Wait, Demon Slayer Corps Sucks?! (as an organization)

alright you've seen the thumbnail and thought how can this be it must be a clickbait to draw attention no the way the demon slayer core operates is second only to this college dropout in terms of lack of efficiency and common sense it's a [ __ ] miracle also known as plot armor that they've managed to secure a w and i have about five reasons that will back that up hello comrade my name is maris come get yourself a beverage and sit down with me we got an organization to dissect right off the bat i'll issue

a spoiler warning for manga especially i will selectively use information that we learned later or should have learned in the anime without any heads up i'm not going to fundamentally spoil you the plot other than the good guys win hooray nobody saw that coming but more about specific characters also these five points i have are not distinctly defined rather one thing comes from another and so on here's a little chart of what to expect we will go through the people involved structure training recruitment and general strategy that they employ to get a perspective and see

what's done right what's done wrong and we will start with the center of this organization the current 90-something leader kagaya that's rough buddy ubuyashiki and i'm not exaggerating in the slightest men's cursed with an illness and short lifespan had to step up at a very young age to pick up the pieces after his dad went for the milk japanese style there's actually nothing remotely funny here it's the problem of biblical proportions over there i do try to mask a lot of dark [ __ ] with a joke or goof but that doesn't make things less

[ __ ] up moving on overall a very good and caring guy but he has a little some something up his sleeve an ability called farsight which he along with his predecessors used to gain wealth and fortune to subsequently fund the demon's lair core ok now we know where some of the monies are coming from and possibly how the entire supply chain was established great but apparently it works on demons too and here's where the things are getting interesting he can predict disasters and act accordingly send the slayers where the demon is and easy peasy

squeezy then how the [ __ ] are the demons still alive in kicking well even in the show we see that this power is hella inconsistent examples mount natagumo where we've seen several groups of slayers bodied mercilessly 80 recent ish victims in the cocoons even without supernatural abilities you got to realize shit's [ __ ] up over there yet still main character aside he sends three lowest of the low and only when he realizes that the show might be over soon sends two hasheras secondly there is entertainment district arguably the biggest disaster demons have caused

recently and tangent went there on his own accord if yes then foresight is useless again if not then why the hell did abunai arrive so late on top of the fact that tengen should have had somebody to begin with because his family is in danger and that will prevent him from making the right decisions potentially we'll get back to that for now this future telling thing is a questionable source of information regards to demons to say the least this is where it all starts to collapse for me it's okay not to have information on demons

locations plans numbers etc it's not okay to make no attempts at gaining that information we haven't seen a single scout nor spy who would go around gathering information since the internet hasn't been invented yet and the news takes time to spread and i know what you're thinking hold that thought that means that kagaya is relying heavily on his ability to simply know when shit's happening at the cost of acquiring information and making calculated assumptions that's a ginormous problem because he's no longer thinking proactively and it results exactly what we see a reactive problem solving the

demonstra core is always one step behind until an absolute unit of a sunbreather shows up back to your thoughts there are people who gather intel three of them in fact the issue is that they're a recent one-of-a-kind addition to the organization thanks to tengen and what happens to them they are investigating in one area all three of them mind you and go dark a trio of kunuichis who were trained their entire life in the ways of shinobi which is espionage and assassination go dark while undercover in a populated area with zero traces why tengen went

there with a makeshift party is totally understandable why he didn't tell hu or why nobody else reported him for taking kids on the mission or why he wasn't given any backup if they did know is [ __ ] incomprehensible you lost three of your only trained spies that's a [ __ ] moon at least maybe even an upper one kagaya doesn't need four side or triple digit iq to figure it out and send all they have there well within reason of course remember he didn't have a problem sending two hashiras to mount natagumo why not

do that now when this time you have days to respond not hours coming back to the structure other than hq there is butterfly mansion and other training recreational facilities a village of blacksmith final selection grounds and a sprinkle of some other quality of life things in there that's basically an entire industry dedicated to slaying demons with centuries of experience traditions and generations of people involved don't tell me the government doesn't know about them there is a difference between not knowing and not recognizing but that's a story for another day then we have our wonderful selfless

