The satisfaction of being with you, as I always say, is very good to do face-to-face activities. Even if they are recorded, that later go to social networks, but the fact of having people here, for a speaker it is a party, you have no idea, it is another level. It is very good to see you, it is very good to feel your reaction, the human contact between us, it is a tremendous lack, isn't it? We are all going out celebrating this return, what we always had and did not value at all. And now we begin to
realize the value it has. Well, today I invite you to a chat that I consider quite conducive to this time we live in, which is to talk about living and letting live. Let's go to our first screen. Living and letting live. Is it possible to live in harmony with those who think differently from us? There is a certain moment in history, and this is so cyclical and reiterative, where for some cultural reasons that impose themselves, things that in another period were obvious, now cease to be. There have been times in history when it was considered
that people being different was good. Today, people being different is bad. And the next day it is good again. We have almost a kind of cyclical temporal amnesia, as if they were seasonal amnesia, by being in history. And now we live one of these. We live a drama of living with the person who thinks differently from me. Does this necessarily have to be like this? If we stop to ask ourselves, we see that the answers are jumping. And they show us that there is something wrong with this reasoning. We are in a time of many
conflicts of opinion in the world, and here in Brazil, even. Many conflicts of opinion. Well, different opinions are one thing, conflict of opinion is another, very different. And that has made our lives hell, here between us. It has become complex, even in family terms, friendships, everything else has become complex, because of this sudden intolerance that arose on the horizon. And suddenly we no longer know how to live with those who think differently from us. What would we like? What would be the perfect world for someone like that? A world where everyone thinks the same? The
same? Would that be really good? How would a world be like that? It is a little of this reflection that I call your attention, so that we can have a chat today. I hope it is instructive and I hope we come with a philosophical spirit. What is the philosophical spirit? To come absolutely disarmed, without rigid opinions, and ready to see what will be put. What are the arguments that will come? Not to be convinced or to be convinced, but to come predisposed to understand what will be exposed. Then I see if it matches or not
with my personal posture. Right? All with a philosophical spirit, with the spirit of learning. Here we go. So the first thing we should consider. Would it be possible for humans to think all the same? Almost 8 billion beings thinking all the same? Has this ever happened in history? It is evident that this is not possible, unless we robotize the whole of humanity. And look, things like this are starting to happen. A massification, a mechanization, which in part seems to be robotic. But it would be a horrible thing. As if they were all cloned. A mental
clone. Everyone thinks exactly the same thing. 7 billion and so many people? No, it's not possible. It is evident that what we are looking for is an utopia. And even if it happened, would it be good? I ask you to imagine the following. Everyone thinking the same. First, where will that sharp edge come from, which will force everyone to rethink and grow? Why would someone grow if there is no friction? No difference. How would I move around the floor of this room, if there was no friction between my shoe and the floor? I would not
move. I would be skating in one place, right? Every movement, every displacement, is the result of a well-managed friction. A friction that at first is a straining between two surfaces, but then they support each other and propel each other, so that there can be a movement that is life itself. In terms of consciousness, it's the same thing. This illusory situation, everyone thinking the same, no one would grow. It would be hell. All the identical alienations, all the frustrated opinions, prejudiced opinions, all identical. Have you ever imagined how terrible it is? No one to point out,
Oops, this is wrong. No, everyone thinking the same. It would be the freezing of any possibility of maturing our consciousness. That is, this would not be a pleasant scenario. It would not be an idyllic scenario, quite the opposite, it would be hell. Another element that I draw your attention to, is to imagine. I, as a teacher, can imagine this quite easily. I arrive and there is an audience with which I have to work, in a class or a lecture. In this audience, everyone thinks differently from everyone else. I'll tell you, if these people are humble
and have a spirit of improvement, this is the best situation in the world for a teacher. Otherwise, we will grow in a mess with this group. Because everyone has something to teach and something to learn. If there is a spirit of learning, it is the best group that exists. Now imagine if I had to face an audience that everyone thinks the same. I would be afraid of this audience, honestly. Because this is a rigid block. Anything I presented as new, would be taken as an enemy. This is a block that has a conviction that it
owns the truth, that has no spirit of learning. So anything different I put, would be taken as an enemy, which is breaking the total hegemony of the group. That peace that is actually a peaceful peace, and not a peace where no one grows. So, if I have to choose a group where everyone thinks differently, as long as there is humility and spirit of learning, and a group where everyone thinks the same, frankly, I would prefer a group where everyone thinks differently a thousand times. This is a good group for you to work. Everyone will learn
from everyone and everyone will grow. This is a practically ideal learning situation. Let's continue making our reflections. Thought is a combination of external and internal factors. Imagine what I think. All that exists in my mind at this moment. Where did it come from? There are external factors, yes. Social thinking, family thinking, bombardment of information we receive from the media every day. These things are generating trends. The desire to be in fashion, to belong to a group, etc. It is very common in our society. Pay attention to this. Because it is one of the rules for
