by a photo that was actually an image created with AI like all Innovative Technologies generative AI carries both huge opportunities and potential threats on the positive side it can augment human creativity democratize Innovation and improve personalized learning throughout life downsides include the proliferation of of disinformation the loss of data privacy copyright violations threats to the Integrity of Elections lack of source reliability surveillance and discrimination including gender-based and racial stereotypes that's why media and information literacy is key to empowering younger and older users with the necessary skills to engage with generative AI citizens who are media
and information literate are able to identify analyze critically interpret and engage with content produced with generative AI they are equipped with tools to check the veracity and accuracy of content no more being fooled by a manipulated photo they also understand the biases generated content might carry upskilling media and information literacy of citizens is also crucial if we want the whole of society to trust new technologies and contribute to their design implementation and [Music] regulation to make this a reality we need to step up our efforts to ensure media and information literacy is integrated in both
formal and informal education UNESCO is supporting governments institutions and policy makers to develop and Implement policies and strategies taking into consideration the ever evolving nature and challenges of generative AI UNESCO is also providing resources and training opportunities to teachers Educators youth workers and Civil Society organizations so that they are empowered to widely share their knowledge on media and information literacy and their digital [Music] competencies together we must better comprehend generative AI to seize the opportunities it brings while preventing the inherent risks so let's all get media and information literate [Music]