employees there are the slayers hashira tsuguku donkey never seen and porn blah blah blah mizunoto and the supporting cast i mean kakushi now let me talk about hashira for a second yes they are rather young but as pillars they should command respect and set an example instead they come off as clowns in this demon slayer circus and i'm not talking about their design we first see them during a trial for tanjiro and niziko they're voicing their thoughts like kill them and so on that's fine they are a jury trying to figure out what to do

but that's when i realized that they are not interested in defeating musan they only care about killing demons because think about it we got a demon willingly accompanying a slayer and even fighting on our side that's a golden opportunity to learn more about demons and therefore of any ways of destroying smooth criminal it's an unprecedented situation and you want to waste it then this schmuck comes stops nezuko and behaves like a dick in general but as soon as the boss comes in he's polite and submissive kneels to him bravo respect respect my ass what he

is doing is the furthest thing from respect it's hypocrisy what does trial mean it means that we are not certain about something and need to look into it subsequently there is a chance that nezuko and tanjiro are innocent he was kageya's decision to secure them and bring them to the mansion and this [ __ ] disregards all that disrespect his boss's decisions and does whatever he wants in his boss's [ __ ] house he behaves like a kindergarten kid whose mom turned away and that's not all then there's a letter from rokadaki who vouches for

indesiku was he is geyus and tanjiro's life you know back in the day words meant something especially in that culture especially in the samurai-esque society i mean demon slayers not the general public i understand them dismissing our boy he is a nobody here but an ex hashira who lived till his hair went white and beyond in a profession where people usually die before they can legally drink with the current hashiro and tandem says that this demon is legit plus proof from recent battle and these [ __ ] have a nerve to disregard their result like

that show do you seriously want me to respect these juvenile short-sighted simpletons kagaya was the only one making sense there maybe shinobu as well if you wonder why this organization that has resources and wall hacks struggles to defeat the demons that's how their entire management because they are part of the decision making is a [ __ ] if sanemi showed up took nezuko and said something like hey kid you think you're safe just because the master wants to see you you are special neither is this demon i will prove it just wait till the master

gets here he'll still be a dick taunt tangero and be offensive to nezuko but simultaneously respectful to the boss and his decisions rengoku should have said i admire the resolve i will believe it on behalf of my comrades testimony but i will not accept the demon into our ranks and shinobu could have left her inner scientist out and say nezuko can be a key to destroying muza let's not make rash decisions all of that would show hasheras having different personality as well as them using their brains while being respective yet stern and before you throw

rocks at me i understand sanemi needed to hint his blood and other [ __ ] rengoku should have said that to later accept nezuko and so on i can't help but compare them to akatsuki they are all unique snowflakes but they behave like rational adults united by common goals while still having their differences [ __ ] the most competent of the bunch are the granny and the support squad they do their damn job and the results are great i don't have much to say they clean up actually save and heal people even make them stronger

hands down the best and most productive branch of the organization then all the other slayers unless they have some color in their clothes they are a useless demon food except for murata burrata is good oh and how could i forget retired hashira we have a conflict lasting millennia with no foreseeable end the quality of demon slayers going down demons are more rampant than ever before and they're just chilling ok rakdaki be training pupils but it looks like he only succeeded in making a stronger demon until tundra showed up as much as i like him he

has sent over a dozen kids to their doom zenitsu's teacher actually great stuff until you learn about his other student rangoku's dad just wasting his life and resources with alcoholism and other mental issues the corps does have specialists to heal demon victims why not help him and wait somebody can just quit i understand tengen he got severely injured but he can still train he can still teach why does this organization let their most valuable experienced people go can you imagine if they teamed up to train people in a dedicated facility so they get different perspectives

cater to students individual strength it's not some modern day crap where you can hire a bunch of inexperienced dudes who don't know any better to work on tough projects and bleed them dry we're talking about thousands of lives endangered employees dying left and right and i don't need to repeat myself but okay sure they still train good thing they have a decent system with breathing exercises and all which takes years it's important for two reasons first i love it no three day bunkai [ __ ] second you can't replenish demon slayers easily but look at

the rate they're losing them if it's not tangiero in company they just die mount natagumo as an example again you got to have an entire university dedicated to training slayers to maintain that this reminds me a lot about witchers they take little dudes run them through mutation process with only 10 survival rate then another half dies during the training or to some drowner soon after according to geralt no wonder there was never a lot of them and they basically died out in a few centuries no amount of retired hashira can sustain that and that's not