us to create a wise group. There are many groups that require the individuality of the citizen to be hung on the door for him to belong. If he does not agree with everything the group thinks, he is not accepted. Therefore, his individuality has to be hung on the door, otherwise you do not belong. And because of the need, the desire to belong, we often pay this price. Don't you see this happening? It is interesting that sometimes we have a much more intense vision when it is happening to another and not to us. We see, for
example, the teenager. As a teenager, he gives up a lot of things to belong to a group, to be accepted. And when you see him, he became one more within a small group. Everyone thinks the same, acts the same, dances the same, dresses the same, uses the same vocabulary. It's impressive. The need to be accepted and the expensive price paid for it. We look and say, how absurd! Don't we do the same? Without us realizing it? Don't we pay too expensive a price for acceptance in certain groups? I don't say you have to go there,
and obviously this lecture is exactly to say that you don't do that. You have to go there and get into a controversy with someone, or on the contrary, you have to agree with everything. You have to enter with the very diplomacy of a human being. But don't let yourself be massified. Don't let the groups you go through be simply determinant of what you will be. Remember something that I consider an important philosophical maxim. If there was a man in the history of humanity who was able to do something different, this potential exists in every human
being. Has anyone ever been able to think for himself in the midst of a mass that thought all the same? There has been. In philosophy, we like to talk about, for example, Giordano Bruno. In the middle of a Middle Ages, where it was not believed that the Earth was round, he not only believed that the Earth was round, but that there were other planets, perhaps some inhabited with other forms of life, seeking perfection like us. This was in the middle of the Middle Ages, in 1500, if anything. He was killed in 1600, in the fire.
A man who, at the expense of a massacring historical moment, was able to think for himself. This is not rare in history. There are several cases. Galileo Galilei himself was like that. Socrates, in ancient times, was like that. Great men who were able to think. Have you ever watched, some of you may have watched, that movie that talks about the trip of Columbus? 1492. Do you remember this movie? It's a beautiful movie. It is based on a book written by Christopher Columbus' son. And his son tells that at one point, the two were at the
seaside, and his father had a ball in his hand, something they played with. And he said, look, my son, look at the sea. Do you see that ship that is moving away? If the earth were flat, as everyone says, it would get very small, very small, until it became a dot. And it would disappear. But look, that's not what will happen. What will happen is that the hull will disappear first. Then the lower sails disappear. The last thing that disappears is that little sail up there. This is typical, and he took the ball he had
in his hand and showed it. It is typical of a ship that moves on a round surface. The lowest things disappear first. It is the highest point, the last one to disappear. You see? You will see people telling you that the earth is flat. But, learn to see and hear with your own eyes. Regardless of what everyone thinks. I think it's wonderful to teach this to a child. Learn to see and hear with your own eyes, with your own ears. Regardless of what everyone says. I've heard who was able to do that. Therefore, each of
us has this ability, has this possibility. So, the thought, if we stopped to close our eyes now, and see what exists in our mind, there is a lot that is cloned from the outside. Cloned, literal, without further work. A lot that we simply copied and pasted in our mental plan. If we stopped now to make a list of my main mental forms, and why I think like this, you would probably discover, I would discover, that most of these thoughts you simply copied and pasted because someone said. You have no justification to think like this. You
copied and pasted, because someone said, because someone thinks like this. These are the thoughts built from the outside. But there is also the possibility, we talked a little about men who thought for themselves, where does this thinking for oneself come from? From a thought that comes from within, it does not come from outside. That's another possibility I put here. Internal factors, a purpose of life. Who has a purpose of life, if it is a humanist purpose, even more. I mean, I want to reach justice, fraternity, that's wonderful. But as the popular saying goes, in a
land of the blind, the one who has an eye is a king. Who has a purpose, even if he is not a humanist, wants to be a very rich person, and is faithful to that purpose all the time, this already makes him think for himself, it does not go in the wave. He has an unusual ability to see solutions that no one has seen. So it is that sometimes if you build great fortunes for this, he is not obsessed, he is all the time looking at his goal. In a land where no one has any
goal, a person, even if his goals are not very noble, this already makes a big difference. That is, having a purpose of life is something sensational. If it is a humanist purpose, even more sensational. This will drag you to the fullness of the human condition. This generates thoughts that come from within, and not from outside. Thoughts that are your elaborations, built from your observation of life, are really yours. What you give to the world, you can renew. You can contribute something new to the world, you can make a difference. That's what we came to do
here, didn't we come to the world to make a difference? To be a sum factor? When you bring things from within, these things, when they arrive in the outside world, make a difference, they are a sum factor, and then you start to fulfill your role. What else? Universal values or not. My value is a financial value, I want to have more money than everyone else in the world. Well, if he is very obsessed, this will make a difference. Now, if they are universal values, that is, fraternity, kindness, good, wow, that makes an extraordinary difference. A
