three people in the Bible who died twice first Lazarus how is this possible Hebrews 9:27 tells us and just as it is appointed for men to die once and after that comes judgment this interpretation of Hebrews 9 verse 27 outlines a principle rather than an absolute and immutable law for example Lazarus and others were raised from the dead and apparently died twice however this does not refute Hebrews 9:27 the first man on this list was a friend of Jesus this miracle was remarkable for two reasons first Jesus was part of this great testimony and second
it was also the occasion when Jesus wept Lazarus along with his two sisters Mary and Martha were Disciples of Jesus they are mentioned several times in the gospels including John 11: 1 and 2 but there was a problem this time Lazarus was sick and near death knowing that Jesus had the ability to heal their brother Mary and Martha sent a message to Jesus pleading for him to come John 11:4 when Jesus heard it he said this illness does not lead to death no it is for the glory of God so that the Son of God
may be glorified through it when he received the message Jesus promised that the illness would not end in death but but in the glory of God these adverse circumstances like the case of the blind man were not the result of sin they were meant to honor Jesus lazarus's illness was not a punishment or a sign of defiance but rather served a spiritual purpose John 11: 5 and 6 New American version now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus so when he heard that he was Ill he stayed 2 days longer in the place where
he was according to John Jesus loved Martha her sister and Lazarus and they knew his feelings they had a close relationship with him despite this Jesus remained in the exact location for two more days his procrastination seemed to reject his promise of recovery he delayed his arrival because he loved them this passage shows an important truth about prayer in our moments of struggle we want God to respond immediately when he does not we are tempted to think that he does not care but the reality is that we do not understand his timing or his objectives
because his ways are not ours there is a method in his apparent contradictions he responds in this way because he loves us and seeks his glory believe in him and his promises John 11: 7 and 8 then after this he said to the disciples let us go to Judea again the disciples said to him Rabbi the Jews were just now seeking to Stone you and you are going there again after he said this he continued to tell them our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep but I am going there to wake him up John 11: 12-15
the disciples then said to him Lord if he has fallen asleep he will recover now Jesus had spoken of his death but they thought that he was speaking about actual sleep so Jesus told them plainly Lazarus has died and I am glad for your sake that I was not there so that you may believe but let us go to him Lazarus had been dead and buried for 4 days when Jesus and his followers arrived in Bethany even though the funeral was over many friends came to comfort Martha and Mary Martha approached Jesus and pleaded Lord
if you had been here my brother would not have died this is entirely your fault Jesus I called you but you did not respond none of this would have happened if you had listen to me however she does not give up hope as she continues even now I know that whatever you ask from God God will give you as a result Martha felt both faith and uncertainty when we least expect it uncertainty appears when it happens convey your doubts To God In Prayer he is omniscient and already knows about them believe in his ability to
handle your disappointment and spiritual struggle I am the resurrection and the life he informed her the Son of God possesses life in himself and can grant it to others allowing them to live forever he is the source of eternal life that is why he can state that whoever believes in me will never die that is he will pass directly from physical life to eternal life the present tense of the verbs live and believe in me also indicates that Jesus is a liberator in the present time and not just in the future although she did not
understand everything or know what would happen Martha trusted Jesus and confessed him as the Messiah the Son of God John 11: 31-35 then the Jews who were with her in the house consoling her when they saw that Mary got up quickly and went out they followed her supposing that she was going to the tomb to weep there when Mary came to the place where Jesus was she saw him and fell at his feet saying to him Lord if you had been here my brother would not have died therefore when Jesus saw her weeping and the
Jews who came with her also weeping he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled and said where have you laid him they said to him Lord come and see Jesus wept Mary's first words were the same as her sisters Lord if you had been here my brother would not have died Jesus was deeply moved by her weeping and asked to see the tomb then we read the shortest but very significant verse in the entire Bible Jesus wept those with Mary and Martha could witness how much Jesus cared about Lazarus some were perplexed asking why a
man who could restore sight to the blind could not keep a sick man alive if they thought preventing a man's death would be incredible they were about to have a big surprise Jesus said to remove the Stone from the entrance of the cave tomb Martha opposed this Lazarus had been dead for 4 days she understood Jesus's desire to pay homage to her deceased brother but the smell of decomposition would be unbearable Jesus corrected her saying did I not tell you that if you believe you will see the glory of God he challenged her to show
her faith in him by allowing the stone to be removed Jesus did not want her explanation about the body's decomposition he wanted her to walk by faith putting one foot in front of the other faith is acting as if God is telling the truth then demonstrating the glory of God would be up to Jesus Faith must precede Vision if we want to see God's Supernatural intervention in our circumstances we will never know what God has in mind until we obey what he has revealed John 11: 41 and 42 new American version so they removed the
Stone and Jesus lifted up his eyes and said father I thank you that you have heard me I knew that you always hear me but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here that they may believe that you sent me Jesus could have arrived on time and performed a private miracle to heal Lazarus instead he arrived late to perform a public and Supernatural spectacle confirming his Messianic identity and inspiring confidence in a large crowd although this caused temporary anguish it would have a significant spiritual influence and bring even greater honor to God
John 11: 43 and 44 when he had said these things he cried out with a loud voice Lazarus come out the man who had died came out his hands and feet bound with linen strips and his face wrapped with a cloth Jesus said to them unbind him and let him go Jesus called the dead man Lazarus come out a living man emerged from the tomb still bound and dressed in burial cloths the dead had been brought back to life this is just a taste of what is to come Lazarus would bodily die again one day
