running into someone I remember feeling frustrated by it at one point my sister was at the bottom of the hill and I just made my way back up to the top I don't really know what I was thinking looking back but I went over to the other side at the top of the hill I looked into the woods there were lots of trees but I saw a path it was maybe a walking path during spring and summer months but right now there was snow everywhere I had the idea to slide down the hill on the path and into the woods it was narrow but my sled would have plenty of space to me it seemed better than how crowded the hill had become so I took my sled and I set it up and started sliding down I didn't think anyone else even noticed me going there the slide down was good just like the main spot for the hill towards the bottom though I nearly veered off and crashed into some trees I was able to control my sled just enough not to though then I remember that I slowed down and eventually came to a stop by now I was pretty much in the middle of the woods but I walked back on the path up the hill and then slid down it again the second time when I got to the bottom I remembered that out of nowhere I saw this guy come out of the woods he appeared from behind me and to the left I had no idea where he had come from and I hadn't even noticed him he was wearing a winter coat snow pants and a winter hat and then he walked to the front of my sled and grabbed the Rope then he started pulling the sled with me on it I was very confused he was also pulling my sled farther into the woods we went a little ways down before I decided I wanted to get off I remember asking the man to go back to the hill but he completely ignored me at that point I just got off the sled while the guy was still pulling it then I started running as fast as I could down the path back towards the hill at first I heard the man stop and then turn around I thought he was going to chase after me but he didn't he must have just stayed there while I continued to run run back I soon got back to the top of the hill and then I found my sister she asked me where my sled was and I told her what happened we went back and saw that my sled was still on the path but the man was nowhere in sight we went and got the sled and then went back on top of the hill then we went home many years later and I still remember that I wonder if that man was trying to kidnap me and I'm really glad that I got away from him I enjoyed taking solo camping trips as it's an easy way for me to just relax and chill I went into the mountains this past Christmas morning and set up my tent in a campsite near a pretty popular mountain range near my house I had zero Christmas plans so I thought I would go camping instead of sitting at home alone I also thought it would be an awesome time because I imagined there would be very little people at the site with me I was correct but surprised that I was actually the only person there everything was totally fine and I was enjoying myself I decided to call it an early night since I did a pretty large hike earlier and it wore me out at about 8:00 p.
m. I started to clean up everything and I got in my tent to get warm and settle down for the night I fell asleep very quickly at about 3:15 a. m.
I woke up to the zipper of my tent unzipping very slowly I'm a super light sleeper on these winter camping trips probably because my body unconsciously stays on guard when I go go out alone I also placed my head by the entrance of the tent for this very reason so I could hear someone attempting to enter my tent I woke up and immediately understood someone was coming into my tent I have a handgun I bring with me for protection but have never fired it outside of the shooting range never once have I been put in a situation where I needed to therefore my adrenaline immediately shot up I slowly grabbed my hand gun and faced it towards the entrance and decided to announce myself I yelled I have a gun and I will shoot you in 5 seconds if I don't hear you run off right now and leave me alone it was silent for about 3 seconds until I heard someone start running off I kept my handgun facing the entrance for another 10 minutes just waiting for any sort of movement at all I heard nothing so I decided to grab my phone and call the police they were around 20 minutes away from me so I sat there still in defensive mode waiting when the cops arrived I came out of the tent and announced I was the caller I gave them my story and they decided to look around in the area little not even 15 ft away from the campsite they found some dude trying to hide in a tree it didn't work very well because it was Winter and the tree was all bare it ended up being some dude who took mushrooms at another campsite nearby on one of the other sides of the mountain he had gotten lost after walking around and thought that my tent was his he was a younger guy in his 20s and I could tell he was pretty shaken up they were putting him in the back of the cop car and he yelled out at me man I'm sorry about that that was my bad the cops asked if I wanted to press any charges and I told the cops not to worry about it I was angry about it though still and even though this dude was lying about thinking my tent was his I knew he was harmless and he was just a dumb dude who was high regardless of if they were actually going to arrest him or not I packed up my stuff and I left the campsite there was no way I could have fallen asleep after getting a scare like that while solo camping in the middle of the winter several years ago we got a lot of snow at my house I live in a pretty standard neighborhood and I realized that I would have to shovel the driveway it mostly snowed in the afternoon into the early evening at night time I figured that I should go shovel the driveway so I wouldn't have to wake up early and do it in the morning my driveway is not too long but it will take a good 20 minutes to shovel it my garage is also attached to the house so I went into it got the shovel and then went out and began as I shoveled the driveway I had my headphones in and I listened to music to make the job go by easier before I knew it I was done and then I went back into the garage put my shovel away and went back inside by that point I'm guessing that it was 9:00 p. m. or so after going back