man like that makes history, simply writes history, changes the course of history. Who has a universal value as a goal. This creates, this is a factory, a laboratory of one's own thoughts. To have purposes, to have values, what else? Organize thought according to universal values, it is the best we can do. Do you remember that game we had when we were kids? It was a lot of wooden letters, in a box, each square was a letter. And we learned to put the words together, arranging those letters, right? We had a pattern, which was the word
house. I'll catch what's inside the word house. C, A, S, A again. I had a pattern to organize the pieces of the box. Our mind is like that little box, full of loose ideas, full of loose words. How do we organize these thoughts? You have to have a pattern to organize. In our case, in language, it was the Portuguese language. In life, your thoughts, what is the pattern that organizes your thought? I organize according to universal standards, I want to be a real, fulfilled, full human being. And it is because of this that I organize
my thought. This is what generates true reason. Did you know that? This is a classic definition, that the true reason is to organize your thoughts according to a universal standard. A universal criterion. Because it teaches you a new language. Just as you learned the Portuguese language by putting the letters in the right place, according to the standard of the Portuguese language, organizing your thoughts according to a universal standard of justice, of fraternity, teaches you to actually reason. Otherwise, you don't reason, you copy. And copying of other people's thoughts does not exercise the mind, it does
not generate expertise. Because we know that the exercise of the mind is giving us more and more expertise. A reasoning that is getting faster, more accurate. The true mental exercise is the exercise of creating your thoughts. According to standards that are not ready, that you are building. You know, this is something that is well known today. A short time ago, at the beginning of this year, I saw a magazine that reinforced this. That the index, they do by sampling, a universal index of average IQ of humanity. They do IQ tests with people from all over
the world, to see if in the 2020 decade, it was higher than 2010 or 2000. And you know that the human IQ has been falling. Do you know that? It has been falling. Isn't it curious? In a super technological era, it gives the impression that our IQ, of the average of humanity, must be turbining, it is not. Ah, but what about computers? Who knows how to make a computer? Half dozen. We are button pressers and checkers, mostly. Ah, because the flying ships, who knows how to make a flying ship? Half a dozen. Most of them
are increasingly accommodated, button pressers. Now, not even a checkbook signer is more, I'm very old-fashioned. Password printer. And look there, soon there will be something better. You don't need it either. I have to have a serious problem with my examples, because they fail. Until one day, I still had the habit of saying that when I had a brilliant idea, the sheet fell. People were looking like this. The sheet fell? What sheet? Where did this sheet fall? Then I realized that I was passing a slightly advanced age certificate. Well, that's it. Internal factors make us have
our own ideas. Organize thought according to universal standards. And your thought is built by one thing or another. Either it is cloned from the outside or it is built from the inside. A person who builds his own thoughts, he has a spirit that is very interesting, a desire to exchange figures. My grandmother would say that he has the carpenter animal. She loved this carpenter animal. The carpenter animal is useful for a thousand and one purposes. One of them is to tell everyone the new ideas you had. And to hear the news that others also generated.
Because you want to grow, you have the spirit of expansion. Therefore, a person who has his own ideas is a communicator. She likes to share, she likes to move on. There is a phrase by Calil Gibran that says that we are enrichment posts of the gifts of life. That is, life gives me a lot of elements, I think, reflect, I come to conclusions and put them back in the course of life. For others to receive, add and put more things, a person who thinks from inside out, is not frozen in ready-made ideas. You can be
sure. The true thinkers are not frozen in ready-made ideas. They are very fluid and very flexible, and crazy to learn new things. They truly have the legitimate expression of the carpenter animal inside them. The desire to expand. What else do we have here? We are a mixture of one type of thought and the other. We are absolute. This manifested world has nothing absolute. A 100% good thing would no longer be in the world. Because the world is a mixture of light and darkness, light and dark. It would no longer be here. You can say that
there is something that predominates light over shadow. There is something that predominates fraternity over selfishness. But 100% fraternal or 100% selfish does not give. This is not an absolute world. It would have nothing to do here. Because this, according to the oriental tradition, is an experience field for us to make light, to be victorious over darkness. When victory is total, there is nothing else to do here. We would have nothing else to be here. So we are a mixture of these two types of thinking. And it is interesting to realize which predominates, which gives the
tonic of our life. The decisions I make are based on thoughts that come from within or from outside. The fundamental things in my life, I decide from what comes from within or from outside. There is no more interesting experience than when a child learns to move a machine. You teach her. She is a photographic machine, a child. And see her emotion, having taken the first photograph. I learned to move, how cool! And that same emotion should be inside us when we have our own idea. I learned to see it in a totally different way. This
child who loves the new, who loves learning, still exists inside us. When we start to have this type of joy, this type of satisfaction, it is a sign that the thought that comes from within is predominating in you. And this is excellent news. So, when the inner thought predominates, I usually respect the path of fulfillment that the other is walking. Quite the opposite. If the other thinks differently from me, I don't want to get in the way. I want to go after him to see what he is seeing. What is he seeing? There is an
