How to change NotebookLM Audio Overview voices with ElevenLabs and SpeakerSplit.io

welcome back everybody so today we're going to do a quick tutorial on how to change the voice um for Notebook LM audio overviews so basically um all the notebook LM audio overviews um have a male and female speaker uh they do sound very natural very realistic um in my opinion they're indistinguishable from any podcast you would listen to on Spotify um but what happens is as notebook LM audio overviews become more popular uh people will recognize the voice of the speakers and will know that you're using a notebook LM uh podcast or audio overview so

what we're going to do today is uh I'm going to show you a a quick hack or tutorial on how to change the voices on Notebook LM so that they have a totally different character and um voice actor uh instead of the um the one that comes with um notebook LM so what we're going to do is we're going to jump right into notebook LM and do a really quick one and we're just going to go through uh the differ steps on how to do this so we're here on Notebook lm's uh main site and

we're going to create a new one and let's say that um for today we're the example we're going to do is we're going to do a uh audio overview on a historical documentary so right here you could see that um if you don't have a PDF or a research paper or Google doc that you have you can also do videos um so I found one over here on YouTube it's a documentary they did on Rollo the Dark Age Warrior so we're going to grab this URL um we're going to copy that and go back to

notebook LM and right here where it says uh YouTube we're going to paste the link in there okay we're going to insert and so instantly it's already you know kind of providing us summary and what we're going to do is since we want to do an audio overview which is also a podcast we're going to go ahead and generate this now this may take a few minutes um so we can kind of um you know get back to what we were going to plan on doing which is we're going to take the audio output from

this the audio overview once it's completed and we're going to separate the audio into two different tracks one for the male speaker and one for the female speaker now once we have separated the audio what we're going to do then is we're going to go to 11 labs and do um we're going to do basically a voice over we're going to do the voice changer so uh what that'll do is the uh voices that generates that notebook LM generate generates which has the same of voice actors every time um we're going to generate a new

actor voice actor who will um change the speech pattern to a different voice and what this is going to do is it's going to make our podcast or our audio overview totally different sounding than um than the notebook lm's version now the content is going to stay the same and it should capture all the nuances and the back and forth and the banter and all that but what it's going to do is give us a totally different and unique personality so that um ours is going to stand out more so as soon as this finishes

we're going to get right back to it all right guys we're back and as you could see um notebook LM finished generating the podcast uh I'm going to play this back real quick to see how it sounds get ready for a journey back to the 9th century we're diving into the the story of R the Viking Warrior who became the first ruler of Normandy it's a story filled with brutal raids cunning strategies and a really surprising trans okay um yeah so that sounds good what we're going to do is uh next we're going to download

this audio track and uh first let's give this a name let's call it Rolo documentary all right now that we downloaded it we can um continue to The Next Step so um the next step is we're going to go to speaker split which is uh as you saw in the previous videos it's a AI it's a online tool that uh separates our audio files into different for different speakers so I'm already lged in I'm going to go here and go to my downloads so this is the this is the um audio overview we just downloaded

from notebook LM so I'm going to go ahead and upload the whole thing and what this does when I hit process audio is it's going to separate the uh speakers into uh two different audio tracks because remember um when we're doing a talking head uh AI podcast um to be able to lip sync the different audio tracks or audio channels to the uh the speakers independently um we have to separate the audio so um we're not going to do it manually obviously we have this uh resource so that's what we're going to use and just

like that in a few minutes it's ready so let's go ahead and download um speaker a and speaker B this will be um the isolated audio tracks for each speaker so we already downloaded one and we're going to download the second one all right guys so one of the things I want to quickly mention is um since we're using 11 labs to do the uh voice changer there is a limitation right now that the audio files have to be 50 megabytes and they can't be longer than 5 minutes per um per upload so what we're

going to have to do is our uh separated audio tracks that we just downloaded from speaker split what I'm going to have to do is I'm going to go I'm going to have to go back um to my download folder and I basically what I did was convert um The Wave files the these are going to be 20 minutes long because that's how long the original audio file um from notebook LM was for each speaker so what I did is just for this tutorial I just clip them down to about four minutes each U now

uh this is um only a necessary step if you want to change the uh voice and characters of your notebook LM and for the sake of the tutorial that's what I went ahead and I did so let's go ahead and proceed uh but that's why it's um this shows it's a wave file 103 megabytes and this one is a MP3 that's only 4 megabytes and 4 minutes long this one was uh 20 minutes long so um that's what I did I just for the sake of this tutorial I went ahead and I just trimmed uh

these two downloads into smaller ones that are about four minutes just so that we don't run into any uh issues with 11 Labs so I'm going to go ahead and hit upload go to my download folder um the ones I just created um were speaker a clip speaker B clip so I'll do the speaker a and this is what it sounds like Journey Century we're diving into the story of R the Viking Warrior who became the first ruler of Normandy it's a story filled with brutal raids cunning strategies and a really surprising transformation that shaped

European history okay as you can hear here that's the uh notebook LM voice actor the male and obviously he's they're always going to sound the same they use the same voice actors for Notebook LM and right now since they don't have a feature to change the uh voice characteristics of your uh of the um of the podcast or the voice actors what we're going to do here is we're going to change the voice using the voice changer in 11 labs and let's go ahead and find a totally different character okay let let's go with um

to go back over here and upload the second one and this is for the female okay so for this one we're going to go into and let's let's try to change the her accent too we're going to go to let's look at more voices um and let's do so what we're going to do is we're going to use in instead of a male and a female we're going to do uh two male voice actors to understand R's story we need to First understand the world he came from Imagine ninth century Europe all right so basically

um while that's working um we're going to I'm going to go ahead and download that it just finished it so um now instead of the male female we have male male and there's uh one that's um an older kind of I think he had like a German accent and then this one is a younger man uh a younger man and uh I guess the voice actor's name is Paul Henry and so now we have a we've turned the uh original uh notebook LM we turn the original original notebook LM audio podcast into from a male

female to now we have two males so I'm going to show you quickly what that's going to look like how it sounds in the before and after now I'm going to quickly uh play a preview of the before and after of what the original uh notebook LM podcast or audio overview sounded like and then compare it to the remixed version where we created uh we separated out the audio and then regenerated the voices to our own uh unique voice characters so we're going to listen to the before and after get ready for a journey back

how the the 11 Labs conversion The Voice conversion turned out um now you have a super unique sounding two voice actors that aren't the um same sounding uh notebook LM voice actors now keep in mind um you can always fine-tune this you can go back and change the voices anytime um just remember the limitations on the voice changer is that it has to be no more than 5 minutes long uh per clip so you're going to have to do a little bit of editing to your uh separated audio tracks to be able to chop them

up into 5 minute bits and also you want to uh definitely take the time to go through the different voice actors uh I didn't really pick the two best U just for the sake of this tutorial I kind of just winged a um you know the voice actors but you can definitely pick out some good ones that will maybe fit with the Cadence and the speed of the podcast so uh with a little bit of time and care and consideration you can do that and um so that was basically a tutorial on how to um
