Windows has many internal features that few people know about, and most of them can be accessed through the command prompt. If your computer is slow, freezing, experiencing network errors, or even disk failures, there are specific commands you can run to check and fix these problems. I'll show you how to run each of these commands and, most importantly, how they work to get your system clean and running like new.
Sometimes what we need is to just press the right buttons, and today you will learn what those buttons are. So, you know: if you like the content, click the like button to strengthen it! And tell me here in the comments: has your PC ever crashed or has this never happened?
It's not worth lying, huh? Comment there! Remembering that all the commands I will leave in the description and in the first comment pinned to make it easier for you.
I'll also let you download this wallpaper, in case you want to put it on your machine. Knowing this, let's open the Windows command prompt here. Just click on the Start menu or on the search bar, type CMD, the command prompt will appear and we will run it as administrator.
Just click "yes" and let's get started with SFC /scannow. This is one of the most basic and, at the same time, powerful commands when it comes to keeping the system in order. It completely scans protected Windows files and replaces those that are corrupted or missing with correct versions that are already stored in the system cache.
This means that if your Windows started to blue screen, crash out of nowhere or crash after an update, this command could be the solution. So, just open the command prompt, as we did, type the command SFC /scannow as you see on your screen, and press Enter. Then, just wait for the process to finish, which may take a while depending on the speed of your PC.
Check it out: Windows Resource Protection didn't find any integrity violations. So, there are no problems on my machine, that's great! If he had found any problems, he would check and fix them all.
But sometimes SFC alone doesn't solve everything. That's where the DISM command comes in, another very powerful command. While SFC repairs specific files, DISM goes straight to the system image, fixing deeper flaws that may be making your computer difficult to function.
So, if your Windows is not working as it should, the DISM command will check and repair the system image. Once again, just type this entire command, press Enter, and just let the command work. It may take a while, but the results are really worth it.
So, relax and wait until it’s finished. Operation completed successfully. Then, all errors that were found were fixed using the DISM command.
Now, if your problem is related to the internet, such as difficulties connecting or an extremely slow connection, it could be a network problem. For this, there is a command called netsh winsock reset. I don't know if the pronunciation is very correct, my English is terrible, but that's the command you see on your screen.
This command is essential when your network settings have been changed by some program or even a virus, and you are having difficulty accessing the internet. With this command, you will reset the entire Winsock catalog, which defines how Windows accesses network resources. To use, just type the entire command here and press Enter.
Check it out: Winsock catalog successfully reset. Now it asks to restart the computer to complete this reset. In my case, I'm not going to restart the machine for now, because I still have a few more commands to pass on to you.
So, let's go! Another common situation that can occur are problems with the DNS, which is responsible for translating website addresses into IP addresses. When the DNS cache is corrupted, you may have several problems accessing some websites or browsing the internet stably.
To fix this, there is the ipconfig /flushdns command, which will clear the DNS cache, forcing Windows to fetch new information the next time it tries to access a website. So, type this command at the command prompt, press Enter, and that's it! This command is often effective when you face such problems, such as DNS errors or slow loading of web pages.
It's really worth using on your machine, because it certainly fixes several internet glitches. Now, if you're the type of person who likes to keep your programs up to date to avoid bugs and vulnerabilities, there's a very interesting command in Windows that you can use to update all the programs installed on your system at once. I'm talking about the winget upgrade --all command.
So, type this command, press Enter, and the command will check all programs on your PC to see if any of them have updates available. In my case, nine available updates were listed. To update all these programs at once, I will type the winget command again, however, now, I will put a space and add --all, so that it appears on your screen.
Did you enter the command? Just press Enter, and this tool will search for all update packages and install them all at once. You won't need to do anything other than wait for the update process.
This tool is really very practical and saves a lot of time, as you don't need to update each program manually. Really, just wait and it does everything automatically. Here on the channel, I even have a specific video showing all the other features of the winget command.
I highly recommend you see it. The link is on the card and also in the first pinned comment. Take a look at this video, because it’s really worth it!
And that's it, all the programs were updated here, and the only thing I needed to do was execute the command and wait until it finished. But don't worry, the video isn't over yet, there are some more crucial commands for the machine to work properly. To show you this next command, I'm going to switch here to another machine, because in this case, I'll need to restart the PC to show you how it works.
So, let's go! On the other machine, let's open CMD again, always running as administrator. And the command that is essential to keep the system in order is the chkdsk command.
If your PC is slowing down, freezing, or if you suspect that your HD or SSD may have a problem, running this command may be the solution to identifying and correcting errors that affect the disk's performance. However, the chkdsk command is not yet complete. We're going to add some parameters.