Indian story. I know you know me. Everyone here already knows something of ours on YouTube, right? So you must know that I am a great storyteller. And there is a story that I really like. An Indian story. It says that there was a master, who was walking one day, he was an Indian master, a mendicant monk, who was mending his rice, mending his rice, and teaching, passing his teachings and learning too. And this mendicant monk, he was walking through a forest, and he saw a stone thrown on the ground that seemed different. Although it was
quite dirty, it had a lot of shine. The stone was interesting. He put it in his bag and took it. One day he kept walking and slept at the gates of a city. To continue, the next day he intended to enter this city, give his teachings and leave, as he always did. Mend his rice and leave. In the middle of the night, a man comes running to him. Master, what did you want, my son? I had a dream, where Shiva told me that you have with you the most precious diamond in the world. And if
I could, if you gave me this diamond, I would become the richest man in the world. I came running here to ask for this diamond. Master said, Diamond? It can only be that stone I found in the middle of the way. There is a way to diamond, that someone lost, it looks like a diamond by the shine. Okay, I have something like that in my bag, take it. How wonderful, Master, thank you very much. And he ran, jumping with his diamond. Then the master sleeps, the next day he is packing his things to leave. There
comes the man again. Master, Master, wait a minute, I have to talk to you. What is it, my son? You didn't come to ask me for anything. Because the only thing that had any value, I already gave you yesterday. What do you want? No, you're fooling me. You have something that has much more value than what you gave me yesterday. You gave me a diamond yesterday. I want the virtue that allowed you to give up this diamond with that tranquility. Give me that. That's what I want. I find it interesting when we realize the value
that these things have that are inside us, that there is nothing on the outside that compares. This inner thought, these elaborations of ours, this lucid, luminous vision about life, there is no diamond on earth that is worth more than that. And we start to have these things, and treasure them. And we usually respect those who are chasing to build their own diamonds. They go on the trail. Like this man went on the master's trail to be able to conquer the real diamond he had discovered. Real diamond. If someone thinks differently, I want to know. Unless
he's seeing something I don't see. It's another angle for my prism. It's another angle through which I see the brightness of life. Who thinks differently is highly interesting to me. Those who predominate the inner thought, like those who think differently. Summarizing the opera. Those who predominate the external thought, are intolerant and owners of the truth. And see how interesting. Those who predominate the external thought, they are massified. And those who think differently are minorities. They have the horror of minorities. Minority bothers, breaks the comfort. In several of my lectures, I talk about a phrase of
a current American writer, Steven Pressfield. He says the following. There is a tacit agreement to remain immersed in the mud together. When someone reacts, he is taken as a traitor. Therefore, those who think in a mass way, when someone starts to think differently, it is uncomfortable. Because it shows that it is possible to think differently. This breaks everyone's comfort. I always give the example of that moment when we were in school, and you decided to study for the exam and get a good grade. And your classmates wanted to hit you. Why? Everyone got zero. If
you also took it, it was the teacher's fault. The whole class taking zero, it was the teacher's fault. But you took a grade and exposed the whole group, who showed that you could take a grade. And your classmates wanted to hit you. Isn't that right? It's more or less like that. Those who think, those who predominate the thought coming from outside, hate people with individuality. There is a natural rejection. Anyone who has their own ideas, who has originality, for him it is a risk, it is an enemy, it is an inconvenience. So I say this
so that you can realize within yourselves, so that I can realize within myself. I include myself in this, we are on the same boat. So that we remember the biblical phrase, through our works I will know you. Take a look at the feelings we feel before the new. Take a look at the feeling you get when you meet someone whose thought is different. What feeling does it give? Look, if you get that feeling of why this citizen is not quiet and thinks the same thing as everyone else, be careful, you are being a slave of
external mental forms. This is a good indicator, a good thermometer, for us to realize and reverse this game. Continuing... Imagine that humanity has a common goal, like a pyramid. Also a very reiterative example, which I use a lot. Each of us is a face of a pyramid, a pyramid with infinite faces. But as we grow up by our face, we are approaching a common apex, because the pyramid at the top is a single point. Isn't that right? So when we grow up, each one according to their face, we get closer to each other. We understand
each other better, because we are getting closer and closer to a point where everyone unites. When we start to find the thought of others unpleasant, this is a sign that you are going up or down the pyramid. When you go down, you move away from the other faces. Isn't that right? When you go down, you move away. So there is the strangeness. When you go up, you get closer. So there is the understanding. If every time for me the thought of others is stranger, I will change the word. Thank you very much. If every time
for me the thought of others is stranger, this is a sign of what? A sign that I am going down the pyramid. This is geometry, people. Don't fight with me. Geometry is spatial. If it is conflicting, it is because it is moving away. If it is moving away, it is because it is going down. It is obvious, isn't it? You can't argue against facts, there are no arguments. So stay tuned for that too. It's a good observation. It's a good observation. Intolerance can be a sign of stagnation or going down. It's a good sign. I'm
