in this video I'm going to show you how you can promote your Instagram page and gain more followers using Facebook ads or meta ads so let's dive in worth mentioning you do have to have your Instagram account linked to your meta ad account already so you might want to search online for some tutorials if you've never done this um feel free to just start and if you find out your Instagram is not linked at the very end it'll allow you to uh link it but sometimes it gets hairy in the middle so we're going to
click create and now we get our campaign creation dialogue where we choose our objective in this case we are using the traffic objective I almost never use the traffic objective I'm almost always going for some type of conversion campaign like engagement leads or sales but traffic is the one you want for Instagram profile visits and you'll see where that comes in in a sec I never use the recommended settings I will do a manual traffic campaign and now we have a campaign so I'm just going to call this Instagram profile visits I typically turn on
Advantage campaign budget don't worry too much about what this does at this moment in time if you watch my other videos you probably know and specify how much money you want to spend per day you can also do a lifetime budget instead of date range but let's say you want to do $5 a day that's totally fine we're going to click next down at the bottom and now we get to the big meat and potatoes of this campaign so I'm going to zoom in so we get a better view here uh the first thing it
asks us is what is your conversion location and for us it's Instagram profile send traffic to your Instagram profile so this campaign the way it works let me zoom out is it optimizes for Instagram profile visits so it's a traffic campaign where it's first tracking the click like the click on the button there's going to be a button that says visit Instagram or visit Instagram profile or visit profile something like that and it's tracking how many people actually make it to your profile it doesn't guarantee they follow you doesn't guarantee they do anything outside of
visit your profile but uh there there's a good as long as you're targeting makes sense like a certain percentage of people are going to follow you and interact with your content and you'll have to do some analysis to figure out is it is it moving the needle enough like is your cost per follower worth it in the grand scheme of things so share my screen again and zoom back in So Instagram profile visits is our primary action here we don't have to worry about budget and schedule unless you chose a lifetime budget then you have
to choose an end date U the first thing I'm going to do is go down to audiences and I have to zoom out here to show you I hate this Advantage Plus audience thing at least for most music applications um it it's it just it treats your audience like a suggestion and I've quite literally never had it do better than the original targeting option so switch to original audience ignore meta's recommendations of how much better it is I promise you it's not at least for music uh original audience options um and now we have our
original audience setup so here um there's a lot of ways this could go I'm going to give you one example so Instagram profile visits can be fairly cheap to get in tier one countries so it's it's actually not a bad idea to consider like if you're from the US just doing United States and that's what I'm going to do in this example but you can broaden this up keep in mind if you add cheaper countries here like Brazil and Mexico they're probably going to steal all the money and you're going to get nothing in the
US so consider that whatever you put in here that the cheaper countries tend to win out and steal most of the funds ages I usually say in in the in the videos I have where I'm talking about how to get more streams using meta ads on Spotify and apple music that you should think of your audience and if your audience is let's say 18 to 35 make it like 18 to 44 like make it a bit broader 18 to 40 or something in this case I like to actually keep it pretty specific um in this
case for my band it actually probably is 18 to 40 cuz this is an alternative metal band but keep it tight to what you know your your data should be detailed targeting this is where things get fun if you watched my videos before you you probably already have been running campaigns for Spotify and all that so you know what to put in here but if you haven't uh you can put in some genres or artists usually I'll start with artists but it depends on your specific genre in this case it's an alternative metal band and
alternative Metals it's it's it's there's enough people but it's it's fairly Niche when you compare it to something like hip-hop or pop or EDM um we still get 8 million people in the US that like alternative metal which is plenty and uh if you find your audience size like let's say I don't know I'm trying to think of a smaller artist like if I type in periphery um it's giving us 200,000 people generally I it's hard to give a broad size for what you should aim for because it's different for everyone but um I generally
I'd aim for like a million plus as a broad rule it depends on the countries though like if you're targeting a small country like the US is huge if you're targeting a smaller country with 10 times less people you know you have to adjust your expectations like in the US this would be small but in I don't know I don't know what's the smallest country in the world but if if you're targeting the smallest country in the world like you might have to broaden things up a lot to make things work so in my case
we're just going to do alternative metal there's a whole bunch of strategy you can do around this testing different targets and different adsets but we're going to keep it simple for the start now the next thing we got to do is look at placements since we chose Instagram profile visits as our main uh conversion optimization event um if you look at manual you're going to see that it's it's all Instagram only right because they they can't get your Instagram profile it's if you're not on Instagram I'm generally not a fan of Instagram profile feed it's
generally more for images and it's a kind of a fleeting placement people don't go there to discover stuff uh Instagram explore home I don't really people don't get the full view so I don't like to include it ads Instagram reels down here is more of a again an image thing they even say we recommend squirt images for that one so we turn that off and I believe Instagram search results it's a similar thing but again it's kind of like that Instagram Explorer home layout so I generally do not include that and I just do these
four which is Instagram feed Instagram explore Instagram stories and Instagram reals and the reason is these are all platforms where people go to discover new content and you're trying to squeeze in there and be like hey check out my stuff but if people are going to places where they're not trying to find new stuff like the profile feed they're already checking someone out um that's why I don't include places like that as a broad rule so now we have your targeting um you could go name this something relevant and this I'll call it like USA
