hey guys welcome to lingo marina today we're having another interactive class we are going to a grocery store we're going to do some grocery shopping in your country you might say supermarket but in the u.s we tend to say grocery store let's go get some groceries the first thing that you do is get a shopping cart just cart this car this cart is fine yeah get a cart you can say i'm at a grocery store which means you are referring to a place where you can buy groceries and you can say i'm in a grocery
store and here you're just referring to something that is surrounded by walls so basically both ways are right you can say at a grocery store and in a grocery store this is a wholesale store which means that when you buy things you buy them in bulk you can't just get one banana you have to get 10 bananas you can't just get one battery you need to get a load of batteries so i would call it a serving plate but you would call it a lazy susan why is it lazy susan i don't know the origins
of that but it's just called the ladies even yeah it's right you see yeah i know it's just weird like how people come up with names by the way guys if you don't know venia we host a lot of language courses together a lot a lot a lot and if you want to join one of them the link will be down below i will tell you more later in this video [Music] okay we're entering produce section at a produce section you have different vegetables and fruit pears apples mangosteen i don't know guys if you've heard
of it but when i was in thailand i ate a lot of dogs let's grab money something you have to remember in america we have produce that's organic and normally at costco for example the price tags will be green and they would be a little more expensive but i feel they're a lot tastier i actually like doing my grocery shopping at a farmer's market normally it's super expensive but the quality is the best if i have to buy my groceries at a grocery store i would only buy organic stuff which means there are less pesticides
less chemicals and because we have two babies at home i just try to eat healthy so organic versus non-organic produce we're entering the deli section this is where you find cheeses ham fish different platters for party food that's ready to go food that's ready to consume daily section [Music] can you explain what rotisserie chicken means yeah because they spin it when they cook film get rid of it [Music] rotation that's what i think at least i don't know in america a lot of things are sold ready for example you can find a party tray where
your cheese will be already sliced so you can just serve it at a party and because we're actually getting ready for a party that we're throwing tomorrow this would be oh yeah this will be our first party that we're throwing um here in the u.s so we're just buying things that are party ready like this variety tray cheeses and by the way guys look at the prices there in in us dollars let me know if it is less or more expensive compared to your country we're in a section where you can buy meat that's just
meat you know poultry that means chicken turkey birds basically and pork and you can also buy fish we talked about vegetables being organic and non-organic same with fish you can have wild caught fish which would be just swimming in the ocean and it's caught or we can have farm-raised fish which is raised on a farm so some people prefer wild cod just because it's swimming by itself and eating good stuff but some people actually argue that wild caught fish eat stuff that is bad for us so it's really a personal preference we normally buy wild
caught fish this is salmon the red fish is salmon tilapia is a white fish and the best white fish is sea bass my favorite you can buy crab for 19.99 [Music] remember i told you i'm going to talk about our course tada i'm presenting the course the course is called from intermediate to advanced and there are two ways you can take it first way you can just take it as a course 30 day course classes every day homework etc second mode challenge mode this is where we pair you with somebody else so you can create
a team practice english together do homework together and most importantly we're gonna rank you based on how much you've done how much you've progressed and we're going to give you prizes we have two iphones we have study abroad trips we have free classes with our language coach we have our free workbook this course has been taken by over 10 000 students and if you're willing to join them we're starting really soon the link will be down below with a special promo code from me and if you want to get the most out of your course
if you want to take it in a challenge mode and have somebody else practice with you choose the pro package the link is down below looking forward to seeing you at the course first of all one thing you should know so in america we have sparkling water which is this water with bubbles carbonated water and then we have soda which is a word that we used to talk about like coca-cola pepsi and all of those sweet drinks that would be soda this i mean some people could call it soda water fizzy water but sparking water
would be the most neutral way to describe that this is a great listening comprehension task for you guys because he's wearing masks i'm trying to take it off just for the purpose of recording this video but anyway another word that i wanted you to know is lacroix lacroix is actually a very popular type of drink here in california like you can find it almost everywhere this is just sparkling water mixed with some juice and it's actually a brand but people use it all the time like do you want a la croix oh yeah yes please
right here we have our dairy section they sell milk yogurt butter sour cream cream whipped cream and creamers here by the way something you should know about cream there is whipping cream heavy cream something that you whip and you get like something you can put on a cake there's also half and half which is like milk mixed with cream and this is something you can put in your coffee if you like this milkier taste we're entering cleaning supplies section this is where you can find your laundry detergent something that you use to clean your clothes
laundry detergent dishwasher detergent fabric softener dusters and right behind me is pet supply section everything that you need for your dogs and cats hamsters birds pet supply section this is our frozen food section basically they sell frozen food frozen fish frozen shrimp frozen patties patty is like a like a burger patty like it's ground beef shaped into a patty like a flat you make you make a ball and you flatten it that's a fatty these are patties so you basically take them and you make your burgers [Music] this is our essentials section they sell essential
goods here like toothpaste um like soap like shower gel like shampoos if you can pick something up that means it's in stock if something is finished we can say it's out of stock [Music] okay we're done shopping we're going to checkout and sometimes you can say i'm going to the register to check out to pay and to go home [Music] we're at the checkout i need to prepare my membership card because costco is a membership only grocery store so you actually have to pay 60 a year to come here but then they give you one
percent cash back which means if i spend a hundred dollars here i get one dollar back so i'm gonna prepare my membership card and we're gonna check out oscar has one of the best churns in the history and the churn is like 99 per year or something like that that means that out of 100 people only 9 give up their membership every year which is really good [Music] we're gonna have an exciting day tomorrow tomorrow is the party day and this is what we're shopping for postage stamp price increased august 29th buy them now it's
done forever that's actually sometimes it's a really good investment to buy postage if you mail a lot because yeah you can still use them in 20 years even if the price increases yeah it's like an investment all right let's do it 395.54 sorry one technical issue here is our receipt i just told you at the cashier that the price was 300 something but it's actually 400 because um in the us when you see the final price it's actually exclusive of tax and then you go to the cashier to the register and they add tax on
top of some goodies so for example when you buy food it's normally tax free but if you buy something like i know glasses or mouthwash i think they would just add some tax on top and one more thing if you ever come to the us come to costco costco is this whole american experience when you buy things in bulk yes you need a membership maybe you can find a friend who has a membership and it's more like a lifestyle a lifestyle of hunting for deals a lifestyle of saving a lifestyle of just you know enjoying
we just had so much fun walking around the store with friends and chatting to you guys thank you so much for watching this video up to the very end if you're not yet subscribed this channel hit the red button down below lego marina say bye bye