standing or I'm going down. And then I become intolerant. It's good to observe what these symptoms indicate. It's not like that we discover a disease. Look at the symptoms. Then comes the diagnosis. If you are intolerant, look at the symptoms. Then run after the diagnosis. What else do we have here? Mental forms of one who thinks he owns the truth. Of one who thinks thoughts from outside. Mental forms of one who does not know how to live with. What are they? Stop to see how this is common in our historical moment. It's almost the logic
of the day. I am the owner of the truth. Does your life endorse this? Did you only have hits? Everything you did worked? Because the owner of the truth was only to do what is true. You never, as it is popularly said, broke your face? You never got cold? You never went through the pipe and then had the trouble to get out through the pipe on the other side? So you're not so much the owner of the truth. Ask yourself if suddenly the other can not be giving a good and valid tip. In other words,
there were no advice back there that if followed, we would have avoided many pains? There were no people back there who told me things? If I had given attention, I would have saved myself from much suffering? This person was seeing better than me. If I had been more tolerant in life, I would have suffered less. If I had considered more the opinion of others, I would have suffered less. Isn't that right? It's very interesting to observe. Therefore, the feeling of being the owner of the truth is the root, is the basis of all kinds of
sectarianism, of all kinds of loss of time, energy, life. OK? Have we resolved in relation to sound, light, image, everything? Or are we living a conflict here? Oba! Conflict! Another symptom of who is intolerant, does not know how to accept the thought of others. The group to which I belong is the owner of the truth. Cool, right? So, the group to which I belong, from a political point of view, from a religious point of view, from a point of view, whatever, is the owner of the truth. Well, if he is the owner of the truth,
he does not commit any kind of mistake. Nothing, at no time, does he even make a mistake. Because if he has the truth, he has the truth. And does he make mistakes? This group to which I belong is tolerant with everyone? Respects the thoughts of others? Knows how to promote well for those who think differently from him? Or just cares about his members? Every time a group is very rigid, very solid, just works for those who integrate it, keep an eye on it, because goodness is universal. Goodness is universal. I work only for my own.
Keep an eye on it. This is probably not a very good expression of truth. Because truth is also universal. I work even for the last human being, whose name I do not even suspect, what lives and I have no idea where. But I am committed to him. And if there is a small group that isolates half a dozen citizens and says, we have the truth and I work for those who have the truth, keep an eye on it. It may be a group with very good intentions, but in what it thinks that way, it loses
its reason. And loses its condition of a follower of the truth. And if he is not a follower of the truth, it is a sign that he has things to learn. And these things will come from outside. As it always happens. So, why does someone act in the name of goodness and is so aggressive with others? Promotes acts so far from what is beautiful? Once again the biblical phrase, by your works I will know you. A group that promotes any kind of discrimination, sectarianism, cannot be the owner of the truth. Obvious. Are you listening well?
So, calm down. Less a thing, less a need, as Socrates would say. Socrates walked around the market every day, just to see the amount of things he did not need. I just found out one. Very good thing. Continuing. I have nothing to learn from anyone. A thought of an intolerant person. You have nothing to learn from anyone, so you are a perfect person. Perfect. Because everything you needed to learn is already inside you. There is nothing that comes from outside that benefits you. You are a perfect person. But look how curious. Because in history there
were imperfect people, but very good. Do you agree with me? Unfortunately, they are not the majority, but there were very good people in history. What did these people think? The best people who lived on this planet were humble, and they were always wanting to learn. If you are very good, you should not be like them. There is something strange in all this goodness. Because the best humans who have ever stepped on this planet were humble, and they wanted to learn from the other all the time. And they had an impetus for understanding the other out
of the ordinary. All were like that. There is a deity, I think I put Odin's myth here. It is a Scandinavian god. Odin, for the Scandinavian myth, was like Zeus for the Greeks. He was the best. He was the head of Asgard, the king of the other world. He was the greatest of the gods. But Odin was a curious guy. He walked around the world with a hat to hide, because he did not have one of the eyes, so as not to be recognized. He asked everything to everyone. He was a wanderer. He walked the
streets, on the earth, hidden, to look like an ordinary man. With a big hat, hiding one of the eyes. Asking everything to everyone, because he had a great spirit of learning. Now imagine what a culture, a civilization, that considers a being that does this, as the greatest of the gods. Try to put yourself mentally in this place. My god, the god of my religious tradition, is a god who asks everything to everyone and is always wanting to learn. And he is the greatest there is for me. Isn't that curious? It's a mentality. The mentality. And
the good one is the one who is open to learning. The majoral is the one who is even more open. Odin was, among other things, a great curious. Always wanting to learn. And learn from whoever it was. Whoever came in his way. He believed that there was not a single being that was totally distributed. This was Odin. We need to call Odin to give some advice to our current humanity. There was not a single being that was totally distributed. So he went out asking everything to everyone. And collecting the answers. Let's consider some sentences. I
