the mutants of the Marvel Universe are quite diverse and not all of them are created equal on one hand you have someone like storm who's an absolute Powerhouse and can B nature to her will and on the other hand you'll find several mutants whose abilities are insignificant in comparison so what is it that separates them and what are the real classifications of their power levels in this video we'll dive deep into everything you need to know about the various mutant categories and the mutant classification system will be simplified like never before before we go into
our explanation we have a very small request if you like our content please support us by subscribing to our Channel this is a small click for you but for us it means a lot thank you let's [Music] begin what is a mutant by definition in the Marvel Universe before we head into exploring the mutants in various categories let's first understand the basic definition of a mutant in the Marvel Universe the real world offers several meanings to the word mutant but within the Marvel Universe a mutant is simply any individual who's born with the X Gene
due to this genetic difference these individuals show their powers early in their life usually during puberty although there are some who manifest their powers even earlier thus it will be fair to remark that all mutants are born with their unique genetics and the ones whose special abilities come from external forces are not considered mutants at all for this reason you will never see someone referring to the liks of SPID sperman Hulk and Captain America as mutants even the ones who are born with special powers are not necessarily mutants because the power did not come from
the ex Gene in many cases someone like Thor was born with all his Godlike abilities and even the members of the group called Inhumans have inborn powers but none of them are viewed as mutants by definition for those born with enhanced genetics it's also a complicated scenario because they will only be considered as mutants if they possess the X Gene of course the world of comic books is quite extensive and there are a few ERS who have made an exception to the general rule of mutants in certain cases however such inconsistencies cannot change the basic
definition of the term and to keep things simple just understand this a person is only a mutant if they possess the X Gene and have their powers from birth and both these conditions have to be met without any exception now that we've cleared the air around what a mutant actually is let's check out the major categories of mutants that one might come across in the Marvel Universe [Music] Omega Level mutants this is the official boss level of mutants and the Omega Level mutants are easily the most powerful among all mutants out there for a very
long time the strongest mutants in the X-Men Universe were not officially outlined but the house of X rebranding shed some light in this regard there was even an official list of all the Omega Level mutants in simple words the Omega Level mutants are those individuals who have a specific power that does not have a definable upper limit Marvel uses the examples of Magneto and Forge to clarify the specification of Omega Level mutants while both of them are powerful mutants in their respective Fields magnetism and technopathy only Magneto is an Omega Level mutant and Forge is
not this is because Forge has an upper limit to his powers and hypothetically his powers can be surpassed on the other hand the true extent of Magneto's Powers remains a mystery and we're surprised time and time again with new instances of his extreme power levels he cannot be surpassed in his power domain by any measurable fashion and thus he is a true Omega Level mutant as of now Marvel roughly recognizes 25 Omega Level mutants and it's also worth noting that there can be multiple Omega Level mutants for one particular power type for example Jean Gray
and Quinton choir are both Omega Level telepaths and a few other power categories also have more than one Omega Level mutant in them another thing to consider is the fact that an Omega Level mutant is not a static condition and one can evolve into an Omega Level mutant over time Iceman is one example of a non- Omega Level mutant who graduated to this level as his powers grew consistently over time these mutants are EX extremely important for the future of mutant kind and their presence often acts as a deterrent to any wrongful and biased actions
taken against mutants by humans since the Omega Level mutants are so powerful the X-Men always have a tendency to have a few of them in the team so that the mutant superheroes can deal with any form of threat some of the major Omega Level mutants apart from the ones we discussed are storm Exodus Legion Monarch Hope Summers Elixir and Genesis among others it's quite likely that the X-Men Universe has not revealed all the Omega Mega level mutants yet and there might be some Secrets around a few known mutants that will push them up to this
level with Time new characters can always be introduced and hence the official list of 25 Omega Level mutants is always subject to change of course we'll be there to update you with the changes if and when it actually happens you know the whole Alpha level mutants the alpha level mutants are regarded as the second most powerful group of mutants right after to the Omega Level mutants only around 10% of all mutants fall under this category and thus they are fairly rare the only thing that separates them from the Omega Level mutants is that they have
a limitation to their powers however they're still extremely powerful and dangerous and any Alpha level mutant is capable of becoming a global threat they might not be omnipotent as such but they still pack quite a punch the alpha level mutants have the most common superhuman abilities in terms of the usual superhero powers that you come across in the Marvel Universe these mutants are also in complete control of their powers within their reasonable limits and some of the most popular and celebrated mutants in the X-Men Universe fall in this category many would be surprised to know