inside I took my coat and everything off and then went into my bedroom it was right then when I heard another door close inside of my house I couldn't tell which door it was but instantly I was worried I knew nobody else was inside and I don't have any pets like dogs or cats that would somehow possibly close a door somebody was inside the house it seemed I left my bedroom and slowly walked to the other side of the house there were a few options of which door could have closed I didn't want to open any of them though but I told myself I had to I looked around the house to see if anything was out of place everything seemed normal just as I had it I walked all around the house and then I got around to opening several doors finally that were closed one was to my office and nobody was inside of it another was to the basement and I was really nervous to go down there however when I did I went down and saw that there was nobody in the basement either I searched up and down and I didn't really have much of anything down in the basement so I came back upstairs actually feeling a little bit better I was starting to convince myself that maybe it was just my imagination or something maybe I had heard something else that sounded like a door closing but it wasn't I really didn't know but it seemed as the I was alone in my house and since hearing that noise I hadn't heard anything else so I remember when I went back upstairs I went into my bedroom again for a while and watched TV sometime after that I was leaving my room when I was doing this I had a view out into the hallway and part of the living room area that's when I saw my coat closet door opening I realized at that moment that I never looked in the closet which also had a door that had been closed I froze where I was in the doorway of my bedroom then I saw a man walk out out of the closet right after getting out he stopped and he turned and looked at me I will never forget that moment and we both looked at each other he almost looked as surprised as I was to see him after like 2 seconds he turned and then he quickly walked to the front of the house towards the door then he opened my front door and went outside I walked over and I was sure to quickly lock the door I watched the man jogging out of my driveway and back onto the street I had never seen him before and was pretty sure that he was not a neighbor although I don't know all my neighbors yet the guy seemed fairly young had darkish hair but other than that I probably couldn't recognize him if I saw him today I called the police to report the Intruder then I looked around my house again including the coat closet where he was hiding I wasn't missing anything at first I was very confused and didn't know how it happened or what the guy wanted but I soon realized that the guy must have walked into my garage when I was shoveling and because I had my headphones in I didn't hear the guy my door from the garage to the house was unlocked so he could just walk right in it was still pretty bold of him to do so though maybe he was waiting for me to go to sleep and then would steal all my valuable stuff that's my best guess after that I've been more careful and nothing like that has happened it was around 3:30 in the morning one night over the past winter when I couldn't sleep so I DEC decided to go outside for a smoke the air was freezing the kind of cold that makes your breath visible and living on the East Coast it gets pretty close to 0° often we live in a small town not far from some woods I've seen someone before in the middle of the winter around this time of night and it was unsettling so last night as usual I looked around but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary no cars driving by no signs of life just the sounds of the wind and the crunch of snow beneath my boots when I stepped outside that's when I saw a sight which I had seen a couple of times since I began living at this house not far from the door just sitting there in the snow was a person they were wearing all black with a hood over their head so I couldn't see their face the person wasn't moving they were just sitting there in the middle of nowhere in the freezing cold I stood there for a second trying to make sense of it there's no reason for anyone to be out there our apartment complex is away from the main town and there aren't any homeless shelters nearby I didn't want to be out there with the person in the snow so I just went right back inside and locked the door behind me this isn't the first time something strange has happened here though last winter my husband and I were outside around midnight we used to walk around sometimes often to have a smoke we didn't think anything of it when we saw a man walking around the area he didn't seem out of place at first but when he disappeared behind a building and we continued walking we got this weird feeling then just like that he appeared again right around the corner of the building walking behind us now I could hear him getting closer his footsteps crunching in the snow we didn't wait to see what he was doing we turned around and went straight back inside as quickly as we could he didn't follow us but when we looked back through the window he was just sitting on a bench staring at us it was like he was waiting for us to come back outside but we didn't another time last winter I saw someone standing alone in the snow late at night it was snowing pretty hard and the person was just standing there looking like they weren't doing anything no movement no reason for being out there just standing still in the middle of a snowstorm there's a bench at the bus stop not far from where they were and I always thought that would be a more comfortable place to sit all these instances have felt strange and I don't even know if it's been the same person or not all these times I get that there are people who might live in the woods or even try to find shelter in abandoned buildings however we have never seen a person outside by our house in the summer only during the heavy winter months and only at night anyway so I'd be become accustomed to these multiple or one person standing around in the winter by our house but nothing else had ever happened however this particular night after seeing a person outside once again at 3:30 a.
