most of you watching get YouTube on a fundamental level completely wrong and I've been reading through a couple of the comments on the first couple videos I posted to this Channel and most of you really don't understand the fun fundamentals as to why I'm able to blow up faceless channels to millions of views within a matter of months again this takes a lot of skill time and practice and it's something that came over over you know 8 years so don't expect it to be something that's overnight but one of the reasons some of you might
be struggling for years on end and get no growth is because she fundamentally misunderstand how YouTube functions so first of all there's a couple core principles that you have to know and I will go over a few of these core principles I won't be able to cover every single core YouTube principle if you want to see more of these kind a super fundamental level or science-based YouTube growth strategies then you can comment down below but I promise you if you stick around to the end of this video you will understand YouTube on a fundamental level
that 99% of creators don't right so my questions my question is really before we get started on this video is would you rather learn from someone who blew up one channel to you know two 3 million subscribers has been working on that channel for 14 year 14 years or would you want to learn from someone who is blowing up channels every single month and if you don't believe me you can look at back at my other videos um but then again um I really understand how YouTube growth works on the more fundamental level I might
not be the most charismatic or I might not build the best connection with an audience but I do understand how the system um functions on a very basic level that's what we'll be discussing and and not only that we'll be going over a couple of very very uh interesting statistics that I pulled from um my uh nexl database uh for some of you that might not know I have a extension called NEX extension uh and I and I have a lot of YouTube data that I really get some interesting insights from so before we get
into that um let me start with one of the most essential things you have to know if you want to get get into YouTube faces or if you want to be able to grow on YouTube you have to understand this principle and I wrote this threat um you know over a year ago and it still stand uh stands true today it's the core fundamental basis of how we operate as faces creators so basically I'll just read through the uh threat and elaborate while I'm doing so so um I start off the Fret by saying getting
250 million views on YouTube is easy if you look at it as a Trader and not as a YouTuber let me explain so here's what you'll learn in the next four minutes so how to never enter saturated Niche again understand why some channels don't get views anymore and think like a YouTube Pro so first of all why should you care in the stock market there's a mantra called by low sell high for YouTubers uh in part particular faceless creators it's the same game so um especially when you're operating low quality niches this principle really or
not low quality niches but uh things that for example don't have 3D animation or have a lot of brand value this um uh this system will always remain true so um really what you have to understand is the market or product life cycle of a niche you need to know how to time your entry into a niche and you need to know how to Pivot and this is very similar to how a a day trader for example operates so as you can see um so the YouTube Market is kind of similar to a trading floor
right so um in order to kind of get good at the skills I mentioned above uh you have to be able to predict upand cominging niches you have to recognize when a niche is about to uh either get saturated or you have to recognize when there's a lot of competition coming into a niche and you have to identify the client right so um this is why you have to understand Niche life cycle so if you don't you will always be left holding the bag uh with nothing left inside of it so basically if you don't
understand Niche life cycles good um what will happen is that you'll always be entering at the top of the market instead of entering early when no one else has heard of the niche and you're able to exploit the niche for a much much longer time so first off what is a niche life cycle so um it reflects the faces a Content category on YouTube under goes uh Innovation is the first stage as you can see uh right here that's the first stage uh my face cam is in the way but first bit says Innovation uh
then you have the emergence State then you have the growth State then the maturity and then the decline state so just to describe um what each stage means uh which is innovation um which means something is gaining traction emerging emerging means it's getting more popular um growth means it's getting widespread adaptation maturity um we again maturity means uh you know Innovation slows down and growth slows down quite a lot and then obviously you have decline which is there's uh less interest coming from viewers in a certain Niche or there's more uh uh Supply going on
in the niche so again there's a section where I talk about how does this affect personality based YouTubers but I'll skip over um it for now uh um so let's get started with the niche life cycle so first you have a few different characters uh that you have to understand which is you have the innovator um and these are the people who go out and Yeah create new niches so for example I talked in another video about uh how we found a niche in another video which was about Lion King uh it's kind of like
essays about the lion king um and I said you could probably transfer that format onto other Disney Series so um the people who came up with that Lion King kind of format or uh the people who entered that kind of dish Disney commentary or essay nich first those are the innovators the first people to create a channel in that certain category format it's the same um way for the channel denzo for example that that channel innovated on or or first started that Trend where it's like why it sucks to be B born as X animal
right that those are the innovat preferably we do not want to be innovators but we'll we'll come back to that uh part later then you have the institutional Traders so these are people like me We spot Trends really early we know when to hop onto a niche um and um we capitalize on it in a very aggressive way now then you have the retail Traders um this is when the niche becomes mainstream so usually uh the retail Traders are the people who kind of um Jo jump on the niche when people on Twitter start talking
