all right Revelation 12 what is it all about Revelation 12 is an inspired commentary on themes throughout the Old Testament starting with Genesis 3 Revelation 12 we're going to read you're going to read for me if you can the first six verses and a great sign was seen in heaven a woman arrayed with the sun and a and the moon under her feet and upon her head a crown of 12 stars and she was with child and she crith out traveling in birth and in pain to be delivered and there were seen before you move
on I want you to note sun and moon under her feet 12 stars on her head right that's right and a great sign in heaven right that's right okay now notice she's going to give birth to a male child but she's giving birth in labor pains right that's read it you're gonna read it read it all the way to I just want you to emphasize the parts that we're going to focus on keep reading all the way to six absolutely and there was seen another sign in heaven and behold a great red dragon having seven
heads and 10 horns and upon his head seven diems now let me expain before you move in Revelation 13 you're going to be told what the seven heads seven diadems 10 horns are seven heads are the city on Seven Hills so this is why people believe this is referring to Satan operating through the Roman Empire you get it you see how it works that's why they're trying to connect with the Catholic church but in its historical context it's not about the Catholic church it's about an oppressive imperial system that opposes God's people and seeks to
kill them but the seven heads are also seven Kings right that John will unpack this later but it's also the city on Seven Hills and the 10 diadems later on Revelation 17 were told are 10 Kings will be given a kingdom that will swear allegiance to the Beast okay so it's very complex Let Me Explain If you read Revelation John's going to tell you the dragon in Revelation 129 is Satan it's the devil the serpent we're going to get there but the seven heads he talks about it in upcoming chapters seven Kings you know then
talks about one WS is not but will be again all right and then he says it's Seven Hills the city on Seven Hills which historically was the description given to Rome by extension Roman Empire 10 dims Revelation 17 tells you those are 10 Kings who for an hour will give be given a kingdom and they will swear allegiance to the Beast so keep that in mind so now go ahead all the way to six absolutely and his Tale draweth the third part of the stars of heaven and did cast them to the earth and the
dragon standeth before the woman that is about to be delivered and when she is delivered he may devour her child and she was delivered of a son a Manchild who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron and her child was caught up unto God and unto his throne and the woman fled Into the Wilderness where she hath Place prepared for God that there may they may nourish her 1,23 score days that's that's three and a half years if you do the math 1,260 days then elsewhere say 42 months time times half
a time that's three and a half years so this woman will be pursued in the wilderness but she will be protected for how long for three years three and a half right 42 months260 days 30 days a month okay now keep that mind let's now unpack where John is getting this from because John is giving you an inspired commentary on the Old Testament motifs symbols and apocalyptic imagery meaning imagery leading to the end he's alluding to Genesis and Jeremiah and Isaiah and Daniel and Ezekiel see this why John assumes that the people reading this know
their Old Testament thoroughly so let's back to symbolism so the woman a great sign in heaven it's in heaven right a woman she's pregnant with a M child she gives birth in labor pains right that's right but then she has a sun and moon under her feet and she's crowned with 12 Stars okay keep that in mind the dragon pursues her and tries to devour her child right that's right but then in Revelation 12:17 just read Revelation 12:7 and the dragon waxed wroth with the woman and went away to what to make war with the
rest of her seed and keep the Commandments of God and hold the testimony of Jesus okay do you catch it he not only tries to Devour the male child she gave birth to was caught up where in verses four and five where was he caught up child to rule all the nations with a rod of iron and her child was caught up unto God sorry so and not only unto God but what else finish it my brother and unto his throne ah so who's the male child that was born who was then caught up into
heaven to sit on God's Throne that was Jesus Christ Lord because here John is alluding to Psalm 2 veres 8 to9 so go to Psalm now reread that again Revelation 12:45 let's unpack the imagery yep and as Tale draweth the third part of the stars of heaven and it cast them to the earth and the dragon standeth before the woman that is about to be delivered that when she is delivered he may devour her child and she was delivered of a son a Manchild who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron
