in recent times we have witnessed extraordinary events around the world many of which have been alarming and devastating floods earthquakes heat waves and heightened political tensions have left countless people feeling unsettled asking themselves what does it all mean when we look at these unusual and often catastrophic events happening around us on October 29th 2024 an unprecedented disaster struck the Eastern region of Valencia Spain meteorologists reported a Year's worth of rain falling within a single day transforming Serene valleys and vibrant towns into sights of Destruction this immense downpour resulted in a deadly flood tragically claiming the

lives of at least 95 people residents of the region were shocked as they watched Rivers swell to previously unimaginable Heights in just half an hour wiping away infrastructure and leaving behind debris and destruction well the region around where we are in Valencia is the worst affected a state of emergency has been declared in a large part of the region after a Year's worth of rain fell in just a day this is the worst flooding in Spain in almost 30 years the force of the water enough to wipe out a bridge this kind of rainfall is

extraordinarily rare for this part of the world and while it could be seen as an isolated event it mirrors the growing frequency of extreme weather around the globe in an age where such disasters are becoming more common it's easy to feel anxious 2024 has also been marked by intense seismic activity particularly in Asia the year began with a powerful earthquake that struck Japan on January 1st this 7.5 magnitude earthquake shook the Noto Peninsula causing widespread destruction and leading to Japan's first major tsunami warning since 2011 buildings crumbled roads cracked and communities were left reeling from

the impact as these earthquakes Echo across the continent the world is reminded of the Earth's fragility and the power it holds beneath the surface the earthquakes which appear to be happening with increased frequency and intensity bring to mind jesus' warning in Matthew 24/7 where he prophesied there will be famines and earthquakes in various places in the same way these seismic events May serve as reminders for us to hold fast to our faith knowing that even when the earth shakes our foundation in Christ remains firm Beyond floods and earthquakes we've also seen a disturbing Trend in

Rising temperatures in the Pacific Northwest particularly in Washington state 2024 has been marked by extreme heat waves that have pushed temperatures to unprecedented levels Seattle a city known for its moderate climate recorded its third warmest July on record the sweltering temperatures caused an array of problems from health risks to environmental issues prompting new safety regulations for outdoor workers these heat waves are not just uncomfortable they're dangerous Health officials noted a sharp increase in heat related illnesses with local hospitals reporting an uptick in cases of dehydration heat stroke and exhaustion as natural disasters escalate we also

see tensions increasing between nations following the October 2023 conflict between Israel and Hamas the situation in the Middle East remains volatile and it does not appear to be deescalate anytime soon this ongoing conflict has evolved to involve countries like Iran and Lebanon through groups like Hezbollah creating a precarious situation many fear that the situation could escalate into a broader regional conflict involving the United States and other Global Powers the anxieties surrounding these conflicts are palpable and people everywhere are feeling the strain of political and Military tensions in Matthew 24:6 Jesus warned his followers you will

hear of wars and rumors of wars but see to it that you are not alarmed such things must happen but the end is still to come this verse resonates deeply in today's world where political disputes and Military confrontations make the headlines daily it's easy to let fear creep into our hearts but Jesus assures us that these events are part of a larger plan one that we may not fully understand but that is under God's Sovereign control [Music] in addition to the Middle Eastern conflict Europe has been affected by the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine

a conflict that has drawn the attention and concern of the entire world the heavy military engagement and the involvement of NATO have sparked fears that this could lead to a more widespread War if Western countries deepen their involvement meanwhile the Diplomatic strain between the US and China over issues like Taiwan and the South China Sea has many wondering if these tensions could lead to a confrontation in Asia as these conflicts and tensions continue to escalate it's understandable that many feel a sense of urgency and even dread however Jesus words encourage us to take heart and

remember that these are all part of the unfolding story he foretold with all of these strange events happening worldwide from natural disasters to Wars and Rising political tensions we find ourselves living in what Jesus described as the beginning of Sorrows in Matthew 248 these events may seem overwhelming and the uncertainty of it all can weigh heavily on us yet Jesus in his wisdom not only foretold these events but gave us guidance on how to respond in times like these it's natural for people to feel feel anxious or even fearful there's a general sense of unease

as we look at the events unfolding worldwide but for many that's not the only thing weighing them down life itself can be challenging and stressful on a personal level too from the daily struggles of making ends meet managing bills and providing for families to facing unforeseen difficulties and personal heartbreaks life can feel overwhelming people are going to sleep with heavy hearts wondering if things will ever feel normal or secure again even the routines that used to bring us peace seem filled with tension we're carrying burdens some seen and some unseen and many are feeling that

weight daily but take heart beloved because God has not left you in every moment of fear every sleepless night every time your heart feels heavy with the cares of this world God is right there he sees the stress you're under the curveballs life has thrown your way and the worries that seem to stack up scripture reassures us that God is deeply aware of our struggles and that he cares about even the smallest details of our lives in Matthew 10:29 to 31 Jesus reminds us that not even a sparrow falls to the ground outside of the

father's care and that we are far more valuable than sparrows this tells us that he sees each need need each fear and each heartache the enemy would love to make us feel isolated as if no one understands or as if we're carrying these burdens alone but that's a lie God is with us and he promises that he will never leave us nor forsake us in fact Jesus calls all who are weary and burdened to come to him and he will give them rest he longs to carry your burdens to lift the weight that feels so

so heavy on your heart so whatever fears you're facing whether they are about the world around us or struggles within your own life know that you don't have to face them alone God is in control even when life feels chaotic he holds the entire universe in his hands and he holds your heart just as carefully he is a loving father who hears your cries and sees your tears Psalm 3417 to18 tells us the righteous just cry out and the Lord hears them he delivers them from all their troubles the Lord is close to the Brokenhearted

and saves those who are crushed in spirit God's presence is near to you even now you may not have all the answers and life may not Mak sense but God is your Refuge your strength and your everpresent help place your trust in him knowing that he is with you he is the calm in the storm and the peace that fills the deepest parts of our hearts whatever the world or life throws your way do not be troubled or afraid for God walks this path with you despite the chaos around us Jesus reminds us in Matthew

24:6 do not be alarmed he encourages us not to let our hearts be troubled even in the face of these Sorrows these events are part of God's grand plan and nothing is happening outside of his knowledge or control it is a profound Comfort to know that our creator the one who holds the universe together is not surprised or alarmed by any of these events just as he was in control during the time of Jesus and the early church he is in control now people are scared about the future because we are living in uncertain times

we are living in uncertain times and I know how you feel I know the pressures you are facing we are called called to Anchor our hearts in faith to trust in God's sovereignty and to draw close to him in these times as Believers we know that we are not left to face these events alone Jesus has promised to be with us always to the very end of the age in Matthew 28:20
