Okay, guys, let's start fast because today I will be talking about Historical Revisionism It's all set up to iniciate the. . .
Wait, hold up. Didn't you say that you were going to record a video About the tower, Susan Sontag and Coronavirus? I said that?
Yes, on last week's video! Me? ?
? Yes! You, honey, you!
I have proof. You're on tape, wearing something purple. .
. Rochelle, rush, delete the video. Well, just like you must have seen somewhere on this screen Today's subject is Historical Revisionism And you know what, there wouldn't be a better time for us to discuss this subject So, before we begin the discussion per se I need you to have guarded in your heart a definition of Historical Revisionism such as A practice through which a certain group reviews a historical event or time period, Extracts from it things that didn't happen or manufactures a new version of the story or produces fake data.
For what? So that the way we look at History legitimates a certain practice that happens in the present. But it is also important to say that when we talk about Historical Revisionism We're talking about a pervasive concept: a concept that permeates and contaminates all aspects of our social life.
To discuss this concept I am going to examine a work of art. Ho hey ha! We're talking about Titanic!
No, not about this one. Not Celine's not Little Dicaprio's. (Back then we had a small affair at the dentist's) We're going to talk about a version of Titanic from 1943, made by the Nazis, and that, by the way, was made by request of Joseph Goebbles, who was Hitler's Propaganda Secretary.
If you get curious, the movie is available here on YouTube with English subtitles. Just go and watch the whole thing. Okay, kids, what do I need you to understand: this is not the first movie about Titanic made in Germany.
Just so we can step on firm ground, Germany had already made two versions of the Titanic. The first one was a silent film released in 1912, the second one, even though it was recorded in german, it was produced with British capital. This was in 1929.
But why am I talking about the Nazi one? (Gee, who knows? ) It's so we can understand that after 1912, after 1929, after Germany had already made two cinematographic narratives about this historical event The Nazis decided to make another version of it.
Sidenote: this is the first version of "Titanic" whose title was only "Titanic" And not: "Titanic, an epic on german supremacy (lol)" Or "Titanic, how the Germans. . .
" Or "Titanic, an interpretation. . .
" No. Just Titanic. And this is quite dangerous.