about it when people um like when the YouTube gurus uh YouTube faces gurus start talking about it on YouTube uh those people jump in uh in the growth stage usually and then like most beginners will jump in at the maturity stage now this maturity stage is is a is a point where in in the niche where what you'll usually see on channels is that the um subscriber counts are much much higher than the actual view counts so for example um meditation or um or motivation is a really great example of this where you have a
lot of channel that channels that have you know 10 million subscribers but get like 10,000 views a video that's a really good example of a a really mature or like a or a niche in Decline um where there's only a couple shareholders of the niche because the rest have kind of been rooted out because of uh like large amounts of saturation now in this um in this video basically we we'll be going through each stage of a of a niche so first we have the Innovation stage um this is a pretty highrisk game um and
it and it's really for people who've been doing YouTube longer and are very creative um so usually these people have to go through a bunch of trial and error um and they need very high pain tolerance for especially failure so it's very important that um you know usually as a beginner you kind of want to stay away from this phase because um if you're an innovator you're going to be failing a lot until something succeeds um so basically U moving on um we have the emergence State now the emergence state is really where you want
to start jumping into the niche so this is where there's two or three uh so the innovator has done its work now there's two or three others that picked up on the in innovator's work and there's enough signal for um someone like me to reliably say okay this uh can become a very interesting Niche right so um a good example of this was in the courtroom Niche and that's now a super big Niche I was the third or fourth channel in this in that Niche and I sold two or three other channels blowing up and
they all got consistent views much higher than their subscriber count recently started and um especially when there's only two or three with very consistent and very high views that's when you want to start jumping into the niche and and and that those are usually perfect kind of niches to enter especially if views are consistent what I often see beginners also um kind of do wrong is that they see kind of like a channel and it has one video that has like 5 million views and the rest just has like 10,000 views and they think of
that 1 million or that 5 million view video they think they can draw the conclusion that this is going to work because it had a viral video but the thing is one of viral videos can have many many different factors but if multiple channels can pull off um viral videos consistently that's a really strong sign that something is R uh repeatable and that's what we're really looking for so preferably you want to be entering in the emergence state but it's really difficult to find these type of niches and they don't and like the chance that
you'll catch them in at the right stage is really really low but again if you get good at it uh you can consistently start catching these niches in the emergent state but this is something that takes and practice uh and another uh core concept that's really important is that you start setting hypothesis or hypotheses for yourself so what you don't want is just to jump into niches or pick topics or pick thumbnails on feelings really what you want to be doing is you want to be um you want to write down at what point you
jump into a specific Niche right so what are the requir Ms for you to uh jump into an ISE or what are the requirements for you to um make a topic about something right so um it's very important to write that down just because you you can create a consistent strategy and you can start tweaking that strategy so um you try out that strategy if it works fine you'll stick to it but if you feel you tweak that strategy in order to kind of do something a little bit different next time and so you're not
left guessing every single time and it's the same thing with with the with the videos is that you want to set a hypothesis like okay I think the I think this thumbnail does well because these elements are in it and I think the video does well because these elements are in it and if the video underperforms then you start analyzing okay what was different in this video um from my higher performing videos and um and how does this maybe either differ from my hypothesis or do I need to adjust my hypothesis for for the next
video um in order to kind of test if um maybe another element is the factor for these videos going viral so you always want to uh set a couple points that you want to change for each video so let's say you know the topic is um um how to grow like how to grow YouTube channels for example um for example for this video I'm testing out a more polished thumbnail style uh and and my hypothesis is okay if I do a more polished thumbnail Styles I'll be able to reach a wire audience but let's say
it doesn't work as well then I'll just switch back then I know uh changing the thumbnail doesn't work then I'll just switch back to that original kind of like screenshot thumbnail format right so you're always consistently testing um uh small tweaks you never want to make big jumps always small uh small tweaks that's super important um right so moving on again real retail Traders are basically the the masses right um and you want to avoid being in that horde of people especially if like a guru on like like a guru on these face Channel start
promoting different niches um you want to be careful because I'm not saying it's immediately a bad Niche I'm just saying if people become aware of a niche it becomes more difficult even if you don't see the effect of it straight away usually what happens in a couple weeks couple months as the word spread lots of lots of competition are coming into that news so again you want to I'm always talking about Runway so um you want to have as much runway in a niche as possible so what I'm saying uh what I mean by Runway
is how long can I kind of earn money in this Niche before the views start getting diluted over a lot of different competitors and it's very important that that Runway is as long as possible so the channel can earn as much money as possible right so uh then you have the grow tra uh stage again this is where most people jump in like I uh like I told you uh in this stage it's just really important that you start looking for maybe uh sub niches or sub formats uh it's really important that you start innovating
