world and then the end will come how should we think about the signs of the end times trust the Bible is it not incredible how Jesus so aptly described what would happen if man had cured all diseases or solved the problem of War then Jesus himself would have been a false prophet but biblical prophecy is being fulfilled exactly you can trust the Bible be witnessing our duty is to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and in order to do that the people of the church need to move up one step higher get deadly serious about

wrath of God we rarely hear this language in worship services or small group conversations it isn't part of our daily devotions the idea of God's Wrath seems foreign to the god whose love is revealed in Christ and surely we don't want to think of God's Wrath applied to us personally moreover when Psalm 796 calls upon the Lord to pour out wrath on the Nations that refuse to acknowledge Him this seems Politically Incorrect in the extreme it sounds like the kind of rhetoric that inflames our world and leads to all sorts of Terrors so when we

read verses like Psalm 796 we are understandably uncomfortable how are we to understand God's Wrath how could we use this Psalm in our devotions should we pray for God's Wrath to be poured out on Pagan Nations as you might expect I can't answer these questions adequately in this reflection but I do want to make a few relevant observations first the wrath of God refers to God's righteous judgment not primarily to his feelings of anger though the word wrath has this connotation to call for God's Wrath is to ask him to execute Justice on those who

deserve it second God's wrath in this sense rightly falls upon all human beings as we read in Romans 1:18 but God shows his anger from Heaven against all sinful Wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness later in Romans we learn that we ourselves are worthy of God's Wrath for everyone has sinned we all fall short of God's glorious standard Roman 323 this is bad news to be sure third the bad news leads to Good News Jesus Christ took God's wrath upon himself dying in the place of sinful Humanity thus Romans 5:9 proclaims now

that we have been justified by his blood we will be saved through him from the wrath of God nrsv because Jesus drank the cup of God's Wrath we are able to drink the cup of Salvation therefore in our prayers and in our actions we continue to seek God's justice but recognizing that the Nations who reject God are also those for whom Christ died we pray for their redemption in particular we ask that God's grace in Christ will be poured out on all people including those who reject him questions for further reflection how do you understand

the wrath of God What feelings does this language evoke in you do you pray for those who don't acknowledge the Lord are there people like this for whom you want to pray today prayer Lord you know how difficult it is for many of us to read passages like this one our tendency is to ignore IGN them to hurry on to something more palatable forgive us for failing to take seriously the full breadth of your Revelation help us to know you more truly and completely dear Lord we do ask you today to execute Justice on this

to anger likewise if you ask specifically about God's Wrath most people will relate it to God's judgment what is the wrath of God and how do we avoid it what does the word wrath mean in the Old Testament the first instance of the word wrath in the English Bible is found in Genesis 39:19 when the wife of potier falsely accused Joseph of trying to rape her when retelling the story to her husband we are told that his wrath was kindled the Hebrew word in this case is the word a which is more often translated as

agitation to irritation from unresolved irritation to frustration from unresolved frustration to the heart of anger at the heart of anger if it is not resolved then humanly speaking it goes over the line from controlled sanity to an uncontrolled insane outpouring of Wrath this concept is presented in James 111 19:21 as follows wherefore my beloved Brethren let every man be swift to hear slow to speak slow to wrath for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness and receive with meekness the engrafted word which is

able to save your souls biblically speaking this passage is presented in the the context of James 13-18 it teaches us about Temptation being a result of our own lust lust of the flesh eyes and pride 1 John 2:15-17 which results in Death from sin James 1:19 is then showing us the result of unresolved Temptation that has resulted in the lust inspired sin of Wrath or uncontrolled anger and what we should do about it is wrath then sinful whether of not wrath is sinful depends on what is the motivation which produce the Wrath in human terms

we just saw where human wrath is the outpouring of uncontrolled anger based on a sinful motivation however God can also be angry and pour out wrath because God is not the author of Temptation and sin James 1:13 the difference is that God's Wrath is not based on a sinful motivation and it is not uncontrolled Deuteronomy 9:7 job 2023 psalm 7831 Jeremiah 10:10 Ezekiel 22:31 Romans 1:18 Romans 9:22 Revelation 19:15 it is penalty for sin based on Justice Revelation 14920 Revelation 19 11:21 likewise in James 1:1 19-21 we see that man's wrath does not demonstrate the