In the case of HDs, chkdsk is extremely useful for checking file system errors and finding bad sectors. So, when running the command with the /f /r parameter, it checks the disk for errors, tries to fix problems and isolates bad sectors, preventing the system from trying to use them again. This can be crucial to prevent data loss and improve computer stability.
So, if you still use a HD on your machine, just type the entire command at the prompt: chkdsk c: /f /r. Now, if you use SSD, the scenario is a little different. As the SSD does not have moving parts or physical sectors like HDs, the /r parameter, which searches for bad sectors, in this case, is not necessary.
On SSD, the chkdsk command is still useful for checking and fixing logical errors in the file system, but using the /r parameter can cause unnecessary wear and tear on the SSD, reducing its useful life without bringing any practical benefit. Therefore, the ideal is to use chkdsk on SSDs with just the /f parameter, which corrects file system errors without trying to repair physical sectors. You understand, right?
If you have a HD, you type this entire command here: chkdsk c: /f /r. If it's SSD, just remove the /r. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments and I will try to help you!
This command, in the case of SSD, is fast and effective to ensure that the file system works correctly without compromising the device's durability. Let's assume that in my case here I have a HD installed on the machine. I'm going to put the /r parameter, let's press Enter.
Look what will happen: it will tell me that it is not possible to execute the command because the volume is being used by another process. Do you want to schedule this volume to be scanned for the next time the system restarts? So, we're going to press the S key, symbolizing a "yes", we're going to press Enter, and now it's finished scheduling the scan.
To carry out this check, we will now restart the machine. Come on, restart your PC. It will ask you to ignore pressing a key, but we won't press any key, and it will start checking and correcting possible errors on the HD or SSD.
This process may take a while, especially if the HD has a lot of problems or has a large storage capacity. But the benefits to performance and data security are very significant. So, let the command run, let it do all the checking and correction until the end, don't interrupt the process.
Relax and wait! And while we wait, I ask that, if you're enjoying the content so far, click the like button to strengthen it and subscribe to the channel with the bell activated so you don't miss the next video! Verification complete!
It will restart the machine once again and enter Windows automatically. Continuing here on this same machine, another very important resource is the MRT command, which runs Microsoft's malicious software removal tool. This command is extremely useful when you suspect that malware may be causing problems on your computer, such as slowdowns, strange pop-ups or system crashes.
The MRT command completely scans the system and removes any malicious software it finds. To run MRT, you don't even need to open the command prompt. You can use it directly here in the Windows search menu.
Simply clicking on it and typing MRT. The application will appear, just click on it, on this screen click on "yes", and now just follow the tool's wizard. We click "next", and here you can choose between a quick, full or personalized scan, depending on the level of suspicion.
In my case, I will choose quick verification, just to speed up the process. Just click "next", and it will start scanning all of Windows. This command is a very useful tool, especially if your antivirus has not detected any threats, but you still think that something is wrong with the system.
But if you want to learn how to deeply remove all viruses from your PC, I recommend you watch this video here. I guarantee you will like it! The link is on the card and also in the first pinned comment.
That's it, no malicious programs were identified. Just click "finish". And last but not least, if the problem is RAM memory, that is, if your computer is freezing or experiencing errors that you suspect are linked to the hardware, we have the mdsched command.
This command will start a check of your RAM memory to detect errors. You just need to type the command here in the search bar: mdsched. "Windows Memory Diagnostics" will appear.
Just click on it, and here you can choose between restarting now and letting the system check memory or check for problems the next time you start your computer. I recommend that you always Reboot immediately to do the full check. So, just click here on "restart now and check for problems".
It will restart the machine and enter this tool screen. It's a very strange screen, but don't worry because that's how it is. Here, it will start doing all the checking, and if there is a problem with the RAM memory, it will show you.
And then, you can take the necessary measures, such as cleaning or replacing the defective module. Just like that! So, once again, wait until this check is complete, because it is a very important check for the proper functioning of your PC.
Now that you know how these commands can save your computer, I want to know: did you already know all these commands? Leave it in the comments if you've been through a situation in which one of these commands helped you, or if you have any other command to recommend, just leave it in the comments! So, comment to help people even more!
And of course, if you liked the content, click the like button to strengthen it and subscribe to the channel with the bell activated so you don't miss the next video, okay? If you want to continue learning more about how to optimize and take care of your PC, click on this video here where I show you the best programs to optimize and improve your PC's performance completely free of charge, or on this other one where I show you Microsoft's official CCleaner to let you the fastest PC. Click on any of them and I'll see you there.
Until later!
