the Madagascar Trilogy is crazy in other languages the name of motoo was interpreted really weirdly in different versions Heroes call each other and there are jokes about communism US presidents and many other things also in this video I'll show why Madagascar is way more beloved in Russia than in the west I watched six adaptations of the trilogy German Italian Russian Ukrainian Spanish and English in this video we'll Del into the distinctions between these versions let's start with Modo Modo this guy is a meme but in English his name is kind of boring compared to other
adaptations especially the Ukrainian dub remember the scene where Marty explains the name of this hipo it goes like this in English it means hot hot hot hot hot hot is pretty funny but in the Ukrainian version Marty explains it differently yeah he really says the f word here and that's in a kids movie I don't know how or why it happened but it's just the way it is do whatever you want with this info now in Russian he's called sexy sexy sexy sexy sexy sexy though other adaptations mostly kept it close to the original now
let's talk about the scene where the heroes escaped the zoo in the English version the monkeys want to throw poop at Tom Wolf an American author and journalist but in each adaptation they pick a different person to Target for instance in the German version is Hillary Clinton what a coincidence in the Spanish version it's Bill Clinton I don't know what exactly the Clinton family did to German and Spanish translators but it's pretty funny in Italian they talk about a university lecture on anarchism Lincoln Center the next scene will blow your mind you might recall that
when the main characters meet the Lemur Alex and the English version calls them bozos well I say we just got to ask these bozos where the people are excuse me we Boos have the people of course however in the Russian version well it's way harsher essentially Alex here refer to them as yeah the word Alex uses can be translated as this term is offensive in Russian as it refers to a person with Down Syndrome the Russian audience was also shocked by this scene and it's unclear why they translated it this way initially the characters believed
that the wild was in Connecticut but in the Spanish version they changed it to Miami well I hear they have Wide Open Spaces in Connecticut Conneticut Miami this changed might be because many Spanish speaking people are in Miami making it more well known to the audience and the Russian version on the other hand they changed it to Brighton Beach Brighton Beach this change was likely made because Russians are more familiar with this neighborhood since there are many Russians immigrants the next scene is one of the most interesting in the entire Trilogy it occurs in the
third movie where Vali the Russian tiger says this that's bulvik I never thought I'd say this on American soil but the rusi is right this moment is intriguing because Vitali firstly replaces this war war in such a way secondly he makes a reference to the Bolsheviks these are the guys who established a communist government in Russia a 100 years ago interestingly in the Russian version this reference was entirely removed perhaps Russians perceived Vitali as a stereotypical character who talks about communism and stuff so they decided to change it on the other hand in the Ukrainian
version it was retained in this one Vitali just calls s do a balik which doesn't make much sense in the dialogue but it's funny B in Italian he refers to himself as a [Music] balik all these adaptations are quite unique and interesting but most don't make much sense so which one do you think is the best let's keep going remember the scene where the Penguins dig a tunnel to Antarctica and bump into Marty in the English version Skipper uses the German word spren which means to speak but he pronounced is it wrong Asen quadrip spren
the English Asen now the weirdest part is that in the German adaptation they also pronounce it the same wrong way as in English German it's pretty strange since the characters speak clear German without any mistakes throughout the movie now back to Skipper when the chimpanzees come for help in Madagascar 2 Skipper divides them into three groups the names of the first two groups stay the same in all versions but the third group George pepper was changed in the Russian version to Chuck Norris George you'll handle craft Services any questions they made this change because Chuck
Norris is more popular and not many Russian viewers know who George pepper is now there's a strange moment in the Russian adaptation in the English version when dubua gives a speech to the crowd at the end of the third movie she says he was never about the money it was about the lion the phrase has a double meaning because the crowd thinks she aimed to return Alex to the zoo but we understand her actual aim was to capture Alex himself it was about [Music] zon in the Russian dub on the other hand this scene is
somewhat odd [Music] galava du says she needs a lion's head and the crowd is cheering you might think it could be some Russian World play but it's not in this version the crowd seems stupid because they are happy about the fact the Dua wants to kill Alex nevertheless Madagascar is much more beloved in Russia than in the west you can see it by comparing the movie ratings on IMDb and the Russian counterpart kin po you see it on your screen now why is that so well I think it's because in the Russian version the characters
use more interesting worldplay and language unfortunately I can't show it to you because it's almost impossible to translate them the second reason is that the voice actors in the Russian adaptation of Madagascar are more expressive than in the English one especially in terms of Alex at least that's what people think Alex Russian voice seems more suitable for this character but maybe you'll think differently after seing the comparison [Music] my 10 years old huh a decade double digits the big one I feel like a mile high for STR on r on the fly from the deli
in the sky there were many other differences in international versions of Madagascar but I highlighted the most interesting ones that could be translated into English without losing their meaning if you enjoyed this video please hit the like button and write your comments I worked really hard on this one see [Music] you