righteousness of God this means that man's wrath does not demonstrate that we are born again Believers whom have trusted Christ as our savior it is not a fruit of the spirit Galatians 5 2223 instead it is the fruit of our fleshly Disobedience to God as seen in the works of the flesh listed in Galatians 51 1921 since man's wrath is the last of seven layers of anger it is rooted in sinful anger on the other hand since God's Wrath is motivated by Justice it is rooted in righteous anger therefore it is the motivation that determines

if wrath is sinful or not some examples of sinful anger would be if I am angry because of lust of the the flesh because I did not get what I wanted to please my flesh likewise if I am angry because I did not get what I wanted to please my eyes or something I saw that I wanted finally if I am angry because I did not get what I wanted to please my pride on the other hand righteous anger is motivated by a love of God and love of our neighbor which cries out for God's

justice for example if I hear someone cursing using the name of God or blaspheming him I am angry because I love God or if I Amry angry because someone molested a child I am angry because I love my neighbor the child because they were harmed and their innocence was violated how then do I not engage in sinful anger as we read in James 1-1 19-21 we must immediately engraft the word of God into our thinking and take action to put off the filthiness and naughtiness of the behavior of pouring out uncontrolled wrath we must be

doers of the word and not just hearers James 1 12127 this means we must take our thoughts off the Temptation leading to the anger and wrath and put our thoughts on the things of God's word that lead to the fruit of the spirit Galatians 5:22-23 Colossians 382 to10 Philippians 4:49 this also means we must leave the Justice to God and Those whom he has ordained to carry out his wrath Romans 12:14 to 21 Romans 13:34 simply stated we can be righteously angry but leave the carrying out of Justice or wrath to God or his appointed

ministers such as the courts or law enforcement how do I avoid the wrath of God we must be born again as a child of God so that we are no longer a child of Disobedience or of the devil Galatians 3:26 Ephesians 2 1:7 Ephesians 5-6 therefore if we believe that Jesus is the Christ or Messiah we are born again and are no longer a child of antichrist 1 john9 22 1 John 22223 1 John 31012 1 John 414 SEC John 179 if we are no longer a child of Disobedience or the devil then we are

not appointed or subject to God's Wrath that he will pour out upon the Earth Psalms 138 6-8 Proverbs 241 17-26 nahem 128 John 336 Romans 5 par sign wor Thessalonians 1:10 F Thessalonians 5 conclusion humanly speaking wrath is a condition when someone is angry hot and loses control so that they exhibit uncontrolled anger and cruelty man's wrath is rooted in sinful Temptations the lust of the flesh lust of the eyes and pride which makes man's angry wrath unrighteous on the other hand God's anger and wrath is based on Justice motivated by his love for us

therefore if our our wrath is based in sinful motivations we must change our motivations by engrafting the word of God and leave the execution of Justice or wrath to God and His appointed ministers what is the second coming of Jesus Christ the second coming of Jesus Christ is the hope of Believers that God is in control of all things and is faithful to the promises and prophecies in his word in his first coming Jesus Christ came to Earth as a baby in a Manger in Bethlehem just as prophesied Jesus fulfilled many of the Prophecies of

the Messiah during his birth Life Ministry death and Resurrection however there are some prophecies regarding the Messiah that Jesus has not yet fulfilled the second coming of Christ will be the return of Christ to fulfill these remaining prophecies in his first coming Jesus was the suffering servant in his second coming Jesus will be the Conquering King in his first coming Jesus arrived in the most humble of circumstances in his second coming Jesus will arrive with the armies of Heaven at his side the Old Testament prophets did not make clearly this distinction between the two comings

this can be seen in Isaiah 7:14 967 in Zechariah 14:4 as a result of the prophecies seeming to speak of two individuals many Jewish Scholars believed there would be both a suffering Messiah and a conquering Messiah what they failed to understand is that there is only one Messiah and he would fulfill both roles Jesus fulfilled the role of the suffering servant Isaiah chapter 53 in his first coming Jesus will fulfill the role of Israel's deliverer and King in his second coming Zechariah 1210 and Revelation 1.7 describing the second coming look back to Jesus being pierced

