hi it's Katrina my friend David is going to be helping me out with the voiceover today so everyone give him a warm welcome number 10 Kane and Abel the story of Cain and Abel is one of the most well-known biblical Legends according to the holy book Kane and Abel were brothers who were asked by God to bring sacrifices to him God accepted Abel's sacrifice but rejected the gift brought by Cain this caused Kane to become jealous and it filled him with a murderous rage so he took his brother out to the field and killed him because of his awful sin Cain was sent away into Exile and was branded as evil Kane was the firstborn son of Adam and Eve after their expulsion from the Garden of Eden Cain as the second man on Earth learned a way of Agriculture his younger brother Abel took on the role of a simple Shepherd biblical scholars believe the story from the Old Testament is a metaphor for the evolution of the human species the war between Homo sapiens and Neanderthals and the extinction of cave men in this Theory Kane represents the human species while his younger brother the one who is so favored by God represents the Neanderthals Adam the father of both Homo sapiens and Neanderthals is the common ancestor from which both these human species originated and just like in real life Cain who represented modern humans murders Abel the entire species of Neanderthal we know this likely happened because of the archaeological record Duke University scientists discovered the corpse of a murdered Neanderthal named shanadar III he was killed by a human spear through the ribs about 50 000 years ago it's not reasonable to believe that these were the prehistoric cane and able fighting but it does show that human violence against neanderthals was real scientists even found a neanderthal body from 36 000 years ago that was scalped by a human but how does all this fit in with the Bible Well if this theory is correct the old Testament story of Cain and Abel is a retelling of human evolution how the writers of the Bible could know such a thing as Beyond understanding but Cain and Abel do seem to correlate to two different species Fighting For the Love of their god with one murdering the other in a jealous rage in this case humans killed neanderthals and brought death into the world number nine the sons of zadok the bloodline of Moses and his brother Aaron is one of the greatest biblical Mysteries that's never been solved one of the characters that's always intrigued biblical Scholars is zadok whose name in Hebrew means Justified according to the holy book zadak was a descendant of elieza who was one of the sons of Aaron he became high priest of Israel during the reign of King David the same man who slayed the Giant Goliath he then continued to be high priest during the reign of David's son the biblical wizard King Solomon zadok helped King David when his son Absalom revolted against him he was also one of the instrumental figures in securing the throne for Solomon then after Solomon built the first temple in Jerusalem the legendary Temple that no longer stands he served as the high priest there Aaron is considered to be the first high priest of Judaism his brother Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and Aaron took on the role of religious leader his son fans picked up the mantle after him spawning generation after generation of high priests this wasn't just a case of nepotism though it was a covenant between Aaron and God Since Aaron was God's chosen priest it was agreed that only his descendants could ever be priests this ushered in the age of the zadokites arenson elieza became the next priest and after that his son zadok took on the role and his sons continued on with this pattern this lasted all the way from about a thousand BC to 167 BC with the rise of the hasmoneans with the hasmanians came the influence of Hellenistic Greece which may have started to erode ancient Traditions the maccabean Revolt of the 2nd Century BC was to fight against Hellenistic influence but it ended with this seleucid Empire defeating the Jews and imposing even more of their influence upon them and this is where history loses the bloodline of zadak and the zadakites many believe the blood still run strong somewhere in the Jewish Community but there are no more zadok High priests that we know of and now for number eight but first I wanted to give a big shout out to Matt Richards and KT thanks so much for watching and supporting OE if you're new here be sure to subscribe and join the family number eight the seven Demons of Mary Magdalene the mystery of Mary Magdalene starts with the New Testament we know her hometown was magdala on the shore of the Sea of Galilee she like Jesus's other disciples was attracted to him but when the men in his company abandoned Jesus in his hour of need Mary stayed by his side she was there at the crucifixion and she was present at his tomb she was also the first person to whom Jesus appeared after he was resurrected this is according to what's written in the gospels but if we look beyond the Bible to the non-canonical texts early religious writing that was never included in the Bible we see Mary Magdalene may have even been Jesus's wife some believe that Mary was a prostitute but this belief only appeared around the 3rd Century A. D when the church really started to hate on women with their full force one of the strangest stories of Mary appeared in the gospel of Mark in the King James version Mark 16 9 says he appeared first to Mary Magdalene out of whom he had cast Seven Devils but what in the world does this mean we see it again in the Gospel of Luke in which it's briefly mentioned that Mary had seven Devils cast out of her the Seven Devils were likely meant to be evil spirits during the First Century A. D in which Jesus was alive someone having Spirits or Devils inside them was directly related to demonic possession which itself was most likely connected to mental illness anyone who had something mentally wrong with them or a sickness of the Mind was believed to be possessed by evil forces it might be a bit of a stretch but some Scholars have suggested that based on the fact that Jesus cured Mary Magdalene of seven demons means she was mentally ill locals in magdala may have thought Mary was crazy but then Jesus showed up recruited her to his band of followers and potentially even married her number 7.