ask you to choose which one you think is more worthy of a human being. To be pronounced by a human being in the fullness of the human condition. Watch carefully. Sometimes I draw attention, be philosophers, listen to the words people are saying. Listen to what is in fashion, listen to what others are saying. And ask yourself. Is this, which is such a common phrase, a typical phrase of a real human being? Is this what you would expect from a real human being? I remember that once I was in a situation on the street, and I
heard a group talking, and one of the people said, If you mess with me, I'll turn into an animal. And so proud of that, with a stifled chest, If you mess with me, I'll turn into an animal. I said, people, it's too easy to turn into an animal. I want to see a human being. Turn into an animal, I'll give you a higher score. It's too easy to turn into an animal, because you're proud of it, with a stifled chest. So it's good, it's excellent to be a philosopher. And this has to do with the
characteristics of philosophy. You're always questioning yourself. Oops, you went through my auditory field. Is this human? Would there be a way to improve this? To be worthy of being said by the human being, that I imagine, by an ideal human being, by a reference. Let's take a look at these sentences here, and see what you think. First of them, You believe in such a thing, and I don't. You believe in such a thing, and I don't believe in it. So I don't respect you. Imagine someone saying that. Very common. On the other hand, someone saying,
I don't know what you believe in, but whatever it is, I respect you. Someone saying, I don't know what your political preference is, what your religion is, but whatever it is, I respect you. What do you think of someone who says something like that, and you sign below? Isn't it a human being for us to clap? Why don't we say? Notice. Of course, I'm putting here situations that have nothing to do with idolatry, criminal, whatever the other thinks, the other thinks that killing everyone is good, no, not there. I'm talking about normal situations, normal choices
in life. I don't know what your choices are, but look, you can talk, whatever it is, I respect you. What a great human being! This is a reference, it has nothing to do with intolerance. What else? First sentence. You think like that? How absurd! Can't you see you're wrong? Is that what you think? It's totally wrong. Another possibility. You think like that? How different! Could you explain to me the basis of your belief? Based on what do you think like that? Who knows, I agree. Let me see what the basis of your thinking is. Explain
to me. You think like that? How different! Explain to me why. I want to understand. I agree with you. Today we do the opposite. When you suspect you will agree, you don't believe. When you suspect you will agree, you don't want to hear anymore, because you don't want to change. Isn't that so? There are certain people, throughout all these years, I'm here, with my 33 years as a teacher, well lived, there are certain people, when you start to say something, sometimes, stop, I don't want to hear it. This will force me to change, and I'm
fine the way I am. I've been through this, people, I'm being serious with you, I've heard this. Don't tell me anything else, because this will force me to change, and I'm fine the way I am. It's strong, right? It's strong. But when you don't speak, sometimes you think. You're taking a philosophy course with us, and you hear something, I'm going there, I'm going to take an English course, and then I'll be back. I'll be back much more. I'll be back much more. So, this is a phrase that imposes respect. You think like this, wow, how
different, explain the fundamentals of your thinking to me, explain why, I want to know, because you're right. Isn't that human? Isn't it beautiful to hear? This phrase, I love my family and friends, so I have to impose what I think, because otherwise they will be victims of deception. So I have to take advantage of those situations that we meet, Christmas, New Year, a party of fraternization to upset him, with opinions about life different from his, because I have to convince him, after all, it's my responsibility, the guy is bad, he doesn't think like me, he's
bad. So, because I love him, I have to, excuse the popular phrase, but that's what they say, I have to toast the patience of this person until the last toast, because I have to convince her anyway, and I still think this is a demonstration of love. And a human being who says, I love my family and friends, I have to propose to understand them, since I am also subject to deception. Wow, what a human being, huh? Seriously. I love my family and friends, let me hear them. I'm also subject to deception, I'm the deceiver. Let
me learn from them, so I can be a better friend, to be a better relative, because if I'm deceived, my mistake can be harming someone. So let me hear them, let me understand them, because the mistake is mine. Isn't it a beautiful thing? Doesn't it give dignity to those who say? It gives a human being's breath, it gives a human status, a phrase like that. To those who hear it, it comes, oops, this is worthy of respect. Isn't that the feeling we have? This is worthy of respect. And this is a highly tolerant person. Highly
tolerant. This is a symbol of tolerance. What else? I can't like people when they think differently from me. It's torture to bear them. I can't stand that guy, with those little opinions of his. It's torture to have to live with him. There comes that guy with those nonsense of his. Isn't that right? Another possibility. I can't grow up if I don't have people around me who think differently from me. Oops, someone different. Another possibility to learn. It's torture to be repeated by life outside. It's torture to look at me, December 31, 2021. Just like December
31, 2020. Which, in turn, will be just like December 31, 2022. I don't grow up at all. The same nonsense, the same little opinions, the same frozen thoughts about everything, about the life of the other, about myself. I can't stand it. Do you know what it is to come before God and say, boy, I can't stand you anymore. Turn around. Turn around. Because the way it is, you are not collaborating. It's like you imagine you look at the landscape from the window of a car and suffer from terrible monotony, because that landscape never changes. And
