look all editors understand that there are five aspects which make an amazing video you've got pacing creating interesting intros animations and engagement music selection but there's also this sound design and we all know that if we wanted to make an amazing video we need to be the best in all of these now what I don't understand is why is it that we pay so much attention to the first four and then give the least amount of importance to this last one sound design is one of the most crucial aspects of video editing and unfortunately I've
seen way too many editors that are amazing at animating but just don't know how to bring their animations to life using sound design that's why in this video I'm going to walk you through everything you need to know about sound design in 2025 we're going to be collecting your own special sound effects back we'll be taking you through the three-step sound design workflow and at the end we'll even go through and sound design this entire short over here and here's a quick snippet of what you'll be able to do by the end of this video
your most important asset as a video editor is your personal brand let me explain so if you guys are ready let's dive straight into mastering sound design in 2025 before we collect our highquality sound effects Library first we need to understand what kind of sound effects we're going to need as video editors and you're going to learn this with experience but most of the common sound effects that you're going to be using are things like whooshes risers hits clicks gears and other sound effects and that's exactly why we need to create our own highquality sound
effect Library so let's head over to your desktop and create a folder called sound effects we're going to be using this folder a lot in our three-step sound design work and inside this fold folder we're going to create a folder for each kind of sound effect we're going to need so a folder for whooshes one for risers and hits one for clicks one for Gears and one for others later on the video I'm going to teach you how you can use each of these sound effects in your videos but for now we're going to need
to fill these up look we want to collect the best of the best sound effects out there and the easiest way to do this is to search up for a sound effect like whooshes for example and go through 100 but only select 10 highquality sound effects the reason this works is because it forces us to choose only the highest quality sound effects which in return is going to make our sound design higher quality because the quality of your sound design is determined by the quality of your sound effects someone quote that now how do we
find high quality sound effects you really have two directions you can go either free sources or paid sources the free sources are okay but they won't give you as many options or as high quality sound effects as you'd want these are sources like YouTube or YouTube Sound Library whereas the paid sources are going to give you access to way more sound effects and much higher quality ones and these are like epidemic sound or artlist.io I personally use epidemic sound so I'm going to leave an affiliate link down down below so you guys can get a
free 7-Day trial but now that we understand sound effects a bit more let's go ahead and create our own highquality sound effects pack starting with the wooshes I'll head over to the epidemic sound search bar and search up for the term whoosh now once I've had a look around I can also look for other Niche down terms like electric whoosh base whoosh fast whoosh or whatever comes to mind but one thing you have to keep in mind is that you can only save 10 of these so choose the 10 best ones and make sure to
include a variety of fast whooshes slow whooshes and different kinds of sound effects but with that done for our whooshes we can now move on to risers and I'll do the same thing once again search up risers and have a look around and once again only make sure I pick 10 then I'm going to continue doing this to the hits gears clicks and other sound effects that we have and after doing that we should have a library of 50 or 60 highquality sound effects and if you did this right you'll never need to update your
sound effects library ever again but now that we have collected sound effects what do we do with that this is where we're going to dive into how we can use the pack that we just collected to sound design our video using our three-step sound design workflow let me start by saying that the three-step sound design workflow is a workflow I've used to sound design basically any video and it all starts with step one sound designing movement the first step is to always bring movements to life movements in a video without sound design are very dull
and very useless so to bring them to life we use whoosh sound effects that mimic the air passing by which actually kind of correlate to a movement happening but what kind of movements are we talking about movements are basically anything that moves on in or out of the screen so things like popins from the top left right or bottom or pop outs from the top left right or bottom or even movements inside the frame like this one and even Zoomin and zoom outs all of these can be brought to life using whooshes just take a
look at the difference between this animation without sound [Music] design and with sound design now how do we actually apply step one the apply step one we're first going to watch through the entire video and look for any movements that are happening on the screen just like this movement over here and and once we notice this we're going to go and find the right whoosh with the right length and right volume and drag it in but now we Face another problem how do we match our whoosh to the actual movement happening on screen it's a