adoptionism adoptionism is a bizarre branch of Christianity in which its followers believed Jesus Christ was born a human baby they reject the idea that Mary Jesus's mom was a virgin instead those who trust the ideals of adoptionism believe God adopted Jesus later in life Jesus only earned his title of Christ through a lifetime of Devotion to God he wasn't the true Son of God in any way he just devoted his life to a supreme deity and was awarded for his efforts adoptionism was one of the first major branches of Christianity in the early days after Jesus died historians think it was a way for early Christians to reconcile the idea that Jesus was born of a miracle when they'd grown up with the hardcore monotheism of Judaism for Jews both ancient and current a Divine Trinity is unacceptable to them the very idea is downright heresy the main difference between Judaism and Christianity is that Jews don't accept Christ adoptionism was a way for Jews who were wanting to convert to make sense of Jesus without being heretical they could accept that Jesus was somewhat Divine but that his divinity came from God as an adoption gift as you can probably guess adoptionism wasn't something that church was very enthusiastic about by the second Century A. D adoptionism was considered heresy and we all know what happened to Heretics they died strapped to a pole that for some was set on fire number six David and Solomon the two first legendary Kings of Israel were David and Solomon we discussed them briefly earlier when talking about the zadakites but were these really Kings of Israel or simply figures in a book David defeated the Philistine Giant and was crowned King then his son Solomon was given otherworldly knowledge incredible magic powers and unbelievable wealth Israel Finkelstein and Neil Asher Silberman wrote an entire book on the subject in their book the scholars discuss how the real physical extent of King David's Empire is a hot subject for debate excavations in Jerusalem have failed time and time again to produce evidence that Jerusalem was a great City in the Bible Jerusalem is a wonderful place that was ruled by a mighty Empire roughly three thousand years ago but the physical evidence says otherwise even monuments previously attributed to King Solomon have turned out to be connected to other kings from different times it's a tough pill to swallow but archeology says the Old Testament exaggerated the facts according to researchers there was no Mass Exodus from Egypt and the Israelites didn't wander the desert for 40 years eating nothing but magic dust from God but what proof is there that David and Solomon even existed up until 1993 there wasn't any but then archaeologists found a fragment of a monument from 835 BC until Dan which is located in Northern Israel the monument commemorates the brutal defeat of Israel and Judah by the king of Damascus but it also briefly mentions the House of David a single line of text seems to confirm that David's bloodline lived on after his death and that they ruled Israel deal but that's pretty much it in the way of proof what we do have evidence of according to Finkelstein and Silberman is that Jerusalem was small and weak there have never been any discoveries to indicate wealth or a large population in the ancient city this suggests the biblical military campaigns never happened and that Jerusalem never experienced the power the Bible says it did Solomon's Temple may have been little more than a stone Shack with a straw roof not the grand megalithic structure described in the holy book number five the Gospel of Judas the Gospel of Judas is one of the most shocking biblical texts that you won't find in any Bible this is primarily because it paints Judas The Man Who Sold Jesus for some silver in a much different light than the Bible the gospel's contents describe a conversation between Jesus and Judas Scholars have dated the first manuscript to the second Century A. D likely written around 180 A.
D by a sect of Gnostic Christians it's extreme extremely mysterious because there's only a single copy that's known to exist written in the Coptic language of Egyptian Christians however the copy may have come from a much earlier manuscript that was written in Greek the first English translation wasn't even published until the National Geographic Society did so in 2006.