you are upset because the landscape does not change. Why doesn't the landscape change? From the window of your car. Because the car is stopped, my dear. That's why the landscape doesn't change, isn't it obvious? The car is stopped. So, someone came thinking differently in my field. This person will bring this fresh air that I need. I need to make synthesis. Do you remember the dialectic? Thesis, antithesis, synthesis. If you have two people who don't think they own the truth, think differently, they will have a first shock, they will learn from each other, and the two
will come out bigger. They will make a synthesis where the two grew from that contact. So, how wonderful! Someone comes who will allow me a synthesis superior to what I am today. I can't stand being always the same. There came a certain moment when I stopped myself, which will tell the others. I can't stand it, I need to grow. Isn't it a beautiful phrase? I can't grow if there are no people who think differently around me. I can't stand being always the same. Isn't it a worthy thing? Doesn't it seem like a person imbued with
all the good will in the world to exercise his sacrifice to become more human? That's what we came to do here. What did we come to do here? Build ourselves as human beings? The rest nature does alone. The rest we get in the way more than help. The only thing nature really needs from us is to build ourselves as human beings. If we are not doing this, we are not doing anything. We are making flying machines. Nature has already made comets, planets, all flying around. Machines, super-ages. Nature made the speed of light, my dear. It
doesn't need you. It doesn't want to hire you as an assistant. It doesn't need. It needs you to build itself. Because this has a law, which is free will, that doesn't allow it to do it for you. But the rest it does alone. Do you understand that? Therefore, a sentence like this is typical of a person who understood his mission. He wants to grow, he is eager to grow. And the difference brings him a little light. An opportunity to think differently. This is a tolerant. Look how beautiful a tolerant is. It's interesting because you realize
this person, I don't know who said this sentence. I don't know the physical appearance of this person. I don't know anything. But I know he's a beautiful person. Because who says that is a person who has a beauty that doesn't depend on anything external. Who says that emanates beauty. It's a tolerant. What else can we consider? The intolerant says the following. The truth is a search only mine. The others are trying to deceive their fellow men in the most effective way possible. Only I am looking for the truth. The rest, everyone is cheating. This is
the phrase of the intolerant. The phrase of the tolerant. The truth is a search of almost everyone. Everyone is trying to see it using the best possible of their resources. Everyone with the best they have is trying to see the truth. And let me improve my resources. If the other has different resources, the better. I will come out with a bigger tool pile. I will come out with a bigger tool arsenal to do my search. Everyone is looking for the truth. Now each one with the resources he has. If we exchange figurines, we come out
with more resources. We have a possibility of more effective tools. Isn't it beautiful to consider that at your level, with your possibilities, everyone is looking for the truth? No one is trying to deceive you. He is looking for the truth, the way he can, at the level he is, with the tools he has. Who knows if we exchange figurines? Is there a more true thought than the others? Probably yes. There is. The thought of a person who believes he must be fraternal, is more true than a person who believes that he must be selfish. This
is a fact. Will we get closer to this true thought being intolerant and respectful to others? No! If there is a more perfect thought, I will get closer to it, learning from everyone who passes in front of me. I'm putting together more pieces of my puzzle. So I'll be closer to something superior, to the truth. There must be more true thoughts than others. Certainly. Being tolerant, I get to it much faster than if I were intolerant and got stuck in this little piece of truth that I chose as the absolute truth. I'm stuck, I have
no movement. Therefore, if we get closer, being tolerant, it is evident that tolerance is the key to having more true thoughts. If what we love is the truth, it is tolerance that will lead us there, and not the opposite. And then comes the story I told you, the dialectic, thesis, antithesis, synthesis. Through contact with what is different from me, I grow and allow the other to grow. There is a fleeting point of contact. Have you noticed how life is a beautiful thing? I think it's too beautiful. I'm telling you now. I don't know if in
my life there will be an opportunity to be this group all together again. Maybe not. Maybe this is an unique, unique, unrepeatable meeting. And each of us has something to give to this meeting, to this moment, so that it becomes a factor of addition, so that everyone can get out of here better than they came in. All moments are like that. In this constitution, this group, all together, like this, we probably won't have another moment. In this life, there will be no other. It's a good reason for us to make this a sacred moment, a
special moment, where I give the best I have to you, you receive in the best possible way, if you have questions, you give me back the most well-intentioned questions in the world, so that we can grow together. All moments are odd and unrepeatable. And we can use them to get closer to the truth. And so we honor life. We honor every moment it gives us. One of the attributes for fulfillment is freedom. A fulfilled man is a man what? Free, kind, loving, generous, creative, imaginative, endowed with will, with intelligence, isn't that it? A fulfilled man
is the one who has all human attributes, so freedom is one of them. So one of the attributes for fulfillment is freedom. How free is he who has given up thinking he knows everything? Wow, he got rid of a heavy weight, of a shirt of strength. How free is he who got rid of this burden of thinking he knows everything? The fresh breath of life, with its huge range of possibilities not yet seen, blows over your face. You have the fresh breath of the one who is free to seek, who is no longer stuck in