very simple solution we'll just take the peak of this sound effect and align it with the fastest point in the animation or the point with the most motion blur this aligns the highest point in the sound effect to the fastest point in the animation and it's going to be synced up and this would be the first thing I do to sound design a video just watch through the video look for any movements and bring in whooshes and align the Peaks to the peak of the movement this will give the video the Bas sound effects that
set the tone for the movements which on top of these we're going to be building the rest of our sound assign and that is where we get into step two step two is taking care of the so-called textured sound effects now this in my opinion is the most important part of sound designing a video because although step one lays out the base this is what adds flavor to the video textured sound effects are sound effects like clicks UI sound gear electric sounds and so on the reason we call these textured sound effects is because they
are what adds texture to the video how the heck are we going to know where to add texture to a video well in our library we have a collection of clicks gears and other sound effects and the first part of the process is identifying what needs to be sound design anything like text animations line animations icon animations basically anything that isn't sound designed with a whoosh is going to be our Target then based on the animation we can choose to either use a click or a gear sound effect or even mix up both for a
brand new feel so check this out if we're watching through this section right here and you guys can see I've already sound designed the movement but there's an animation that doesn't have a sound effect this this letter popping effect is a good opportunity for us to include a nice textured sound effect so I'll sit here and think okay what kind of sound effect fits this animation and the first thing that came to mind was a mechanical sound effect to make it look like these letters were physical Keys rotating out so I'll bring in a gear
sound effect from our gear folder and align it with the animation and this will make our title animation look like this your most important asset now you guys are going to learn a lot more about this process once we actually apply this to our edit but the whole premise is to look at an animation and give it a certain texture using sound effects like in this section here where we have this graph animation we can use it to bring in some electric and UI sound effects are mastering video editing and holding or in this section
here where we have the selection animation we can use this to bring in some UI sound effects go over camera movement point is this is where you get to stylize your video using your sound effects and now that we've set up step one our whooshes for our movement animations and even set up step two our textured sound effects for our other animations what's next step three is where we introduce emotional sound effects if I wanted to sum this up I would describe as creating emotion in a video using sound effects because this is the stage
where we use certain sound effects to build up our viewers anticipation or allow them emotional rest during a certain section of the video what do I mean by this there are parts of the video where a viewer needs to feel a certain kind of emotion perhaps we just revealed something big so we need him to feel like he discovered something new or perhaps we're building up to the climax so we need him to feel suspenseful point is these emotions are usually achieved by using certain sound design techniques and they are mainly made up of risers
hits and sometimes other sound effects as well risers build up the viewers anticipation so we can use them when we want the viewer to kind of build up or feel suspenseful and hits shock the viewer so we can use them when we want to reveal something or come to a realization with the viewer and the reason this is the final stage is because this is the stage where you wrap up everything all together and with that being said that completes our three-step sound design workflow where in step one we bring movements to life using mushes
and in step two we add textures to other animations to bring them to life and in step three we introduce the emotional aspect of the story by using risers and hits and if we are able to complete all three of these man our videos will sound insanely good and our viewers are going to love the content but with this being said we finally collected our highquality sound effects back and we've learned the three-step sound design workflow it's time to apply all this information to this short over here we're going to be watching through it and
adding in our whooshes we'll even analyze each animation and add the right textured sound effects to each one and we're going to finalize this short to get this amazing sound design timeline over here and if if you're watching this as a video editor and you would love to edit videos like the ones you're watching right now I have a 60-day plan that can make you an amazing highquality editor whether you're a complete beginner to editing or someone who's intermediate these 300 plus courses are going to make you one of the best editors in the market

the next 60 days for you using ultimate editors just give me 60 days and I can make you one of the best editors on the market click the link down below but in the case that this doesn't interest you then let's get back to sound assign but first we're going to need to find the right music track finding the right music track is all about the kind of feeling you want your short to give off if you you want it to be serious and sad then you look for tracks that place you in a state
