I'm making a video for every one of jesus' major Parables and after my first I thought my job was only going to get easier but I grossly underestimated the stakes of this ancient story I read a little article in preparation and it disagreed with a large majority of Scholars including the likes of RC spraw I wanted to present this alternative view because I think we've got it wrong even with Jesus explanation there's still Fierce debate over the true application so I searched the world for commentaries articles and YouTube videos to satisfy my Curious brain adding
pieces from some of the greats and leaving pieces from others I was finally confident enough to step into this Untold Theory and I wanted to do my best to explain it for those who don't know the parable it goes something like this the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who sowed good seeds into his field but while everyone was sleeping his enemy came and SED weeds among the wheat and went away when the wheat sprouted and formed heads then the weeds also appeared the owner servants came to him and said sir didn't you sew
good seeds into your field then where did the weeds come from an enemy did this he replied the servants asked him do you want us to go and pull them up no he answered because while you pulling up the weeds you may uproot the wheat with them let both grow together until Harvest at that time I will tell the Harvesters first collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn reading this story without Jesus explanation is hard to figure out maybe impossible so I
challenged myself to take some notes without referring to the answers in the later verses I tried to identify as many spiritual elements as I could coming up with wild theories about the field servants and the enemy before looking at the answers I wanted to apply some hermeneutics and try to understand what the first hearers would have known about Jesus tale and I discovered three historical points one the type of farmer he was definitely Rich why because he owned servants likely because he had a large field to cultivate and considering many peasants didn't have private ownership
of their Farmland this confirms to us that he was raking in the cash two the type of seeds sewn by the farmer because of his wealth he could afford the highest quality of seeds mixed with the highest quality of soil there's really no excuse for anything short of a plentiful Harvest three the type of seeds sewn by the enemy darell wheat is the most likely name for the seeds sewn known to look identical to wheat right up until Harvest darell not only stole the nutrients from the good crop but entangled its roots with his neighboring
Sprouts which makes sense considering the farmer's order not to uproot them but if that wasn't bad enough darell produces a black seed that could kill someone if they ingested too much of it I was finally ready to read the answers to this Parable and I was wrong on almost every single element here's what they actually are one the sewer is Jesus two the field is the world three The Good Seed is the people of the Kingdom four the weeds are the people of the evil one five the enemy is the devil six the Harvest is
the end of the age seven the Harvesters of the angels I was disappointed in my abysmal accuracy in guessing these elements so much so that I began to question whether I could back myself to offer a faithful interpretation after such a poor attempt but that's when I found this incredible man Dr John Newfield a teacher from the channel back to the Bible Canada and a captivating speaker to listen to he spoke the words of Jesus like a story rather than a sermon and I was enthralled by his thoughts he gave me an essential piece to
the puzzle the true identity of the weeds opening my eyes and giving me confidence to piece together my final conclusion I had overcome my own doubts but it was time to see whether my arguments would Stack Up on the theological Battlefield RC Sproul and I disagree on one particular element the field in his video he addresses the field in relation to the church however the article that started at all addressed it as the world as does the text but the world in what sense the literal world to understand why this is significant we need to
figure out exactly who these weeds are because although Jesus calls them people of the evil one many teachers have landed on different conclusions I initially suspected the people of the evil one to represent all non-believers because you know they're spoken of alongside children of God thanks to my new hero I learned some critical intel if we read a verse like 1 John 310 we may understand that Children of the devil to be anyone who's not a child of God you're either with God or with the devil now in one sense that is true but not
everyone under the oppression of the devil is one of his malicious workers Paul gives the label to one of his opponents who was contradicting the gospel message as he was preaching and Jesus himself labels the Pharisees Children of the devil due to their stubborn hearts and their plot to kill him so it seems the devil's kids are those on a mission to obstruct the gospel message if they're simply false teachers or people working against the gospel what does Jesus mean when he says don't root them out if we think the field represents church then is
Jesus telling us to allow Heretics to roam free within Matthew 18 and Romans 16 among others would tell us to exercise church discipline in times like these then does uprooting the plant equate to murder the short answer is yes I think this Parable stands in condemnation of times in history like the Spanish Inquisition where thousands were exiled or burnt alive for confessing to heresy enforced by the Catholic church it's not man's job to decide when another man's time is up but that doesn't mean they get off scotf free because as promised countless times in scripture
these blasphemers will be punished by God himself this is where the seventh element of the story takes place so that's it right the Angels come at the end of the age to weed out the false teachers and judge them for their deception wrong the last few verses read as the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire so it will be at the End of the Age the son of man will send out his angels and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that caused of sin and all who do evil they will
throw them into the Blazing furnace where there will be weeping and nashing of teeth did you notice something here's Jesus classic Parable plot twist in the last Parable it was the unbelievable Harvest this time it's something much more scary not only are the false prophets in danger but everything that causes sin and all who do evil so the truth is there were no good seeds to begin with all of us have sinned and therefore will be tossed into the Blazing furnace if the requirement to escape the Angel's Harvest is perfection we stand no chance but
wait there's one more verse then the righteous will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their father Whoever has ears let them hear there's an escape but who is the righteous a simple Wikipedia definition calls righteousness being morally correct and justifiable justifiable Justified Romans 5 says that we're justified by faith but what does Justified mean Justified never sinned okay so that means if we have faith in the blood of Jesus we appear before God just as if we'd never sinned meaning we can attain to the righteousness required to escape the axes of the Angels