that Professor Xavier regarded as the founder and father figure of the X-Men is actually an alpha level mutant and not an Omega Level mutant Powerhouse even Cyclops with his unique power of shooting energy beams from his eyes is an alpha level mutant just like a mutant can be promoted into the Omega Level category an alpha level mutant can be weakened and have depleted powers to fall out of the category as well it also works the other way around and Rogue who started off as a beta level mutant slowly turned into an alpha level threat after
she learned to control and use her powers properly some of the other major Alpha level mutants are Bishop Sebastian Shaw dazzler magic havoc and Sunfire beta level mutants as the name suggests beta level mutants are a notch less powerful than their Alpha level counterparts these mutants have certain abilities that have some practical application but they usually have minimal uses they also don't pose much of a threat especially to the above two categories of mutants as we've discussed already Rogue used to be a beta level mutant till the time she learned to control the extent of
her powers and like her there are some other promising beta level mutants who are waiting to find their Mojo and move up the ranks while they don't match up to their superiors in terms of power they can still be dangerous for humans if a powerful beta level mutant goes Rogue it could be a subject of concern Gambit Colossus and Beast are of the familiar faces among the beta level mutants out there Epsilon level mutants these mutants are largely regarded as the ones at the lowest end of the mutant power segment and they usually have non-combative
powers which are not lethal in many of the Epsilon level mutants their special abilities are simply one of their physical mutations and these are not useful for any practical purposes a suitable example of a mutant in this category is artyx whose only special power is to project Holograms as you can imagine the uses of such abilities are limited and Epsilon level mutants often become the easiest targets of mutant hating groups for this reason beak is another notable Epsilon level mutant and his only power as his name suggests is his physical condition that's not too useful
in serious circumstances if someone had the ability to conjure alcohol out of thin air he would be an Epsilon level mutant useful for party tricks but useless against Magneto of course we would personally rate someone with such abilities as nothing short of an Omega Level savior these four categories are the broad classifications of all the diverse range of mutants out there but the large number of mutants in the Marvel Universe have led to some other subcategories which deserve your attention just the same in the following segment of the video we'll look into all the other
classifications of mutants although you might still broadly classify them under the four major groups that we've discussed up to this [Music] point Zeta level mutants for a long time this category of mutants was not considered as a part of the official mutant classification because their recognition as mutants is a bit controversial however it's probably time to include them in the overall list and they're the lowest level of latent mutants The Zeta level mutants are those whose Next Generation might end up with mutant abilities even though they do not have these abilities themselves it's considered iffy
because of this reason and some Zeta level mutants are said to have the X Gene even though it's not active in them these mutants may have other special powers or abilities but these powers do not come from being a mutant under this category Spider-Man should technically be seen as a Zeta level mutant but in the Marvel Universe he's not considered one with we'd love to hear your opinions on this gamma level mutants the gamma level mutants are those individuals whose mutations have given them a special altered appearance this is probably the only category of mutants
who are defined by their appearance and not by their power levels that being said the powers of the gamma level mutants are obviously lesser than their Alpha level counterparts Nightcrawler and Beast are classic examples of gamma level mutants because their appearances cannot be hidden away from the public eye even blob with his large mass is a gamma level mutant and his exceptionally large body mass cannot be concealed by any [Music] means come on come on come on Delta level mutants we usually consider those mutants who have no detrimental qualities in their mutations to be under
the Delta level category however they're also not significantly powerful and mostly appear as ordinary humans with one or more highly specific Powers this category includes the vast majority of all mutants out there with over 50% being classified as Delta level mutants and they're no match for their Superior counterparts even though their powers can be useful in certain circumstances some classic examples of Delta level mutants are Forge with his mutant Power Of Invention and Wallflower with the incredible pheron control long shot's good luck charm and Cipher omn linguis also fall under this category aside from these
well-defined mutant classifications there are also a few other important categories that happen to include some of the most powerful mutants in the Marvel Universe and in the following segment we'll look to shed some light on these lesser known types externals the long living ancient mutants when Rob lifei first came up with the idea of externals little did he know that this category would bring into existence some of the toughest mutants of all time including the greatest threat ever encountered by the X-Men yes you guessed it right apocalypse is one of the externals who are basically