Israel and the whole world will mourn for not having accepted the Messiah the first time he came after Jesus ascended into heaven the Angels declared to the apostles men of Galilee they said why do you stand here looking into the sky this same Jesus who has been taken from you into heaven will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven acts 1:1 Zechariah 14:4 identifies the location of the second coming as the Mount of Olives Matthew 24:30 declares at that time the sign of the son of man man will appear

in the sky and all the nations of the earth will mourn they will see the son of man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great Glory Titus 213 describes the second coming as a glorious appearing the second coming is spoken of in greatest detail in Revelation 1911 to16 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse whose Rider is called faithful and true with Justice he judges and makes War his eyes are like blazing fire and on his head are many crowns he has a name written on

him that no one knows but he himself he is dressed in a robe dipped in Blood and his name is the word of God the armies of Heaven were following him riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen white and clean out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the Nations he will rule them with an iron scepter he Treads The Wine Press of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty on his robe and on his thigh he has this name written king of kings and Lord of lords

is it possible to know when Jesus is coming back Matthew 24 36:44 declares no one knows about that day or hour not even the angels in Heaven nor the son but only the father therefore keep watch because you do not know on what day your Lord will come so you also must be ready because the son of man will come at an hour when you do not expect him at first glance these verses would seem to provide a clear and explicit answer to the question no no one can know when Jesus is coming back however

those verses do not say that no one will ever be able to know when Jesus will return most Bible scholars would say that Jesus now glorified in heaven knows the timing of his return indicating that the phrase nor the son does not mean Jesus will never know when he will return similarly it is possible that while Matthew 24 3644 indicates that no one at that time could know the timing of Jesus return God could reveal the timing of Jesus return to someone in the future in addition there is acts 1:7 which states it is not

for you to know the times or dates the father has set by his own authority this was said by Jesus after the disciples asked him if he was at that time going to restore the kingdom to Israel this would seem to confirm the message of Matthew 24 it is not for us to know the timing of Jesus coming back but there is also the question of which return these passages are referring to are they speaking of the Rapture or the second coming which return is unknowable the rapture the second coming or both while the Rapture

is presented as being imminent and mysterious the timing of the second coming could potentially be known based on end times prophecy with that said let us be abundantly clear we do not believe that God has revealed to anyone when Jesus is coming back and we see nothing in scripture which indicates that God will ever reveal to anyone when Jesus is coming back Matthew 2436 to 44 while spoken directly to the people in jesus' time also contains a general principle the timing of Jesus return and the end of the age is not for us to know

scripture nowhere encourages us to try to determine the date rather we are to keep watch because we do not know on which day our Lord will come verse 42 we are to be ready because the son of man will come at an hour when we do not expect him verse to 44 the force of Jesus words diminishes if at some point in the future someone will be able to determine when he is coming back if the date is discovered we no longer need to keep watch or be ready so with the principle of Matthew 24:36

to 44 in mind know it is not possible for anyone to know the date that Jesus is coming back despite this clear biblical principle many throughout Christian history have attempted to prophesy the date that Jesus is coming back many such dates have been proposed and all of them have been wrong most if not all of those who have predicted specific dates for Jesus return have had questionable if not heretical doctrinal positions on other issues as it was said above based on Matthew 2 436 in Acts 17 it is not God's desire for us to calculate

the day that Jesus is coming back anyone who undertakes such a task is if nothing else misguided the key points are one the Bible nowhere encourages us to attempt to discover the timing of jesus' return and two the Bible gives no explicit data by which the timing of jesus' return can be determined rather than developing wild and speculative calculations to determine when Jesus is coming coming back the Bible encourages us to keep watch and be ready Matthew 24:42 44 the fact that the day of Jesus return is unknown should motivate us to live every day

Testament but interestingly it is used most often by Jesus in The Book of Revelation Revelation 2:16 311 1114 227 12 and 20 the meaning seems to be that events have been set in motion that will Usher in his arrival without any unnecessary delay everything is moving along according to God's timetable Peter reassures us that God is Not dragging his feet concerning prophetic events God's timing is perfect the Lord is not slow in keeping his promise as some understand slowness instead he is patient with you not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance

SE second Peter 3:9 in this light we may understand that Jesus is coming soon in that God's plan is advancing and is only delayed to allow for all the elect to be saved Romans 829 Ephesians 1:5 a necessary postponement the Bible teaches that Jesus returned for his church is imminent which means the Rapture could happen at any moment the apostles seem to have believed that Jesus would come back in their lifetimes they referred often to The Last Days 1 Peter memor 1:20 1 Corinthians 1011 Hebrews M12 and urged Believers to be ready it appears that

the question is Jesus coming soon we say yes he will come without unnecessary delay why hasn't Jesus returned yet before Jesus left this Earth he said he would return during his oliv it discourse the Lord told his disciples that everyone one day would see the son of man coming on the Clouds Of Heaven with power and great Glory Matthew 24:30 the night of his arrest Jesus Promised I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am John 14:3 and as he stood trial before the high priest

