I think one of the most difficult things for people that are transitioning over to the carnivore diet is figuring out what they can eat in today's video we're going to answer all of your carnivore diet food related questions and then I'm going to share with you some recipe resources before laying out a TW we carnivore meal plan that will give you somewhere to start on your carnivore Journey I'm Jenny I've been doing the carnivore diet for 18 months and I've been tracking my progress through weight measurements dexa scans continuous glucose monitoring blood work and arterial scans and I've been sharing all of the information with you here on YouTube I get questions every single day such as what can I eat on the carnivore diet how much should I eat should I track my food should I be making sure I'm getting enough protein or fat how often should I eat I thought calories weren't important do I have to track my calories on Carnivore and it can be hard coming from a standard American diet where you're eating three meals a day plus snacks you've got a side dish or two or three with every single meal and then you go from that supposed food abundance to just having like a 16 to 24 ooun steak for dinner maybe with a little bit of butter the plate can look a bit empty you may think that carnivore is going to be incredibly boring and that it would be impossible for you to be able to restrict yourself to such a limited number of food sources I empathize with you I felt the exact same way I had the exact same questions and thoughts but we're going to address all of that stuff and hopefully by the end of this video you are going to feel more confident and believe in your ability to do carnivore successfully let's start with the very first question what should I eat when I'm starting carnivore and I would say the vast majority of people on Carnivore are keeping it really simple I recently released a video where I laid out the different versions of carnivore I will link to that video at the end of this one but the key is to consume the animal products that you enjoy the most for myself I'm eating beef butter and eggs almost every single day I'll also throw pork in a few times a week I don't know if you've heard of BBB and E beef butter bacon and eggs but it's a very popular version of the carnivore diet and it's the version that I'm eating most of the time for breakfast I'm having some variety of eggs and some meat so maybe I'll have like four or five eggs cooked in like 2 tablespoons of butter and three pieces of bacon and maybe three pieces of sausage and maybe the next day I'll fry up a pound of ground beef and then scramble in eight or nine eggs and I'll eat half of that for breakfast for dinner I'm typically eating beef so maybe I'll have a 16 to 24 o ribeye or maybe a pound of skirt steak I've really been digging these flanken short ribs lately I'll do like a pound of those for dinner and then once in a blue moon probably once a month I'll throw in some chicken wings and I'll do pork chops a couple times a month and then if I'm getting kind of sick of all of that I'll throw in a dinner just like tuna Sashimi maybe like a seafood salad and some golden shrimp I personally don't munch on sticks of butter or anything like that but I don't think that's a bad thing I think that can work for some people I just don't do it personally I do make something called chocolate beef butter bites though so what I'll do is take a pound of ground beef dehydrate it and then I put that aside and then I take a block of butter put that in the microwave and I take silicone molds put the ground beef in the bottom of those pour in the butter and then I sprinkle the top with chocolate element it's really tasty I'll eat one to three tablespoons of those per day just to keep my fat content High I'm trying to do a higher fat version of carnivore but that's the way that I consume extra fat if you want to eat just from a stick of butter go right ahead it's totally fine and honestly guys that's how I'm eating 90% of the time it may look a little bit different for you you may not like beef and that's okay you just need to pick the meats that you're most into and eat that I will say though that beef is the most nutrient dense of all the meats out there so I strongly recommend that you include as much beef into your version of the carnivore diet as humanly possible if you'd like some inspiration I have a free comprehensive grocery list that I can send to you head over to my Instagram follow me over there and then send me a message saying you would like that carnivore grocery list and I will send it your way so to wrap up our first question what you should be eating on the carnivore diet are the meats and animal products that you enjoy the most let's get through the rest of these frequently asked questions so that you feel more comfortable with the carnivore diet and then we'll go into that twoe meal plan I want to touch on keto flu real quick because it's very common and I think you should be prepared for it keto flu is just carbohydrate withdrawal and symptoms include diarrhea constipation fatigue sleep disturbances and so much more I strongly advise having electrolytes on hand before you get started with the carnivore diet because it can help you with the keto flu the brand that I use is element and I'd like to thank them for sponsoring today's video element is an electrolyte brand that has everything you need and nothing you don't with 1,000 Mig of sodium 200 Mig of potassium and 60 mg of magnesium in the beginning of carnivore you can lose a lot of weight and a lot of that is water weight and when you're losing water you're losing electrolytes and that can make the keto flu so much worse to counteract that process I recommend doing one packet of the raw unflavored element into 16 to 24 ounces of water and do that right in the morning right when you wake up that's going to help to mitigate some of these keto flu symptoms and hopefully take the edge off right now element is offering my viewers a free sample pack with any drink mix order so you can head over to the link in the description it's drink element. com Jenny midic that's d r i n k LM nt. com Jenny midic and get your free sample pack with any drink mix order today I recommend picking up a box of the raw unflavored element and then you can try out all of their flavors and see if