here if you're if you kind of uh don't stay on top of okay who is getting the most views in the niche during the grow stage uh what tends to happen is that um uh you start being left behind so the viewers are used to a certain format and they start getting bored of that format and then people start innovating on uh the original format and you always want to be kind of um competing with uh the top competitor in your KN so who especially these newcomers that go viral super quickly and and that are
kind of uh taking over the niche those are the people who you want to model your channel off of not the original uh competitor that you find found the niche off of that's very very important when trying to grow a Channel or or making sure you're competitive uh on YouTube right so uh then you have the maturity stage um in general um a couple signs um that that this that you're in a maturity stage so basically just for the people who don't know uh at this phase the market may appear really welcoming and there's a
lot of really big channels making getting a lot of view uh uh but it's sat secretly saturated right so you're basically buying at the top so it looks really good the market looks good I think Denso Niche is one of those niches that that are kind of approaching uh this stage um you can obviously um avoid that saturation by maybe transferring the niche into another um area so going from kind of like why it sucks to be B born as X animal to go uh to going to why it sucks to be born as X
historic persona for example um that's possible but again if you go in the exact same format it becomes really difficult even though it looks like a channel where you have a lot of views and um and and they grow very quickly it it's becoming saturated just of because of the amount of attention and and channels being started in that Niche right so um Again YouTube has to dilute the views over more competitors um so yeah this is just a very very very important um couple lessons I recommend you to uh read through this um threat
a little bit more um so this is a bit of an older threat but yeah definitely recommend reading through this so another couple things that want to keep in mind when kind of picking niches is that um you want to look at the um RPM versus basically the RPM ranges right that you're going for so a lot of people love to pick kind of like football or anime niches the problem with those niches is that um you have very much diminishing return so as srpms near zero um the max the max amount of Revenue that
you can generate with a channel just um plummet and you just want to make sure that you're in The Sweet Spot and usually The Sweet Spot for niches um that you're really after is that5 to $15 RPM range if you can get a channel in that5 to $15 RPM range that's where most revenue is being generated and and this is for example um uh for the people wondering um how I am generating this data uh and I wanted to get back on this so basically um I have an extension called the nexl extension and a
lot of you you been asking questions about this but this is basically next St extension and um what it does is um it estimates um it does a bunch of stuff but uh one of the features is that it uses an algorithm to estimate the channel Revenue the uh the views the RPM and this is how I'm plotting out these charts um so there again these charts aren't perfect um I think there's a pretty good representation of what uh what the best ranges are uh across YouTube so um yeah there's also a couple other cool
features like being able to see monetization uh status being able to save channels to folder whatnot but again we'll we'll cover that sometime in the future um anyway moving on so again look for niches in a five to5 RPM range that's very important um another thing is that high average views isn't always most uh most profitable so um what you'll see is that uh Channels with lower RPM and usually also like higher average views tend to um have such low RPMs like football um anime like these niches have such low RPMs that even if they're
getting millions and millions of views they can't compete with those niches that are between like 100 like 100,000 views and 400,000 views on average um and getting like a five to $10 RPM right so it's really important that you make sure that if you're going in a lower RPM these that the views are extremely high this is just a very common mistake I I see people make and it's like they kind of get stuck on like 2 3K a month in Revenue um and again if you really are aiming for explosive growth and and and
really big profitable channels then you really should be looking for five to $15 RPM niches in a range of like 140 to 400k views on the videos um and again it it it doesn't strictly have to be in that range but um just just based off the data that should be the most optimal range where you know most of the channels are earning most of their money right so just a very important concept to uh grasp another important concept to grasp when you're kind of like picking a niche or entering a niche is kind of
um the expected amount of um uh audience coming from a certain country so to kind of guesstimate how much RPM is going to be a good rule of thumb is kind of to guesstimate how many viewers are coming from certain countri so you always want to be looking at the comments seeing where the viewers are coming from uh usually you can see by their usernames or by the Channel videos that they're uploading to their Channel who uh is watching s Channel and um there's a very strong relationship obviously between RPM and the amount of and
how how much uh of the audience is watching from a certain country so for example um if you have an 80% um again this is coming from our algorithm uh data so if you have an 80 % uh United States audience usually your RPM will be around like 7 to eight doll if you have for example um an in very Indian audience right uh in that case for example if your audience is like 40% uh Indian your RPM will be like $3 if it's much higher than that you'll be getting like $1 or or even
less than that right so um you want to keep that in mind and and other countries that could be interesting obiously is Canada German Australia those have decent RPM RPMs United Kingdom RPMs are surprisingly low uh on average um however for example Germany and Canada are also uh pretty decent uh countries to start faces channels or uh faces niches where you can start your channel around right so um I thought it would be an interesting stat to kind of show um now another thing that I often get is like uh how long should I stay