Jesus said you will see the son of man sitting at the right hand of the mighty one and coming on the Clouds Of Heaven Mark 14:62 we have the promises but we are still waiting Jesus has not returned yet there is also an assurance from the angels that Jesus would return someday after Jesus ascended into heaven as his disciples were still gazing up into the sky two angels comforted the disciples with these words this same Jesus who has been taken from you into heaven will come back in the same way you have seen him go

into heaven acts 1:1 later John sees a vision of Jesus Christ telling him look I am coming soon Revelation 22:7 still Jesus has not returned where is he and what's taking him so long as groundwork for the answer we should remember that God has not revealed the timing of his son's return to any man or to any Angel for that matter Matthew 24:36 Jesus is coming and we need to be ready Matthew 24 4244 but we leave the timing of his return up to God then we should keep in mind the following God is patient

end times events some people believe studying biblical prophecy is fruitless since no one can know when Christ will return after all Jesus himself didn't know the hour of his coming Matthew 24:36 he said no one knows not even the angels of Heaven nor the son but the father alone anyone who claims claims to know the date of the Rapture or second coming is a false teacher not even Jesus knew when he was on Earth however that doesn't mean we can't understand some important things about the end times even though we can't know exactly when Jesus

the rest of the Bible anticipating the end times motivates us to live in a god-honoring way understanding prophecy motivates us to live in a god-honoring way the Bible never separates Prophecy from practical living in 2 Peter 3 the Apostle went to Great Lengths to describe the future destruction of the heavens and earth but his purpose was something much more specific than inspiring shock and awe two the key events of the end times the church age Romans 11:25 definition the church age is that period of time from Pentecost until the Rapture during which Gentiles are invited

to participate in the blessings of the abrahamic Covenant since the time of Genesis 12 the story of the Bible is the story of God's dealings with the nation of Israel over a period of thousands of years God has attempted to bring Israel into the right relationship with himself although many instances in the Old Testament of non-jews Gentiles being saved the primary focus has been on Israel however after Israel rejected Jesus Christ God temporarily halted his dealings with Israel and turned his attention toward the Gentiles the key word here is temporarily because Israel rejected Christ we

indicators that the end times have arrived the Apostle Paul warned that the last days would bring a marked increase in false teaching the spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons 1 Timothy 4:1 the last days are described as perilous times because of the increasingly evil character of man and people who actively oppose the truth 2 Timothy 31:9 see also 2 Thessalonians 2:3 other posible signs of the end times would include a rebuilding of a Jewish temple in Jerusalem increased hostility toward Israel

and advances toward a One World Government the most prominent sign of the end times however is the nation of Israel itself in 1948 Israel was recognized as a sovereign state essentially for the first time since 605 BC when the Babylonians took control of Judah God promised Abraham that his posterity would have Canaan as an everlasting possession Genesis 1 198 in Ezekiel prophesied of physical and spiritual resuscitation of Israel Ezekiel 37 having Israel as a nation in its own land is important in light of end times prophecy because of Israel's prominence in eschatology Daniel 1014 1141

voluntarily submit to him on a functional level to accomplish the will of God John 14242 26 2021 God the son is eternally begotten by God the father and is sent from him alone John 17 while God the spirit proceeds from God the Father through the son John 15:26 as the functional head of the Trinity God the Father can be understood as the author of all acts of God God the father is the one who created the heavens and the Earth Genesis 1:2 and he did this through God the son by the power of God the

spirit Genesis 1112 col iians 1:16 he is the source for all other Divine Acts including election calling salvation sanctification glorification and more Romans 11:36 says for from him and through him and to him are all things to him be the glory forever amen ESV through his life and Ministry Jesus regularly taught his followers who God the father is and what he's like the gospel narratives then give us the clearest picture of who God the father is we are told that God is a father who deeply loves his children John 16:27 that he is to be

prayed too Matthew 66 that he is the source of salvation for all who come through Jesus John 14:6 and that he has a will to be sought after John 6:38 what does it mean that God is our ABA father in scripture there are many different names used to describe God while all the names of God are are important in many ways the name ABA father is one of the most significant names of God in understanding how he relates to people the word ABA is an Aramaic word that means father it was a common term that