of sadness if you want it to be interesting and mysterious then you can look for tracks that make it sound interesting and mysterious and epidemic sound really helps with this because you can choose from one of these moods here to find songs that fit your video so I'll drag this soundtrack in and place it correctly and play through important asset as a video editor is your although this track is nice it's a bit more exciting than what we were looking for so let's go and remove it and I think I've got a better idea of
what would fit here let's go over to the documentary section in epidemic sounds and these are music tracks that are used for docum dentaries so let's download this one right here and if we add this in you'll notice it fits really well into our video of three layers the front end the transition and the back end so let's just go with this one all right now that we finished our music selection let's get straight into sound design it's time to use our three-step workflow and we obviously need to start with step one which is sound
designing the movements and as you guys remember the concept for step one is to just sound design all the movements that are happening on the screen so I'll first look through this section here as you can notice it starts off with a pretty quick zoom in early on so to allow the viewer to hear this movement I'll go up to my sound effects pack and drag in my wosh sound effect and it's pretty easy to see where the peak of my wosh currently is and as I play through this zoom in you can see the
point at which it's the fastest so for that reason let's align the peak of the sound effect with the fastest point in the zoom in which is this point here now for this animation we have this three-part pyramid moving down from the top of the screen this is obviously a kind of movement so let's sound assign let's bring in another whoosh this one starts off harsh and then Fades out which is perfect for this specific movement then let's align the peak of this whoosh with the fastest point in this animation and duplicate it and align
it with the second pyramid and duplicate it again and align it with the third pyramid and this is what it's going to sound like every business is made up of three layers now in this next section you can see we start off with a zoom in then move down and finish it off with a zoom out and all of these are movements so let's start with a whoosh in the beginning and align it with the zoom in and duplicate it again and align it with this movement and then duplicate it one more time and align
it with the zoom out at the end now for this next one I decided to stylize it a bit more as you can see we have a popup of an image so let's add in a basic whoosh for the movement but this time I'm going to spice it up a bit more by going over to epidemic sound and searching for an electric whoosh then I'm going to lay it on top of the base whoosh to get this cool sound foil with the link that you leave in your bio okay great we're almost done with the
movement so let's finish up this last section here we have a simple zoom in with a movement down and then a zoom out so you already know what to do drag in a whoosh for the first zoom in then duplicate it again for the second movement and then to spice things up I decided to bring in a Sci-Fi whoosh and place it here for the last zoom out and this I think sounds a lot nicer and lastly your back end is your ser editing high quality video and back in my pyramid animation I decided to
layer on some Hypersonic water sound effects by aligning them with the whooshes which we placed earlier and this just sounded much better every business is made up of three layers and that's it for step one as you guys can see we were following the same exact sequence we Tre described for step one we just watch through the animation look for movements and add a whoosh according to the movement and this is the easiest step you can do to already take your videos to the next level but now it's time for the step that's going to
completely revamp our short it's time for step two which is textured sound effects now remember all that we do here is watch through our video and look for every other thing that hasn't been sound designed yet so we're going to be sound designing text animations UI animations popups and everything else and for this we're going to be specifically using our gears clicks and other sound effects folders that we created all right let's get into the big timec consuming part of our sound design workflow starting over here the first thing that we have is this big
text animation with a lot of letters flowing in this feels like a mechanical movement so we can add in a gear sound effect to make it sound like it's mechanically rotating in so I'll drag in one of my gear sound effects that I had and simply place the start of it as the first letter comes up your most important asset and this sounds very nice but I really want to make it more clicky so I layer on another clicky gear sound effect and this sounds much nicer your most important asset and the last part of
this animation is the rectangle scaling out from the background and for this I'm going to drag in a Sci-Fi glitch sound effect and align it with the rectangle and this is what everything sounds like your most important asset and as you can see this completely changes the feel of the video so let's keep going through this the next animation we have is this dotted line with the text popup a general rule of thumb for dotted lines is to use clicky sound effects to bring them to life so I'll drag in this gear sound effect here
