Trump Considers Ousting Hegseth for DeSantis, Loses Drug Enforcement Agency Nominee | Tonight Show

You made it. Thank you for watching. Well, guys, everybody's excited about this.

Tonight was the 93rd annual Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting. [ Cheers and applause ] And I hope you guys are a fun crowd, because right now, there's so many people outside. We're going to have to have a sleepover here till New Year's.

That's gonna be fun. There's literally tens of thousands of people outside to see the tree. It's crazy out there.

After the show, I'm going to hang out in the middle of Times Square just to relax for a little while. I got to say Rockefeller Center during the holidays is the best, because there's two things that bring an instant smile to everyone's face. Seeing the tree lit up and watching ice skaters fall on the rink.

I mean, those are the two things. -It's the best. [ Cheers and applause ] I really do love when the Christmas tree is here because for six weeks, instead of weed, the city smells like pine.

. . [ Laughter ] Sorry, pine-scented weed.

And that's what I like. I saw this year's tree is 74 feet tall, 43 feet wide, and weighs 11 tons. [ Audience exclaims ] Today its friends tried politely suggesting that I start taking.

. . Oh, that was.

. . Tonight's tree lighting was a special 2-hour TV special.

That's right, Between the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the tree lighting, it's basically Lip-Sync week on NBC. [ Laughter ] Well, speaking of the holiday -- I wish I could lip-sync right now. -Oh.

[ Laughter ] -[ Lip-syncing ] Speaking of the holidays. -Uh. .

. [ Laughter ] -[ Lip-syncing ] Me? What are you talking about?

I didn't lip-sync. No. You're mistaken.

I said a joke purely from my heart. Tariq, am I right? -[ Lip-syncing ] Yes, you're very right.

[ Laughter ] -Well, speaking of the holidays. . .

I saw that a shopping mall in Los Angeles is charging $165 for kids to meet Santa. [ Audience groans ] Yeah, these kids are so rich. Santa asked them for presents.

[ Laughter ] Normally, if sitting on someone's lap cost $165, you're not at the mall. You know what I'm saying? [ Up-tempo disco music plays ] ♪♪ -Do you know what that means?

-I don't even know what -- I don't know what that means. Um. .

. I'm some political news. I read that President Elect Trump is considering replacing Pete Hegseth with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as his nominee for Defense Secretary.

Yeah, when asked -- When asked why he'd hire Ron DeSantis, Trump said, [As Trump] "Because it'd be really fun to fire Ron DeSantis. " [ Laughter ] That's why it's all worth it. [ Applause ] [ Normal voice ] Well get this, last night, Trump's pick to lead the Drg Enforcement Agency withdrew his name from consideration.

He was like, "Yeah. I didn't know there'd be a drug test, I mean. .

. " [ Laughter ] Um, some more political news. I saw that incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune plans to rush several bills through Congress in the first 30 days of Trump's second term.

He just released a statement about his plan. Check out what Thune had to say. He said.

. . [ Audience whistling ] That's what he said.

[ Cheers and applause ] Then Senator Jim Rich spoke up and said. . .

I think Congressman August Pfluger said. . .

[ Laughter and applause ] Yeah, they're happy guys. Well, switching gears, people are excited about this. Today, the highly anticipated Spotify Wrapped 2024 was released.

[ Audience exclaims ] Yep, today you're either sharing your Spotify Wrapped or realizing you listen to a little too much Sabrina Carpenter for a 50-year-old man. [ Laughter ] Well, a lot of people are talking about a new documentary on Max that's all about the musical genre Yacht Rock. -Audience: Yeah!

-Yeah. You know, Yacht Rock. But it's the soft rock sound made popular by Steely Dan, Kenny Loggins, and, of course, Michael McDonald.

[ Cellphone ringing ] And. . .