a category of near Immortal mutants with specific powers that have allowed them to live for hundreds of centuries a majority of the externals were killed by Seline who's one of the oldest known human mutants later apocalypse killed many other externals and some of the other mutants worth noting from this category are Saul Absalon kandra and kru all about the dominant species mutants or lupines there's an interesting Theory propagated by a mutant named Romulus and he suggested that all human mutants evolve from canines and not primates there's no substantial supporting data to uphold this claim but
it's an intriguing Theory especially if you consider the lupines a feral group of mutants with certain wolf-like powers and abilities Maximus Lobo who claims to be part of the group himself suggests that this is a dominant species among mutants and we cannot dismiss his remarks because some of the most dangerous mutants in the X-Men Universe are actually lupines Wolverine one of the most popular X-Men members is a Lupine and some other well-known lupines include daan Sabertooth Ferell Thorn wolf cub and wolf Bane chimeras genetic gentically altered humanoid mutants we first heard of the chimeras when
the house of X and powers of X story arcs explored more about these unique mutants these genetically altered humanoid mutants are created by combining the DNA of past mutants and the purpose is to bring together the powers of the old and expand them further among the mutant population of course the genetic modifications take a toll on the success rate of these mutants and the third generation of chimeras has a 10% failure rate while the fourth generation has a corrupted hive mind Mr Sinister the infamous geneticist created his first Chimera when he spliced his own DNA
samples and combined them with the DNA samples of an Iraqi named Tarn his experiment failed but Mr Sinister was determined to continue his research on the chimeras even after the Council of kcoa of the mutant Nation found out about his ideas there's even a story arc titled sins of sinister where Mr Sinister successfully takes over the world with the chimeras that he created some of the known mutants of this category are cardinal Rasputin IV North hot Claus and Sage advisers cardinal created from the genes of Nightcrawler Rachel Summers and Francis Fanny is perhaps the most
notable among the [Music] chimeras who are the sharim and the naaim mutants the world of mutants is so diverse that it's difficult to convey every mutant under the commonly known classifications the sharim and the naaim are great examples of the exclusions that do not fall under the known categories a zazil who's a Naim himself revealed more about these mutant types the sharim are angel-like mutants who have been living since the Biblical times they had a very strict and absolutist view of morality and this caused them to come into conflict with the nathem mutants who are
demonic looking and also from Biblical times their conflict resulted in a holy war and finally the naaim were exiled to an alternate Dimension it's not known what happened to the Victorious sharim mutants but Angel and Icarus are supposedly their descendants meanwhile Nightcrawler who's the son of a zazil is one of the Naim mutants in modern times kill crops AKA changelings we've already spoken about how the mutant abilities often manifest during puberty in most mutant individuals but there are also some who show signs of their powers at Birth instead of during adolescence these mutants are called
changelings or kill crops and some even dub them as replacement people it's largely believed that the reason behind the delay in the onset of mutant Powers is simply to increase the chances of survival in the past it was a common practice to murder mutants in infancy or abandon them at Birth and it can simply be an evolutionary trade that slowly the mutant power started manifesting with a slight delay to buy individuals some time in this context the kill crops can be termed as less modified individuals but make no mistake some of the mutants in this
category are extremely powerful the likes of Damen trip and Jamie madro are some of the well-known changelings and their powers manifested at Birth unlike most other mutants out there extraterrestrial mutants you would be greatly mistaken if you think that mutants are only humans and from Earth because there's an entire category of extraterrestrial mutants who have entirely different Origins one of the most popular extraterrestrial mutants is Ariel who has incredible teleportation abilities she becomes an ally of the X-Men but not before working briefly with the mutant criminal named vanisher other mutants who fall under this category
are longshot warlock brew cice and Ultra girl Superior human mutants are they even mutants in the first place the only reason we're putting in this category in our video is because of Vargas who claims to be homo Superior Superior basically he's genetically perfect and he believes that he's a natural response of humanity to the dominance of mutant Powers Vargas has superhuman strength and speed and his combat skills keep him at par with some of the deadliest mutants out there when he came into conflict with the X-Men Vargas proved himself to be immune to some of
the mutant abilities such as Rogues absorption powers and psylock telekinetic abilities however all said and done it would be unfair to consider Vargas as a true mutant because he lacks the X Gene in his DNA as we've discussed at the beginning of this video having the X Gene is one of the prerequisites to being called imute and clearly Vargas doesn't fall into this category but we've still chosen to include him in our list because he's not fully human either and this unique specimen deserves to have his own category maybe as a subspecies of [Music] mutants
marvelous verdict mutant classification is a fascinating world of exceptions the vast world of mutants in the Marvel Universe and the numerous mutant characters out there mean that we can never truly cover every last one of them however we hope that our analysis and exploration gave you some new information and also a basic idea about the classification that's at work here while most will tell you about the four main mutant categories the exceptions are far too many and have to be considered as well and this was our humble attempt to do the same don't forget to