I'll also make sure to extend it for when the line starts writing off so we have a gear sound effect for both the write on and the write off and for the last part of our intro we have a two-word write out with a line animation so for the line animation we're going to start with a Sci-Fi glitch sound effect for when it starts this will make it feel like a lightsaber starting up then we're going to add in a data sound effect so that it feels like this lead line is flickering and that's it
for our intro check it out your most important asset as a video editor is your personal brand this makes a huge difference in our short and to be fair this was the most complex part of the entire edit so let's go ahead and apply step two for the rest of the short let's go over to the pyramid section over here we've got three dotted lines and three words to sound assign let's start with the dotted lines just as we did before We'll add in our click sound effects and align it with the first line then
duplicate it for the second one and duplicate it again for the third one now for our text animations they write out like a typewriter but we're going for a futuristic feel of the video so we drag in this futuristic data sound effect and add it to our text write out make sure it starts as our text starts and ends as our text ends and duplicate for the second text and duplicate it again for the third text every business is made up of three layers the front end the transition and the back end great only a
few more sections left moving into this one we have a zoom in and a dotted line so right off the bat let's go back to the clicky sound effects we made earlier in the video where we layered on a Gear sound effect with some clicks and just duplicate this one over here then we have this UI box opening up so we'll add in another sci-fi whoosh and as the UI Box is open we'll have a data sound effect in the background to make it look like we open a new Matrix or something then we zoom
out and for that reason I'll add a constant power effect to my data sound effect this will make the sound effect fade out and I'll time this so that it fades out as we zoom out and this is just for the attention to DET then as we zoom out we have this field of profile pictures so we'll add a subtle data sound effect for that as well just to set in the ambience of the field your front end as a video editor is your personal brand it's what attracts your client eyes when they click on
your profile all right two more sections left and we're finished this section was pretty simple first we have two words pop in and then this letter pop up sound effect so for the first two words I added two clicks and for the letter pop in I added in a gear sound effect then for the rectangle pop out I added in a Sci-Fi glitch and lastly this line animation is a lot like the blue one we had in the beginning so we'll go back to it and simply duplicate the same two sound effects which were the
Sci-Fi glitch and the data sound effect then your transition is your portfolio all right final section for this last part we have our title revealing I wanted to add a mechanical feel to it so we added a rough gear sound effect to it and layer Ed it with a clicks sound effect for that attention to detail as for the line that pops down it doesn't have a dash so I won't make this one sound mechanical instead I'll use a Sci-Fi wosh for it then when the word service pops up I wanted to add a notification
sound for it so I added in a UI click and after our zoom out we have two things happening we've got the icon popping and the line dashes coming out from behind the icon so we'll add a UI click to the icon in the middle and finish it off with a gear sound effect for the line behind the icon and with all this being said this completes our entire sound design for this short just look at how much step two did to our sound design timeline and this is how you know your video is about
to be very high quality I might be wondering Joseph what happened to step three well in this case we wouldn't be needing step three because we just don't need to implement any risers which is one thing that I did forget to mention step three is actually not always necessary so ladies and gentlemen we've created our own special highquality sound effects pack we've learned the three-step sound design workflow to creating high quality sound design and we've applied these three steps to our short over here now it's finally time to enjoy it full with its sound design
and everything so without further Ado here is the complete final product your most important asset as a video editor is your personal brand let me explain every business is made up of three layers the front end the transition and the back end your front end as a video editor is your personal brand it's what attracts your clients eyes when they click on your profile then your transition is your portfolio or the link that you leave in your bio and lastly your back end is your service editing high quality videos for clients so which one do
you think you need to work on on comment down below thank you guys so much for watching all the way till the end of video it really means a lot to me to see you guys stick around this far guys we're going to keep rolling out bangers after bangers for you guys in 2025 so make sure you stay tuned for our next upload which is going to be next Saturday and if you've watched this far as a video editor then you should probably check out ultimate editors in the first link down below and yeah God