you wanted to pick up more boxes but I think that's very helpful in the beginning of carnivore just make sure you have some electrolytes on hand you'll thank me later let's move on to the next frequently Asked question which is how much should I eat and the answer to that is more than than you think there are a couple of schools of thought on this the typical advice is to eat until you are comfortably stuffed at every single meal and then don't eat again until you're truly hungry this allows you to learn your true hunger cues but for some people their appetite tanks and they aren't really hungry that first month on Carnivore some people develop food aversions and they can't even look at another piece of steak I experienced both of those things in that case what should you do should you follow your hunger and just not eat and the answer to that is a resounding no you definitely need to eat in this case I recommend picking two to three set meal times and forcing yourself to eat at those times lack of appetite and food aversions are very common in the beginning of carnivore and they tend to improve by the end of the first month but in the meantime you need to make sure you're nourishing your body and then there's another school of thought called priming you may have come acoss cross this in your carnivore diet research so let's talk a little bit about it for a second priming is a technique where for the first 2 to 4 weeks you're on Carnivore you eat three meals per day and you eat a lot eat until you are comfortably stuffed at every single one of those meals this can be a really good way to make sure that you are getting enough food and also allowing your body to get used to this way of eating I think priming can be a successful strategy for a lot of people especially those that see their appetites decline drastically when they first start carnivore so how much food should you be eating in general the typical guidance is at least one and a half lounds of meat per day for a female and at least 2 lounds of meat per day for a male that can seem a bit intimidating at first but don't worry it looks a little bit different for every person I also think people should be hitting a minimum protein goal every single day the reason for this is protein is our body's building block it helps combat feelings of fatigue and in the beginning of carnivore that can be a real issue there's lots of different ways you can calculate your minimum protein goals for the day the way that I do it is I do one gram of protein per pound of ideal body weight so for me I'd like to weigh 130 lb so I aim to get 130 gram of protein minimum most days now for somebody whose ideal weight is a bit higher than mine like say your ideal weight's 200 or 220 that's a lot of protein in grams to be consuming I it's doable for sure but in the beginning of carnivore that can be a bit intimidating so you can also not do just one gram of protein per pound of ideal body weight you could do8 G or 6 G those are all acceptable units of measure for just trying to figure out this minimum protein goal for the day just figure out what works best for you this leads us to our next questions which is do I need to track my food and I thought I didn't have to track calories on Carnivore is that true there are a lot of strong opinions on these questions I personally believe in food tracking at least for a little bit I don't think you have to do it forever but I do think it's valuable to do for at least a few weeks because then you can learn the protein and fat compositions of your food you can see just how much food you're eating are you eating a ton of calories are you not really eating any at all and the well and also tracking your protein you know how are you going to know how many grams of protein per day you're eating if you're not tracking it so I do think there is some value to tracking but I I don't think you have to do it forever there's another school of thought that talks about you should just trust your body and intuitively eat and just eat until you're you know full and then just let it go and don't track anything at all and I think that can be an effective strategy for some people but there's a lot of us out there you know myself included we can eat and some of us don't get those cues to stop eating so I think this boils down to you got to figure it out for yourself what works best for you if you do better with intuitive eating do it but if you're like me and have a hard time with saying no and stopping uh maybe tracking is a better route for you and again I don't think you need to track forever but I do find it helpful and I think it's good to be able to see okay I'm getting this much fat this much protein and then when I run into a weight loss stall I can look back at that data and I can see exactly what I was eating if I wasn't tracking my food I would not know where to begin with that you know what I mean so I find a lot of value in tracking the next question kind of piggybacks off of the last few questions and that is how often should I eat a lot of people think oh well this influencer is only eating once a day so that's what I'm going to do and the thing about that is is you know it's highly individualized just like everything in life you have to figure out what works best for you one meal a day is fine two meals a day is fine three meals a day is fine you could even do more than that so for people that have had gas bypass surgery they can't handle large amounts of food at one time so perhaps somebody that's had that surgery would have to eat five six times a day but that's okay that doesn't take away your carnivore card or anything like that you just have to tailor this way of eating to your particular situation and your lifestyle personally in the very beginning of carnivore I recommend people start with at least two meals per day if you decide to try that priming technique it would be three meals per day after you've gotten through the first month or two on Carnivore you're going to be able to identify your true hunger and perhaps that meal frequency will change that's totally normal and once you're used to the carnivore diet your body will naturally relax into the meal frequency that it desires for me personally I eat two meals per day I eat breakfast with my kids around 8:30 900 in the morning and then I'll eat again between 2:00 p.