and her child was caught up up unto God and unto his throne now let me show you where John is alluding to a male child rule the nations with a rod of iron caught up to God in his throne go to Psalm 27-9 all right so it says Psalms 27-9 I will tell of the decree Jehovah said unto me thou art my son this day have I begotten thee ask of me and I will give Thee the Nations for thine inheritance and the uttermost part of the earth for thy possession Thou shalt break them with
a rod of iron Thou shalt Dash them into pieces like a Pott's vessel they he will Dash them with a rod of iron that's right isn't that what John alluded to in Revelation 125 it is so you see John just told you that Psalm two has been fulfilled and the woman giving birth to the male child and that male child is Jesus because he was caught up to heaven to sit with God on the throne in point of fact if you want to see that he's clearly referring to Psalm 2 read Psalm 2 verses 1
and two it says why do the Nations rage and the peoples meditate a vain thing the kings of the earth set themselves and the rulers take counsel together against Jehovah and against his anointed saying okay now the word his anointed in Hebrew his messiah miach messiah Christos his Christos so the Nations gathered against Jehovah and the Messiah right that's right because they didn't want Jehovah and the Messiah to Reign Over them right yes because they wanted to cast their yoke a suer right they don't want to come under their yoke their rulership right that's right
but now read Revelation 1210 this is directly a reference to Psalm 22 and I heard a great voice in heaven saying now has come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ for the accuser of our Brethren is his Christ huh his Christ that's what you read in Psalm 2:2 his anointed because the word is which in GRE is so Psalm 22 the Nations rebel against yahwah Jehovah and his Christ but in Revelation 1210 we see the enthronement of God and his Christ so you see that
Revelation 12 is alluding to Psalm two right everyone got that absolutely okay so we got that woman great sign in heaven woman sun and moon under her feet crown of 12 Stars the dragon pursues her to devour her child the Messiah but fails messiah's caught up to heaven then he pursues the rest of her children right Revelation 12:17 that's right dragon and who are the rest of children that's right it says and he went away to make war with the rest of her seed and who are the rest of her seed those who what those
who are saved in Christ the uh the ones who have faith in him those who hold to the testimony of Christ and keep his Commandments right that's right so the seed of the woman are believers Christians the church the woman's seed is Christ and those who believe in Christ hold the testimony of Christ and keep his commands so we got who the the seed of the woman is right so where is John getting this the woman great sign sun and moon under her feet crown of T Stars Dragon pursues to Devour the seed and who
is the dragon Revelation 12:9 tells you he's the ancient serpent The Serpent of old the devil Satan right that's right and the Great Dragon was cast down go to Genesis 314- 16 Paul John is now giving you an inspired commentary of Genesis 314- 16 the Lord God said to the serpent so serpent to the serpent but Revelation 129 says the dragon who pursued the woman and tried to devour seed he is that ancient Serpent and that ancient serpent is called the devil Satan so who's the serpent here Satan okay now read watch where John was
quoting from because you have done this cursed are you above all livestock and above all Beasts of the field on your belly you shall go and dust you shall eat all the days of your life I will put enity between you and the woman and between your Offspring and her Offspring he shall bruise your head I want to put at between you and the woman and between your seed Offspring and her seed Offspring but how was Revelation 12 the dragon of serpent is trying to devour her Offspring her seed that's right so what is revelation
12 first alluding to Genesis 3 that's right so John is telling you Genesis 3 is being unpacked unfolded before our eyes because now he's going to tell you who that woman is in Genesis 3 in that context it's eve but then he's going to tell you Eve points to someone else points to someone else so in Genesis 3 the woman is e but now e becomes a picture of someone else she stands in place for someone else okay so we got that connection and I'm going to put hatred between you and the woman between your
seed and her seed and what will they do finish 15 and 16 he shall bruise your head and you shall bruise his heel to the woman he said I will merely sorry will surely multiply your pain and childbearing in pain you shall bring forth children your desire shall be contrary to your husband but he shall rule over you okay wait what happened in a woman Revelation 122 did she not give birth to the male child in labor pains she did so are you seeing that he's now interpreting for you Genesis 3 yes definitely it's not
