Hello, little scientists, I am Professor Bill Tyson and together we are going to know different forms of science. In our previous episode, we said that our blood has three very important cells. And today we will talk about another.
Our body is constantly attacked by viruses and bacteria that can make us sick. Oh! And now, who can defend us?
No, it's not who you're thinking. It's Leukocytes. Leukocytes, also known as white blood cells, are the cells responsible for the defense of our body.
Unlike RBCs, leukocytes have a nucleus. In addition, they present varied forms. So that they can defend the body in a better way leucocytes have a super power!
They have the ability to get out of the blood vessels to defend the nearby areas. This ability is called diapedese. Leukocytes use different defense techniques, and one of them is called phagocytosis.
In this technique the leukocyte encompasses the invading cell and places it inside. The effect is as if the leucocyte "sucked" the other cell. It's a strange way to fight enemy cells, but it works.
For now, it's just personal, see you next time. Ah! Before I forget!