in N like how many video should I upload before I give up um I recommend to kind of pivot through niches especially as a beginner as fast as you can so upload like 5 to 12 videos and then pivot um and only pivot if you haven't had a single video Hit above 20,000 views if you upload five to 12 videos and the quality is decent and you've shown it to other people and they say okay this quality is decent and you compare it to competitors and and the quality is about even or 20% better and
you know the video is still still not taking off um at that point I would just recommend okay pivot pivot into the next Niche and then just watch the channel and see if any of the videos do pick up uh later on but again uh just rule thumb I usually go for 10 to 12 uh videos in each Niche um and then I'm looking for if any of those videos reach above 20,000 views at least um however it's also uh important to note that obviously s year if you're a beginner uh sometimes it will just
take more time right cuz I know if I upload a video if it's the right format yes or no if if I'm doing something wrong yes or no in some cases uh you're just going to make um like beginner mistakes and uh maybe quitting at 10 to 12 videos too early but however just as rules a thumb for my formula it's 10 to 12 videos uh at most um another thing that's interesting is kind of like seeing the average view count of videos versus the title length uh so again usually the top performing titles are
kind of between like 30 and 60 characters again good thing to pick up for kind of learning how to write titles um and then I wanted to go over one last thing which I really think will teach you the basics of um how to start a great uh fa channels or or how to understand the YouTube algorithm and how to understand um niches very well which is basically uh this video I recorded over at vid Summit so let me pull up that video and there's a few things that I wanted to talk about first so
this basically the person speaking that you're going to hear speaking is um Tod and TOD is a product manager on the recommendation page over YouTube so he basically decides what videos come up on the YouTube homepage uh or the system behind that right so um this is a very watch especially if you're a beginner I will go over the first clip uh which basically explains why CTR really doesn't matter at as much as most of you think um I'll elaborate while we're going through this video but it's definitely uh kind of a good segment to
watch there's longer clips of this so again you can go to my Twitter go to my media and and find this video um but yeah great this is a great watch so we'll go through this for first clip just so you get an idea of that sometimes YouTube Studio data so let's say you get like a 20 25% CTR and this is a very fundamental thing that you have to understand about YouTube um um which is if you have for example like a 20% CTR right and you're thinking like oh I have a 20% CTR
like the video must be like this video must be going viral but again CTR is relative to the audience so if you have um for example like 100 people uh see your video and your CD is 20% um that that doesn't say a lot just because again CTR um as more people see the video it naturally will decline so it doesn't say a lot because it's an hidden average really what what is a much more powerful indicator and what you should be tracking in order to determine okay what was successful and what wasn't it's just
simply views and revenue uh the rest subscriber count doesn't matter uh that all doesn't matter retention also doesn't matter as much as you think all that matters really is if you're if you want your end result right to be as as much revenue and as much views as possible why are you focusing on metrics that don't directly correlate right so why not just focus on okay um instead of going copying the thumbnail formats that um had the highest CTR copy the thumbnail formats on your channel that has the highest views and it sounds like a
super straightforward and simple principle but yet a lot of people get this wrong and uh a lot of data in YouTube Studio again statist it's very easy to lie with statistics and a lot of data can be very misleading especially for beginners in YouTube Studios so I want you to kind of um I think a really good uh person who explains this really well um how kind of like YouTube lies with data is uh there's an account called wo strategy on Twitter um and he explains this really well so this is great to kind of
read through um as well so I definitely recommend uh going through his account to kind of understand um how they like how YouTube Studio can kind of mislead you right but I just want to go through this because I think it's a core principle that a lot of people get wrong as in how uh how to treack the performance of your videos yeah so uh basically the the presenter is asking him why do uh videos with high performing statistics like CTR retention not get a use so this is his answer Parx where you're like you
know this my best video it only has like 3% CTR but my recent video has 10% CTR but YouTube isn't showing it as much that doesn't make any sense um and what that is usually about is um the CTR and to a lesser extent your like audience retention is heavily influenced by the audience that has seen the impression and so if you have a let's just say you normally get you know 10,000 views on a video and maybe 100,000 Impressions if you have a new video that's only had say 10,000 Impressions odds are that those
Impressions were to highly qualified viewers watch the Channel all the time you just wait for that notification or are consuming in the sub speed and so those viewers are going to have a higher um clickthrough rate and um as as um videos tend to get more Impressions they reach less qualified audience and so the CTR tends to go down and that's why so yeah again that's a really good example of how kind of YouTube Studio can mislead viewers so it's really important to understand these paradoxes and I will explain more on future videos but again
I hope this was super valuable um there's a bunch more content that I want to discuss this is just a super quick late night rambling session it's like 1:00 a.m. right now so again late night R rambling session I hope it was a valuable video and uh yeah I'll wrap it up here and if you have any comments I'll address it in future videos so uh cheers I'll see you all later byebye