m. I stepped back inside and went to my bedroom not even a minute later I heard a loud pounding knock at the door I went back near the front door and peaked out the window only to see the person still sitting out there in the same spot in the snow it had to have been them who knocked and I could see the footsteps from my door to where they were sitting in the snow we I just dismissed it and went back to bed and nothing else happened that night paired with the interactions and instances of seeing people in the middle of winter from previous years it was definitely an unsettling feeling that someone knocked on our door now in coming Winters I guess we will see if someone is standing around at night in the winter or if it escalates farther but the whole situation is Eerie to me a few years ago in the winter time I was at home it was night time and I had gotten home from work a few hours prior it was extremely cold well below freezing I was cozy though and on the couch in the living room with a heated blanket and some hot chocolate I was watching a movie and it was very relaxing however my relaxing night was interrupted out of nowhere I heard a knock on my front door I got up from the couch and walked over to the door when I got there I saw a man who looked very cold standing there he was not wearing a coat and I could see he appeared to be shivering still I did not recognize him I didn't really want to answer the door but for some reason I did I opened it and the man started talking immediately he said right away that he was sorry for knocking on my door so late and he didn't want to seem sketchy then he said that his girlfriend lived down the street and she had just kicked him out apparently he didn't have a car or a ride and was literally freezing so he came to my door the the guy told me that he already called his friend to pick him up but he couldn't stand to be outside anymore he was wondering if he could wait just inside my front door to get out of the cold I wish that I would have said no and I know it was stupid but I said yes I feel foolish about it I should have known better than to let a random man into my house at night but his story was very convincing and if I said no I would feel like a jerk I didn't want him to get hypothermia or frostbite out there because of me when I said yes at first the man seemed very grateful and nice he said that he wouldn't drag dirt into my house and would just stand right by the front door the whole time I stood a little ways away and asked him how far out his friend was the man told me maybe 5 to 10 minutes I felt better knowing that it shouldn't be very long for the next bit of time it was pretty awkward on one hand I had so many questions but on the other hand I didn't want to ask like why did his girlfriend kick him out and who exactly was his girlfriend I mean I knew some of my neighbors but I didn't really know most of them that well and did he live with her or was he just visiting I figured he didn't want to talk about that though so I tried to just make some small talk about the weather I said boy it's cold out there the man with a red Frozen looking face said I know with a small laugh then we just kind of stood there looking around he was mostly looking out the window towards the street and I was standing on the edge of the living room also looking out the window just hoping that his friend would get there soon then finally at last I saw headlights and a car coming down down the street the car then pulled over to the side of the road the man said that was his friend I felt a wave of relief come over me and I expected the man to leave my house finally and go back outside but he didn't he just kept standing there and watching the car that had already parked I wanted to say so you can leave my house now but I didn't a short time later and I heard someone approaching the door it must have been his friend but I didn't know why on Earth his friend would come to my door and that's when everything changed the man inside opened the door and then not one friend but two men entered my house I was very confused to say the least the three men then started to approach me I knew at that point that I had made a massive Mistake by letting this guy in my house one of the guys demanded my cell phone and asked where it was it was in my pocket but I said I didn't know where it was in a panic he yelled at me and another guy grabbed my arms then one of the men literally grabbed my phone from my pocket when they got my phone the guy sort of Let Me Go I'm not sure what they were planning to do but without hesitation I sprinted for the door I quickly ran out and left my house the men did not chase after me in fact after I made it out the door they closed the inner door and I heard them lock it I ran through the front yard and I sprinted for my next door neighbor's house I was just hoping that they would be home and awake and able to help me I ran all the way there and I didn't even feel cold from the adrenaline as I got to the door I loudly banged on it thankfully my neighbor answered pretty quickly and he recognized me me he let me inside and called the police I waited there for them to arrive and it took roughly 10 minutes when the cops got there though the men were gone their car was gone as well in my house several valuable items were stolen but overall it wasn't too messed up I was mostly just glad that I got out of there I gave my best description of the men and their car I'm not sure if they were ever found though it was last winter when I had an awful winter shopping trip experience I live in the UK and we had some really bad snow where I live I was off work at the time and realized around 8:00 p. m.