just about Eve though watch what John's gonna tell you this woman is Eve but she is a picture of someone else because that woman had sun and moon under her feet right and had a crown of 12 stars on ahead yeah go to Genesis 379 to11 because now the woman becomes a pict picture of Eve Who's a picture of another woman who then becomes picture of another woman watch How It's going to unpack Joseph has a dream Genesis 37 9-11 Joseph has a dream then he dreamed another dream and and told it to his brothers
and said behold I have dreamed another dream behold the Sun the moon and the 11 stars were bowing down to me but when he told it to his father and to his brothers his father rebuked him and said to him what is this dream that you have dreamed shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to Bow ourselves to to the feet before you to the ground before you sorry and his brothers were jealous of him but his father kept saying in his mind okay so Joseph has a dream saying I see the
Sun and Moon 11 Stars bowing before me and Jacob interprets it as he the wife and the 11 Brothers bowing before Joseph but the woman had the Sun and Moon under her feet and a crown of 12 Stars Joseph has a dream of 11 Stars sun and moon bowing to him so who is the woman Israel because the sun and moon in Joseph's dream represents Jacob and his wife and the 11 Stars his 11 Brothers but that woman Revelation had 12 Stars so why did Joseph only see 11 because he was in that case looking
from the perspective of the woman so then who was the 12 star himself yeah because they make up the nation now John told you Eve is a picture of Israel Israel the nation and from her came Messiah because Messiah is born of Israel right yeah and that's why God even depicts Israel giving birth as a woman in labor pains go to Jeremiah 4:31 and that reads for I heard a cry as of a woman in labor anguish as to as of one giving birth to her first child The Cry Of The Daughter of Zion gasping
for breath stretching out her hands so doesn't that sound like what we read in Revelation 12 a woman giving birth to a male child and labor pains right so that refers to Eve who becomes a picture of the nation Israel CU that's the bride the woman of God right but how does she become a picture of Mary well let me break that down okay so in Revelation this woman represents more than one figure it's eve but she's a picture of the nation right who's a picture of Mary so it's not either or it's all of
the above it's eve who's a picture of the nation Israel who's then typified in Mary Mary's included but how do I know no Mary's included because you remember it says I saw a great sign in heaven a woman that gave birth to a male son that's Isaiah 710 to14 Isaiah 710 to14 a great sign in heaven right ask for a sign as high as the heavens or as deep as shol and the Lord himself shall give you a sign shall conceive and give birth to a son and she will call him Emanuel Isaiah 7104 I'm
going to explain to you the beauty of God using the word which literally means the maiden the woman read it for me again the Lord spoke to ahaz ask a sign of the Lord your God let it be deep in shol or high as heaven but ahaz said I will not ask and I will not put the Lord to the test as high as what as high as the heavens so ask for a sign that's so great that it's like as high as him meaning Beyond human C capacity or as deep as she but he
doesn't want to because he doesn't want to depend on God he wants to enter into alliance with the Assyrians my ancestors Now read what God then does and he said here then oh House of David is it too little for you to weary men that you weary My God also therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign behold the Virgin shall conceive and be a sign the Virgin shall conceive and give birth to a son she will call his name what Emanuel God Among Us God With Us now here's what's beautiful guys the word
literally means the the woman the young woman the maiden so why is it translated virgin because every time the Old Testament refers to an alma she's a mature young woman of marriageable age who's a virgin but the wisdom of God again he chose a word that means a woman but who's a virgin but she's mature enough to get married but she's a virgin so the miracle is a young woman who's mature will conceive miraculously while a virgin so it has that meaning it does mean woman but it means a woman who's mature enough to get
married but is a virgin so it does have the the implication of virginity because every time the word Alma is used in the Old Testament it refers to Young maidens women who are mature enough to to be married but are virgins which is exactly the condition of the Blessed Mother she was not a toddler she was a mature young woman who even knew about birds and the bees but was a virgin and conceived miraculously so here you have the element showing you it's referring to Mary a sign in heaven the gives birth to a son