on the other hand those who believe in Jesus will participate in the Eternal resurrection and live forever second The Widow's son of zarap during one of the darkest periods in Israel Elijah received a call from God Elijah was a tishbite from the transjordanian region of Gilead despite specific orders for Israel not to mix the worship of pagan gods with the worship of the true God King Ahab encouraged the Israelites to mix their worship of the true God with the worship of these pagan gods and Pagan worship methods he achieved this by Leading by example idolatry
had become a significant social problem in Israel Elijah predicted a drought in Israel as punishment for ahab's sins as the drought continued to wreak havoc collecting water became increasingly difficult the drought had obviously reached its peak Elijah knelt and bowed in prayer as he had done before God spoke to Elijah again telling him to go to zarap and make his home there a widow would take care of him there first Kings 17: 8-9 then the word of the Lord came to him saying arise go to zarap which belongs to Iden and stay there behold I
have commanded a widow there to provide for you God LED Elijah from the dry Brook to the Gentile City this was a unique and challenging move for Elijah to make behold I have commanded a widow there to provide for you in Antiquity widows were known for living in extreme poverty widows remained on the margins of society often living in complete dependence on the local community's charity and occasionally Ally being forced into prostitution in 1 Kings 17: 10-11 we read so he arose and went to zarap and when he came to the gate of the city
Behold a widow was there Gathering sticks and he called to her and said please bring me a little water in a cup so that I may drink as she was going to get it he called to her again and said please bring me a piece of bread in your hand indeed a widow was there Gathering sticks this revealed that she was a woman living in poverty as she was collecting remnants to use as firewood Elijah probably thought that God would lead him to an unusually wealthy Widow but instead God led him to a gentile Widow
and she was poor this certainly put the Widow's Faith to an extraordinary test to receive and give to a stranger about whom she knew nothing the small amount needed to keep her son from perishing was too much to expect God had chosen this woman but he chose her for more than a miracle he chose her to serve the choice of this woman though it brought such a blessing to her involved service in First Kings 17:12 she said as the Lord your God Lives I have no food only a handful of flour in the bowl and
a little oil in the jar and behold I am Gathering a few sticks so that I may go in and prepare it for me and my son so that we may eat and die Elijah saido not be afraid this was the word that God spoke to the Widow through Elijah go and do as you said but first make me a small cake from it the bowl of flour will not be exhausted nor will the jar of oil run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth the Widow actually did this she willingly
gave at Great risk based on her trust in God's promise she and he and her household ate for many days First Kings 17: 17 18 to8 and it happened after these things that the son of the woman the Mistress of the house became ill and his condition became very severe until he finally stopped breathing then she said to Elijah why is it your business you man of God and yet you have come to me to bring my sin to remembrance and to kill my son we read that after these things the son of the woman
who owned the house became ill we can imagine the Happy Days of provision in the Widow's house a continuous miracle of God was meeting their needs despite this the happy times were eventually overshadowed by a cloud of Sorrow brought by the illness and subsequent death of the Widow's son the Widow was already mourning the loss of her husband when her son passed away she not only suffered the pain any mother would feel after the death of a child but also suffered the pain of someone who lost the only hope she had for the future she
had hoped her son would grow up and support her when she got older now however those hopes were completely destroyed you have come to bring my sin to remembrance and to kill my son in 1 Kings 17: 19 to20 new American version but he said to her give me your son then he took him from her arms and carried him to the upper room where he was living and laid him on his own bed and he called to the Lord and said oh Lord my God have you also brought Cal ity to the Widow with
whom I am staying by causing her son to die he took him from her arms this Vivid detail shows that the Widow held the dead son tightly then he called to the Lord Elijah prayed to God with all his heart and had a close relationship with God In Prayer he asked God to shed some light on this tragedy that seemed Beyond explanation and Beyond redemption in First Kings 17: 21-24 then he stretched himself upon the child three times and called to the Lord and said oh Lord my God please let this child's life return to
him and the Lord heard the voice of Elijah and the life of the child returned to him and he revived Elijah then took the child and brought him down from the upper room into the house and gave him to his mother and Elijah said see your son is alive then the woman said to Elijah now I know that you are a man of of God and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is truth he stretched himself upon the child three times and called to the Lord this was an unusual method of prayer
but Elijah had no precedence it was not because of his prayer technique but because of his faith that God answered this prayer third Dorcas also known as Tabitha she was a disciple of Jesus and part of the early church she lived in Jappa and her generous attitude was widely known her identity was that of a very generous woman driven by being part of the advancement of God's kingdom and she loved caring for those in need around her the Bible says she performed acts of kindness with people and was regular and consistent she gave clothes money
and more acts 9: 36-42 now in jopa there was a disciple named Tabitha which translated means Dorcas this woman was abounding with Deeds of kindness and charity which she continually did but it happened at that time that she fell sick and died and when they had washed her body they laid it in an upper room since L was near joper the disciples having heard that Peter was there sent two men to him urging him do not delay in coming to us so Peter got up and went with them when he arrived they brought him into
the upper room and all the widows Stood Beside him weeping and showing all the tunics and garments that Dorcas used to make while she was with them but Peter sent them all out and knelt down and prayed and turning to the body he said Tabitha arise and she opened her eyes and when she saw Peter she sat up and he gave her his hand and raised her up and calling the Saints and widows he presented her alive it became known all over Jer and many believed in the Lord what must have disting Dorcas was her
manner of giving which was based on selflessness and not the need to Signal virtue or act ostentatiously her Legacy of generosity and Care left a profound mark on the community so much so that her death provoked an immediate and deep reaction among those she helped the resurrection of Dorcas through Peter's prayer not only brought joy and relief to the community but also strengthened the faith of many in Jesus demon demonstrating the power and compassion of the Lord if this content was valuable to you I ask for your support by subscribing so you don't miss any