alt metal just to make your life easier in the future when reading your data and now we can go into the ad but you need to make sure that in this ad section that you have your correct Facebook Instagram page selected why do we need a Facebook page well every ad needs a Facebook page it's not actually running on this it's only running on the Instagram account you just you have to choose a Facebook page as part of running a campaign and you should have a Facebook page for your band it takes 5 Seconds to
set up you don't have to post on it every day just keep it like every time you have a new song post about it or something and it just write on your Facebook page I don't use Facebook that much hit us up on Instagram you know there's nothing wrong with doing that so now we have our basic ad but we need to actually choose our ad we have two options here uh we can create an ad and actually upload a video or an image um but very often I will instead of doing create an ad
I'll use an existing post and then I could select post and this is showing our Instagram post so I could go through and I could choose one of these videos that I have or video or photos but I'm going to choose a real in this case reals are kind of dominating Instagram right now might change in the future but reals are going to be your best bet at least now in 2024 and now it's kind of processing this post and it's importing it but while it's doing that um turn off multi- Advertiser ads this is
more for shopping so I wouldn't use that here all right so now our ad has finished uploading and processing and we can see the preview here so you know you want to make sure that stuff looks good it's a little weird that this text gets cropped off so you might want to consider that um but as a broad rule there's a good chance this is mostly going to run on reals anyways just because again reals is kind of dominant right now but you can see how this gets portrayed there's like a big view Instagram profile
button that swipes up after a few seconds um for feeds and explore there's just a static button visit Instagram profile at the bottom so when they click that it's just going to take them to your Instagram profile that's it like super easy peasy but it's now now it comes to your job which which this gets a little more complicated but I want to give you some insight as to how you can do this too so now we're going to do is we're going to click this all tools button on the left and we want to
look for meta business suite for me it's up at the top here for you it might be different you there's also a chance you might not have it but if I click that let's see where it takes us all right so in my case it actually took me to the wrong Facebook and Instagram page so I had to switch into the correct one but now here we are in meta business suite and I want to point out a random unrelated thing just to save you guys some some stress um there's a ton of Facebook and
Instagram scams going around where you'll get messages like important notice your Facebook page is scheduled to be deleted y y y um your Facebook page has violated this thing like these are not real there's there're people who like if I I'll click on it um but you don't want to click on the second link that I'm about to show you because this is straight up just like a a fake link designed to steal your Instagram or Facebook password and then run a bunch of money in bogus ads through your account and you might get your
ad account banned don't don't click on any links don't fall for it please um it's a massive pain to fix it get your account back um it's same with emails be very careful of any Facebook emails just wanted to point that out cuz I just noticed it um so now we're in here we want to go over to I believe the insights area they're always freaking changing this damn platform so you know I feel like every month they move some buttons around so if yours is a little different I apologize but uh insights generally make
sense and I think it's results yeah results this is what I wanted so you can specify a date range and let's say I want to do last 90 days just to get a little bit more data and I'll zoom out a tad and we can go look at Instagram profile visits and Instagram followers on the mobile app there's also a different view but I like doing things on desktop because I don't like getting sucked into social media land and then wasting a bunch of time and it's just easier for me to do this on my
computer I do everything on my computer but there is a thing on the phone if you prefer that uh you can see Instagram follows right so the number of times accounts followed you in the selected time period so this isn't total cumulative followers this is number of follows gained per day in the app it shows you I think cumulative or no it shows you daily gained and daily lost um so it gives you a little more stats there might be other stats and other places in here that you can check out but moral of the
story you you're really looking for extra followers so by looking at last 90 days we kind of get a Baseline here 187 Instagram follows in the last 90 days so I can pull out a calculator say 19 or 187 divided by 90 days we get an average of two followers per day so now when you start your campaign you're going to see a bunch of Instagram profile visits like this is going to shoot up to the Moon uh well at least if you're spending a decent chunk of change and your cost per profile visit is
pretty high um but then what you can do is note when you started the campaign and then customize your time frame so let's say you you you know you started at a certain day you can put a custom date range here so let's say I started one on um May 1st and it's May 25th now I can do update and now this whole page is going to generate for that range and then you could go and compare um your Instagram follows per day so you're kind of trying to just compare I was getting two followers
a day now how many followers am I getting or I was getting two followers a day then how many followers per day am I getting now and you could do this in a spreadsheet so you can more easily like list it and see how it changes over time but what this allows you to do is figure out how many followers are you actually gaining per day cuz who cares how many profile visits you're getting if it's not amounting to followers it's just it's kind well it's not a waste of time because they might be engaging
and sharing content and all that but chances are uh if they're not following it's not doing what you want so you want to be able to have this kind of feedback loop because there's no campaign objective in meta where you can optimize for actual follows you want to do this second step just to make sure that the the thing you're paying for is actually translating into the thing you want and that's how you do it you look at these stats get a baseline from before your ad started and then compare that to after your ad
started keep in mind if you run other ads those could also impact things so it can get a little hairy but but just do your best and you just want to see that these things are working now one thing that's worth bringing up is running the the Spotify streaming focused campaigns we sending people to landing page to go over to Spotify or apple Etc uh those actually do also typically grow your Instagram following if you're running them through your Instagram page and in my opinion that's a better way of doing it because you're not like