a shirt of strength, of ready truths. So you are closer to the fulfillment, closer to happiness. Getting rid of this burden of thinking I know everything. What else? One of the attributes of fulfillment is dignity. How worthy is it to have the humility to know that we made a mistake? We made a lot of mistakes. And the scruple of not judging the other when we know that our mistake may be the size of his or bigger. That is, to judge when there is a precipice obligation. We are judges, or we are in a situation that
we should judge. Besides that, avoid judging others for their mistakes, considering that no one knows who made more mistakes, who made less mistakes, in this game board that is life. How worthy is he who avoids looking for other people's mistakes to criticize, knowing that they have them too, they have them and many. He has the dignity to try to correct himself. For every mistake he sees in the other, he corrects himself. And so he extracts something positive, even from the most difficult moments. Even when he suffers an injustice on the part of the other, even
when he suffers an offense, he tries to correct himself. The aggressiveness that can lead me to be offensive, the selfishness that can lead me to be unfair. I remember that once a person told me something that I found very interesting. That she had had a very rigid father, excessively, very hard, and that she had suffered a lot with it in childhood. And she was a little traumatized, until there, in the adult age, in a job situation, in a team that she led, she realized that she had a tendency to be rigid, to be harsh, like
her father was. And when she went to manifest that feeling, Oops! I was already a victim of this type of relationship. I can't victimize others. She said, I stopped being harsh because I was a victim of one. If it weren't for that situation I suffered, I would go out and enslave everyone else. Do you know what it is to unite the two ends of life? A situation that was hard, but was extremely necessary for me to repress a tendency that is inside me. As I was a victim of an abusive relationship like that, I will
not abuse anyone. So that was useful. I needed to go through it, because otherwise the abusive would be me. Do you understand? It is looking at things from a positive side. Everything I lived as a passive pole, prevents me from being the active pole to explore the other in the same way. So it's useful. I went through it, I didn't go through it in vain. It is worthy that you look at things like that, instead of judging the other. That person was like that, that person was like that. Well, the one who suffers the most
with what that person is, is himself. Instead, I learn something from this situation. And sometimes precious things like the one this person told me. One of the attributes for realization is identity. How is it legitimate that one who does not allow himself to be dragged by ready-made truths, built by people who are not ready, do not even seem to be walking for it. Who owns the ready-made truths? The currents of opinion of society, are these currents made by ready people? How can their truth be ready if they are not? How can their opinion be perfect
if they are not? How is it worthy for me to say, no, I am a product of myself and not of the environment? I will be a producer of modifications in the environment and a product of myself. Either you turn your mirror to the outside and imitate what is around you, or turn your mirror to the inside, and reflect what you have of more legitimate and more true. How is this worthy? And then you are a factor of transformation in the world, and not just a repeater of what everyone does, without any identity, a number.
What sets us apart in the world? Who are you? What are you? Your address? Your identity card? The profession you have? Can't all this change? Your identity, which are the values you built from a purpose in life, from a way of thinking, this is you. If you don't have it, you're nobody, my dear. It's a number, absolutely anonymous, in the middle of a chain of opinion, where nobody knows anything, but still feel entitled to enslave the other to think the same. How is it worthy of the one who does not allow himself to be enslaved?
The one who demands of himself, to have his own ideas, his own feelings, his own life. How prudent is the one who remembers the advice of his mother. Remember the advice of our mother? But everyone does it, we said. What did she answer? You are not everyone. What a good advice that was! If we all had followed our mother's advice, there would be no intolerant on the face of the earth. And we would be growing more. We would be at a much higher rate of growth. That is, you are not everyone, boy. Come here, I'll
pull your ear. Remember that. If we had learned this, we would have escaped many situations. Sometimes we are cruel when we accept the individuality of others. When we massacre the one who dares to live, to exercise his freedom of life, to be himself. Hasn't anyone of us been cruel to someone like that? Remember the advice of the mother and let her pull painfully our ear, because we deserve it. It is already past the time to learn deeply what this advice means. How wise is the one who knows how to live and let live? How special
is a person like that? How dignified, how human, how admirable, how beautiful. And that's what I would like to pass on to you. We are in a moment of much dissidence of opinions, a moment of conflicts in all lines. Let people do their experience of believing in what they want. Do not feel like you own the truth. Your dignity is much more convincing than a thousand shouts at the imposition of opinions. If what you say has any foundation of truth, through your dignity others will think about what you say. And not through your shouts or
the imposition of your opinion. Your dignity makes what you believe convincing. Your identity, your dignity, makes you worthy of being an example to others. And soon they will be looking to awaken too, because you have awakened. So much to influence others when you want to do it in a positive way, the best thing in the world is to have dignity. And what you do will be a powerful influence, because unfortunately in our historical moment, dignity is a rare article. And whoever is worthy is influential.
