If you experience too much mucus formation in your nose and throat, you often have a sore throat then you have come to the right place because in this video I want to share with you 5 such foods that people often eat thinking them to be healthy but they produce excess mucus in the body. Towards the end of the video, we will also talk about some very easy but effective remedies mentioned in Ayurveda by which the accumulated phlegm will come out on its own, the respiratory tract will get clear due to which you will not have any problem in breathing and the formation of excess phlegm will also stop. So without any further delay, let’s get started.
Hello Friends! Welcome to Fit Tuber. Our entire respiratory tract right from the nose to lungs has mucuosal membranes whose sole job is to produce mucus.
But why is it produced? That is because mucus has its own important role in the body. Since mucus is a sticky gel-like substance, it easily traps outside pollutants, germs, dust, viruses and bacteria and does not allow them to reach the sensitive tissues of the lungs.
That is why whenever you go to any polluted or dusty area, you sneeze and those dust particles come out through mucus. Basically, mucus is like a filter in our body which does not allow foreign particles to enter inside. So this we have understood that mucus has an important function in the body.
But the problem arises when this mucus, this phlegm starts forming in excess. You might have seen that some people always have cold. Or they keep cleaning their throat repeatedly.
This excessive phlegm formation can be awkward during meetings, it can cause difficulty in breathing and it also causes difficulty in sleeping at night. In such a case, even if you take cetirizine anti allergic tablets, these symptoms may get suppressed for some time, but the problem does not get cured from the root. This is the reason the moment we stop taking cetrizine, mucus returns.
So to ensure that mucus is formed in right amount in our body, first of all you will have to eliminate those foods from your diet which create excessive phlegm. Secondly, you should take help of some ayurvedic remedies which are easy and whose result is very good. Most people may not know that the foods they consider healthy are the ones that cause excess mucus in their body.
Let's talk about 5 such common foods that cause excess mucus in the body. Starting with #5 is Curd It is a fact that dairy products create a lot of phlegm. Especially curd.
In Ayurveda, curd has been referred to as Kaphkari and abhishyandi. Being Kaphkari, it creates a lot of phlegm. And abhishyandi means that which blocks the subtle channels of the body.
So if you already have a lot of phlegm or you have trouble breathing, then its best you avoid consuming curd. It will help you even more if you cut out heavy milk products like butter, cheese and mayonnaise from your diet for at least a few days. It is also advisable to drink milk only after adding turmeric and black pepper.
If you want to eat curd, then eat it till afternoon. Completely avoid it after evening. In afternoon also, prefer curd in the form of raita.
Or take plain curd in small quantity and don’t forget adding black salt and black pepper to it. Next at #4 is Banana You must have noticed that often when we have cold and cough, we are advised not to eat banana. That is because when we eat banana, a substance called histamine is produced in the body which triggers the production of mucus.
Generally speaking, banana is a healthy fruit and there is no problem eating it. But if you have a lot of mucus or you have cold or sinus problem then either avoid eating bananas for a few days or eat bananas with black pepper and black salt sprinkled over it. This will give you a lot of relief from the phlegm problem.
At #3 is Bread There was a study done in which the subjects were given bread to eat. After the study was completed, it was found that people who ate more than two slices of bread daily started showing the symptoms of nasal polyps. Research has also revealed that regular bread consumption increases the chances of developing asthma.
But why is this so? That’s because if you look at bread, the quantity of gluten in it is very high. Its much more than that in roti.
Plus, the bread that we buy in the market contains preservatives, food additives and thickeners which creates inflammation in the internal walls of the body. To pacify this inflammation, body then produces excess mucus as its defense mechanism. Basically, if you already have excess phlegm then you should avoid bread, be it brown or white.
(But I like eating bread. How do I manage? ) I think commercial bread can be easily replaced with Indian flatbread i.
e. roti. Then be it a roti sandwich or a roti roll.
At #2 is Rice Rice has a cooling effect and secondly it contains a lot of starch. That is why if you cook rice and keep it, it begins to stick to each other. It has a similar effect inside the body due to which it increases phlegm and blocks the respiratory channels.
But you need not stop eating rice. But reduce the quantity. Secondly, always add hot spices like bay leaves, black pepper, cloves and cinnamon while cooking rice so that its potency becomes a little hot and the sticky phlegm accumulated inside gets melted and is pushed out.
Note that if excess mucus forms in your body then besan or gram flour is a highly beneficial grain for you. You can eat besan chilla in breakfast. You can mix besan in chapati flour.
For snacking, bhuna chana because it has mucus melting properties is a great choice. . In fact, besan sheera, the sweet Indian drink where besan is tempered with ghee and milk along with hot spices like turmeric and black pepper and then sweetened with jaggery powder is almost like medicine to get rid of excess mucus in the body.
Basically, eat more besan and less of rice and wheat and the mucus formation with reduce automatically. At #1 is Chocolate (What relation does chocolate have with mucus? ) If you suffer from acidity, in that case chocolate and coffee, both these things create excess mucus in the body.
What happens is that due to regular consumption of chocolate or coffee the sphincters of our food pipe become weak. Now these sphincters work as gatekeepers which do not allow the acid formed in the stomach to come up. But when they become weak due to the excess consumption of coffee and chocolate then acid starts coming up.
This acid irritates the walls of food pipe and the body starts producing more mucus in its defense. Now this excess mucus produced can cause sore throat, irritation and sometimes it can even lead to prolonged coughing. Basically, more acidity leads to more mucus in the body.
That is why it is suggested that all foods that trigger acid reflux like carbonated drinks, and fried items are best avoided. So these were those 5 foods which if you avoid, you will be able to easily notice that the mucus formation has reduced. Now let's talk about some simple home remedies which will melt and push out that stubborn mucus within.
First is hot water. That’s because hot water has heat energy in it which melts the stubborn phlegm and unclogs the sinuses. You will be surprised to know that when in a study 3 groups of people were given hot water, cold water and hot chicken soup to drink, it was found that hot water was almost as effective as hot chicken soup in opening up the nasal congestion.
Cold water on the contrary blocked it further. So drink hot water as much as possible. It will be much more practical, if you start keeping a thermos bottle with you which contains hot water.
Secondly, onion salad is very beneficial for you. That’s because of two special compounds present in raw onion. First is allium and second is quercetin.
Both have been clinically proven to reduce nasal congestion by clearing the excess mucus production. Even raw garlic is of the same family. Take one thinly cut onion and add black salt, black pepper and lemon juice over it.
This effective mucus reducing salad can accompany your lunch as well as dinner. Start eating it daily and within a few days you will begin to feel a relief. Third is Licorice, also known as Mulethi.
Licorice has been used since ages to cure cough, asthma and upper respiratory problems. Licorice is an expectorant. Which means that it clears excess mucus.
Plus it also reduces acidity. Which why licorice is a double edged sword in cutting mucus production. Mulethi is easily available at any kirana store.
You can keep it handy with yourself. You can chew and suck its juice once morning and once in evening. It will have sure shot effect.
Finally, the combination of ginger and honey is quite effective for removing stuck phlegm. You can use it in two ways. Either grate the ginger and boil it in a glass of water.
To enhance the effect, in this you can even add some turmeric and black pepper or even tulsi leaves if available. . Let it boil until half the water gets evaporated.
Then let it cool a bit and then add a spoon of honey. An effective anti-congestion tea is ready. You can drink this anytime in the morning or evening.
Second way is simple and quick. Just grate some ginger and extract its juice. Mix honey in it and then take it.
It will instantly kick that excess mucus inside. (You have shared so many remedies. Do we have to follow all?