that I needed to get some cigarettes and other things from the shop with bad weather and the fact that I had not used my car all day my car was covered in ice and snow and it's just a short drive so I decided to just scrape off a small section of ice on each window and then be on my way a few minutes later I parked my car locked it and went into the shop it's one of those Corner shops and it's located on a Crossroads that take you to four different areas every now and then the shop had some really good deals so I looked around for a while what started as a trip to buy cigarettes turned into me having my hands totally full with snacks and stuff as I left the shop the shop assistant helped me open the door and usually he would help me to my car but he was just about to cash up and close for the night night I decided to make life easier and unlock the car from far away so I could just get straight in when you unlock my car and it's dark out all the lights switch on which at first I appreciated as the parking lot has no lights in it as I walked to my car I saw two men running up from the side of the crossroads towards the shop I thought nothing of it and I opened the driver's side door throwing my shopping Hall into the passenger seat out of the corner of my eye I saw someone run past me I just presumed it was one of the men who wanted to get into the shop away from the cold or get in before they close I got into my car and just as I was about to start it up I heard a knocking on the passenger window there was a middle-aged man at my passenger window with a huge grin on his face he was just staring at me he looked down and he saw that the door was unlocked and I reacted just in time to quickly hit the door lock button and start the car the man started hysterically laughing while pulling on the passenger door handle like it would open if he just kept trying at this point I knew I had to get out of there so I put my car into reverse and all I heard was a constant beep from my backup sensors saying something was in the way so I looked in my rearview mirror and through the small space I scraped on my back window I could see the other man standing right behind my car this was truly when Panic set in as I was totally blocked in the only way out of the parking space was to reverse I didn't want to get out of the car for fear of what they would do and I'd left my phone in the house since the shop was just a few minutes down the road as my mind raised to find a solution the man on the passenger side was was still trying the handles and had now started to bang on the Windows he seemed to get more and more Angry his eyes never left me the whole time and I was petrified he got a knife out of his pocket a massive kitchen knife and brandished it around as if to scare me I was hoping another car would pull in but with the weather being so bad most people were probably just staying at home the next thing I knew I heard a bang and I realized that the man had just kicked my side mirror off this all happen so quickly and at this point I thought I was going to do what I needed to get away even if it meant running one of them over so I put my car back into reverse and just went for it the man behind my car jumped out of the way as I turned the man with the knife then ended up standing in front of my car I thought I'm not about to let this knife wielding psycho stop me so I just aimed the car for him and drove forward he jumped out of the way as I raced back up the road to home since my car is pretty recognizable I decided to park a bit farther away from the house to make sure if I was followed they wouldn't be able to work out where I lived as I got out of my car and went to see if my side mirror was salvageable I also noticed that my front tire had been slashed with the knife and was totally flat I dread to think what would have happened if I had stayed there a minute longer and if he' slashed more tires or if I didn't lock the doors in time I still don't know what they wanted as with him damaging the car I don't think they wanted to carjack me I'm sure that when they saw my car light up signaling it was unlocked while I was still far away they thought they had an easy target all I know is that I'm more cautious now than ever and I unlocked my doors only when I'm right beside my car also I stayed away from that shop at night from then on this happened a couple of years ago in the wintertime it was a fairly nice day and it was a little bit warmer my husband and I live in a neighborhood with lots of houses in it however we all have nice fenced in backyards so I went out into our backyard to take our dog out I opened up the back door and I went out there with him and walked around there was still quite a bit of snow on the ground but it was now a good consistency for snowballs because of the warmer weather the backyard is not that big and I was standing kind of in the middle of it just watching my dog run around I remember that out of nowhere I saw a snowball come flying over the fence from our next door neighbor's backyard I looked over but the fence around our backyard is gray wood and about 7 ft tall so you can't see into the neighbor's yard s at all it seemed a little bit odd for a snowball to come flying over randomly then another snowball came flying over the fence sort of close to me and within a few seconds of that another one this one actually hit me I was very confused our next door neighbors there were a retired husband and wife and I didn't really think they would be out in their backyard throwing snowballs at me I walked over to the fence and I heard somebody walking in the snow but I couldn't look into the yard and see who it was I called out asking who was throwing the snowball balls but I didn't get a response it stopped though at that point so then I went back inside with my dog fast forward to later that evening I was taking the dog out again and it was now night time I walked outside to pick up after the dog when I got out there I was once again standing in the yard as our dog ran around about a minute later I saw a snowball come flying over the fence again in my direction it didn't hit me but was sort of close then another one came flying over and moments after that yet another I was really annoyed now and I yelled asking who was doing that of course I was ignored though this time though I decided to go next door and see I brought my dog back and then walked straight for the front door of the neighbors I brought my dog back in and then walked straight for the front door of the Neighbors when I knocked on their door the wife answered and I told her what was going on she seemed just as confused as I was she told her husband who said he hadn't seen anything in the backyard both of them then went outside and invited me to go into the back backyard with them they now seemed sort of concerned about it we went into the backyard and didn't see anybody however there were lots of footprints in the snow and stuff my neighbors said that they hadn't been back there since it snowed and were wondering who had been in the yard we could see basically the entire yard and nobody was there so I figured whoever it had been had left as we walked farther into the back though there was a shed in the back left corner of it all of a sudden the door to the shed opened and a man came running out of it it happened so so fast but the man went out of the shed and then ran to The Back Fence and jumped over it we all watched in disbelief when the man was out of sight I realized he was likely the one throwing snowballs at me my neighbors had no idea who he was the shed door had been left unlocked though after that they called the police and I went back home I'm not sure what else happened about the guy but I didn't get hit with any more snowballs that was a really crazy experience it was about 2 years ago during winter break when my friend and I had a sleepover at her house she has a hot tub and we decided to take a dip that night even though it was freezing out the snow had just started to fall and everything was quiet it was just the two of us and we thought it would be fun to relax in the hot tub for a bit before going to bed by 10: p. m.