accounting for the final selection survival of the fittest hell yeah 4 out of 5 kids will die but we're getting them ready for the real fight [ __ ] you're wasting precious resources that take years to create humans that have at least some idea of what demons are and how to fight them if muza needed an army he would have done so overnight if he was smart and [ __ ] yes they would be basic but good luck fighting a battle against them while trying to save people and fighting off moons most of the examinees

are not ready but there is a better way to train them and prepare them for a real deal use demons capture one basic maybe slightly interesting one with extra appendages or whatever trap them in the wisteria garden give a trainee a regular sword with an actual slayer on standby just in case then hack and slash to your heart's content demons will just regenerate and who other than tangero will care about how they feel you have a perfect dummy that will also learn and fight back differently over time that's great for training should the exam be

harsh yes up so [ __ ] lootly that's a brutal job that requires the toughest sons of [ __ ] of them all but that doesn't mean that the other kids can't be useful look at how great aoi is she is helping people train recover and so on imagine more of those to help others alas they do have one training regimen that they really like the hashira training that's when the regular slayers go through intense training with different hashira overseeing a different part then they participate in the brawl against each other that's awesome on many

levels first it's a great exercise secondly everyone gets involved lower ranks can see what the hashida is while hashira get to test their endurance at fighting many opponents thirdly team building and camaraderie very good stuff now it's time for the missions get a crow and go wherever it says i take it kagaya is using his foresight to guide them granted but it's inconsistent tengen took our squad this time and there was no crows involved so again who sent who is not clear nevertheless the process is to go to town find the demon and kill it

sounds simple enough but we don't have a demon scanner so are we detectives now if tanjiru was not mc with his smell how would he find that dude once again you need training what are the demons tactics how to exploit them how to bait them how to talk to people you can't just show up and ask well if it's one time sure but dozens if not hundreds of slayers are hunting the world would get around about armed militaristic i'm talking about uniform [ __ ] asking weird questions and scaring local population also not confirmed but

talking to crows too damn i really want to see a solo and noski mission and how he handles conversations finally they found the demon exchange their life stories and all that shonen stuff it won't go down quietly do you think nobody is going to notice the sound of fighting have you tried to smack something with a metal rod or run as fast as you could now imagine that in the middle of the night no cars no other sounds just nature ambience and don't forget yelling what a wheel on top of your lungs you will attract

so much attention it's not even funny okay dude the demon is dead now the cleanup crew is showing up they aren't invisible either them warning joggers will spot and report their helpful asses what i'm trying to say here is that they will have run-ins with the law enforcement depending on how government will tackle it they might have to fight an entirely different battle this time legal which will drain resources and time like crazy alright i've saved the best for last the overall strategy of demon slayer core and why it's not viable we have established that

demon slayers are few in numbers and take long time to train while demons are getting stronger and more prominent sending one dude to fight a demon is risky but they probably know that demons are usually solitary thanks to muzon maybe that's why mount natakuma was such a disaster they've never expected an entire family of demons which again speaks to how bad foresight is in these situations also risky because if a slayer fails demons get stronger shadow of mordor got that pretty good that's why scouting is important evaluating the threat will give you an opportunity to

come up with an adequate response to fix that they sometimes send hashira right away we've seen that twice it backfired in the mugen train because for the first and only time the enemy got back up and basically trumped everything we had and in the entertainment district they barely had enough plot armor was during [ __ ] overtime to carry them in both situations backup was important akaza showed up late but he managed to get a w and openeye showed up way too late which cost us the hashira and god knows how many regular people for

the second time i think of akatsuki they have 10 targets while having 10 members the answer is simple math adds up perfectly instead paint sends groups of 2 because a team is better than the sum of its parts it opens up many tactical opportunities and there is a number advantage over the enemy i understand that there is no easy answer to defeating muzak but demon slayer core doesn't seem to be looking for any they just rely on demon attack survivors to become slayers while actively trying to kill them in the process then they take all

the possible risks of going in blind mostly 101 with no backup or any contingency plan do it or die trying is the way the organization is run based on what we see and it's fundamentally wrong if you want to win in the long run instead their mentality should be due even if it kills you plus all the other [ __ ] i was talking about it was i mahes ranting into the microphone have a great uh whatever time of the day you have until next time cheers and i'm not and i'm not exactly and i'm