what did you find Revelation 12 a sign in heaven a woman giving birth to a son so it's eve who's a picture of Israel who's a picture of Mary it's all of the above Mary's included but now someone say but hold on in Catholic tradition she's imally conceived but here she gives birth and labor pains and that's the result of sin well there are two responses the labor pains here would have to be spiritual anguish emotional dist how do we know because when it's referring to Israel the nation what kind of labor pains did the
nation undergo emotional psychological and spiritual so it does not necessarily have to refer to Mary giving birth and labor pains it can refer to Mary giving birth in circumstances that were troubling so that it's spiritual emotional psychological labor pains pains and anguish which is precisely the condition that she found herself in a young virgin having to flee while pregnant to Bethlehem and also having to flee from the threat of Herod wanting to kill her son so she gave birth in a context in which she was undergoing emotional psychological anguish and pain even if by some
stretch of the imagination it's referring to physical labor pains not saying she did because the oldest tradition we have on the way Mary conceived the Our Lord the Blessed Mother conceiving our lord it's the evangelium of James alesser and it says the Lord came out of her physically in a manner as light goes through a window pan so there is the older Traditions was that God miraculously protected her where she felt no pain but let's assume she did does that mean she was tainted by original sin no just like Jesus our lord died because of
sin but he himself is sinless and only the soul that sins shall die but he died even though he's sinless because he voluntarily took our sufferings we can say that the Blessed Mother was permitted to suffer physical anguish not because she herself is sinful but because she's sharing in the Redemptive sufferings of her son so either way you don't get any arguments against this including Mary there is nothing in the context that rules out this being married because notice how the symbolism worked it's referring to Eve Genesis 314- 16 but then it's referring to Israel
because the imagery comes from Joseph's Vision about the nation that's why Israel is described as a woman giving birth and labor pains so it's not just Israel nor is it about Eve it's all of the above and Eve as a picture of Israel is also a picture of Mary and Israel is a picture of Mary because Mary's the one who literally gave birth to the child now let me give you some more objections that they'll try to use against you but they'll say hey she was already a queen in heaven before she gave birth but
but you don't believe that because she wasn't in heaven she was on Earth and she hadn't been crowned so how do you respond to that very easy let me refute that nonsense just like the child born was destined to rule but he did not rule until he went to heaven likewise the imagery of Mary being in heaven doesn't mean she pre-existed or she was a queen but its imagery showing you this is what she was destined for by being chosen as the Queen Mother her Destiny is to rule with her son so the imagery isn't
showing that she was already a queen as she was pregnant giving birth but that this is the queen mother who whose Destiny is to share in the fate of her son to rule with him eventually so there are no good objections against Samaran interpretation so in other words what I'm getting at is John just gave you an inspired exposition of of Genesis 3 Genesis 35 37 and other Old Testament motifs culminating in Mary because he's also alluding to Isaiah 7:14 so he has Isaiah 7:14 in mind he has Genesis 37 9-11 in mind he has
Genesis 314- 16 in mind Jeremiah 4:31 in mind Psalm 2 in mind so the message is this basically Israel brought forth the Messiah how through Mary who typifies Israel so that she's truly the queen mother that gave birth to the king and all who believe in Christ are the seed that Genesis 3 prophesied would be persecuted by the serpent who Satan so in other words it's about Israel bringing forth the Messiah and then the seed that comes out of that nation is the church who then becomes true Israel because they are the true seed who
by believing Christ and keeping his commands will be the target of the Dragon but initially the target of the Dragon was Israel typified in Mary because when did the dragon try to devour Jesus when he was born right because who did he stir up to try to slaughter him Herod the slaughter of the Innocence when Jesus was to that began the Serpent's first attempt to Devour the male child when he instigated Herod to command the slaughter of the Innocents male boys to and under because Jesus was around two years old and the Lord being protected
from being slaughtered and all throughout Jesus's Ministry the devil tried to devour him until finally he thought he won by having him killed but little did he realize that the death of Christ was his destruction and then he ascended to reign as king of kings and Lord of lords
